Islamist group al Shabaab kills 15 soldiers .


MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Al Shabaab insurgents killed 15 Somali soldiers and retook a town northeast of the capital Mogadishu on Sunday, just one day after it had fallen to government forces, the military said.

The Islamist group, which wants to topple Somalia's Western-backed government, said it had killed 32 soldiers in the assault. It was not possible to verify independently the death toll. Al Shabaab has inflated casualty figures in the past.

Captain Nur Ali said the attack had taken place early on Sunday morning in the town of Runirgood, about 180 km to the north east of Mogadishu.

"Al Shabaab used a suicide car bomb to penetrate a military base. It exploded and then fierce fighting followed. At least 15 soldiers died," Major Abdullahi Omar, a second army officer, told Reuters from the region by phone.

"The soldiers (at the base) were few and there were no AMISOM or other military nearby for reinforcement. We killed more than 10 militants in fighting on Saturday and Sunday," Omar added. AMISOM is the African Union peacekeeping mission.

Residents of Runirgood said they had seen dead bodies of both al Shabaab and government soldiers in the town.

Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab's spokesman for military operations, said its fighters had killed 32 soldiers and captured three vehicles.

BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS NOW HIDE IN FOX HOLES



In compliance with the military high command’s directive which is to ensure that all villages and towns are cleared of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 22 Brigade Garrison in Operation LAFIYA DOLE, on Sunday 1st May 2016 cleared 4 villages of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in the area.

The terrorists hibernating in Cinga, Mallum Maja, Bosuma and Murye villages, were armed with dangerous weapons and have been terrorizing the communities. During the operations 3 Boko Haram terrorists were killed, while 9 of them who tried hiding in foxholes and dug outs were identified and captured alive.

Items recovered from them include 9 Dane guns, 3 machetes, 1 bow with arrows, 6 motor cycles used by the Boko Haram terrorists to ferry slaughtered cow meats to Boko Haram terrorists hideouts were recovered and burnt. Other items recovered include 1 tricycle, 4 x Tiger Generators and 1 solar panel.

The troops also recovered 300 herds of cattle rustled by the Boko Haram terrorists from Fulani herdsmen and handed over to their rightful owners. Similarly, 400 persons held hostage by the terrorists were rescued and set free.

It is gratifying to state that we have not sustain any casualty to own troops and equipment and troops morale remain very high.

Nigerian Navy to acquire logistics vessel to beef up security operations


In a bid to beef up security operations and patrols at sea, the Nigerian Navy (NN), said it is working towards acquiring a logistics vessel to service vessels and enhance Replenishment at Sea (RAS).
The outgone Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Logistics Command, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ofik, made this disclosure during his handover to his successor, Rear Admiral SAG Abbah, in Oghara, Delta State.
During the handover Ofik said, “For the first time in the history of the Nigerian Navy considerable effort is being made to acquire large logistics vessel to enhance Replenishment at Sea (RAS). Similarly, all professional schools now have special allocation of fuel AGO to ensure trainees/ UTOs learn and study under comfortable conditions.”
While enumerating the success of the command upon assumption of office in September 2015, he said he set out with the aim of enhancing the capacity of the command towards delivering the required logistics support for the force’s operations as well as ensuring the enhancement of personnel welfare among others.
He said although the task had been quite challenging, considerable progress was made, especially with the commitment, zeal and support exhibited by the personnel attached to the command.

He said the personnel of the command have been working assiduously to ensure that the Operations Commands got the needed support to deploy and sustain ships at sea in order to perform our statutory roles.
In the same vein, Ofik urged personnel of the command to maintain positive attitude to work and remain resolute in ensuring that the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Strategic Directive 2015-1 is strictly observed in the performance of our duties, adding that the strategic directive is a commitment to transforming the Navy and enhancing the overall welfare of officers and ratings.
The CNS Strategic Directive 2015-1, he said, has been a tremendous guide which should be adhered to at all times, if the command is to be on same page with other naval formations always.
While explaining that the bedrock of the military and other successful organisations is discipline, Ofik enjoined all personnel to remain disciplined not engage in activities that will bring the name of the NN into disrepute.

