I have 19 fresher in my villa ,just to prove my point i asked each n every one of them,How much did u or ur parent paid for ur admission apart from the putme fee then ? All the reply was nothing . The highest bidder wins now.
Politics / FG Drops Forgery Charges Against NASS Clerk, Deputy by 2odd(m): 2:03pm On Oct 07, 2016
The Nigerian Government on Friday dismissed all allegations of forgery against a former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and his deputy Benedict Efeturi.

Messrs. Maikasuwa and Efeturi were charged alongside Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, for allegedly falsifying the Senate standing rule to help the Senate President and his deputy emerge leaders of the National Assembly in June, 2015.
They were arraigned on June 10 this year and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On Thursday, the Federal Government dismissed the allegations against Messrs. Saraki and Ekweremadu and filed an amended charge before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, against Messrs. Maikasuwa and Efeturi.
A litigation officer with the Federal Ministry of Justice, Odubu Loveme, told PREMIUM TIMES that government had made fresh applications to amend the charges, so that only Messrs Maikasuwa and Efeturi would continue to face trial.
On Friday, however, counsel to Federal Government on the matter, Aliyu Umar, said his client was withdrawing the entire charge at the Abuja High Court to allow a similar matter at the Federal High Court proceed.

Health / Sleep Paralysis by 2odd(m): 8:02am On Oct 07, 2016
Is Sleep Paralysis a Symptom of a Serious
Problem?

Sleep researchers conclude that, in most
cases, sleep paralysis is simply a sign that
your body is not moving smoothly through the
stages of sleep . Rarely is sleep paralysis
linked to deep underlying psychiatric
problems.
Over the centuries, symptoms of sleep
paralysis have been described in many ways
and often attributed to an "evil" presence:
unseen night demons in ancient times, the old
hag in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and
alien abductors. Almost every culture
throughout history has had stories of shadowy
evil creatures that terrify helpless humans at
night. People have long sought explanations
for this mysterious sleep-time paralysis and
the accompanying feelings of terror.

What Is Sleep Paralysis?

Sleep paralysis is a feeling of being conscious
but unable to move. It occurs when a person
passes between stages of wakefulness and
sleep. During these transitions, you may be
unable to move or speak for a few seconds up
to a few minutes. Some people may also feel
pressure or a sense of choking. Sleep
paralysis may accompany other sleep
disorders such as narcolepsy . Narcolepsy is
an overpowering need to sleep caused by a
problem with the brain's ability to regulate
sleep.

When Does Sleep Paralysis Usually Occur?

Sleep paralysis usually occurs at one of two
times. If it occurs while you are falling asleep,
it's called hypnagogic or predormital sleep
paralysis. If it happens as you are waking up,
it's called hypnopompic or postdormital sleep
paralysis.

What Happens With Hypnagogic Sleep
Paralysis?

As you fall asleep, your body slowly relaxes.
Usually you become less aware, so you do not
notice the change. However, if you remain or
become aware while falling asleep, you may
notice that you cannot move or speak.

What Happens With Hypnopompic Sleep
Paralysis?

During sleep, your body alternates between
REM (rapid eye movement) and NREM (non-
rapid eye movement) sleep. One cycle of REM
and NREM sleep lasts about 90 minutes.
NREM sleep occurs first and takes up to 75%
of your overall sleep time. During NREM sleep,
your body relaxes and restores itself. At the
end of NREM, your sleep shifts to REM. Your
eyes move quickly and dreams occur, but the
rest of your body remains very relaxed. Your
muscles are "turned off" during REM sleep. If
you become aware before the REM cycle has
finished, you may notice that you cannot move
or speak.
Who Develops Sleep Paralysis?

Up to as many as four out of every 10 people
may have sleep paralysis. This common
condition is often first noticed in the teen
years.
But men and women of any age can
have it. Sleep paralysis may run in families.
Other factors that may be linked to sleep
paralysis include:
Lack of sleep

Sleep schedule that changes

Mental conditions such as stress or bipolar
disorder

Sleeping on the back

Other sleep problems such as narcolepsy
or nighttime leg cramps

Use of certain medications , such as those
for ADHD

Substance abuse

How Is Sleep Paralysis Diagnosed?

