27 states were approved, these are just those that have received theirs.

They should just list all of them, we don't want backdoor situation of eat wipe mouth and say "we didn't receive any".

That is ehn! Ndi imo atala nshi aboki!

TA with all his mismanagement did not leave Abia in such financial mess!

Who will repay all those loans? And from where? Crude oil prices can only go on way from now onwards, and that's downwards,Imo monthly allocation from the FG is not going to increase anytime soon.
actually 14bn for abia is a bit on the high side including the already existing 6bn the owe as their domestic debt..abia needs a focused and financial guru to really run the state if you also include the 30bn the present gov borrowed..
As for Imo I shudder to think the cummulative debt now

Kaduna,Anambra,Kano,Lagos,Rivers,Crossriver,Jigawa, , Yobe and Akwaibom are the states not on the list.
Why emphasizing on four states only? Also give kudos too the other states managing their resources with prudence.

I hope CBN is directly in charge of the disbursement of these money for the payment of salaries, instead releasing these large chunk of money to all these greedy and thieving governors to be embezzled again.

• Kwara, Osun, Zamfara commence payment of salary arrears, 24 other states to follow
Obinna Chima

In line with the federal government’s resolve to reflate economic activities in the country, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will this week continue the disbursement of its special intervention fund totalling N338 billion to 27 states in the country.

Already, the funds to Kwara, Zamfara and Osun States were disbursed last week and they have commenced the payment of salary arrears to workers in their respective states, THISDAY learnt yesterday.

A source at the central bank confirmed that more states would get their monies this week.
From the breakdown of funds made available to the first three states to which monies were disbursed last week, Kwara State got a total of N4.320 billion from the special intervention fund, Osun got N34.988 billion, while Zamfara was given N10.020 billion.

The loans repayable at an interest rate of nine per cent over a 20-year period
, also showed that Abia State is expected to get N14.152 billion, while Adamawa State will receive N2.378 billion; Bauchi – N8.60 billion; Bayelsa – N1.285 billion; Benue – N28.013 billion; Borno – N7.680 billion; and Cross River – N7.856 billion.

In addition, Delta has got the central bank’s approval to receive N10.036 billion; Ebonyi – N4.063 billion; Edo – N3.167 billion; Ekiti – N9.604 billion; Enugu – 4.207 billion; Gombe – N16.459 billion; Imo – N26.806 billion; Katsina – N3.304 billion; Kebbi – N0.690 billion and Kogi – N50.842 billion.

Nasarawa is also expected to get N8.317 billion, while Niger will receive a total of N4.306 billion; Ogun – N20.00 billion; Ondo – N14.686 billion; Oyo – N26.606 billion; Plateau – N5.357 billion and Sokoto will get N10.093 billion.

The source, a senior central bank official, stressed that with the disbursement of the N338 billion to the 27 states that applied for the special intervention fund, economic growth would be stimulated through the payment of outstanding salaries to workers who have been owed for months.

He explained: “Once salaries are paid, we expect consumption to increase nationwide and this will go a long way in stimulating economic activities.

“After disbursing to Kwara, Osun and Zamfara, more states which applied will get their funds this week, and we have ensured that we kept the interest rate low at 9 per cent and loans repayable over a 20-year period.”

As part of the federal government’s resolve to end the lingering crisis of unpaid workers’ salaries in the country, especially in several states of the federation, President Muhammadu Buhari had approved a comprehensive relief package designed to salvage the situation.

Part of the relief package was the CBN's special intervention fund to be offered to states, which would be in the form of soft loans available to states to access solely for the purpose of paying the backlog of salaries.

The approval of the special intervention fund was sequel to the decision by the National Economic Council (NEC) at its meeting of June 29, 2015, that had requested that the CBN, in collaboration with other stakeholders, should appraise and consider ways of liquidating outstanding workers’ salaries owed by state and local governments.

