Install "android-tools" package (adb and fastboot) in Ubuntu 12.04, 11.10 or 11.04


android-tools is available in the official Ubuntu 12.10 repositories so all you have to do is search for it in Ubuntu Software Center and click the install button.

For Ubuntu 12.04, 11.10 and 11.04, you can install android-tools using the main WebUpd8 PPA:

A package called "android-tools", which comes with "adb" and "fastboot" command line utilities, has been uploaded to the Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal repositories recently. I've got a request to upload this package in a PPA for older Ubuntu releases, so I've backported it to Ubuntu 12.04, 11.10 and 11.04.

"adb" (Android Debug Bridge) is a command line tool you can use to access the file system from an Android device; it can be used to send commands, transfer or receive files, install or uninstall applications and more.

"fastboot" is a command line tools that you can use to flash the filesystem on Android devices over USB.

These tools can be found in the Android SDK too; using the official package in Ubuntu 12.10 or the packages in our PPA is just an alternative and easier way I'd say, to install them in Ubuntu. Also, the packages in the PPA are available for both 32bit and 64bit, while the Android SDK provided by Google is only available for 32bit.

Tried updating the facebook app and it downloaded just 2.3mb before updating.

1) Data consumption extremely HIGH; 15MB lasts 24hrs max.
2) Fully charged battery doesn't last beyond 18hrs, which I suppose is due to data consumption.
3) Closely related to that, up to 12 apps run in the background; WhatsApp I understand but the rest are absolutely out of my control amd it's turning me nuts.
4) Totally disappointing Task Manager. Every time I try to return to whichever browser it will reload all the pages I was on, and if I minimise the browser long enough, say 20mins, God help me.
5) Internal memory is another BIG disappointment, it's simply impossible to install a few additional apps to those shipped with the phone.
6) Talking of disappointments, the camera is the train.

hispy99: Is it all about specs? Yes, any HP that costs the same as a MAC will absolutely murder a Mac in terms of specs, but what about reliability? I have used an HP(approx $1,600), DELL (company provided) and Toshiba (approx $1,600). I had actually sworn never to buy an HP after seeing the HP of a friend crash after about a month of use in 2002! However, the tech person at my place of work convinced me to buy one in 2006 as HP had improved. What happened? My HP fell apart after 3 months; the letters on the key board first started falling off, next it was the speakers that went out, then the screen began to separate from the main body (my wife bought a similar HP and the same thing happened to her own, apart from the letters falling off her keyboard). Then after about 18 months, the HP crashed (My wife's crashed after 2 years).

My Toshiba held up better than the HP; after about 6 months I noticed a green line that split my screen into 2. I got it fixed and then it was the battery. I changed it and then after 2 years, it began showing symptoms it was going to crash, which it did after another 3 months.

My DELL? Don't even get me started, I used it for 3 months and parked it under my office table. I haven't touched it since then.

I finally convinced myself to buy a a MacPro ($2,300) almost 3 years ago and guess what? I have not had ONE single problem. Not One. My wife got hers 2 years ago and guess what again? Not ONE single issue (apart from her machine being slow at some point, which was due to the fact that she was not updating her OS patches. Once we updated her Mac's OS, it worked just fine).

Needless to say, I am never going back to a HP or Toshiba. I would rather pay $2300 and use my laptop without issues for 3-4 years, than buy a HP for $1600 and change it every 18 months. The apple OS is also a lot stable than Windows. Does my Mac freeze sometimes? YES, but very infrequently. I can't remember the last time I had to reboot my Mac because it was not responding. I can't say that for any windows machine.

Wenger has stood by Theo for several years, saying that he will come good. When the boy finally has a decent season, he is asking for a raise almost doubling what he was initially on.

Arsene has utilized Theo in an efficient way, otherwise he would be in the same bracket as aaron lennon (lord know aaron lennon is not on 100k)

If any club wants him then I wish him well. What matters though, is Arsenal replacing Theo. If a player cannot come to terms then sell them, but bring in someone who will be more consistent.

you may have your reservations as to how it is shared in the squad (lord know i do), but you cannot fault the idea of making it generally even across the squad for reasons which include promoting equality and equity.

now, if carzola has quality strikers ahead of him like hazard does, the output(goals + assists) stats would read differently! that is the problem ibime has failed to see. carzola made 84 key passes last season in la liga. in a team like barcelona/madrid, at least 25% of those key passes would assist a goal and your theory about his low output wouldn't even be a topic of discussion!
