PoliticsRe: Western Business Interests In Africa by 4Play(m): 8:09pm On Jan 23, 2007
The posts on this thread illustrate one thing,we as Africans love to engage in an orgy of self pity.We are at our best
chronicling instances of exploitation by our favorite villain, the West. This makes us lighten the sense of failure we feel when we look around our undeveloped continent.

The impression is given that if not for the West,we would have attained economic development, that does not explain how come there was little such development hundreds of years ago when sub-Saharan Africa had little or no contact with the Western world.

I left Nigeria a few months ago,if u take something as little how your University's Student Union is run, with members seeking solely to enrich themselves, the local politicians who have no discernible acheivement to refer to,u will realise that our problems are far deeper than just chronicling instances of exploitation by Western bizs from leftist newspapers like the Guardian.

I wonder how we propose to acheive economic development without Western help,a lot is said about the South East Asian Tigers like Singapore,Taiwan,South Korea e.t.c,little is mentioned of the fact that these were all staunch Western allies .Even China remained a backward country until the economic reforms inspired Deng Xiaoping allowed greater foreign investment.A lot of the growth in China today is driven by investments by Western bizs, who use China as an export mecca bocos of its cheap and abundant labor (the same Western Bizs we villify).

Yes businesses are self interested, but at the end of the day we cannot acheive anything without them

i think the insurance sector has great growth potential especially in the light of the consolidation exercise which mirrors that of the banking sector.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by 4Play(m): 12:44pm On Jan 22, 2007
Arsenal 3 Man Utd 0-That was the result in the 1998/99 season when Man Utd won the treble.Who remembers that now?

At the end of the day this season is going to remembered for one thing-MAN UTD were crowned champions

As for Arsenal this going to be their highlight for the for the season.
BusinessRe: How Can I Open A Zenith Bank Account From Abroad? by 4Play(m): 12:40pm On Jan 22, 2007
If am not mistaken the bank consolidation was concluded in 2005,less than 2 years ago,and you guys are already saying that banks have not failed since. How many banks did u expect to fail within that brief period

Banks fail all over the world including the UK and Nigeria would be no exception. The only difference is that when they fail in Nigeria depositors are not guaranteed their money back

If you think that some of the rosy financial pics being painted by banks is actually accurate then maybe u have been outside Nigeria for too long.A lot of the banks depend on money laundering and this makes some of them even more vulnerable.

Always bear in mind that the financial results announced in Nigerian coys are not always what they are cracked up to be.The capital maintenance rules are poorly implemented as well.
EducationRe: Universities In The UK by 4Play(m): 1:17am On Jan 22, 2007
@Daviddj

Ehm ,both North London University and London Guildhall Universities were both former Polytechnics providing vocational education.London Met was formed in 2002 out of a merger of these 2 former polytechnics

If you think London Met is a good University ,then kudos to you.

Apparently even the authors of the Times University Guide think lowly of the school, but hey they too probably need divine intervention

u say London Met is good partly because u say it is the largest uni in London,I guess that makes Allama Iqbal University in Pakistan a good University since it is one of the largest in the world

Only Nigerians in particular and Africans in general will think of London Met as a good university.

I will tell u one good thing about the Uni though,it is easy to get admission into it and i feel at home whenever I go there .U have to be hare brained for them to deny u admission

Hey guys, why we don't we just marry the Nigerian girls living in the West in the first place

But if u want to marry a Naija girl living in Nigeria, remember what Kanye West said "we want pre-nup"

Get a cast iron pre-nup
