I am telling you what I saw. You should have taken pictures to prove me wrong than just making a comment.

Ask anybody that visited the place recently--he will tell you that Agulu Resort is over 95% completed With the landscaping ongoing right now.

I am very sure it will be commissioned latest by August.

Zonacom:

95%? are you sure? I passed by that area on Tuesday and I think what I saw is far from finished.

Chief Willie Obiano congratulates three newly ordained Bishops

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano congratulates the three newly ordained Bishops; Bishop of Ijesha North, Venerable Dr. Isaac Iwabi Oluyamo and Bishop of Niger West, Venerable Captain Johnson Nwaohalama Ekwe, Bishop of Gwagwalada, Venerable Moses Bukpe-Tabwaye after their Consecration at All Saints Cathedral Onitsha on Sunday…

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has urged the three newly ordained Bishop of Church‎of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) to be shepherd of all Christians and not just those of the Anglican faithful in order to ensure salvation for all. The governor made the call while reiterating the prayers of Anointing by the Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, The Most Rev Nicholas Okoh when he handed over Pastoral Staff to the new Bishops. The Consecration of the Bishops was held Sunday at the All Saints Cathedral Onitsha.

Governor Obiano emphasized that the church is in need of devoted leaders who are conscious of the divine mandate given them by God to be shepherd of the flock of Christ under their care. He advised that the import of the prayers of the Archbishop and the responsibility it confers should not be lost on the new Bishops and all Christians, stressing that the admonition “Be a shepherd and not a wolf to the flock.” “extends to all segments of the body of Christ including Nights of the Church, Laity, Choir, and even himself as governor and other leaders who must set good example in leadership.”

The Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican communion Archbishop Okoh‎, praying for Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano and wife Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obioano after the Consecration of three Bishops of the Anglican Communion at All Saints Cathedral Onitsha on Sunday…
He thanked the Primate for the honour of attracting the ‘epoch making consecration ceremony to Onitsha and Anambra, and congratulated the new Bishops whose Consecration he noted was the first ordination of three Bishops he had ever witnessed‎.

The Consecrated Bishops include; Bishop of Gwagwalada, Venerable Moses Bukpe-Tabwaye, Bishop of Niger West, Venerable Captain Johnson Nwaohalama Ekwe, and Bishop of Ijesha North, Venerable Dr. Isaac Iwabi Oluyamo. Their consecration was performed by the Primate and other Anglican Bishops in solemn sentences blended with melodic musical renditions by the Cathedral choir. The new bishops were administered with Oats of consecration, of allegiance to God and canonical obedience to the Primate, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion.

In his Gospel Preaching, Bishop of Akoko, ‎The Rt. Rev. Gabriel Akinbiyi, called on all Christians to live up to their calling by living according the dictates of Christ. Bishop Akinbiyi noted the erosion of moral values in the world especially among Christians. To buttress his observation, the Bishop asked: “When you look into the world what do you see. Today there seems to be no difference between the church and the world even though the Bible said that we are in the world but are not of the world. There seems to be no difference in the actions of the church and the world with acts of dishonesty, fornication prevalent among other vices .

The Preacher said that the new Bishops were adequately prepared following a one week Retreat in Onitsha where they were camped. He however warned them that the preparation is not enough to shield them from the reality of the challenges of managing the flock of Christ. “You are challenged to live in such a way that will not bring any disrepute to the Episcopacy.” The preacher stated.

Bishop Akinbiyi told the congregation that Theology without practice is useless‎. He quoted the letter of St Paul in Ephesians Chapter 4 Verses 1-16 to buttress ‎his call for unity among the faithful.” As a prisoner for the Lord I urge you to lead a life worthy of your calling;‎ One people, one church…” He also condemned lack of unity within the church stressing that unity and purity are two foundations which must go together.

Earlier, the Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican communion Archbishop Okoh‎, who noted that the church has one foundation in Christ, commended Governor Obiano for his efforts in uniting the church of Christ which he noted is already yielding results. He thanked governor Obiano for hosting the Bishops to a dinner at the Governor’s Lodge and praised his commitment and dedication to the course of ecumenism.

The Eucharistic Consecration Service which was well-attended by all the Anglican Archbishops and Bishops in the Country, was also graced by a former Governor of the state, Dame Virgy Etiaba, top state Government functionaries as well as knights, Ladies and Dames of the Church.

Rotary Club donates ultra-modern toilet to primary school in Onitsha.

They pray daily to God to inspire them as Rotarians to live as they profess: to dignify their daily task and serve in selflessness.

And for the members of Rotary Club of Onitsha metropolis, the prayer has been accomplished since they live in the true meaning of that creed from their numerous works of charity.

