There was an interesting story in This Day newspapers about the alleged involvement of OBJ in blocking the proposed nomination of the former Finance Minister,Okonjo Iweala, to the position of United Nations Deputy Secretary General This,if true, means that the President of Nigeria acted to deny a Nigerian the second highest office in the UN hierachy I do not accept the accuracy of the story, but if true it is truly saddening Here is the link-http://odili.net/news/source/2007/jan/19/202.html |
There are thousands of polling stations in Nigeria.Any violence will simply occur in those stations where foreign monitors don't show up |
@egoldman There is one compelling reason why a person living abroad should not bank in Nigeria unless where necessity demands Inflation. Inflation in Nigeria is in double digits, hence even taking into consideration the bank's interest rates,it means that every year the real value of your money is depreciating 1 million naira this last year could be 900,000 this year and and in 5 years u could lose half the value of your money without knowing it.Technically ,u still have 1 million naira, but it can buy less NB:The last consolidation exercise meant that a lot of Nigerians lost their money in the bank.Didn't the footballer,Jay Jay Okocha lose about £4 million (1 billion naira) in some Nigerian banks. |
The faster the growth in GDP,the faster the growth in per capita income |
Does the UN or the US need to send election monitors to confirm that elections in Nigeria are rigged They already know when election are rigged Whether monitoring is done through formal or informal procedures is irelevant Election monitors do not have to be physically present I suspect that like in the last elections, when faced with evidence of manipulation, the international community will prefer not to rock the boat and approve of the results while acknowledging that there were irregularities |
There are foreign monitors in US national elections If OBJ does not invite US officials to monitor the elections they won't come I don't really see what the argument is about |
It is a known fact that gay people tend to support Arsenal |
U will be the person to cry,we have pyschiatrists on stand-by for Arseanal fans mukina2:U are so nervous u can't even count the days, |
u should be nervous, cos we are going to crush u like an ant |
Are u saying there is no place like Zamunda? |
Capello is only trying to divert attention from Real MADRID failings.I am a big admirer of Capello but I think he got this one wrong. Prohibiting Beckham from playing is even unlawful under Spanish law He will backtrack and play Beckham eventually |
Stastically educated women on average have fewer kids.Same applies btw Southerners and Northerners |
I am not a Nigerian myself despite the fact that my name is Emeka It is actually an Armenian name,so OgaMADAM from Zamunda might still not be a Nigerian despite using Nigerian names She might actually be from Zamunda |
I had prophetic vision last nite that revealed to me that all Chelsea fans will contact STDs this year All Chelski fans are hookers. They only love Chelsea because of the money 3 years ago,it was hard to find one Nigerian who was a Chelski fan Now this motley collection of prostitutes are all calling themselves Chelski fans |
These people had years to prepare for elections. Its not like the elections came suddenly and they had no time to prepare |
The Hausa/Fulani have far higher population growth rate than Southerners A Southern woman marrys late, after going through studies, while the Hausa/Fulani girls marry as early as 15 and have enough time to breed children As time passes, the population gap will grow The sad thing is that it means that the North continues to serve more as a drag on the nation, contributing nothing to the economy. |
McKren:You really think that is a plausible option for Nigeria? I have not heard it said anywhere that the US has agreed to intervene in Nigeria's electoral process on Atiku's behalf so I don't know why there is so much anti-American hyperventillation |
How does a deal to sell radar facilities to Tanzania amount to an example of Western biz exploiting Africa?Tanzania has barely adequate radar facilities and they needed it to be able to improve their air safety record. Radar is not a weapon. The underlying problem with the deal was the inflation of contract by the Tanzanian Govt in other to facilitate bribes to Govt officials. That is not BAE's fault. Let's put it this way.If BAE did not give the bribe the Govt would take their contract somewhereelse. That does not excuse BAE's behavior but it puts things perspective. The problem of African Govts inflating contracts is not the fault of Western bizs like BAE but the fault of African politicians Besides, most weapons fueling conflicts in Africa do not come from the Western world. Most of the weapons come from the China and Eastern and Central Europe. Instead of engaging in another round Western bashing we should concentrate on the real source of the problems-China and Eastern Europe. Remember recently that the OBJ asked the Bush adminstration for weapons to deal with the Niger-Delta problem. When this was rejected he turned to China Chinese coys have an apalling record in offering bribes. They do not have the US equivalent of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act which prohibits coys from offering bribes in foreign nations Have u ever asked yourself why as an English speaking nation,Nigeria has few US and British coys entering into contracts with the Nigerian Govt |