DICON embarks on reverse engineering to meet needs of North East operations


The Defence Industries Corporation (DICON) has embarked on a deep research and reverse engineering aimed at meeting the needs of North-east operations against Boko Haram, especially fabrication of spare parts for the weapons used in the theatre of operation.
The Director-General of DICON, Maj-Gen. Bamidele Ogunkale, stated this when his National Metallurgical Development Centre (NMDC) counterpart, Prof. Ibrahim Madugu, paid him a courtesy visit.
Ogunkale in a statement signed yesterday by the corporation’s Public Relations Officer, Maj. Emmanuel Adeniyi, also agreed to work together with the NMDC, in the proposed Military Industrial Complex (MIC) for the country.
He said: “The Defence Corporation is currently embarking on deep research and reverse engineering aimed at meeting the needs of North-east operations, especially fabrication of spare parts for the weapons used in the theatre of operation.
“Our priority for now is to upgrade our Research and Development Department, since it is quite evident that we cannot attain the goal we are setting for DICON without investing more on research. We also have a production line where G3 rifles were produced, but we are exploring the possibility of upgrading the production line to where we can produce AK47 that would be acceptable by the Armed Forces who are our end users and other security agencies”.
“As soon as I took over the mantle of leadership in DICON, I convened a meeting with my management staff to identify various bodies that the corporation would collaborate with in our effort to reposition DICON to become the pride of the Nation, National Metallurgical Development Centre, Jos was first,” he added.

Ogunkale said that the Jos based Centre, “would no doubt be an indispensable ally in the Defence Headquarters (DHQ)’ envisioned Military Industrial Complex for which DICON was to be the epicentre”.
He further noted that some of the parts fabricated for some of the Nigerian Army artillery guns would have to be subjected to further test in terms of alloy component of the material used, stressing that it was in this area the technological expertise of the Metallurgical Institute would be highly needed.
The Director General also said DICON had compiled the areas the Metallurgical Centre assistance would be needed, adding that the corporation was quite eager to enter into partnership with the centre.
Earlier, Madugu stressed that the bane of the nation’s technological breakthrough was that “we do not task ourselves enough adding that we believe we can always buy or import our material needs.
“Nigeria has the human capacity, our young men should be tasked to carry out research, we are not giving them enough task. For us in the Metallurgical Centre, we make ourselves available; it is our utmost desire to see Nigerians ride on made in Nigeria cars,” he said.
According to him, “if DICON and the NMDC collaborate in some areas the demand of the armed forces in particular would be met and that of the country in general, stressing that the Metallurgical Centres in Egypt and South Africa play vital role in these countries Defence Industries.”

what are the major weapons BH deployed; the RPG, AA-GUNS/HMG and AK RIFFLE. so you are telling me that from 2012-2015 when BH had the upper hand and our troops where humiliated we didnt have the same weapon the SO CALLED RAG-TAG insurgency was using.

A lot of factors where responsible for these failures, political and social will to end insurgency by our goverment and top security chiefs, troops not being paid there allowance and not properly feed and you expect them to lay down there lives,tribal and ethnic factor in our politics, troops not properly Trained for CTCION than the conventional war they are used to.....

the most powefull and the most deadliest weapon BHT has deployed and till now we dont have proper solution to, his the various ways BH has being deploying I.E.D/BOMBS ,which has claimed lives,slow down troops advancement and made sambisa forest a dreaded place to be.

British troops land in Somalia to join UN battle against Al-Shabaab militants


British troops arrived in Somalia today to join efforts against Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia.
The soldiers, the first of up to 70 set to be deployed there this year, are part of a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission to counter the extremist group.
The military personnel, from Force Troop Command, 1 Div and Field Army training, will offer medical, engineering and logistical support to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said the move reinforces the UK's commitment to targeting terrorism around the world.


Al-Shabaab is al-Qaeda's affiliate in Somalia and operates primarily out of the country's southern and central regions.
Mr Fallon added: 'This deployment is another demonstration of the flexibility and global reach of our Armed Forces.
'Alongside our efforts in Iraq, Syria and Nigeria, it shows our determination to tackle terrorism wherever it rears its head.'
Announcing the deployment in September as he prepared to attend a summit at the UN General Assembly in New York, David Cameron said 'all the right force protection arrangements' would be put in place to minimise the risk of harm.
The Prime Minister also announced personnel would be deploying to South Sudan, where inter-tribal fighting has forced people from their homes and left millions facing a severe food shortage, to provide engineering work to strengthen infrastructure.

The assignments are part of the Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) pledge to double the number of UK troops on UN peacekeeping tasks from the 300 currently deployed.
The new deployment comes amid continued speculation about Britain's role in a mission to support the new Government in Libya. 
Last month, Philip Hammond admitted Britain might have to deploy combat troops to fight ISIS in Libya.
The Foreign Secretary acknowledged the severity of the threat on Europe's doorstep as a new government in Tripoli battles to exert some control over the war-torn country.
Mr Hammond has repeatedly said in recent weeks there are no plans in place for Britain to join a new mission in Libya - despite firm reports a 1,000-strong British force will be deployed on a training mission.
But in a newspaper interview Mr Hammond said nothing should be ruled out, adding Royal Air Force or Royal Navy assets could also be deployed alongside the Army.

At no point where they even better equipped than the Nigeria.


A soldier/civilian saying/claiming insurgents carry 23mm, while we only go out with AK-47s and RPGs is just ludacris.

