PoliticsRe: Our Girls Are Not Interested In Politics? by 4Play(m): 11:57am On Mar 27, 2007
My favorite politician in the UK is Margaret Thatcher,I joined the Conservative party because of her so I have no problems with females participating in politics.

The question is not whether women should participate but why they don't.

That some of the comments are offensive should not dissuade women .The great women in society did not wither in the face of aggression, they stood up to it and prospered.

Razorr:
4Play, let me tell you why women seem uninterested in politics. It's because people like you are always surprised when women express interest in it or even in things like sports.
Yes,pleasantly surprised. The feeling of surprise in this regard is not essentialy wrong.

Razorr:
I would give you an example. I remember a time when you had a bust up with me and Mukina in the sports section after you told her to go to the kitchen(or something like that) when she made a post.
I made the comment to Muki on the basis that she is an Arsenal fan.Compared to the things I have told the male Arsenal fans,it is risible to take offence.Compared to what she has said to me over the past 10 months, which I ignored till then, she had no basis for complaint.

You can't be   making pejorative remarks for months and start complaining when  when you are given a taste of your own medicine claiming you are a "lady"?You should be prepared to receive as much you give in the politics and sports sections.

These sections tend to be characterised by passionate debates  and little allowances are made for ladies 'feelings'.In the words of the immortal Tony Hancock when asked to give up his seat for a woman-"Don't try that with me, Madam. You lot wanted equality: Well, you've got it. Now stand there and enjoy it." grin

Judging from the last 200,000 posts on Nairaland, there are only 2 females among the top 50 posters on the 'Politics' section: Omo Eko, LadyT, and Razorr! And they have all posted on this thread!
That is even less than the 5% figure I mentioned .

It is clear and undisputable that women,in general, are uninterested in politics. The reasons for this are unclear but such disinterest has great significance on gender equality or the lack of one
PoliticsRe: Our Girls Are Not Interested In Politics? by 4Play(m): 10:21am On Mar 27, 2007
From a wider perspective,if women continue to show disinterest in politics generally,it simply perpetuates male domination in society.

Razorr:
Great! So we can say that for every 2 nairaland boys, there is a nairaland girl. So why do you guys expect so much from us.
At a 2 to 1 ratio, that means that means that at least 33%(1/3) of Nairalanders are female. It is fair to say that on the politics section, contributions by females are not more than 5%.Females are grossly underepresented in the politics section
PoliticsRe: Our Girls Are Not Interested In Politics? by 4Play(m): 9:24am On Mar 27, 2007
If someone is barely interested in a subject, they are unlikely to make any meaningful contribution in debates on that subject.Women are rarely interested in politics and would not make any meaningful contributions to the politics section.

We are already plagued in the politics section by a deluge of inanity. We need to be spared of even more inanity

PoliticsRe: Iran Has Caputured Fifteen British Navy At Gunpoint by 4Play(m): 3:17pm On Mar 26, 2007
Afam:
@4Play,

And you, why do you believe the British version of the story? What makes you think the Iranians are not saying the truth? Is it still part of the sentiments or bias?
It is common sense that he who makes an allegation bears the burden of proof to prove that allegation. The Iranians acted, alleging that the Brits strayed into their territory but have yet to produce proof of this.Unless of course, you regard the claims that the British captives had "confessed" as proof.

When for instance, the Americans pick up Iranians in Iraq,it is for them to prove that such Iranians were involved in insurgent activities and not for the Iranians to prove the contrary.

I would hate to think that if Camerounian forces were to pick up Nigerian soldiers from the Bakassi Peninsula alleging that they had strayed over the border, you would be asking for proof from Nigeria that they did not stray over the border.Nor would you accept Camerounian claims, that the Nigerian soldiers have now confessed.

NB:1week ago,an Iranian official told the Times of London that they intend to seize "a nice bunch of blue-eyed blond- officers and feed them to our fignting cocks"-http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article1530527.ece

-CRISTIANO RONALDO and Manchester United have been told they are No 1 — by bitter rivals Arsenal.

Gunners defender Gael Clichy handed them the Premiership title and admitted the best player he has faced is the United superstar.

French full-back Clichy, 21, said: “Collectively, United are very strong and they have players that can individually make the difference like Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He is the best player I’ve ever played against. He is quick, skilful and clever.
