Please mamas, has anyone in their second trimester used coartem for malaria treatment before?
It was prescribed for me yesterday at my appointment. I bought it today but saw in its leaflet that it shouldn't be taken in the first 3 months.
"In later stages of pregnancy, you should take Coartem only if clearly necessary. Your doctor will discuss with you the potential risk of taking Coartem during pregnancy"

Please is this safe? Or is there a milder malaria drug mothers here in the 18th week and above have taken?
I don't want to take chances as I just entered 18th week.
Cc Zaynie, Docnneji and other sabi mamas.

Good evening mamas, Abeg I have a question, why do they say pregnancy is 9months when Edd is 40weeks? which is 10month, some even pass their Edd before giving birth. Mbok Ayam not understanding.

Team August how una dey?

Lolz, let me try.
Note: if you've the ACL, you're not really pregnant for the first 2wks.

There are 365/364days and 12months in a year and 7days in a week. If you divide 365 by 12(months)=30.4app31(days) remember we've a leap year
Divide 30.4/31from 7=4.4(weeks)
Divide 40wks(average preggy length)from4.4=9.09app9.1(normal length).

And is not only 4wks that we've in every month.

Dunno if I made sense self, Google will help out too.

Congratulations mama. Wonderful BS. Your Prince is blessed in Jesus name.

FloraEC:
Sorry for late bs

May2016: After the birth of my daughter(was a member here with diff already deactivated moniker). I told myself I won't try again till 2018(like some 2020 mama's already in 2018 tongue
May/June 2017: Found out I was pregnant, was really angry. Team February 2018, was cappo. Had all the hellish ms even heartburn.
Last week of June 2017: Woke up was bleeding heavily, blighted ovum, evacuated the next day. Why go through ms, heartburn, evacuation pains e.t.c and still loose the baby, lemme kukuma carry the belle and born na.
I followed up TTC thread, read and read.
September 2017: period delayed for 3/4days but later came on 28
October 2017: BFP, shared WIDD on TTC thread cos I learnt from there.

