Politics / Re: Throw Back Of Switchboard Engineers At Ibadan Authority Power Station In The 50s by MasterChen: 6:20am On Dec 03, 2017
Ibadan been make sense that year

This city had everything going for it in the 50s, 60s and even early 70s . Ibadan was literally the capital of Nigeria's entertainment industry cos all the creatives congregated at UI. From Nwapa to Soyinka, Achebe, Mabel Segun, Twin Seven Seven, Nwoko, Ladipo, Ogunde. Name them

All the research centres were sited there. The best institutions were in Ibadan. I read somewhere that foreigners used to come to UCH for treatment

This is a city that had malls and cinemas before they became cool. Ibadan had Queens cinema, KS Cinema, Odeon, Scala, Rex

Had shopping centres and mini-malls like Kingsway stores, Leventis, and UTC. Ibadan gave Lagos a run for it's money

I won't even talk about all the things Awolowo put on ground. That one would require me creating a new thread lol

Military rule came...Jemibewon and Tarfa. Things started to deteriorate till Bola Ige came in. He did a lot of good things, but the guy who came after him didn't sustain it. After that, years of military rule was enough for the city to fall like a pack of cards

Fast forward to Adelabu's era of Amala politics, Ibadan became the national capital of thuggery. Poverty was the order of the day.

Till Ajimobi came and restored sanity. The city is gradually getting it right again. The oldies are returning home

Today, Ibadan has 5 malls - Heritage, Ventura, Jericho, Cocoa, and The Palms. A big ass garden at Agodi. The tech scene is slowly buzzing. Lots of new GRAs, hotels, night clubs, over 22 radio stations! Food is cheap, transportation is cheap. Awesome place to enjoy life basically minus the typical Naija experience

It's just a matter of time before Ibadan regain it's glory . But a lot of work still has to be done.

Politics / Re: 75 Manufacturing Firms Close Down In South-east Over Bad Roads, Infrastructures by MasterChen: 10:23pm On Dec 01, 2017
Another problem is that they can't think beyond the market. They have a mono economy, hence the obsession with markets. Market market market. Onitsha apparently has some of the biggest markets in Africa, same with Aba. Yet shame no gree let O'bingo release IGR figures. Aba is in shambles. I saw O'bingo's 166 billion budget yesterday and I was just laughing

That market mentality is where the Lagos delusion comes from

When will these clowns realize you can't develop an economy by just internal commerce alone. It's 2017 not 1965. Yeah people go make small bar individually, but things no go work collectively.. Which developed country today has its economy centered around buying and selling. It's not like you even produce your own sh+it and export. You import almost everything and then sell to a large population. That's one of the reasons why a huge chunk of the population are leaving the region, because there aren't enough people to sell to since everyone is doing the same thing.

I think something must be wrong somewhere. According to that news report, half of the industries in the region have already closed shop in the last 5-years. That is an awful statistic to say the least. At the current rate the entire industrial base may be wiped out within another decade. I don't want to believe that infrastructure is the major cause.

But in any case, this is a big indictment against the government and citizens of the region who apparently can't get their acts together to build a viable industrial economy. I mean, on the surface they supposedly have a lot going for them in the human resources department, they also have a chunk of wealthy folks, not to mention that this region is the smallest in the country. So in my opinion they have no excuse for being in this position, unless we wanna blame it all on incompetence on the the part of their administrators.

Breh, I don't think the problem is infrastructure. It's deeper than that. Unless we want to say states like Niger and Kebbi have better infrastructure and enabling environment for businesses to thrive than the SE.

It's really not surprising. Even states like Kaduna, Edo, Kebbi and Akwa Ibom are getting more local and foreign investments than potor states

Between August and November

-BUA commissioned a big ass cement plant in Edo state
-Osinbajo commissioned a fertilizer factory in Edo state on the same day
-A multi-billion Naira Wacot Rice Mill was commissioned in Argungu, Kebbi State
-OLAM $150 million integrated feed mill, breeding farm, and hatchery was commissioned in Kaduna,
-A N500m food processing factory was commissioned in Jigawa

Dangote is already planning to build a ($450m) sugar factory in Niger state

Mind you, these are all landlocked states that don't even have as much human resources as SE states

They're waiting for FG to build seaport in landlocked Onitsha. Lying that ports in nearby SS aren't working even though evidence points to the contrary

That's what you get for being senseless

So the new one I've been seeing in recent times is that Niger state is bigger than the SW. I just want to refute that nonsense before it becomes a trend. Niger state is 76,363 square km, the SW is 79, 665 square km. The gap is about the size of Lagos State. So how is Niger state bigger than the SW talkless of Yorubaland? Add that to the fact that Niger state is a desert for the most part. The sad thing is how these dummies brand their illiteracy as "FACT".