Recently, it was the turn of the staff and pupils of Sancta Maria Primary School, Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha to get a feel of their milk of kindness.

The school got a donation of a six-room ultra modern toilet from the club.

For the school community, it was a gift that touched them in their innermost heart because the only existing toilet facility in the premises has been stretched beyond its limit in catering for the teeming population of staff and pupils.

The club in carrying out the project spared nothing in making it to look ultra-modern.

The structure was built with solid materials, all interior marbled with non-stop water flow with reservoir added with fresheners and detergents to make it ever hygienic.

Not only that, they employed a toilet attendant whose duty is to ensure an all-round the clock service.

Impressed by the service, the Chancellor, Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha, Rev. Fr. Anthony Asoanya, while invoking God’s grace on the facility declared that anyone who visited the toilet would go home blessed.

The Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke was represented by Monsignor Nathaniel Obiagba who incidentally cut the tape to commission the project.

Speaking to Oriental News, the President, Rotary Club of Onitsha Metropolis, District 9140, Mrs. Margaret Oputa, a lawyer, said the project was heartwarming because it was basically designed for little kids.

She said by the gesture, Rotary is teaching the kids how to maintain hygiene and the importance of giving back to the society without expecting anything in return.

“The school pupils don’t know us and we came, brought our money, time and resources to do this for them. We want them when they grow up tomorrow to ask what they can do for the society and no longer what they expect government to do for them and I think that’s the only way we can develop this country,” she said.

The President explained that Rotarians are people who believe in the ideals of service and rendering back to the society.

She clarified that Rotary is a non-political, non-religious and not a philanthropic organization as some may think, saying that it is an all service oriented organisation that helps others that have the means to actualize their dreams.

She disclosed that they would embark on literacy quiz competition next month for secondary schools and give scholarships at the end of the programme as part of its continued efforts to render services to humanity.

The past president and the current chairman of the Service Project, Rotarian Afam Obi in a remark noted that the project was conceived because of the need to upgrade the living standards of the pupils in the 21st Century.

He likened the provision of modern toilet facility to being information technology compliant unlike when people relied on going to the bush to defecate or researching with analogue method.

He said their service comes in different directions, saying that they went the extra mile in doing the project so as to stand the test of time, disclosing that the project is in line with the rural water and sanitation project of the Rotary.

Another founding member and past president, Dr Emma Udeakpeh also said that the project was the outcome of the interface the club had with the school which led to the discovery that they needed a toilet facility.

He said that Rotary does not hesitate whenever it sees a need to fulfill.

The school headmistress, Lady Monica Ozojie, who could not hide her joy, described the day as wonderful and a dream come true.

She disclosed that toilet facility has been an issue since she was posted to the school and revealed that it was the Rotary that approached the school management early this year and asked them to make a request on what they needed.

She said that the project was completed within one month to the surprise of all in the school and said the greatest lesson for the kids in the school is for them to realize that one does not care only for one’s family members and friends.

The Chairman, Parents Teachers Dialogue of the school, Hon. Basil Onubeze thanked the Rotary family for the kind gesture.

He lauded the timely and professional touch given to the project and called on other well-meaning associations to toe the same path exemplified by the Rotary Club.

Another past president of the club, Dr. Abba. A. Abba described the project as a laudable initiative which they have achieved for the year 2015 and expressed hope that more would be accomplished.

In a vote of thanks, the incoming president of the club, Ada Slim Ilechukwu thanked all who contributed in any way towards making the project successful.

She said that the Rotary District 9140 would remain a pace-setter as she called for the support of all members and friends in the club.

As officials of the bank stated, all the 36 branches of Skye Bank in the South East would be actively involved in the disbursement of the loans, in addition to giving them expert advice on investment and repayment modalities. The South East 1 regional director of Skye Bank, Dr. Charles Udogu said the idea of the Onitsha seminar was to create awareness among businessmen in the zone, who operate small and medium enterprises.

We created this forum to enable our bank and its customers rub minds and evolve ways of forming networks that will be of great benefit to those concerned and the Nigerian economy.

"With the N220 billion set aside by the Federal Government for SMEs, with low interest rate of nine per cent, we believe that the ability of the operators in this sector to access the fund would help to ignite industrialisation."

Also speaking, the head of small business group of the bank, Mrs. Ayo Oloyode, observed that in most cases, obtaining loans may but be the problem, but knowing what to do with the money, adding that Skye Bank would help this group of businessmen articulate their programmes and proposals to enable them achieve their objectives.

President of South East branch of Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, NASME, Mr. Chinedu Anyaso said there is need for people to belong to organisations that could enhance their businesses because it is always difficult to fund their business ventures without external assistance.

