Abagworo:
HIGHEST PAID STATES
1. Akwa Ibom 19,467,767,266.19
2. Delta 14,884,561,011.30
3. Rivers 13,811,059,254.97
4. Bayelsa 10,522,293,702.84
5. Lagos 8,023,794,161.05

When you add IGR Lagos moves to the top and Akwa Ibom drops to 3rd while Rivers moves up to 2nd. It is reflected in terms of the huge infrastructural projects embarked upon by these 3 States. Lagos is highest followed by Rivers and then Akwa Ibom.

The question is should we judge Governors by the amount of huge projects or by their impact on the lives of their subjects? This is because you hear people condemn Orji and praise Akpabio while in actual fact you dont see Abians migrating out to work as househelps or live in makeshift slums even though the Governor was not involved in huge projects as a result of very limited funds. Amaechi and Fashola impacted very possitively on their subjects and even had to accomodate thousands of Akwaibomites in their States.

4. Lagos state's IGR that many of you make ignorance noise about amounts to little in the grand scheme of this.

20 billion/month IGR = 20 x 12 = N240 billion.

FG allocation is N10 billion monthly

N10 billion x 12 = N120

= N240 billion + 120 = N360 billion

So, the IGR you people make so much noise about is nothing when it comes to the actual money Lagos state operates with in for of budget.

N360 billion for 20 million people is chump change and Lagos state still have to borrow money to get up to it's N400+ billion yearly budgets.

Do your research or educate yourself about these states before making ill informed comments.

Akpabio on the other hand with just 5 million people budgets over N500 billion yearly IGR or no IGR.

No, with IGR, Lagos remains behind Akwa Ibom and Akwa Ibom remains at the top.

If with IGR and allocation added together = N360 billion and still have to borrow to formulate N489 billion budget while IGR or no IGR Akwa Ibom still posts larger yearly budgets N500+ billion than any other state including Lagos, then Akwa Ibom remains at the top.

Lagos's IGR + Allocation is only N360 billion.

Even Delta posted N451 Billion 2014 budget while Lagos's IGR + Allocation = N360 billion.

These small states with less than 5 million people are all richer than Lagos state with 20 million people regardless of IGR. Sadly, there's no evidence per what they are doing with all that money while Lagos complete and commissions projects everyday...

The facts we should be looking out for are does these gigantic projects translate to better lives for the residents?

Somebody is even posting a tolled bridge as an achievement!
Anyways, are Lagosians better off with the projects? Or are Akwa ibomites better off?

Many of them are just too ignorant because they dont know how states function. For their to be any project or development, there must be budgets and funds allocation for the projects, their must be contract awards and so on. In Akwa Ibom just like in other states, we know what was awarded and budgeted for so you can not make up projects or lie about what doesnt exist and this is the reason why they can not come up with anything completed by akpabio apart from the few roads and fly over. 1 library and 1football field.

Throwing tantrums instead of posting facts to challenge my assertions means they agree with my assertions.
Go and fine urself something doing jobless man,

I'm just happy in the leadership of Fashola and vision of Tinubu. Tinubu most likely shadow-mentored fashola and prepared him for leadership. I believe both have replicated themselves in people that form part of their team, I mean the General Manager of Lagos State Electricity board is probably in my age range (Under 40), so you can imagine the delight when we have continuity.

I urge well meaning, analytically sound minded and focused folks to continue to develop themselves and prepare for leadership. Kayode Fayemi brought to limelight the brilliant Akin, that made mince meat of the whole PDP youth debate team. That guy will most likely get a place in governance of this country, following him from a distance, I am tempted to believe he either joggles a banking career with a mentee program in leadership, politics and governance and will soon be saddled with one.

Finally, Aresa;
1. You have simply done our world a whole deal of good with this painstaking effort. Unfortunately the narrow minded did not see that you're not just pasting picture, you're connecting the dots on Fashola's delivery and the impact on human well being.
2. You stand tall for me in your capability to competently engage in intellectual arguments. You challenge assumptions, and support your position with veritable facts. You're not afraid to take postulations from opposing views and deconstruct it when you can.

You're one of the folks that give me some iota of hope that this forum still has some intellectual relevance

Why are you even wasting your sweat developing other people's land while your own rots away undeveloped? Where is the sense and wisdom in that?

The 2006 was nonsense in Lagos state, in the estate i lived in then out of the 4 streets, only one was mapped and enumerated by the Federal NPC agents while the Lagos state team counted the 4 streets. The 2 groups confirmed this to me while counting us as we were in A street.

Lagos has been the capital of Nigeria since 1914 till 1991. Way before Akwaibom came into existence.

And prior to that was the major British colony in West Africa even in the 17th century.

For someone to wake up and start showing pictures of painted kerbs and Lagos skyline, fraudulent PPPs and substandard architecture in a megacity that is centuries old.

And worst of all go ahead and compare it to a state that is a few decades old is extreme stewpidity.
Which further buttressed the monumental failure Lagos is.

Before you scream allocation.

Lagos IGR more than makes up for this.
The FG presence in Lagos is unparalleled as virtually all the major bridges are FG owned and serviced as well as different FG ministries.
The private companies apart from taxes have a cooperate social responsibility that Lagos heavily benefits from.

