doyin13:Presuming Keynes said that,I like the way you are trying to "massage" his words. You will make a good politician. ![]() Saying that a place felt "terribly religious" is not the same as asserting that its inhabitants are religious. Now,any person with a modicum of knowledge about post-Tsar Russia will laugh at the idea that the Soviets were religious. To the extent that atheism is the absence of belief in any supernatural existence, these people were atheists. It is the favorite tactic of atheists to deny their "brethrens". . . . . . . .always seeking to attribute Communists like Stalin some manner of religious affiliation but this is laughable. |
doyin13:The above is purely ahistorical. While there have been occasions where Christians did persecute "non-believers",the 20th century is littered with examples of atheists oppressing believers-N.Korea,Soviet Union,China,Vietnam,The Old Eastern Bloc,Cuba,e.t.c You might say there are far more examples of Christian persecution of non-believers than vice-versa but bear in mind that Christians have always out-numbered atheists by a large degree so there has been very little opportunity for atheists to take their turn at being the oppressor. However, what little opportunity atheists have had, they have taken it with gusto. I dare say,if Christianity persecuted atheists in the manner atheists have, when given the opportunity, have persecuted Christians, the atheist movement will be largely annihilated. |
@toshmann You are talking tosh London is safe, unless you are a dumb teenager in one of those gangs. . . . . . .why do people care about those kids anyway? I heard there is a part of Manchester where life expectancy for males is 21 The worst place in the UK though is Belfast, great property market but even greater crime @Doyin13 This one you dey talk S.London gals, are you talking of marriageable quality(in relation to this topic) or what my friend once called "all those small small girls wey I dey phock?" |
No mind Chacal. . . . .im don relocate his residence to was it NWest? ![]() You need a vest(stab proof vests are the best selling items in that area)to walk round his area.Greater London's Compton! Seriously though, anybody who ever lived in Nigeria can't consider any part of the UK as dangerous .This place is uber-safe. |
Underneath Hotfunmi's hyperbole about men's supposed monopoly of criminality, there is some truth-The overwhelming majority of crimes are committed by men. However, funmi's misandry seems to always lead her to categorical extremes about male conduct. |
ndubest:I beg to differ, people are effectively born atheists until they are told about God or what other form of deity those in their immediate surroundings are familiar with. At the heart of the issue is whether you can induce belief in God by "force".The 13 year old attending church weekly is meaningless if she doesn't believe in God. Thus apart from whether its desirable to compel church attendance, the efficacy of such compulsion is highly questionable.Being a Christian is not a question of regular church attendance, its about a firm belief in certain Christian doctrines. |
Kobojunkie:Lets arguendo concede that the Buhari/Idiagbon regime "accomplished" things in a short time, isn't it troubling that your best model is a military dictatorship? Democracies, with all their imperfections, inherently move more slowly than dictatorships. There is no way we can achieve lightning-quick changes unless we adopt a more dictatorial regime. doyin13:I would say China, post-Deng's reforms, has seen rapid development. However,Japan did experience even more rapid changes but this could not have happened without US occupation. Although, each country has its unique features-different histories, cultures and ethnic/racial make up-the lesson we can draw from the Asian Tigers -Singapore,Taiwan,Malaysia,S.Korea,Indonesia,Thailand-is that such rapid development often best work in dictatorships;the contrasts between India and China has intrigued scholars for ages. Unless we want a "strongman" to take over the country, the progress we wish for can only be attained gradually. There are so many "vested interests" that ensure that certain unwholesome practices will continue to be indulged in.I have always said that if the President experienced a divine apparition that inspires him to rule with the greatest sense of altruism,he won't last in power.Pragmatism demands changes must be gradual, moving too quickly can be self-defeating. |

Igbos are the descendants of Tuface Idibia's innumerable offsprings! |
The shocking thing is that 28 people have voted "Yes" to forcing the child to go to church. ![]() |
If you ever wondered which one of the innumerable pressing issues our legislators are busying themselves with, look no further. With electricity and water supply running 24 hours in Nigeria, crime reduced to zero and the Niger-Delta an oasis of peace;our great men and women of the National Assembly have turned to that issue of paramount importance-"indecent dressing" But by far, the bigger drama over dress code is represented by the debate of a bill now before the National Assembly titled: "an Act to Prohibit and Punish Public Nudity, Sexual Intimidation and Related Offences". The Bill has passed through the Second Reading stage at the Senate. It is sponsored by Senator Eme Ekaette from Akwa Ibom state, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women and Youth Affairs. She says indecent dressing promotes "vices in the society, we are seeing a lot of moral decadence in the society today." She says her bill will help "to preserve cultural norms and values". .Hear her: "If you want to wear something, I believe that there are certain parts of the body that must be covered. You cannot go naked in the name of fashion."http://odili.net/news/source/2008/feb/8/31.html Sad thing is. . . . . . .we can't even blame the Mu.slims for this one Even that therapeutic blame game has been denied us by this Ekaette of a woman and her co-conspirators. ![]() |