Anyaso advised businessmen to investigate properly before taking any loan in order not to regret in the long run. Lead speaker at the seminar, Mr. George Umobi, who is the managing director of Dilimson Holdings Limited, warned that one the greatest impediments to business growth and development in Nigeria is insincerity, noting that "once the banks and those you are dealing with observe some kind of dubious actions.

As part of efforts to revamp the 11 vocational and technical colleges in Anambra State, the state government, has sponsored 23 teachers, including principals, and administrators from the Ministry of Education, MoE, on a study-trip to Singapore.

South East Voice gathered that the training became necessary in a bid to enhance the four pillars of the administration of Governor Willie Obiano, through technical and vocational education.

Speaking, some of the teachers and principals selected from the 11 colleges, expressed optimism that the visit would go a long way in bringing about massive development in the state, especially in the area of producing the needed and qualified manpower among the students, after the courses.

The Vice Principal (Administration), Nigerian Science and Technical College, Nnewi, Mrs. Uzoma Okeke said:

"When I get to Singapore, I expect to see how technical and vocational trainings are run according to best global practices. I hope to bring back the knowledge to improve our school system.

'"Most importantly, I want to see how the institutions we are visiting run the theoretical and practical aspects of their curriculum, so that when we come back, we can introduce same in our schools." Also, the Head, Department of Technical College, Umunze, Simon Nwafor, said: "My expectation is for us to see and learn what we need to improve the technical and vocational educational system.

"We have had remarkable improvements since the present administration came in, especially in terms of human capacity building, staff welfare, provision of equipment needed to enhance teaching and learning in our colleges. So, with this study-trip, I feel it is another step ahead for better things to come."

Also, in the team are the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oby Okeke; Commissioner for Education, Professor Kate Omenugha; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Beatrice Okonkwo; Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Nzeemeaka Olisa;

Chairman, Anambra State Post-Primary School Services Commission, ASPPSSC, Lady Joy Ulasi; Coordinator, Anambra State Economic Think-Tank, ANET, Mac Attasie; the Project Coordinator, Anambra State Education Programme Investment Project, ASEPIP, Charly Okeke as well as the Director, Higher Technical/Vocational Department, Dr. Laz Okafor, among others.

Speaking to South East Voice, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Omenugha, said that the visit was necessary to give the technical and vocational educational system a facelift.

"We are taking teachers of the Anambra State Technical College on a study-visit to Singapore. When Governor Obiano assumed office, we noticed that technical and vocational education were at the lowest ebb in the state. Among the 11 technical colleges, not even one had accreditation with the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.

"So, we are now developing the needed human resources through the development of our technical colleges, so that the products of these colleges will be ready-made to take up employments. Again, we noticed that the standard of the students cannot be higher than that of their teachers, so we kicked-off serious human capacity building programmes for the teachers.

"We have done a lot of local trainings for them in the last one year, and now, we are taking them to Singapore to ensure best practices in technical and vocational education. The idea is that when these teachers are exposed to international best practices, they will be able to impact same to the students, thus producing graduates who are employable."

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Kiara College, Endi Ezengwa, whose firm consults on technical and vocational education for the state, said Singapore was chosen for the study-visit "because it is a very good example in the world on Technical and Vocational Education, TVED.

They have working systems that are worth emulating all over the world. When we get to Singapore, we will visit the ITE Educational Services, an institution in-charge of technical and vocational educational services in Singapore."

Onitsha Is Rising!

The just concluded 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference featured more than 100 countries that were retracing the historic path of an event that changed the world.

Today, countries like South Africa, Nigeria and Rwanda lead Africa’s rise in the global economy and international stature.

Africa has all the ingredients to be a dominant economic engine for decades to come, according to demographers, economists and industrial and agricultural experts.

With more than 1.1 billion citizens, Africa has huge potential. About one-third of Africa’s 54 nations have a yearly gain in gross domestic product (GDP) of more than 6 percent, making the continent the second highest in economic growth after Asia, which is growing at 4.7 percent per year.

One main factor is because Africa is at last getting its share of peace and good governance since Benin set the mainland trend in 1991.

Population trends could also be improving these developments. More better-educated young people are entering the job market and birth rates are beginning to decline. As the proportion of working-age people to dependents rises, growth should get a boost.

Asia enjoyed the “demographic dividend”, which began three decades ago and is now tailing off. In Africa it is just starting.

The continent will soon have the planet’s biggest workforce, estimated to reach 163 million in this decade. By the middle of the 21st century, Africa will be home to 25 percent of the world’s productive forces.

Its enthusiasm for technology is also a great factor in boosting its growth. For example, Africa’s mobile industry’s penetration rose from 2 percent in 2000 to 78 percent today and is expected to soar to 84 percent by 2015.

