FG trains 800 repented Boko Haram members No fewer than 800 repented members of the Boko Haram sect are currently undergoing various trainings at the moment, the Director General of National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Alhaji Mohammed Sidi said on Monday. The NEMA DG, who made this disclosure at a two-day Public Hearing on the North East Development Commission Bill, 2016 said that the skill acquisition exercise was being handled by the military and monitored by the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Sidi, who was responding to the comment of a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kaka Kyari Gujbawu, who canvassed general amnesty for returning Boko Haram insurgents, said, “It is not true that the Federal Government has no amnesty package. There is what is called safe corridor.” “I do know that 800 plus (Boko Haram) have been registered. I don’t want to be specific. They have exited Boko Haram through the window. They are currently receiving various skill acquisition training. The military is handling it. It is being monitored by the Office of the CDS,” he added. |

NIGERIAN NAVY AVERTS PIRATE ATTACK ON 3 MERCHANT VESSELS The Nigerian Navy has averted pirate attack on 3 merchant vessels, namely MV MOXON, MT AFRICAN BEAUTY and MT MADONA. The vessels were attacked around Brass waterways in Bayelsa State on 3 and 4 May 2016. The criminals made spirited effort to seize the vessels but the timely response of the special protective team deployed by the Nigerian Navy successfully dislodged the pirates who fled to evade arrest. In a related development, the naval patrol team deployed by NNS PATHFINDER on 4 May 2016 discovered and destroyed 2 active illegal crude oil refineries located at NAFCON creek. The refineries had 7 storage tanks containing about 10,000 litres of stolen crude oil and 20,000 litres of illegally refined AGO. This is even as the patrol team destroyed a warehouse used by the criminals to hide illegally refined products. The massive warehouse located at Ikpokiri community in Rivers State had GP tanks containing suspected illegally refined AGO. Consequently, the new tactics of using warehouses by the crude oil thieves has been noted seriously. Therefore, the Nigerian Navy is warning owners of warehouses in the Niger Delta area to avoid the temptation of leasing out their properties to the criminals. The Service will not be held responsible for damages done to the properties in the course of the current clampdown on crude oil theft, vandalism and piracy in the area. As usual, you are requested to disseminate this information for the awareness of all. Commodore CHRISTIAN ODOGWU EZEKOBE Director of Information, Nigerian Navy |

TROOPS INTERCEPT ANOTHER SUICIDE BOMBER ******WARNING DISTURBING IMAGES******** The troops of 7 Division Garrison in conjunction with the ever dedicated Civilian JTF maintaining security and vigilance averted yet another attempt by the Boko Haram terrorists to unleash suicide bomber into the peaceful community of Sulaimanti, outskirts of Maiduguri city early today morning. The terrorist carrying Improvised Explosive Device (IED), attempted to attack worshippers at Sulaimanti mosque during early morning prayer. He was however prevented from gaining access to the mosque. Unfortunately, 5 civilians sustained injuries during the failed attempt. A team of Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) have successfully detonated the remaining IEDs and combed the area. The injured had since been evacuated to the hospital while troops and security agents have intensified patrol within the general area. The Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu has also visited the community shortly after the incident. He commiserate with them and reminded them of their civic responsibility to arrest or report suspected persons who usually reconnoitre their domain before carrying out suicide attacks and reassure them of the military and security agencies’ commitment to their safety and security. Thank you for your kind cooperation. Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman Acting Director Army Public Relations

why do they burn houses ? is it the terrorist caches ? explanations next to the pictures would be good to understand some pictures for those not familiar with the conflict like me may seem strange , as a teenager killed on his bicycle , womens and children gathered by soldiers with fear on their face, burned villages houses and food reserve , and some dead terrorists in civil clothes and unarmed in some picture some can even think that civilian were shot down and villages razed like ethnic cleansing from some pics ! the army's communication service should choose their pics more carefully ! and put photos like civilians glad to be free from boko haram and the arrival of the army ect... the mediatic weapon is also important to counter terrorism |