If you find yourself unable to move or speak
for a few seconds or minutes when falling
asleep or waking up, then it is likely you have
isolated recurrent sleep paralysis.
Often there
is no need to treat this condition.

Check with your doctor if you have any of
these concerns:

You feel anxious about your symptoms

Your symptoms leave you very tired during
the day

Your symptoms keep you up during the
night

Your doctor may want to gather more
information about your sleep health by doing
any of the following:

Ask you to describe your symptoms and
keep a sleep diary for a few weeks

Discuss your health history, including any
known sleep disorders or any family history
of sleep disorders

Refer you to a sleep specialist for further
evaluation

Conduct overnight sleep studies or daytime
nap studies to make sure you do not have
another sleep disorder

How Is Sleep Paralysis Treated?

Most people need no treatment for sleep
paralysis.
Treating any underlying conditions
such as narcolepsy may help if you are
anxious or unable to sleep well.
These
treatments may include the following:

Improving sleep habits -- such as making
sure you get six to eight hours of sleep
each night

Using antidepressant medication if it is
prescribed to help regulate sleep cycles

Treating any mental health problems that
may contribute to sleep paralysis

Treating any other sleep disorders, such as
narcolepsy or leg cramps

What Can I Do About Sleep Paralysis?

There's no need to fear nighttime demons or
alien abductors. If you have occasional sleep
paralysis, you can take steps at home to
control this disorder.
Start by making sure you
get enough sleep .
Do what you can to relieve
stress in your life -- especially just before
bedtime .
Try new sleeping positions if you
sleep on your back.
And be sure to see your
doctor if sleep paralysis routinely prevents you
from getting a good night's sleep.

Education / University Students Strip Unclad To Protest In South Africa : pix and video by 2odd(m): 3:18pm On Oct 05, 2016
Some students of University of Witwatersrand in South Africa have stripped naked to protest their high tuition fee

Reports claim that the protesters went half-naked on Tuesday, exposing their boobs and the upper parts of their bodies just to make the university authorities have a rethink over the increased tuition fees. The students clashed violently with police over the incident with many woundedIn a report by Reuters, police fired stun grenades, rubber bullets and teargas at hundreds of students who marched through the university’s campus in Johannesburg, performing the “toyi-toyi” protest dance made popular during the struggle against oppressive white rule. About two people were arrested earlier when police moved in to enforce a court order on public gathering at the university.

“I am not sure free education is feasible. And I am worried about attacks on other students. It’s inflicting fear in other students. It’s not right,” said one final year law student, who was not taking part in the protest but did not want to give his name. A police woman told Reuters she had been hit in the leg with a stone thrown by the protesters.

This is not the first time the students have protested over the cost of university education. Just last year, the students clashed with university authorities forcing the government to freeze fee increases and set up a commission to look into the education funding system.

KingEbukasBlog:
UK scientists and clinicians working on a groundbreaking trial to test a possible cure for HIV infection say they have made remarkable progress after a test patient showed no sign of the virus following treatment.

The research, being carried out by five of Britain’s top universities with NHS support, is combining standard antiretroviral drugs with a drug that reactivates dormant HIV and a vaccine that induces the immune system to destroy the infected cells.

Antiretoviral drugs alone are highly effective at stopping the virus from reproducing but do not eradicate the disease, so must be taken for life.

Fifty patients are taking part in the trial and early tests on the first person to complete the treatment show no signs of the virus in his blood, the Sunday Times reported.

There is still a long way to go before the treatment can be deemed a success as the virus has previously re-emerged in people thought to have been “cured” and the use of antiretroviral drugs means the researchers cannot be sure the HIV has gone. Nevertheless there is optimism over the findings.

Mark Samuels, the managing director of the National Institute for Health Research Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure, told the Sunday Times: “This is one of the first serious attempts at a full cure for HIV. We are exploring the real possibility of curing HIV. This is a huge challenge and it’s still early days but the progress has been remarkable.”

HIV is able to hide itself from the immune system in dormant cells where highly sophisticated modern testing cannot find it and therefore resist therapy. The treatment endeavours to trick the virus into emerging from its hiding places and then trigger the body’s immune system to recognise it and attack it, an approach that has been called “kick and kill”.

