This is disheartening. I would rather live in Nigeria and be drinking Garri and peanuts everyday than live in the Uk and be harassed everyday by the police. Living the life of an illegal immigrant is worse than hell itself. No peace of mind, no sound sleep, always worrying, always watching your back. Horrible way to live

When people told me law enforcement stop people and ask for papers on the streets I thought they were joking until I watched all those immigration shows on YouTube. Pathetic is to say the least. Nobody will stop you in America to bring your papers. To the best of my knowledge sha Oo.

Omo if na so their papa do mistake. No wonder he tried every possible means to learn French so he can land a job in France. grin grin grin

Trying to sound British, talking through the nose and claiming '' I have dual citizenship''? You see policemen and you expect them to harass you because you are black.

Dual citizenship means you are not loyal o, from the Nigerian constitution angle you cannot hold any public appointment.

I like my Nigeria sha . At least if Police harass me I go know say their brain dey touch that day and no be because of say I black.

Isn't it the same story with Nigerians living in the US? You mean all those Nigerian cab drivers all over New York City just have naij accent but they aren't Nigerians, no? All those Nigerians on canal street aren't Nigerians? The ones all over Brooklyn who look like they just left the boat aren't Nigerians?

When did the population of Nigerians in the UK get to 2million where there aren't even 2million black Africans in the UK? A lot of you just get gassed off London and start throwing millions around. I doubt there are up to 500,000 Nigerians even in London where 80% of Nigerians in the UK live.

As soon as I saw Peckham in North London - I knew this clown has no clue about what he is saying. Peckham is in South London. And statistically there should be more Nigerians around Thamesmead/Bexley and Thurrock axis (maybe Havering) than Peckham today. It changed time ago but a lot of Nigerians still come to Peckham to shop tho.

Anyway, the hustle is real.
True that..more Nigerians around that Lewisham/Woolwich/Thamesmead/Abbey Wood area than Peckham these days.

A country where one is seen as inferior because of the colour of one's skin... E no better make I jejely de for nigeria, nd make my cool money#i don't have to travel out to be successful. there's a lot here that needs to be exploited

But I've not heard any law enforcement officer just walk over to you and ask you to show your papers; when you have not done anything. How are you though? Long time no see grin

That is a very valid food for thought.
I am never an advocate of the idea that one can never make it until s/he travels out. Its the "grass is greener on the other side syndrome".
But then, why will it be a mission impossible for many graduates (even with masters) working in Nigeria to have financial fulfillment when people that ventures abroad seem to be thriving - even though those adventurous people may (or may not) be doing "unskilled" job.

But the fact is that, to a large extent their is dignity of labour over there and people see nothing wrong in being a cab driver, plumber, electrician etc. In fact they are proud of it and as the write-up suggests, a cab driver is able to build a house in Lekki!

However, what I have problem with is people selling their house here in naija and relocate abroad, only to be living in one room apartment doing 2 to 3 jobs a day. In all people should sincerely evaluate their situation before "checking out". The grass may just be greener here. But then, some people simple do not have any choice other than to relocate.
I like your objective thinking, let me give you a situation of a friend I know,Sold his house N3M,moved to the UK, his younger Bro moved with him, they both went underground and worked in the black labour mkt, doing 12 hours shift daily.cos of the long hours their take home each was always above £1800 monthly so in total they both generate £3600 monthly B4 rent and food and other xpences. rent was £500 cos they both live in one room.the jointly post £1500 home each month thats more than N500k so if they do this for 3 years the would have saved N18M.At teh 4th year they decide to pack up and return back to Nigeria, would you say they have made a wise decision?
