When God created Adam, the process started from dust/clay. The breath of life/spirit was what made Adam lifeless body to become living being.

It's just like electricity. When you cut off power supply to an appliance, for example, a fan, it stops working. The electricity is needed to make the fan work, it not part of the fan itself.

That's how god's breath or spirit work. It supplies the energy needed for us to function.