In the health sector, there are obvious improvements. For instance, the continent recorded a gradual decrease of HIV/AIDS. With better health conditions, productivity is growing nearly 3 percent a year.

Among the 54 countries, South Africa is still considered Africa’s first powerhouse. As a gateway to Africa, many other African countries rely on Cape Town’s port to do business with the outside world.

South Africa has a wealth of natural resources including coal, platinum, coal, gold, iron ore, manganese, nickel, uranium and chromium. It successfully developed world-class infrastructure and is rolling out new green technologies and industries, creating new and sustainable jobs.

In northern Africa, the bustling Onitsha market in southern Nigeria sees millions of buyers a week seeking basic needs, computers and construction equipment. It is a hub for traders from the Gulf of Guinea, also home to millions of highly motivated entrepreneurs and increasingly prosperous consumers.

Nigeria is considered Africa’s new powerhouse with its 173.6 million citizens driving its GDP, which reportedly rose by over 200 percent in 10 years. The Economist magazine predicted that seven of the 10 countries with the fastest growing economies will soon come from Africa, including Ethiopia (8.1 percent) and Nigeria (6.8 percent).

Nigeria was able to quickly contain the outbreak of Ebola there and is regarded as having diversified its economy more than other African countries. According to the World Bank, about half of Nigeria’s GDP is driven by the services sector and non-oil industries.

Meanwhile in East Africa, Rwanda, considered another emerging economy, recently commemorated 20 years since the genocide that claimed more than 800,000 lives. Rwanda ranks first among African countries in terms of achieving the Millennium Development Goals, which include poverty assuagement and ensuring all citizens get basic needs such as water, food and health care.

With resources such as tin, tantalum and tungsten, mining contributes to more than 10 percent of Rwanda’s total exports. In the past 10 years, Rwanda has managed to maintain its GDP at 8 percent and is regarded by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund as among the most beneficial investment destinations.

In the rush to be part of Africa’s growth story, we can’t turn a blind eye to the challenges. Rapid economic growth surely brings upcoming challenges concerning electricity, roads, ports, deeper capital markets, better jobs and more credit for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The SMEs are crucial drivers of economic growth in rising countries, yet reports mention a lack of credit as still being a major constraint for these companies.

A series of deadly epidemics have affected the continent, the latest being Ebola. Under the World Bank’s worst-case scenario, the disease could cost the three most highly affected countries — Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone — more than US$800 million over the next few years.

There is still the threat of violence from terrorist groups such as Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab. Piracy and armed robbery have mostly occurred in the Gulf of Guinea where the crimes made up more than a quarter of worldwide reported attacks.

Gradually increasing since 2007, maritime insecurity in this region affects the trade of 455 million people. It affects the shipment of 5 million barrels of oil per day (Africa’s total is 9 million).

Africa takes these challenges seriously through mutual cooperation in technological cooperation and law enforcement and strengthening partnerships with key countries.

African countries adopted one of Asia’s best practices for securing the Strait of Malacca from pirates. The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia will be adopted to secure the Gulf of Guinea and the Gulf of Aden.

In relations with Indonesia, Mozambique and Namibia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indonesia on Preventing and Combating Transnational Crime; there is also an MoU on Cooperation in Combating Illicit Production, Manufacture and Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs with Nigeria.

Amid challenges and a somber time for the world economy, Africa’s progress is a reminder of the transformative promise of growth. Africa’s strong growth and its positive domino effects will raise the world’s powerhouse to the next level.

Britons finished work at the All Saints Catheral-Onitsha. One of the few greatest British architectural masterpiece out of Africa. Finished with bricks and stone cast.

This is also the Headquarters of Anglican Church in the Eastern Nigeria, being the place the missionaries led by Crowther first set their feet through the River Niger.

^^^Any chance of seeing pics of these 'ultra modern toilets'...or am i asking for too much!?

Buddah monk...

Going through your post here it just shows how foolish you can become overnight. How can you be hampering such selfish, rigorous, egocentric hatred on the gov. Of our dear state.
You are like a wood deeply cut at the centre...
I will tell you if you have Anambra state at heart I proudly believe you wont be here to be venting anger on something that don't worth it.
You believe you are monk... I disagree... Reason is that you don't know how to forgive and tolerate people.

You should know that a word against our governor is a word against the people of Anambra state... And we wont forgive you except you accept and correct your mistake...

I advice you to retract your statement and apologize to the people... BC UV really insulted the government and the people of Anambra State...

Remember leaders are the God of the people... When criticizing the leaders come up with a fact and we will deliberately look at it and think of what to do... Than just ranting like a mad man...

We are one big Family...
Abi u be God?? ANSWER ME!!!