Nigerian military launches ‘Operation Crackdown’ on Sambisa Forest


The Nigerian armed forces have in a final onslaught against the Boko Haram, deployed ground and aerial personnel deep inside Sambisa forest to clear the remnants of the terrorists’ enclave and rescue all hostages, including the Chibok girls who were abducted from their school two years ago.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin, disclosed this monday while fielding questions from journalists at the Military Command and Control Centre (MCCC), Maiduguri, Borno State.
Olonisakin’s disclosure came just as the Nigerian Army announced the arrest of the alleged killers of Major-General Mohammed Shuwa who was assassinated in 2012 by suspected Boko Haram members.
The CDS, who was flanked by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, and Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, said the special operation, which started five days ago, is code named ‘Operation Crackdown’.
According to him, the visit of the service chiefs and other principal officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces, was to appraise the success of the onslaught and address the emergent challenges.
He said: “We are here to reappraise the operation that is ongoing. It started some days ago and we are here to appraise the level of performance of the ongoing operation. This is to actually see how we can address the issues we face in the operation.”
He said the operation was to clear out Sambisa forest, the enclave of the terrorists, adding that the challenges being encountered by troops would be addressed so that the momentum of the operation could be sustained.
Olonisakin explained that the major challenges being encountered by the troops in the area were landmines and the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) deployed by Boko Haram, adding that the problems were being sorted out with a combination of creative techniques and landmine resistant equipment.
“We have the challenge of mines of course, and it’s an issue we have been grappling with since this operation began. We have Counter-IEDs equipment we have deployed and other ingenious solutions that we put in place to ensure that the operation goes as planned,” he said.
Speaking further on the Sambisa operation, the CDS said the major aim was to completely wipe out the Boko Haram enclave.
In addition, he said the operation is five-pronged, one of which is to rescue the Chibok girls and all the Boko Haram abductees.
He said the military was determined to complete the operation of liberating not only the infamous forest and free the girls but to also ensure that every inch of Nigeria’s territory was freed from the terrorists.
“I want Nigerians to know that we are determined to wipe out terrorists fro m our land and from the Sambisa axis; we are going to make sure that we clear them as soon as possible. The rescue operation is also part of this ‘Operation Crackdown’ and we will like to tell you that there are five simultaneous operations within these latest onslaught.

TROOPS DESTROY BANDITS CAMPS IN KADUNA AND ZAMFARA STATES


The troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army have intensify clearance operations against cattle rustlers and armed bandits in Kaduna and Zamfara States, north western Nigeria.

Within the last four days, they have killed 2 notorious cattle rustlers that were suspected to have killed 7 innocents persons in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

They also arrested 5 declared wanted armed bandits and recovered arms and ammunitions from them and thereafter destroyed their camps.

The troops also conducted a clearance operation in Kudaru, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State in which they arrested 5 cattle rustlers, recovered arms and ammunitions and then destroyed the armed bandits camps.

TROOPS INTERCEPT ANOTHER BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS LOGISTICS TEAM CARRYING VIAGRA, ARRESTS TERRORIST


Today at about 9.25am in the morning, troops of 120 Task Force Battalion, 27 Task Force Brigade, in conjunction with vigilantes while patrol, intercepted 5 Boko Haram terrorists logistics team at Gotumba area trying to move logistics items to suspected Boko Haram hideouts at Aluwa, using 5 donkeys.

The terrorists on sighting the patrol team, ran and abandoned the items. However, the team pursued and killed 3 of them, while 2 escaped with gun shot wounds.

Items recovered from them include 3 packets of Tramol, 2 packets of Lamumol, 7 packets of Really Extra, 2 packets of Viagra, 2 o of Ulgra and 14 of washing soap. Other items include 4 rolls of Klin Detergent, 2 packets razor blade and 14 packets of Maggi, half-bag of table salt, 5 bicycle tyres and tubes, as well as 2 quick patch for tubes, 1 roll of matches and 10 pairs of rubber shoes. The troops also recovered large quantity of potash, onions, locust beans, some quantity of rice, mats and tarpaulin.

In a related development, based on information, troops of 7 Division Garrison today in conjunction Civilian JTF, arrested one Alhaji Bulama Budu at Old Maiduguri general area.

Preliminary investigation shows that Alhaji Bulami Budu, who hailed from Aiwa village, Mafa Local Government Area, was one of the Boko Haram terrorists detained at Giwa Barracks before he escaped when his colleagues, Boko Haram terrorists attacked the facility and released all the insurgents in March 2014.

His arrest would further lend credence to Nigerian Army investigation on the incidence about the number of casualties killed by the terrorists and those that escaped that day. He is currently being interrogated by the Joint Intelligent Committee.
