SportsRe: Nani's Showboating: Great Or Unnecessary? by 4Play(m): 11:58am On Feb 19, 2008
@Loyika

Maybe its because such skills exhibition is frowned upon in England that England hardly produces technically gifted players .

You alluded to the Fair Play rule,is "showboating" against fair play? So playing "keepy-uppy" is now on the same level as ignoring and taking advantage of the injury of opposition players.

Presumably,Gallas' kicking of Nani is on the same level of unacceptability as Nani showboating. With such reasoning by Arses,no wonder they are all generally regarded as knuckleheads.

We have gone from:
Now you've shown your stupidity and ignorance.Zarqawi's Jama'at al-Tawhid or any other terror cell/group/whatever were NEVER in Iraq before the war began and there was no link between Saddam and Al-qaeda .The only group in the country was the Fedayeen and they were a paramilitary group.Next time, get your facts straight.
To this line:
The terrorists who entered Iraq, were either in regions outside Saddam's control or were there on their own accord, and not on the behest of Saddam.
To which the befuddled numpty,ocelot2006, gives thanks and praises for the rescue attempt to dig him out of his hole.

The whole 'rescue attempt' rest on the question of whether you think "The terrorists who entered Iraq, were either in regions outside Saddam's control or were there on their own accord, and not on the behest of Saddam."This categorical statement of 'fact' has one gaping hole. . . . . .it exists in the figment of the guff merchant's imagination.

For instance, all of a sudden we are led to believe that Jama'at al-Tawhid's founder Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's activities in the Sunni Triangle and Baghdad occurred outside Saddam's control or that Abu Nidal and Abdul Rahman Yasin's stay at the behest of Saddam in Baghdad for over a decade were not really at the behest of Saddam, unless we are also saying Baghdad wasn't under the control of Saddam-lets bear this in mind the next time some numpty claims that Iraq descended into chaos only after the invasion.

Your amorphous view of al-qaeda is silly. Under such a view, the 9-11 attack was carried out by all Is.lamic extremists in collusion.
You know what is funny.I believe this is the same knucklehead who expressed the wish to study law at an Ivy League institution, with this kind of reasoning, such ambitions will remain only a dream.

Amorphous is something that is shapeless
,formless;lacking organisation. The term,al-qaeda,often no longer describes a vertically organised hierarchical organisation a la the IRA or ETA but is instead applied to a panoply of Islamists militant organisations broadly sharing the same goals and ideologies as OBL's original set-up.

Unless you are a knucklehead, there is no way amorphous or my previous post entails that all Islamist militant groups carried out 9/11 in collusion.Surely, the analogy drawn with the US declaration of war on Germany post Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor should have made things clear.

This 4 Play sounds like one other terrible neocon called I-man. Abajo!
With this appalling grasp of terminology, for instance neo-con,how am I supposed to take you seriously?

George W Bush killed my cousins in Iraq, and I'll do all that I can, as long as I live to remind people of how el Diablo aka George W Bush, takes pride in the killing of fellow humans.
This wretched attempt at making a point, what some know as an argumentum ad misericordiam, doesn't wash.Have you not heard of my Iraqi in-laws whose Shia relatives were slaughtered by Saddam? With polls showing a plurality of Iraqis stating that the removal of Saddam was worth it,anybody who knows many Iraqi Kurds or Shia, friends or family, won't be surprised.

I'm sorry, i guess i was wrong,Mr knowitall? So please, list out all the terror cells based in iraq before the 2nd gulf war.If you can't, STFU!
What an ignoramus, what do you know a "terror cell" means?

Talking of terror organisations,I mentioned some in my second post.Zarqawi's Jama'at al-Tawhid(later to be known as alqaeda in Iraq) and Ansar Al-I'slam were to 2 of the biggest groups operating in Iraq before the invasion. The latter was famous for bombing the UN building while the former needs no introduction.

These were by no means the only 2.

Even terrorists like Abdul Rahman Yasin who conducted the 1st WTC bombing in New York in 1993,in collaboration with alqaeda heavyweights like Khalid Sheik Mohhamed were living comfortably under the shelter of Saddam and someone is claiming there were no terrorists

Don't make dishonest claims that you picked up from lefties with an axe to grind.Learn to acquire the facts before making a fool of yourself.

ocelot2006:
If you mean the Fedayeen, then you're wrong. It were basically a paramilitary group made up of volunteers from other Arab coutries and it was formed just before the war started.
Given that Fedayeen Saddam was formed in 1995,a full 8 years before the invasion, the above further exposes your ignorance.

i agree with you that Iraq's a breeding ground for terrorist. But the country never had any before the invasion.

there were militants operating in iraq before the invasion. they just weren't members of al qaeda.
AlQaeda is an amorphous organisation and the term, alqaeda,is ultimately meaningless when it comes to identifying Islamist terror organisations. Is Ansar Al-I'slam,a group operating freely in Northern Iraq, part of the al-Qaeda 'franchise' or an entirely independent organisation? What about Zarqawi, who lived and starting operating from Iraq before the invasion?

Ultimately does it matter if an Islamist terror group is alqaeda or not so long as they are bent on global jihad and sworn to cause harm on the US?Iraq was certainly teeming with terror organisations, some operating with the acquiescence if not the full support of the Saddam regime, long before the invasion.