Pregnancy/Delivery

Pregnancy journey wasn't all that smooth but it was manageable. Had ms, high libido, body pains, excess urinating, purging, painful BH, black spots on my laps and tiger claws on my tummy. Was even stressed almost depressed.
Scan date started shifting from 16/17weeks to June but I was still working with my Lmp.
32weeks: Had a painful contraction and was even purging. Was given an injection, doctor told me to watch what I eat.
35+/36weeks: Started loosing Mplug, refused to be checked if I'm dilating.
37weeks according to lmp(14/06/2018): 39weeks according to the scan I did on Tuesday, baby's head measuring 40wks. Ate Queens pineapple on Wednesday afternoon, moved my hips on fours in the night.
Woke up to prepare my daughter's food that she'll take to school. Was frying Irish potatoes when I felt a liquid something on my lap, went to loo and checked it was blood, called DH and showed him. Told him that is my show and that he'll meet his son today(my potatoes still dy fire). Poured my burnt offering away, fried another. Prepared my daughter when the day broke, took her to school(trekked to and fro) and trekked to hospital on my way back(don't try it if you're already contracting).
I explained everything to my doctor who sent me upstairs to be checked and I was already 2cm dilated and other doc/nurse sig they wrote on the paper the nurse gave me to give the doc. He later suggested a membrane sweep which he did around 11/11:30am.
2pm: was checked and was 4cm. Doc induced me with CY and FBC(fear of ban is the beginning of abb drugs). Was having a normal cramps which was manageable. (maybe cos I'm team painful menstruation)
Hubby came told them to give me drugs(injection) that will help to ripen the cervix faster(they did it for my daughter) but they refused.
I refused to walk around can't come and start suffering early (don't be like me).
5pm: left the room to buy something and eat, was still climbing down the stairs when I heard a pumm sound from down, felt a liquid something on my left lap, rushed up, checked and it was blood. Called the nurse, she checked me and told me she don't know where the blood was coming from. She later called the doctor, who removed the catheter, inserted his hands, placed a nightingale under me and started bringing out lumpy stretchy blood. He told me that I'm having a heavy bloody show and I should not panick. He checked me and I was still 4cm dilated.
7pm: The contraction was painful but no longer pressing phone manageable. I didn't time it but I was breathing with my mouth whenever it comes.
8pm: Was checked again, was still 4cm dilated. I asked the nurse how manage? How? Why am I not progressing? Why am I having this kind of pains but not progressing? I climbed down from the delivery bed, knelt down and cried, told God that he didn't bring me this far to leave me, for how long will I continue managing this pain?
The nurse told me she'll help me, gave me IN injection for ripening of cervix on my bum. The contraction came back to back few min after the injection, she told me to lay on my left cos doc advised me not to walk around again to avoid bleeding.
They need to arrest the person that started the rumor that after first delivery the pain will be mild in other ones. Lieesssss!! The pain was painful that hubby started complaining, begging them to give me a pain relief. I felt cold, the nurse injected me, few mins later I started feeling very weak that I was begging the nurse and my hubby to allow me to sleep small but they refused instead she inserted the drip to give me energy. I begged nurse to break my water, she told me I should allow it to bulge well. I tried breathing, I cried, I slapped hubby and my cousin that was there with me, I was even bitting the pillow to hold the scream from escaping.
10pm: I told nurse that I want to poo, that I don't want to cross over to Friday, that she should break my water. That my water don't break on it's own. She said I should confess positively that God will do it.
Me: Nurse I know myself very well, I'm very weak now, lemme have strength to push this baby. Please save me and break the water, please. I believe in God but heaven help those who help themselves.
She later broke the water, I kept begging her to allow me to sleep but she still refused.
Told her I want to poo and vomit, she injected something inside my drip and told me to push in the next contraction. I vomited everywhere instead of pushing, she told me to try again in the next contraction. With one push, my son came out screaming his lungs out at 11:52pm. I said thank you Jesus, closed my eyes and the nurse gave me a slap on my lap, warned me not to close my eyes till I walk into mother&child room. Placenta was delivered, cleaned up and was stitched up.
Sunday: was discharged, stitch broke down. Returned to hospital and doc told me to come back on Thursday. Wasn't restitched again, healing perfectly on my own.
Cord has fallen off on the 3rd day, circumcision done(gomco method), first immunisation received.
Thanks mummy Zaynie for the vit c advice, it helped. Thanks VivyGift for taking up cappo role, I'll surely help out when I've time. Thanks for all the mentions and likes, God bless and safe delivery to remaining mama's.

BS Part 2.
Well that was how I kept carrying the pregnancy till it got to 3months and all fibroid pains disappeared. It was a miracle from God till it got to 9 Months. Long story short, at 34 weeks, baby was still breeched doctor said I should not panic since I'm not yet due. I went home in prayers and also practiced what I read here to go on all fours which I did. Went for scan again at 36 weeks or so can't remember and baby was already in Cephalic position. I was the happiest woman on earth hubby was happy too but we didn't know God had another plan for us irrespective of baby's presentation...
BS Part 3.

At week 38, I and Dh met the doctor for induction of labour cos I was already tired. Doctor agreed but i didnt show up at week 38 due to some circumstances. We later went to the hospital at week 39 I was admitted immediately was also given a bed in the maternity ward. Went to the labour room doctor began inducement with balloon folley cartherter by 7:45. I was closing my yansh feeling shy when the doctor said oya open your legs grin he said why you dey cover leg? O girl na wetin dey give me money be this o no be your yansh I wan look o grin grin grin ...Chei comman see me screaming shouting Jesus ooo Jesus ooo I can't bear this ooo I never knew that was how the pain was I would have just waited to fall into labour naturally cry. The Doctor kept saying Omoge hold on now lemme finish please. I was having pains that I can't describe under my abdomen. When he finished, under 25 mins or so I was wheeled to the maternity ward to wait till balloon folley falls off. I was wrigling in pains hitting the wall all through. Balloon folley finally fell off at 9pm Doctor was surprised he said he didn't expect it to fall so soon he was thinking it will fall of early in the morning so that I will be far gone by the time it falls off.

BS part 4.