So what does the state do with all the IGR.
Where is Lekki international airport?

Wher is Eko Atlantic?

Where is Lagos light rail?

No standard sport facility in a megacity.

These are the projects we should be asking of, not Brown 3 story buildings built for friends and tagged estate.

Did you find anywhere the OP showing any project before 1999 or even any before 2007 when Fashola came in as governor. The comparison is what the 2 governors achieved with the income available to them for 8 years. The total income of the 2 states is very close as it is between 450 - 500 Billion budget per annum when it is Federal allocation, 13%, or IGR, money is money. The question is how and on what was it spent. Is the project commensurate with money spent, by what degree and what is the impact, does it meet the real pressing needs of the people.

LAGOS FUNDS RESEARCH WITH N142.2M

The Lagos State Government has disbursed N142.2 million to some universities in the country to fund research in various fields.

Lagos Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pension, Florence Oguntuase, disclosed this at the first Exhibition of the Lagos State Research and Development Grants, LRDG, Projects organised by the Lagos State Research Development Council, LRDC, in Lagos.

She disclosed that of the N142.2 million approved for research by Governor Babatunde Fashola, N126.2 million has been disbursed to the benefitting tertiary institutions, adding that the balance of N14.2 million would be disbursed after the exhibition.

The beneficiaries are Lagos State University, LASU; University of Lagos, UNILAG; Pan African University, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State; Caleb University; Yaba College of Technology and African Languages Technology Initiatives.

The commissioner said exhibitions were carried out in 31 project areas which the fund released were used in carrying out research.

Speaking at the event, Fashola said the state had demonstrated that through research and development, it could harness home grown innovative ideas whose implementation would move the state closer to achieving the State Development Plan 2012-2025.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, said the exhibition focused on researches in the areas of manufacturing, environmental sciences, Media, Culture and Creative Industries; Health Care Delivery; educational needs as well as power/energy, among others.

Chairman of LRDC, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro said the state government set up the council in 2012 with the sole aim of looking into the Lagos State Development Plan 2012-2025 by engaging in research that would aid its fruition.

He stated that there was no way Lagos could achieve its developmental plan without research, saying that the council came out with research in key areas such as health, education and others.

“We advertised for proposals and about 80 to 90 research proposals were received out of which 31 were approved. The results of what you are seeing today are efforts of researchers working for five months,” he said.

He called on the state government to ensure continuation of research by giving out more research grants to aid research, saying that the quality of research carried out by the researchers was unrivalled anywhere in the country.

Prof. Oke Bukola, Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, said at least 300 researchers working in 31 teams undertook the research, while commending the Lagos State Government for funding the research.

He called on the government to provide more money for research and it should sustain the good work it had started. Bukola urged the researchers to come up with position papers on what they had researched to be distributed to various government’s ministries for policy formulation and future development.

I think by know we all got the gist.

The fact that Gov. Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos state delivered on behalf of the people of Lagos more than any government in the History of Nigeria is indisputable, but this thread is not only a labor of Love even though placing a grossly unproductive Akpabio next to Fashola sounds like a disservice to Fashola, but it's also a necessary need to draw this sharp contract and silence the lies and deception about Akpabio as a productive and accomplished governor when in fact it's the other way around.

1. Akabio with just 5 million people posts the largest budgets in Nigeria, but apart from the few roads and flyover bridge, he completed only 3 projects. 1 library, 1 unused and redundant waste/football field and 1 cinema .. in fact it's just 2 because the cinema is part of the Tropicana and the tropicana is no where near completion..

2. The one and only hospital he dabbled into since 2007 is still uncompleted.

3. With the largest budgets in Nigeria, he has no visionary projects and in fact, apart from the few roads and flyover bridge, he has less than 10 projects under construction and they are all uncompleted while Fashola with smaller budget and 20 million people delivered hundreds of projects and hundreds still under construction across the state.

1. convention center = Uncompleted

2. 1 and only hospital = Uncompleted

3. Tropicana = Uncompleted

A with so much money with very little population should have the grandest, visionary and many daring projects in Nigeria, but he has less than 10 non road projects.

What a waste and disappointment..

I don't have to visit any state to find out what the governor did in terms of projects and development because there is something called budgets and development plan where the state lists it's projects based on what they budget for.

We know exactly the numbers of projects he awarded and completed. You can not make up what's not on the books.

Apart from the few roads and flyover, all he completed are 1 library, 1 cinema, 1 mall, 1 football field and 1 hospital that's still not completed because they still have construction cranes at the site, all this is leaving office wuruwuru magic.

Governors with smaller budgets completed dozens on projects while akpabio's completed projects are less than meager and miserable 6.

It is a pity that Nigeria is a place where horses are compared with donkeys. The Lagos which Fashola inherited has been developed by the federal government of Nigeria. It is really act of foolishness to insinuate any form of comparison between Fashola and Akpabio. Akpabio had turned a relatively jungle into a respectable environment yet goons still have effrontery to talk about comparison. Any dumbass will look like a genius as the governor of Lagos State.
