Nice nice, you're practicing semi extensive system of snail farming.

But as some one said, the net space is too much and pests can easily come in.

Equally, planting forage for the snails in there would have been a nice one too
The problem with the plants is that the snails will eat them up before they germinate. Which means I will have to move them out first so that the plants can grow. I didn't think about the idea earlier so I think my small vegetation will just serve that purpose for now. Bro, what about the feeds that we discussed earlier?

Hi people, started my small pen abt 6 weeks ago with about 40 snail.
Hand picked them from around. I hope it expends to something bigger eventually.
My problem is that I noticed at the end of a week or two the pen becomes waterlogged even though I stopped watering it. This makes d snails hang in the cover even lost a small one cos it drowned. I really don't know if it's from the fruit n veggie or rain...
Been using grounded eggshell for calcium source n dey eat it well.
None of my eggs is hatching too ideas please...
1. The pen after I turn out the old soil n added fresh soil
2. A waterlogged pen

Hello Base83,

What you should understand about the pen you are using for rearing your snails is that while it has a water inlet source, it has no water outlet source. This means that whatever water you spray on the snails will stay back in the pen and keep accumulating there.

The main advice I'd give you is that you should open the underside of your pen just as you did with the top. Incorporate little holes under the pen so that excess water can find a way to leave.

Where possible, please get a tyre for them as a new pen cos that will be way more natural for them than this bucket you are using

Thanks Neduzze, really appreciate the advice. I thought about an outlet too buh the pen is on my Balcony on the second floor of the building, so an outlet means it will leak down to the neighbours down, and cannot leave it in the compound yet cos of proper monitoring and the snail security sef cos its not a one person compound in lagos. thanks again

Then try to avoid excessive rain and water from getting into the pen

what i usually do is air dry the shell and then ground it to tiny bit and jus pour it in the pen. the snails eat it jus like that

It takes about 6 months from hatching for a snail to start laying eggs under the right condition.

That is Achatina Marginata... For me, it's the best specie of Giant African Land Snails because of their size.

They can be sold as much as 600 naira per one which is equally dependent on the nature of your clients.

Snails are nocturnal animals i.e, they are active during the late evening hours through till early morning hours.

Then they sleep during the afternoon hours.

Your snails are climbing up looking for where to hide

Yeah... WHoever gave you that advice was on point. If you can afford it, serve them that twice in a week.

Make sure there's a source of calcium for them. That can be gotten from well grinded eggs or you talk to <ahref=www.nairaland.com/plopapy>Plopapy</a>
