Hey guys why cant we just emulate the enugu thread ppl and just ignore all thread derailers, I mean we could have arguements and disagree peacefully but once a trouble maker is spotted, he should be ignored.

Also something tells me that these ofe mmanu peeps open multiple accounts and then argue with themelves just to create commotion, and dey mostly do that with chino accounts because they knw chino is a trouble komoko, and we igbos fall prey to these pranks because we are not really united and so we flare up at any little insult or disagreement.
Pls dont let urself be used as a tool by these ofe ppl. Thank you. I really like this thread and hope it will last

Nice one. They are really trying in that upper iweka.
That's the only place that some travellers used to judge how dirty they think our Anambra was.

^^^My annoyance is that it's taking a fuc/king long time to sanitize that Upper Iweka/Bridge-Head area and finish works! I think we started hearing talks of the place being given a make-over since around 2012 when Peter Obi was still the Governor, and we're still waiting to see comprehensive pics of the finished article! Why does it take more than two years just to clear a small area of rubbish, clutter and touts, and then plant trees, flowers, shrubs and lawns, as well as sweep the newly constructed roads, mark them appropriately, and install road signages!?......All this shouldn't take more than 4 months for crying out loud!

Sometimes i think i'm the only one in a hurry to see our cities develop and become world-class! sad

Bros, I'm with you.

It takes us ridiculously long time for the slightest positive change and such astonishingly short time to destroy our cities and environment with slums, illegal markets and shanties.

I think upper iweka has taken so long to beautify because even the government does not know how they want to beautify the place. So it is one year one grass and one rail fence. Our people are very visual to be able to understand what the plan is.They need to be presented a physical plan to copy and they will do it well. Therefore, the government should adopt a city in Nigeria, perhaps-Abuja; as a visual standard of how they want to upgrade Onitsha.

Lets hope they beautify Zik roundabouts on the expressroad and Oguta road the same way.

Is there a reason why Park road was dualized without installing street lights??

Is that the Anambra standard ?

One hopes that they take landscaping around all the projects very seriously to bring them to world class level.

Proper Finishing of projects is always our single biggest problem. Just as the Park road was beautifully dualized and they still failed to install street lights nor mark the road.

That is the basic difference that makes Akpabio's projects stand out. He doesn't play with the final perfect finishing and landscaping of all his projects to a world class level. His roads are always marked with street light and his hotels have excess flowers &trees, if you can ever call aesthetics and landscaping that.
For example, Uyo Meridian hotel is ugly structurally, but made beautiful by good landscaping.

It was actually 1 kilometer long and cost a whopping N300 million naira!
Anambra standard or Abuja standard notwithstanding, the lack of street lights and road marking on that Park road is highly unacceptable.

I hope the construction firm have not declared the road completed and disappeared.

But airports would have added to the tourism part of awka . Anyway, what are the tourist sites in awka now? it's being long I went there

I had always thought Anambra did not need an airport, but i will retire my skepticism for now.

Below were agreed priorities between the UNHABITAT masterplan and Anambra state government in order to begin the upgrade of Onitsha.

THE 10 AGREED PRIORITIES

1. Rebuild the present central market outside of the
city

2. Relocate some of the other markets (e.g. the
building materials market) to areas outside the
city

3. Purchase of environmental equipment
measurement equipment.

4. Create an international market along Nsugbe
Road outside the city

5. Create a mega-parking area for regional trucks,
with affiliated services and facilities

6. Simplify access to credit and loans to generate
new jobs

7. Establish new businesses and light industries that
depend on a large number of labourers

8. Complete the export free zone

9. Create an independent power supply

10. Establish an airport (for cargo)

It is great to dream about replicating Dubai at home. But without our government committing to a step by step plan to achieving that will make such dreams remain a mirage.

The following constraints were also identified as impediments to economic growth in Anambra state.

CONSTRAINTS TO LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

1. There is no facility for any form of tourism.

2. There are few good quality hotels that can attract tourists.

3. The insecure environment does not encourage tourism for now.

4. The lack of a nearby airport is hampering business transactions.

5. Erratic electricity supply has hampered industrial development.

6. The non-utilization of the river port is not encouraging the growth of commerce in Onitsha.

7. The absence of a railway linkage limits transportation choices.

Overall development in Anambra has been unprecedented.

There are tourist attractions at Ogbunike Cave which the government is presently developing. There is also waterfall at Nkwerre Ezukalla. Both UNESCO heritage.

There are two 5 star hotels and 3 malls going on right now in Anambra to boast hospitality and tourism, this is very ambitious. Airport is already on the table as site the has been secured and preliminary work taken off. Already the state has some of the best road network traversing all corners of the state.

Electricity situation in Anambra is fair compare to some other states. Onitsha Port take off is being delayed by FG's concession project. The only thing Anambra lacks now is rail-line which is more or less a federal government project. Aside that every other thing is either in place or already being put in place.
