You welcomed. Every city in Netherlands is good, just that others have better student job opportunities than others.
Hey bro, I'm doing my MSc at the University of Stavanger, Norway and I'm considering going for an exchange at T.U Delft in August purely for academic reasons. Is it true that you can only do a part time job if your employer agrees to process your work permit for you, unlike here where you just look for a job and start without any procedures?
Are there good chances of finding student jobs in Delft from what you know about the country? And are there Nigerians there?

There are no jobs in Delft for foreign student so don't bother going there if you plan to work and study.
I did my MSc in TU Delft and lived in Delft for 2 years.

Contact the IND (https://ind.nl/en/contact) directly and explain your predicament. They will direct you on the next/necessary steps. Alternatively, you can tweet at them (@ind_nl), I prefer this as they reply faster to tweets. They will sort you out.

Hoi meneer. Hoe gaat het? Goed? I just saw your post and I thought to myself: a bit of a generalisation, innit? So, my two pence. Firstly, I've lived in Amsterdam (Zuidoost) and Utrecht, and both were relatively cheaper than UK's "cheap" city of Hull where I spent the last 14 months. Secondly, I have friends of EU and Non-EU descent with zero understanding of Dutch language living and working in NL. The chances of getting a job with only English proficiency depends on one's field and level of expertise. For eg. an entry level tech person doesn't need to know Dutch to carry out his work, while his manager (tech comapny) would need to speak and write Dutch to carry out his. Another example, a human rights advocate will generally need to be proficient in Dutch, English as well as one of Arabic/French/Spanish to get a job with an NGO in NL.

ATERI:

All you guys starting to go around the world, good luck to you. I hope what you come away with is that prayer and Jesus Christ mean little or nothing if you don`t have good leaders.
All of you should also know that UK is the only English speaking country in Europe and this matters if you are from English speaking country. English is widely spoken in Holland and the Scandinavian countries but English is not their official language.
As far as work is concerned, don`t deceive yourself expecting office work anywhere in a non-English speaking country, 95% of times it doesn`t happen.
Goes without saying that if you are in Holland and stay in their big cities, things would be more expensive for you. The big cities in Holland are Amsterdam. De Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht. Generally speaking, work is difficult to find in the North, that is around Gronnigen area, but if you are in Delft you stand a better chance around Brabant. Enjoy Holland, it`s one of the best-run country in the world with zero level of corruption and official criminality that is common in London and USA.
I mentioned it elsewhere, if you want to live in Holland after your studies, better start going out to meet Dutch girls to get married to.. Good luck to you all

Heel goed, mevrouw; met u? I would repeat the same question: what is the percentage of Nigerians that can`t speak the Dutch language do office work in the Netherlands? I have made it 5% in my post, what would you make it?

Remind me where I told anyone that things are more expensive in the Netherlands than any English town. I struggle to find anything that is cheaper in England than the Netherlands, even in a relatively small place like Hull. Or are you saying that Amsterdam, Den Haag, Rotterdam and Utrecht are not the most expensive cities in the Netherlands? I`m sure that was the point being made in my original post.

Sorry I can't give out my email. Ask your questions on the Norway thread and I'll be more than willing to answer you, that way more people can also benefit from the answers. I still follow that thread to help those who really need help.

Its been a while I left Delft so I don't know anybody left there as all the people I know studying for Phd have graduated and left. What exactly do you want to know about? As regards getting an admission, you will not have a problem with your GPA. The problem is always getting a scholarship/ funding because you have to compete with Asians, Europeans, Americans and other Africans for these fundings and it is usually not easy to get one.

I have admission to do a PhD in Theology in VU University, Amsterdam. My problem now is how to go about the visa application process. The school says tuition fees, visa and accommodation is to be provided by the student (the programme doesn't have any scholarship from the school). When I calculate the cost of these, it amounts to about 10,000 euros aside upkeep. At the moment, I have a sponsor who has promised me about 4000 pounds which translates into about 5000 euros. Meanwhile my main supervisor in the school has reached an agreement with me that I could come and spend three months annually in the Netherlands for my courses and return to Nigeria to continue with my research until my programme is done. Do you think the embassy will grant me visa with this constraint? Or can I first apply for a short stay visa and if the monies I'm expecting come in, I extend my stay? Is that possible?

Hello everyone,

I am here to say thank you to all that contributed meaningfully to this thread. I followed the thread quietly from about September 2015. I am happy to inform the house that i am now in the Netherlands as i arrived here 1st of February 2017, Rotterdam Business School to be precise. Please note that the Rotterdam Business School is the Business Faculty for the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.

The Rotterdam Business School currently offers Masters in Finance nd Accounting, Masters in Logistics and Management and lastly Masters in Consultancy and Entrepreneurship which is what i am studying. All three masters programmes are for a duration of one year.

Rotterdam is a brilliant city, the Netherlands is a great country, super developed.