There are approximately 37 million people living with HIV worldwide and about 35 million people have died from the virus.

The difficulty of declaring a patient clear of HIV was illustrated by the case of a girl in Mississippi, who was put on a strong course of antiretroviral drugs within 30 hours of her birth in 2010 after her mother was found to be HIV positive.

Treatment continued until the hospital lost contact with the mother 18 months later. When mother and child reappeared five months later the baby had no detectable virus in her blood, raising hopes that early intervention had cured her, but two years the virus had re-emerged.

The only person believed to have been cured was Timothy Ray Brown, an American treated in Germany. He needed a bone marrow transplant to replace his own cancerous cells with stem cells that would remake his immune system and his doctor found him a donor who was naturally resistant to HIV infection due to a genetic mutation that blocks HIV from entering the cells in the human body.

However, stem cell transplants are difficult and potentially dangerous for the recipient and only undertaken where they can save a life.

NairalandGod:

y

You are very ignorant. Wole Soyinka was/is more traditional than Achebe. Wole is a pure traditionalist. His patron god is Ogun. His first son bears Olaokun. One of his daughters bear Moremi. All his children bear deep traditional names.

Now, to his work. With books like Lion and the Jewel, A Dance of the Forest, Death and the King's Horseman and many other plays with deep Yoruba myths (including his translation of one of DO Fagunwa's books), I dare to say that Wole Soyinka is more traditional than Achebe. The fact that Soyinka's style is poetic and his command of English has no comparison in Africa (Something the Nobel committee attested to) does not mean he writes to soothe the white man. In Lion and the Jewel, Wole Soyinka made Tradition to triumph over Westernization. A Dance of the Forest and Death and the King's Horseman have the underlying theme of the Yoruba royalty practise of burying a king with a subject. Most of Soyinka's works are either composed around deep Yoruba myths or are political satires. King Babu, for instance, was written to spite Sani Abacha. A Play of Giants was used to spite Idi Amin Dada of Uganda. The Jero's Play was an attack on religious conmen/fraudsters. It was also an attack on our military men who left the barracks and became desk generals. Most of Soyinka's other works are deeply philosophical. Talk of the Road and Madmen and Specialists. It is wrong for anyone who doesn't know a thing about Soyinka's unique literature to say trash about him. This is not about ethnicity but craft.

You said Achebe rubbished the white man bla bla bla. In and with what book did he do that? And you said Soyinka writes to soothe the white man. Please, cite a title by Soyinka where he soothed the white man. I have read most of Soyinka's plays. The man has no comparisons in African Literature. Achebe's simplicity or the success of his Things Fall Apart does not make him greater than Soyinka.

As for the Nobel Prize, it is not a yardstick foyr measuring the greatness of a writer but I do not like that people rubbish this award because Achebe never won it. It is very simple, Achebe never won it because he never deserved it. Writing simple novels or being a good storyteller isn't enough. You have to be consistent. After Arrow of God (Which I think is even greater than Things Fall Apart), Achebe became empty. His last novel was published in 1988 and Achebe never wrote another. Look at the case of Alice Munro. She won it at her old age. She kept on publishing major quality works. The Nobel Prize is not an award for a single book. Although Hemingway won it majorly for his The Old man and the Sea, he had written great novels along the line. Even if Achebe were still to be alive, he would never be as eligible as the Distinguished professor Ngugi Wa Thiong'O.

Reasons why you shouldnt compare wole to achebe:
1. Wole is more of a poet than a novelist whereas achebe is strictly a novelist
2. Wole wrote to soothe the white man while achebe was keen on upholding his cultural heritage and wittingly rubbishing the white man's ways.
3. Wole was awarded a prestigious momentary award but achebe....the name achebe is already on its way to the minds of generations unborn.

u don make sense for ur mind abi??. Awards remain in mind n in records forever.

Who knows Wole Soyinka outside of Nigeria? Yorubas...every thing is not about dicck contest with Igbos. Chinua Achebe is the most celebrated African author. Do you know billions of people who are dying to read his books, and thousands of secondary schools and universities universities who have his books their curriculum since 80s. Things Fall Apart is the greatest literary feat of the last and current century.