I can see that the rabid emotionally disturbed man is on the rampage According to him, social commentary on Nigeria should not be made by those who have exercised the unpatriotic choice of venturing outside the shores of Nigeria. Commentary should be reserved for people of his ilk,a rabid breed, who in civilised settings would have been sectioned The reality of the living conditions in Nigeria are clear for all to see, evident in the amount of people who want to leave Living in a foreign land, there is a tendecy to get home sick. Incidentantly, migration to other nations is not monopolised by Nigerians. Here in the UK,300,000 Britons leave every year to settle abroad .More Brits and Irish descendants live outside the UK and Ireland than inside Nigeria is not worse off because of migration.Migration is a symptom of a general malaise and not the cause of our problems We are arguably better of through migration than we would have been without it |
Its easy when you are abroad to get misty eyed about home, forgetting the reason why u left in the first place U romanticise about Nigeria, meanwhile the people in Nigeria are busy trying to get out of Nigeria. A fellow Londoner was looking forward to coming home last Xmas,he is dead now.Shot by the police while in his car over a dispute about bribe At the end u should not forget about where u come from, but u should not forget why u left in the first place |
There were reports today out of Reuters that the former Germany Euro 96 winning coach has now been announced as Nigeria's new coach i think this is bad news.Berti Vogts has passed his prime and his record recently has been unremarkable We should have retained Eguaveon. The money we are using to pay his salary would been best put to use for other things Check out the Reuters story-http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/articlenews.aspx?type=footballNews&storyID=2007-01-15T150528Z_01. |
My position on believing in God is simple It is better that u believe for if it turns out he exists, u will be in an advantageous position If on the other hand it turns out God does not exist,u lose nothing anyway The answer from atheists is that u would have lost a lot in your life on earth but the fact is that every single study I have seen has shown that in Western society, those who believe in God have a better life than others-life expectancy, good health ,happiness Not only do those who believe in God have better prospects with respects to the after life,if there is one, they have better prospects here on earth Theists may be deluded ,but either way they win |

Interesting article on Transcorps that was linked in another thread by WindyWendy-http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2006/12/04/2136441.htm |
@hawee How do u know either of them are not fronting businesses for other people? Let me put it this way,if u are an ex-govt official, like IBB or Gowon,u don't run a business in your name U get others to run the biz in their name i t is impossible to tell whether the various bizs run by Dangote or Adenuga are not fronts for ex-military men |
You are financially succesful when you have enough assets to cover all your basic needs-including those of dependants-without having to work for the rest of your life |
Here is what i don't get about Transcorps It has 3 portfolio coys- NITEL,MTEL,Abuja Hilton-none of which are money spinners NITEL needs huge capital infusion which will mean adding to the debt load of the coy ,besides the fixed line telecoms sector is not exactly a huge growth market Arguably the mobile network mart is reaching saturation point and MTEL is a bit of a latecomer,it can't hope to win customers without offering very cheap deals which will depress earnings I don't see the hotel biz as very lucrative either More importantly, what kind of banana republic do we have where a coy can do an IPO without having a trading record Everywhereelse a coy must have a trading record for a certain number of years before offering its securities to the public. In the UK its 3 years under the same mgt And why the hell is the President of the NSE moonlighting as the Chairwoman of the Board of Transcorps? |
@Flintz Who is to say that in those 3 years, changes in the political environment won't undermine the coy? |
LoverBwoy:@Loverbwoy There is already a regional stock exchange for Francophone West African countries that use the CFA currency like Mali,Senegal,Ivory Coast e.t.c in Abidjan called the BRVM Here is the link in English Language-http://www.brvm.org/en/index.htm |
The richest Nigerian is probably IBB All these others like Adenuga are only fronting bizs for ex-military men like IBB |
@Mariory Apparently one of the journalists who reported the story has a reputation for false alarm-http://pajamasmedia.com/2007/01/israeli_military_leaks_iran_pl.php |
@mukina2 I am going to tell the Police in Saudi Arabia about what u have been up to ![]() |