Education and life at the Rotterdam Business School is student centered and inline with international best practice.

Finally application, admission and visa procedures at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences is very easy and straightforward. You will need your first degree certificates, first degree transcripts and IELTS. Once they give you admission, they will send you an invoice and you are given a deadline date to pay the tuition fees which is about 11,000Euros. You will also pay for health insurance and visa fee as well. Mine came up to a total of just over 14,000Euros.

Now you think of maintenance funds. Your Nigerian bank account or Family member bank account must show not less than 10,350Euros as the balance when printing the statement. You send this to them visa DHL. Alternatively, you can wire the 10,350Euros to the University and they will give you your money when you arrive the Netherlands.

The next step is that the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences will apply for your Visa from the IND.

The IND approves your Visa and they ask you to go and pick up your visa at the Kingdom of the Netherlands embassy in Ghana.

You then go on the Dutch embassy in Ghana website and book an appointment to get your visa stamped on your Nigeria passport.

Best of luck, hope this will help someone. Thank you.

Ik ben blij en opgewonden.

I think I am going to put my Netherlands plans on hold. Too much spine twisting stories of how odd the land is. Was hoping on seeking admissing at University of Twente for a building/Construction related Msc course and stay back to work while my family joins layer.
Been to Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and France before on project visit in 2012 hence my interest to migrate to Europe..

Good evening all,

I need someone to put me through. I gained admission into uni of twente for masters. Then I applied for uni of twente scholarship and Holland. The school sent a mail requesting for payment and mvv fees or scholarship letter and mvv fees.

My first question is;
How do I make the mvv payment - the acc number was sent quite alright but I don't know how to go about it.

Second is- what's the probability of getting these scholarships?

Third- how do i set an appointment with the ghanian embassy in advance in view of getting my mvv?

Fourth- what the cheapest routewould you recommend flying to Amsterdam? Is one or two stops advisable?

Fifth- I don't know anybody in the Netherlands. What kind of arrangement would be suitableas regards shelter on getting there? Is it advisable to book an hotel; orientation is 26th of August or start looking for a house to rent?

I'd appreciate it if the house can supportively give me answers.

emmerks:
I know so many people will be out to critize my earlier post whether there's nothing good in Netherland. There's a lot that can be enjoyed here

1. The economy is better
2. Good roads, and even people go on bicycle.
3. Bicycle here are equivalent to our cars
4. Its easier to start small here
5. All amenties are well catered for, elecricity, water, gas etc
6. Zero crime rate
Etc

Please if you can pass through the storm, I think Netherland is also a lovely place to be.

pls i need you candid point of view. so i got admission for saxion, the hague and wittenborg. all for the same courses (MBA) but where do you think its advisable to go for? based on getting a part-time job which i know is quite hard in getting as it is and also cost of living. Only wittenborg is 2years, the rest are just for one year. Please advise

To get a part time job on a student visa is impossible. This is because any prospective employer must apply for a work permit for you (+ pay the govt. a sum of money) and none would be willing to do so. If however you're thinking in terms of staying behind after studies to work and/or look for work, I would recommend The Hague. Networking is better there. Good luck

1. You can transfer if you have a dom account in NG. Or pay using Form A, that's what I did in my own time.
2. Accommodation is very difficult in NL. People have had to stay in hotels/hostels/motels for weeks before they found rooms. Best to go through the university housing board SSH. The Intl office of your school should be able to help. Alternatively, you can search for Facebook groups with the search words "Kamers in Twente".
3. If you're thinking of economy flights, I would suggest Turkish air with a stop in Istanbul or Royal Air Maroc with a stop in Casablanca. I've followed the latter twice, not bad.
4. With regards to Holland scholarship, there's no guarantee you will get it. Plan your finances wisely. Life in NL is expensive.
Best wishes.

You submit your visa application + MVV fees to IND via your school's intl office. Once the MVV is approved, the school will notify you to pick up your visa at Accra or Togo. For Accra, you must be at the gate before 8 AM and notify the security that you're there to pick up your MVV.

Good evening all,
Second is- what's the probability of getting these scholarships?

It depends.

For the Twente scholarship, there are around 50 scholarships available for all eligible applicants. If your application puts you among the top 50, then I imagine you'll get the scholarship.

yetundefadeyi:
Good evening all,
Fourth- what the cheapest routewould you recommend flying to Amsterdam? Is one or two stops advisable?

Go to flights.google.com and you can search for the cheapest options around the date you intend travelling. You could also set up notifications to be alerted with the flight prices change. In principle, direct flights are usually more expensive.

No idea if things are different in Enschede, but accommodation in the Netherlands is notoriously difficult to find. There are Facebook groups for finding accommodation in most cities though - here's one, for instance (https://www./1450067775247097/). Try posting on there a few weeks before you travel, and expect to spend a few days in a hostel/hotel after arriving while you make long-term arrangements.