You may say that since 9/11 was carried out by what is known as alqaeda the US should only be concerned about alqaeda.Kind of like saying that since the attack on Pearl Harbor was carried out by Japan, the US should never have joined the war effort against Nazi Germany.

I do think that many of those Islamist groups are all part of the same problem and the US was fully within its rights to wage war not only on al-Qaeda per se but also all other like groups and the Govts that give them shelter and succor

Unless you can show me evidence to say otherwise, then my stand remains. This is not rocket science my brother, this is simple logic. If Countries A and B each have currencies that undergoes the same wear and tear daily but Country A's currency seem to need replacement more often than Country B's currency does, I would think the first place we would need to look is the quality of country A's currency to find out what the heck is going on. LMAO!!!!
This is where we both differ,I don't believe our currency undergoes the same wear and tear as other countries.I believe we have a unique cultural habit of "roughhandling" the Naira notes. Now,not having any empirical study done on the issue available,we can argue whether this premise is true till infinity but that is my basic belief albeit supported by anecdotal evidence.

I guess its the consequence of having only left Nigeria just recently while you have been living abroad since time immemorial tongue
PoliticsRe: Nigerians To Pay More For Electricity by 4Play(m): 7:29pm On Feb 18, 2008
The problem is one of those catch-22 situations. You can't increase prices with the appalling power supply situation but you can't solve the power problems without increasing prices.

The way to go is through deregulation and privatisation, however, the private sector will only invest if they are assured of a return on their investment thus the argument for increasing prices.

On the other hand, asking Nigerians to pay more for electricity at the moment sounds like "overkill."

The solution? This goes against my fundamental principles but I would recommend subsidies, political pragmatism sometimes outweighs economic logic.Lets have a temporary window within which the Govt guarantees to meet the market costs for residential consumers until significant improvements have been made to the power supply situation following which the consumer is gradually made to bear the full costs.

I remember those days,if you dared question the business prospects of Transorps, you were met with a flurry of insults by Nairalanders. They were quick to reel out names of business heavyweights who had invested in Transcorps, asking if you knew better than them, never mind that those heavyweights made their money in the private offer.

Transcorps biggest 'assets' were its links to the then Govt, this made it vulnerable to the political climate of the country

@kobo

What has the wikipedia link and your econs textbook got to do with trampling on currency notes? grin

You seem to attribute the problem to the quality of notes used by Nigeria.Unless you can produce any evidence showing that the quality of notes used by Nigeria down the years is uniquely poor, spending ever more money on producing higher quality notes will be a hare-brained response-a classic case of treating the symptoms of an ailment instead of its root cause.

If Nigerians treated the dollar, sterling or Euros(which they won't anyway) the way they treated their Naira, the same problems will arise with those currencies leading to higher costs for the Govt. What is needed is a change in behavior by Nigerians not pumping more money to improve the quantity and quality of our notes
BusinessRe: "You Can't Ban Spraying, It's Our Culture" - KSA To Soludo by 4Play(m): 6:52pm On Feb 18, 2008
Currency notes were not meant to be trampled on.Why should we ask the Govt to produce "trample-proof" currency notes when the real issue is,unlike in developed nations,we simply have a penchant for rough handling our Naira notes

Staying on the same theme:

An elder of a church from Ugbonla, in the coastal area of Ondo State , Apostle Henry Ogunfeyimi, has been arrested by the Interpol over a N30m scandal and is currently detained at the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Area 10, Abuja. When Sunday Tribune visited the FCID, Abuja, where he was being detained on Saturday, it was not allowed to speak with the suspect.

But a senior police officer, who was on duty, said that the suspect, who was wearing a T– shirt over a pair of brown trousers, would not be allowed to speak with any journalist. The DIG in charge of the FCID, Mr. Dudari Kieran, confirmed the arrest, and stated that the suspect was arrested based on the findings of the Interpol and that he was still undergoing interrogation.

Seriously, that school was a war zone.Almost everyday, you will be hearing gunshots.Occasionally, they will run into UNN(neighboring school) with their wahala.Between Jan and April 04 alone, there were 7 cult killings.Any ESUT student will confirm that 50 deaths in 6 years pales in comparison.

Add this up to what goes on in other Universities, you will see that there is greater danger in Nigerian Universities.

The ESUT stands for Enugu State University of Technology grin

The only shooting incident was done by the police outsde the gate and it was during a demonstration. Maybe during your time, cultists were on rampage but even 50 deaths in 6years does not compare to what goes on in America.

BTW, I am ready to contest your 50 deaths accounts going by some of the things you have written on this forum.
My friend, its obvious you have been outside the country far too long.50 deaths in 6 years is even small when you think of the death toll in some schools like ESUT.

I don't believe the Govt makes money selling generators.I do believe that their resistance to root-and-branch reforms is on the basis of the entrenched profiteering interests that come with keeping major public utilities in the hands of the Govt.

Where you have govt run utilities, you have big budgets and big contracts. They don't want to give this up by letting the private sector take over.

Because 90% of people who went to public unis in Nigeria can tell you tales of people getting shot in exam halls, in front of school gates, bukateria and even in Church, all in the name of cult war.

I spent 6 years in a Nigerian university (thanks to Strike and Obasanjo) and i KNOW the death toll from all the cult-related clashes would definitely exceed 50.
Hell, even lecturers weren't spared the killing either.
Once people stay for long abroad, they lose their sense of perspective. If you compare deaths per capita in both countries universities system, you will see a clear difference.