chkil: Tnks for the question....? BH as now resulted to gorilla warfare ; they sneak behind there line to liberated villages to gather food and other items. And while scavenging for food they also plant I.E.D's . To stop these routine activity, troops av to burn down every village down to make it non-hostile for BH activities. It a strategy I call ;"cleansing". On the issue of pictures of killed BHT; on bicycle, motorcycle etc most of them where killed trying to flee. Dead BH in civil clothes and some not even armed yes u r right, pictures most be chosen carefully. The realty of it is that they r Boko Haram militants or they believe in the ideology. Sambisa forest which is the main place remaining of there cells is being cut off of food, fuel and other means of survival so if u r not a BH member u should av nothing to do in that forest unless those who where held hostage..!!!!!!! 1 Like |

chkil: All those houses are not in any major town or city, they are houses built in Sambisa forest by boko haram. Nigerian military don't leave any form of food or anything that can be used as a means of transportation in those territories because if boko haram get hold of them after they leave the place, it will definitely aid the terrorists in carrying out their activities and that is why they always burn them. Now a days boko haram spend more time finding food and logistics than the time they use to carry out attack. They struggle to survive without basic amenities. For most of the women and children in the pics, you can't really say what has happened because boko haram used a lot of children and women in carrying out most of their attacks on civilians. Many have been brain washed and sometimes they could become a treat to the soldiers trying to rescue them. 2 Likes |

thank you for your answers , I guessed the context of these photos and yes cleaning caches and terrorist logistic it's a principle of the war on terrorisme . I just think the military communication service must also support the war effort in media and bring national and international support , it lacks pictures of the kind populations glad to be free from boko haram , joy and support to their army . it's very important to pass this type of image in the media and this media strategy was used all arund the world most wars and conflict |

Oga Chkil, If you go through the thread from the beginning you will see pictures of civilians happy to be liberated. Note that the area where the fight is going on now is not a civilian area. These areas are deep in sambisa forest which is purely boko haram controlled. Sambisa forest was a former game reserve about the size of wales+ scotland, taken over by BHTs, heavily mined and booby trapped Most of the women and children have been indoctrinated, impregnanted and converted to boko haram suicide bombers or couriers The military usuually rescues these people and takes them back to IDP camps in rear bases in borno or yobe states. Humanitarian actors such as medecins sans frontieres, icrc, red cross are active in these camps The government also runs de-radicalization centres for those indoctrinated as well The houses and food have to be burnt down to deny BHT access to logistics as well as from preventing them from using it as booby traps and logistics bases The women and children have been evacuated anyway. At the last count i believe the military confirmed up to 12,000 women and children rescued... chkil: 3 Likes |

ANOTHER SUICIDE BOMBER INTERCEPTED IN MAIDUGURI ********WARNING DISTURBING IMAGES *********** This afternoon, combined team of Nigeria policemen maintaining security duties at the entrance of Borno State Government Secretariat, (which was known as Musa Usman Secretariat) in Maiduguri, intercepted and prevented a male suicide bomber from entering to attack workers based on suspicion. Unfortunately, in the process of stopping him, he detonated the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on his body, instantly killing himself, a policeman and critically injuring another policeman that stopped him from gaining entry into the Secretariat Complex. Sadly, the injured policeman died later. Similarly, 18 people have sustained various degrees of injuries and have since been evacuated to hospital for treatment. Troops have cordoned off the area and evacuated all workers from the Secretariat and reinforced security. In addition, the Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) and K9 teams have been mobilized to the Secretariat for screening until it is declared safe. This unfortunate incident has reinforced the need for more security consciousness and awareness on the part of all of us as the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists and their sympathizers still mingle with the society. It therefore behoves on all and sundry to ensure that they are detected and prevented from carrying out their dastardly acts. Thank you for your kind cooperation. Boko Haram: Troops liberate 4,690 hostages, arrest 566 terrorists The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeast Nigeria and neighbouring countries of Chad, Niger and Cameroon said it has liberated at least, 4,690 hostages this year alone. The MNJTF Force Commander, Major General Lamidi Adeosu revealed this during the 2nd Regional Security Summit’s preparatory meeting of experts in Abuja on Thursday. He also said that the task force, within same period, has arrested a total of 566 Boko Haram terrorists across all the MNJTF sectors while another 675 terrorists were neutralized. Major General Adeosu added that 32 terrorists’ camps and Improvised Explosive Device making factories as well as equipment which include 318 motorcycles, 84 vehicles, 137 assorted weapons, 18 boats and other logistics were destroyed this year. He said these landmark achievements have helped in degrading the terrorists’ capability to carry out organized and coordinated offensive operations against own troops. Notwithstanding its achievements, the humanitarian situation within the MNJTF Area of Operation remains very critical, according to the Force Commander. While disclosing that there were 11 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and three Refugee Camps within the Task Force’s Area of Operation, Major General Adeosu said there was a need for urgent intervention from the participating governments to carter for IDPs and refugees’ needs. Similarly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffery Onyeama who declared the event open, said 916m Euros was needed to execute the Lake Chad development and climate resilience action plan. He therefore, called for world powers’ support in solving the lake Chad basin problem, noting that the water body has been severely affected by climate change. Speaking through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Bulus Lolo, the Minister also called on international partners to help provide hope for over 6000 unaccompanied children in the IDPs and refugees camps through provision of basic amenities in the affected areas. 1 Like |