Hungary has threatened to jail a Nigerian, Oludayo Olapite for praising Adolph Hitler and Sz.lasi in a music he released recently in the country. Both men killed many people during the Second World War inGermany and Hungary respectively. This was his excuse: He claimed that he was ordered to shout every statement he made during the interview. "I was very frightened because I thought I might never see my girl friend again,"said Olapite whose funny bait often entraps his Hungarian fans. He continued: "They gave me a 10-page-script about Gypsy, Hitler, Jews, blacks and the socialists in which I hardly understood because I was frightened.”Everyone is denying him,,it seems his employees are just as bigoted: The producer of the Bombagy·r channel, TomCat, claimed Fekete knew exactly what he was saying. "Of course we explained who Hitler and Sz·lasi were but for P·ko itwas unnecessary for him to probe further. Oh, he is not a stupid ni****. I mean Nigerian". The Bombagy·rTV is often the focus of the media because of its racial and hatred contents. However, Africans in Hungary especially Nigerians have dismissed Olapite's under duress excuse as implausible and annoying.http://odili.net/news/source/2008/feb/11/217.html |

Their commonality lies in the fact that they both based their campaigns, not on the issues, but using a mixture of personality and empty campaign slogans. Remember Bush's main pitch?"I am an outsider in Washington,in contrast to Gore, who is going change the way politics is run.He was the candidate of change.Bush's 2000 campaign and Obama's 2008 campaign run on the same ethos. They have seen 8yrs of Clinton . . . but for sympathy votes (female votes), the fact that Obama is not white and fondness for the other Clinton . . . Obama would long have wrapped up this nomination.Sympathy?Obama isn't getting sympathy votes from Blacks, men and those with "white-guilt" mindset? Lets stop this nonsense about Obama being handicapped by his blackness-polls show Americans are less prepared to see a woman President than a Black president-which other white man will run for President as a freshman Senator? Not even Clinton, with all her name recognition, attempted such |
4Him:You got it way wrong. In 2000,Bush was the "Obama" candidate.Al Gore(nicknamed Al Bore because of his detailed command of data)was the candidate who wanted the debate to be about issues. They used to mock him then. Bush got elected on the basis,as one pundit put it,that most American would rather have him on their TV screens every evening than Al Gore. His campaign was, like Obama's,generally devoid of detail though not to the same extent as Obama. Herein lies the irony, having elected a man whose positions they could barely tell and who is now proving unpopular, they want to do the exact same thing with Barack! |
4Him:Have you heard of Obama's healthcare plan? He doesn't have any. . . . .he has set out objectives but promises to flesh out the details later. Hillary is a reputable policy wonk. She has demonstrated this in her work with the Senate(Obama's absentee record is legendary) and her far more detailed policy positions on pretty much ever major issue-the economy, healthcare, environment, trade policy-compared to Obama's risible proposals. Hillary challenged Obama to weekly debates in order to exploit his poor command of issues(Obama always looks less impressive in debates),what is Barack afraid of? |
I support McCain's positions on domestic issues-abortion,gay marraiges, conservative judges, tax and the economy generally. This is my problem with Obama and other liberals.I can never support people whose positions on many domestic issues are amoral and inane. Hillary has shown greater command of the issues-why is Obama shying awau from her challenge for more debates?-unlike Obama whose best moments come while reading off auto cues. A freshman senator should be taking care of his constituency's issues, not running for President within months of election as a Senator. He is running on the most liberal platform of any candidate in the race. @away4real If you can't debate and defend Obama's policy positions, spare us your pap |
4Him:Obama doesn't flipflop? He was going to militarily intervene in Pakistan at one point,he was also against the Patriot Act before he voted for it. All McCain said about Iraq was that American troops might stay there just as is the case with Germany,S.Korea,Japan,e.t.c What are Obama's policy positions on many major issues and how does he intend to achieve them? His campaign is the most vacuous of the whole lot. |
4Him:He is a man who knows how to get the job done, unlike Barack with his ugly wife. McCain beats Barack by all measures, even by the quality of his bedroom consort. A brave American patriot. There is no stopping him |
Coco fine pass Michelle by far na Look at Richy dey talk sef Fine for where? Dumbo ears, weird complexion, odd facial features. Nah, not my type but hey he's a decent person so whatever.Even McCain looks better than Barack. |
The GOP is winning this election so go and lock up all those ugly people who want to run America.John "Methusela" McCain is going to be the next President, his wife even looks better. away4real:My point is that you talk too much drivel morenike09:she is already "made over",imagine how she looks in regular everyday life. |
I recall 4play/Iman was here gloryfying Rudy Giuliani and Romney talking about educational achievements, where are they now. Same I-man called Obama a master of vacuities, that his campaign lacks substance. He knows more than the bulk of college graduates and youths backing obama. Looking at the support base of the 2 candidates u can tell who the better candidate is.Lets try and make sense of all this driveling commentary. What has Obama's primaries success to do with his relative capability in comparison with Romney?Talking about succesful politicians, does Bush's electoral success mean he is more capable than John Kerry? Bush won more college grads than Steve Forbes, what does that tell us? Cherie Blair is more able than her husband yet she was an electoral disaster.David Baddiel once said that of all his Oxford schoolmates,it was usually the most mediocre who went into politics and were succesful. |
