Sowore has not held an elective position before so it will not be wise to start with president! There's no precedence to judge him with

What precedent does the President of Senegal have. Or even our Yakubu Gowon in 1967.

Have you asked yourself why the political elites are unanimous in their attack against Obi?

They know whats coming!

If you are looking for a saint then look towards Sowere. Not tainted Obi. At least Sowere has never held any position and we cannot judge him.

Why do you think the generality of the elite class ganged up against Obi?

They know whats coming when he succeeds

Stop making Obi look like a messiah, a man that could not carry out a simple task as conducting a LG elections. Not to talk of his aides caught with 250 million in Lagos on their way to some beaureu de change.

Another thread to blame the 1 year of zero achievement by Tinubu on others ..Face it Tinubu has spent 365 days and has not improved a single point of Nigerian lives but rather has worsened it by 400 percent

Face it your Governor has spent one year in office. How many industrial farm settlements has he opened. At least we see the things Tinubu is doing.

Won't they seek reelection? If the process of electing these governor is credibke, they can easily be fired by the people.

They're looting because they know that they can easily rig the elections

They normally conduct their ingenious schemes in their second term. If you see the flyovers and under pass built by Fintiri in his first term you will say oh boy this is the best thing since slice bread.

Your intention for this thread is not noble!

Who does the anticorruption agencies ultimately reports to?

Governors have immunity until the Governor is out of office. So at d moment your so called anti corruption agencies can only hold fire until such a time it is possible to apprehend.

A president can stop corruption governors from emerging by conducting free, fair and credible elections.

The system will not allow criminals to be governors if it is credible and transparent because the people know the criminal aspirants

Is a President a soothsayer to know a would be Governor would be a looter. For example Osun State Adeleke won fair and square but if it happens he starts looting through frivolous schemes like appointing 10000 SA no president can stop that.

List the top 5 troubles facing nigeria now let's see how many is under the jurisdiction of the governor

Is Insecurity governors work?
How about inflation?
How about unstable exchange rate
Bad monetary policies?
Oh general lack of production

No body is complaining of roads, schools, hospitals right now those are the jobs of the governor

Only insecurity is the one that is not under a Governor purview. The rest is actually under d Governor’s purview since the states are the ones with the land. A serious Govenor should have hectares of farmlands criss crossing their states hence there would be plenty of food pushing down inflation.

Once there is too much there would be enough to export thereby strengthen the Naira. Exchange wahala sorted.

Production is down to state governments to provide enabling environment where private people can set shops and companies engaging in meaningful production. Production sorted, chikena!!!

Decentralize power/responsibilities. Let the local govt be in charge of collecting taxes. The fg/sg should hands off running schools/universities, hospitals, maintaining roads, security as much as possible. Anyone who is not okay with services can easily go to the local govt office to face the local govt chair instead of shouting tinubu from ariaria or idumota market.

I agree with you. FG should hands off FG Unity Schools, FG University all these should be under LG control.

Why not first discuss how Tinubu can solve the problem as a sitting President? Why is Obi the main character in every national discuss of late. Any President that knows his onions can drastically reduced corruption at the State levels but he that goes to equity MUST do so with clean hands.

State Governors are independently elected. There is no instrument for a sitting president to control the Governor. The problem with people like you is your obsession with the centre while closing your eyes to what your Governor does with his funds.

At least OBJ during his time would bribe d state legislators to impeach the Governor. That was how Fayose was impeached.

What can a President do if the state Governors has sworn to the devil that they would loot both the State and Local Government funds at their disposal.

Can Obi stop it. Just thinking aloud because I remember he Obi during his 8 years of Governor did not conduct a LG election.

How does a president stop a Governor from appointing 1000 special assistants.

In Yoruba language there is a saying “ apa kin se ole” which literally means a big spender is not a theif. Instead of buying a $10.00 shoe you choose to buy a $1000.00 shoe with state funds. Is that theft?

Let us discuss

Welcome to a Nigerian Governor’s second term. I remember Wike employing 500 special assistants a few months to the end of his tenure.

Nigerian Governors are very ingenious in the act of looting how I wish such dexterity would be deployed into development.

Too many Nigerian military personnel are just wack and corrupt.........If Tinubu is serious let him bring in mercenaries before these Fulani demons over run his government!

We can’t continue doing the same thing and get the same horrible results. The current template has been used for 8 years of Buhari regime with abysmal failure. The current regime is continuing in the same failed trajectory obviously without being a soothsayer the results are already speaking for itself.