Somalia: Local Official: Commandos Kill 15 in Raid on Al-Shabaab Base A Somali commando unit killed at least 15 suspected Islamist fighters Wednesday in a raid on an al-Shabab base in Galgudud region, central Somalia, the second such raid in two days. Local government official Qadar Mohamed Ali told VOA's Somali service that the aim of the raid was to destroy the base and neutralize the militants' capacity to organize and carry out regional attacks. Ali said Somali troops seized rocket-propelle grenades and mortars in the raid. He said no Somali troops were killed or injured. The raid came a day after an attack on an al-Shabab base in the village of Toratorow, about 100 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu, in which an unknown number of militants were captured or killed. There have been conflicting reports on how much involvement U.S. forces had in the Toratorow raid. Somali security official Mohamed Nur Gabow told VOA Somali that U.S. forces played a "lead role" in the operation targeting al-Shabab officials. He said U.S. personnel flew helicopters in the raid. Residents of Toratorow said the helicopters dropped Somali fighters on the outskirts of Toratorow to hunt for the militants on foot. But AFRICOM, the U.S. military command center in Africa, said U.S. fighters were not involved in any "kinetic operations" in the raid — meaning nothing that involved the use of lethal force. In a statement, AFRICOM said, "This was not a U.S.-led, nor was it a U.S.-unilateral operation." The United States has trained a Somali government commando unit known as “Danab” or “Lightning” of about 500 soldiers who conduct special operations. A similar joint U.S.-Somali operation took place in the nearby town of Awdhegle in March. The Pentagon said the U.S. played only a support role in that operation. The Somali government has battled al-Shabab since the al-Qaida-linked militant group formed in 2006. The U.S. designated al-Shabab as a terrorist group in 2008 and has given the Somali government financial and military support to combat the group. 1 Like |

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE INTENSIFIES ATTACK IN SAMBISA FOREST As part of the final onslaught against the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs), the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has increased the tempo of air strikes in the Sambisa Forest. The objective, as can be seen from the enclosed declassified footage of NAF air operations in Sambisa Forest, is to create the enabling environment that would enable the Surfaces Forces to move-in and flush out the remnant of BHTs from the Sambisa Forest. The NAF, in the past one week since commencement of the operation codenamed OPERATION CRACKDOWN, has mobilised more Fighter Ground Attack aircraft, Helicopter Gunships, and Medium Lift Helicopters to give the Operation the push required to flush BHTs from the Forest. Heavy bombardment of legitimate targets has continued to create the enabling environment for ground forces to move-in. Over 100 hours have been flown in a series of air operations including Air Interdiction (AI), Close Air Support (CAS), Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Logistics Resupply, and Medical/Casualty Evacuation (MEDEVAC/CASEVAC). The NAF is also involved in dropping of leaflets within and around the Sambisa Forest to encourage repentant terrorists to come out and embrace the olive branch offered by the Federal Government. Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, has charged NAF personnel involved in the Operation to remain at their peak in putting in their best in all assigned tasks as they enter into the last phase of the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast. Air Marshal Abubakar made the call while speaking with officers and men of 75 Strike Group Yola and 79 Composite Group Maiduguri. #nigerianairforce A NAF ALPHA JET STRIKE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=473zF2cd53Y |