The conditions for accessing the facility included resolutions of the respective state executive councils (SECs) authorising the borrowings and state Houses of Assembly consenting to the loans, as well as issuance of Irrevocable Standing Payment Orders (ISPOs) to ensure timely repayment at source from the states’ Federation Account allocations.

Osun, oyo and ogun leads the pack with staggering amount. ANAMBRA always absent. Why? I heard they increased their salary and already working towards increasing it again by the end of next year. I think all Nigerians governors should quickly go to Anambra governor to learn. Is it true that Anambra state has the most tarred community road in Nig.

True. But we have grown to always expect worst from Abia since T.A touched that state.

Yet financially, Okorocha is going to leave Imo worst than TA left Abia.

True Bro. Most towns are interconnected by a network of tarred roads.

Anambra is a wonder. Forget Kano , she has higher FG allocation and dubious number of LG ensures more allocation to her, Rivers and Akwa Ibom are swimming in oil money.

But Anambra, she is a model state, very meagre allocation from the FG, just abundance of human resources and most importantly, competent and focused leadership.

Kudo's also to Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe n of course FCT for managing their funds well. The others shld learn from them.

Now the Govt has bailed them out even though it's thru loans, there is no excuse for any of the 27 mentioned to have any salary arrears till 2019.

Except in very very exceptional circumstances, Non payment of workers salaries by Gov's shld be made a criminal offence punishable with a very long jail term + life banishment for running for any kind of public office. There shld be provision for this in our constitution. This will keep them on their toes.

Imo state debts should be approaching the size of lagos debts.
That state is one of the worst governed in the past 10 years.

Finally on the front page, so that some people will see how their states are being ruined and wrecked daily with with loans upon loans..

Some states should be acquired by the big four- Lagos, Rivers, Anambra and Kano.. cool
But i still believe that Anambra is the safest among the four: they continued to increase their workers salary and with the biggest savings.

Edo is way bigger than Ekiti but Ekiti is recieving 6 billion above what Edo is recieving. Why won't it be like that after Fayose bought every vote PDP got in the state with between N500 and N1000.

You have no idea of the new depths of debt Fayemi's government house projects put Ekiti into, among other things. Only Fayose understands how he has managed not to owe salaries.

Abia state is also one big disappointment.
A commercial state that should be a direct economic rival to lagos is just crawling under the the weight of consistent bad governance.
Under normal circumstances, abia should be the one pulling the weight of the entire old eastern region.

First of all, Imo needs a competent and focused leadership. That's the first step, get that and the rest might fall in place.

They just have a way of voting in nitwits.
And for a state which is probably the most liberal in the eastern region, it is an irony and a sad situation.

It means Fashola and tinubu chop remain small for Ambode.

And my monthly tax of almost 7k is doing something.

Kudos to Anabra, River and Kano too.

On a more serious note, these loans should not be spanned for up to 20yrs, 10yrs should be ok with maybe a lesser interest rate of 7% or so, and a particular amount be paid on yearly basis, and if they cannot pay, FG should make a point of duty to deduct a certain amount from their allocations per month to service the portfolios.

My reasons for ^^^^.(It might not be economically wise, but. Think it will be accountability wise)

All these incompetent governors that borrowed these money, might not pay the money b4 they leave office thereby making the next people to inherit their incompetency (liability). It might hinder the development of the future govt(giving them bad names).

A typical example of kogi state.

*you can't tell me that kogi state owes its workforce in arrears of up to N50billion.

*i don't think they owe up to 15billion, now the remaining 35billion will go to capital expenditures(developments and all that) + their normal allocations from FG will always be remitted to their accounts.

*now the current govt will be seen as a working governor, because, he borrowed and Is not paying back(interest inclusive). The principal and interest will be mounting and is being accumulated and shifted to the next administration which might be forced to pay back @ all cost.

*when the future administration will start paying and @ the same time running the state, the achievement will not be @ par with the last administration, thereby calling the current/future an incompetent administration comparing the past that brought about the whole mess in the 1st place.

*now, the corrupt is celebrated and the future is termed the evil.

My eye don de pepper me, good night fellas