Well in the morning on June 11, the doctors checked me and I was 4cm dilated. Was given drip, oxytocin to speed it up after taken 2 shots, after about 6 hours, I was still 4 cm shocked shocked shocked I will never forget the trauma I passed through with those poking of fingers each cry that shit is very painful. They said I was contracting but not dilating. I was still admitted till June 12 the next day. Doctors checked again I was still 4cm I was like which kind wahala be this? undecided undecided undecided
Doctor suggested another form of induction a drug to be inserted every 4 hours can't remember the name of the drugs...they inserted the drug thrice every four hours and the highest I could go was just 5cm still. Note that induction started June 11th to June 13th which was 3days... angry.
Long story short God directed the doctor to do another ultrasound scan on 13th June lo and behold, The baby is facing up instead of facing down(Obstructed Labour) shocked shocked shocked which was the reason dilation was not taking place. Hubby was with me all through the doctor told him to see him in the office asap while I was in the labour room confused. They refused to tell me what the problem was. They left me to go and discuss. ... embarassed

BS Part 5

Hubby later came back feeling downcast I asked what the problem was he said the doctor gave him two options..
1. For me to be discharged and be back in a week in order for baby to be positioned well for 1 week but the disadvantage is that baby may already be in distress which could be fatal for both mother and child.

2. Caesarian Section.

Hubby said he has already signed for CS. I gave him a hand shake that he made the right decision the most important thing is mother and baby alive irrespective of the birth method I don't care.
I and hubby prayed together, I was wheeled to the theatre, shaved, urine catheter inserted. At that point, I started crying and a senior nurse put me to her shoulder pleading with me not to please cry. That I should be strong. She was begging me that my cry can lead to high BP which will be another serious case. The anaesthetics a woman came, injected my spine and covered my front with a green cloth...she started asking me how I'm feeling, I told her I was feeling some shock on my legs. I could no longer feel anything from my waist down..meanwhile I didn't even know when the doctors started cutting and tearing. The anastetics came to me and said oya madam pray for us as I was praying, I started dosing off she kept slapping me to please stay awake. I opened my eyes again and told her to please play me some music. She asked me what kind of music I said gospel. She started playing me gospel music and gisting with me at the same time. Hubby kept on encouraging me. By 7:45pm, my princess was brought out and I heard her crying out her lungs immediately I heard her cry, I asked is that my baby crying, they said yes. I started crying too... cry they said ahn ahn she is her daddy's carbon copy. The daddy said at least i stole the sex while he stole the look. grin

They brought my snow white princess for me to see and also pray for her. When they were through with that process, I heard the doctors asking themselves now the question is can we remove the fibroid or not? He said OK let's proceed that was how the second round of surgery started. MYOMECTOMY!
They removed 3big ones and my husband came and showed me I told him I didn't want to see he said OK sorry ma undecided I was perceiving some smell I didnt like probably from cutting and sewing I told them please I want to throw up. But if the malaria symptom is mild you can just go for maldox. Maldox is not a good option for strong malaria even in 1st trimester. My 1kobo

BS Part 7(final episode). cheesy

They stitched me back and I was wheeled back to the labour room I saw all what they were doing after stitching ...they kept injecting different parts of my body with probably pain killers , injections, etc but I wasn't feeling anything due to the Anastasia. Surgery ended around 11pm and Anastasia started wearing off till about 3am I started feeling pain on the surgery site. My princess arrived on 13th June weighing 3.5kg. Surgery was done on wed 13th June and I was discharged on Friday 15th June. My hubby is the most supporting, loving and caring man on earth . I give God all the glory in all, I return all praise to him. I also want to appreciate all mamas on this thread I really learnt a lot. Also my team June mamas I appreciate you all. Thanks for the likes , mentions etc I really don't have the strength to start quoting every one now but I appreciate you all. I will be porting to the new born thread but will always peep here to say hi and also respond to quest ions i know answers to.

Below is a picture of my snow whitey princess whenever I look at her, I shed tears of joy and also forget all the pains I passed through. Indeed, motherhood is sweet...I also use her as a point of contact for all women all over the world believing God for the fruit of the womb. Cheers smiley smiley smiley
