OP, Racism is a serious issue but what i dont get is a black man hating a black man over tribe. You shouldn't even feel bad cos that happened in a white man's country. Come to 9ja and c how much tribes hating, running down other tribes.

Me i dont care ur skin color, ur language . Not even where u from . As long as you good to me. #ihaveadream in martinLuther's voice

Amefrica:
Hi guys, due to what's going on in our world at the moment, I think it's hightime we started loving each other. I had an encounter with racist people some weeks ago..

My flatmate (a Nigerian) and I went to the mall about some weeks ago to get our winter clothings and all, after we got all paid, we went to the bus-stand to wait for the bus - we got to the stand and met a Canadian man probably in his mid to late forties waiting for the bus too, I said "Hello, how you doing today? Nice weather, isn't it?" The man just bone face, he didn't even answer, my flatmate looked at me and we just acted like it didn't happen.

What he did next was something that irritated me. Immediately he packed his bags and went to the stand opposite us to meet a Canadian woman sitting down too, we didn't give 2 hoots until they started saying some things we couldn't hear, laughing uncontrollably and pointing fingers right at us. My mate got infuriated and wanted to confront them I calmed him down, that they were just ignorant. Few minutes later, the bus came they got on the bus, me and my mate intentionally sat next to them, lo and behold they stood up and went way back to the end of the bus. I was just shaking my head!

For real, racism has got to stop. You have different wardrobes of many colours, can't God have humans with different colours too?

Tho, I've met so many respectful, kind, nice people here. When I told my female bestfriend who is a Canadian too, she asked me to describe them, that she wants to kick their a'ss, I just told her not to worry. I really wish racism could end for good. We have to learn to live and tolerate each other, irrespective of race, religion etc..
Now based on your misinterpreted experience to which I see no racism exhibited from those Canadian folks. Supposing, what if those white folks behaved exactly the same way as you've described to two other foreigners like you and your friend but only that they are whites like them, should that be called racism? Speaking of racism itself, I have often told friends in abroad that it is the sort of mentality some Nigerians carry on with them to foreign lands that when expressed unknowingly tend to always give rise to attitudes from those whites that can be deemed racist. It is induced from other.

Instead of the mods to place thoroguhly enlightening and thought provoking topics like THIS on front page, there are inserting topics that appeals to them on front page. If you want to read about racism that still occurs to us African blacks today, then go read Arab Slavery of Black Africans

The blood is all red inside no matter the color of skins!

Racist are everywhere. same with tribalist. Even in UK, i know some English guys that hate the Scottish. You just need to know the type of people around you before communicating with them.

Wait until you come Malaysia then you will know racism, you can sit in a bus on a sit for two and nobody will take the sit near you. In fact most will prefer to stand. Some even close their nose once a darky is sitting nearby.

Next time, mind your business so you don't give people room to display racist behaviour towards you.

Most of those people are not happy you're in their country, Black people are very much a minority in Canada, some of them are genuinely scared of black people.

Assume everyone to be racist until proven otherwise, & you should be fine. Stay away from white Canadian chics as well if possible, till you've properly acclimatised to your environment.

If only Africans can prove they are God made by loving one another (genuine love I mean), may be we can convince them that there are no Superior being except God Almighty
Well your god said you were cursed. He said you'll be 'drawers of water & hewers of wood'. He also said you will be slaves and should serve your masters. Be they cruel or be they reasonable. So what gives....

@OP: You belittle the concept of racism by referring to what you experienced as racist.

You meet a stranger on the street, you greet him/her and he/she doesn't respond and chooses to stay away from you. How is that racist?! There are a lot of deductions we could adduce the attitude of the man to; could it be you have a bad body odour, or you dressed up like a gangstar, or you presented with a bad attitude e.t.c.

The man is not racist for choosing to stay away from you, he made a choice. We need to get over this defeatist attitude of looking for racism everywhere.

So op, is it by force to say hello?

You just travelled abroad and feel you have an obligation to say hi or sit next to every white person you see?

Next time just mind your own business and worry only about how the weather is affecting you.

I don't say Hi to any white folk any how unless they greet or talk to me first.

Apart from a drunk guy I met in a club that called me a negro, I haven't had any racist comment at me before

They really don't. If you start talking to a stranger, the assumption is that you want to ask for money, you're distracting them so you can rob them, you want to ask for their number, or you're crazy. No matter your race, it makes people very uncomfortable. When I first came to Nigeria, I was really taken by surprise by strangers on the street greeting me.

Of course, I'm not excusing the man's behavior. He seems like a díck though. Canadians are stereotypically over-friendly.