We should start thinking outside the box with every option open for discuss and implementation.

Looks like our military are compromised as they seem to be struggling to get rid of this rag tag insurgent.

Chibuike...

Chibuike was my friend. He was still in school while I was done with my nysc.

He was a final year medical student... A very brilliant guy with first class potential.

Now this Chibuike used to confide in me a lot... He confided in me how he struggled through school with finance etc. Even though his dad was wealthy could afford to pay for it but abandoned him and his mom in terms of taking care of their responsibilities.

He struggled to complete his academics and used to tell me about his dreams of finally becoming a medical doctor very soon... How he couldn't wait to take care of his mom... Who always struggled to support him when he was in need etc... He was so very close to achieving his dreams.

And then one holiday period he traveled to his village and never came back... He had a fatal accident and lost his life on his way back to Jos. It was so sudden... I never believed his death till I saw the burial poster.

His death was so painful to me... This was a young guy with lots of potential. About to get the reward of all he worked so hard for with all his heart. Even when I lost my dad I doubt it affected me the way his death did.

I hate it when young people die.

Sometimes now I wonder where all his dreams went... Life na vanity. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't chase our dreams. Because it's what gives us purpose in life.

Continue to rest Chibuike my friend... I can never forget your smile!

Sorry for lost. The mother would have been devastated.

A descendant of formerly enslaved returnee Yorubas from Cuba and Brazil is the way I like to put it. Antonio Oladeinde Fernandez was popular in Cuba and well known to Fidel Castro. I read a publication back in the early 1990s indicating that his forebears came back from Cuba. Of course the wealthy and influential Yoruba returnee families from Cuba and the Yoruba returnee families from Brazil also intermarried hence Antonio Oladeinde Fernandez would have Yoruba-Brazilian returnee ancestry as well.
These Yoruba-Brazilian and Yoruba-Cuban folks otherwise called African merchant princes were quite wealthy and they ran thriving International businessese shipping food commodities and other items from Lagos Island to Bahia and vice versa before 1900 because some Yoruba families and other Africans continued to live in Bahia, Brazil even after the abolition of plantation slavery. Some like the Ijesa-born Candido DaRocha family maintained two families on both sides of the Atlantic in Lagos Island, Nigeria and Bahia, Brazil. The wealthy Alakija patriarch who was the first Nigerian Queen's Counsel (QC) and founder of Daily Times newspaper was a returnee with his Egba family from Bahia, Brazil and was formerly known as Placido Assumpcao before he dropped his Brazilian name (after returning to Nigeria from his law studies in England in the 1910s), and adopted his full Yoruba name, Sir Adeyemo Alakija.

Just to add, the Yoruba-Cuban returnees (from Havana and Matanzas) in the late 1800s and part of the early 1900s settled around the Campos Square area of Lagos Island, while those from Brazil settled in the Brazilian quarters. Slave ship records show that about 250,000 folks of various Yoruba subgroups were brought to Cuba in the 1800s. About the same number of 250,000 were also taken to Brazil.

The Oyos were the largest of them all and they were known to lead several revolts against injustice by the White Spanish in Cuba because of the warrior backgrounds of many Oyos brought as prisoners of war to Cuba. The Ijesas from today's Osun State, and the Egbas originally from Ibadan and later Abeokuta also had significant populations among the Yoruba folks who were deported on slave schooners from majorly Nigeria and Benin Republic slave port areas (of Lagos Island, Badagry, Whydah) to Brazil, Cuba, Guyana, Trinidad, the United States, etc.

I don’t think moneys made in late 1800’s is what made Fernandez make his way in life, he probably held on to both the Portuguese & Spanish language and with his Portuguese sounding name managed to allign himself with an Angola coming out of war, using his Street smart Nigerian sense got involved in building the institutions in this new oil heaven. His antecedents in Angola make him able to work his way into Mozambique. Hence why he came out with that his famous saying of “ 2 rams cannot drink from the same bucket” Nigeria been a basket case where millions where grappling with crumbs falling off the table of the then military hegemony .

Nigerian is the only country where Agricultural supply is not Oligarchyly controlled. Even the west that espoused capitalism, the supply chains are carefully controlled making price differentials in major super markets little or no difference.

I have seen the same oligarchycal manifestation in Southern Africa too.

We need to grasp and hold Agricultural supply chains with some efficiency that has not be envisioned.

Both Onitsha and Asaba should have a boardwalk by the side of river. If you see the beautiful walk built in Durban over looking the sea using an African country as example. Even Lagos should have such too.

Our leaders should think out of the box.