Even if you want to get back at SWesterners for saying your potor sh+it+hole is just slightly bigger than Oyo state, you do it with proof. Erosion don almost chow the little land wey una get sef. Besides, Niger state isn't even your land. Abi Abiama development project don reach that side? grin

I want y'all potor yammerheads to do me a favor by replying me with the names of the schools you attended. We'll flog the hell out of your useless maths teachers. If you attended Epon-Ojuku grammar school, don't even bother replying.

Lastly, if I see any of you illiterates spewing that Niger state nonsense, na pankere get all of una

Politics / Re: Lagos’ll Soon Be Third Largest Africa’s Economy by MasterChen: 7:16am On Dec 01, 2017
It goes beyond just having the tag of "largest economy". It needs to reflect on the lives of the citizens. Good roads, 24-7 electricity, jobs, security. Lagos doesn't tick all these boxes yet, but the potentials are there

If you consider the huge ongoing projects especially Eko Atlantic, the rail project and Dangote refinery.

Another major problem is population and the state seem clueless on how to solve that problem. It's pointless putting down infrastructure that would get weakened within a short period of time due to pressure. The same yammerheads who won't stay in their potopoto were the ones who kicked against Lagos special status bill

Anyway, Eko Onibaje

Niger State is bigger than the entire Yorubaland! -FACT

Yet, you never hear Niger or Sokoto brag about how much land they have.

In any case, oya use your land for something productive to reduce the massive poverty in your place, but you are too lazy to farm the land. It's only used as forest to decapitate people for rituals and bury them in the forest.

It is always afonja with none of their states even in the top 10 that will be making noise. Afonja is truly a disease.

How you take pass WAEC.

Niger state is 76,363 square km, SW is 79, 665 square km. So how is Niger state bigger than the SW talkless of Yorubaland? The gap is about the size of Lagos. Add that to the fact that Niger state is a desert for the most part. And your dumbass is even adding "FACT". How can one be this confidently dumb. grin

Speaking of productivity, is there anywhere as productive in the whole of Nigeria as the SW.? Are your states performing better in Agric than SW states? Are you churning out any products used all over the country? Does the SW rely on anything from your region?

Lagos and Ogun are the only thriving industrial clusters in the whole country. Your mammy's pampers comes from Ogun state. Ogun IGR is higher than the IGR in your whole potor sh+it+hole.. So what's productive about your sh+it+hole? Ehn

Y'all can't even make it in life until you come sell Gala in the SW.

And I'm not even talking about Lagos, I'm talking about the dustiest parts of Ekiti. And you want to talk about productivity?

Ondo is still the highest producer of the cash crop, but unfortunately the state isn't thinking of adding value to the crop before exporting it the way Osun is currently doing. Value addition increases the price of the chocolate byproduct and even earns more fx than the raw in processed Cocoa that is currently exported.

Even if Nigerians aren't big consumers of chocolate (though local demand is increasing), the Europeans, Americans and Asians (especially the Chinese) are, and are willing to pay far more for the processed Cocoa than the raw ones.

I feel like Osun is even making more effort in the production part sef than Ondo. Eerm...Are there any chocolate companies in Osun?

I heard there is one in Ondo state called SpagnVola. I haven't seen pictures of their factory online tho. You sabi am?

Anyway, good to see Osun State making moves. And like RockHard mentioned, this is basically an extension of an already established relationship. I can't wait to see this come to fruition.

I noticed the company is a cocoa company.

Osun seems to be SW state that's most serious about cocoa. I guess there is a comparative advantage. And with the way things are going, the state might even dethrone Ondo as the top cocoa producing state
