How do you actually measure the comparative strengths of 20 clubs leagues?

The problem with measuring the EPL's strength by virtue of the  performance of their representatives in the UCL is that, unlike many other leagues, the EPL puts out virtually the same 4 teams every season. In effect, all we are measuring is the strength of the EPL's ''permanent'' top 4 against the ''relative'' top 3 the Bundesliga puts out.

In reality, it doesn't tell us enough of the comparative aggregate strengths of the 2 leagues, i.e; is the average EPL side better than the average Bundesliga side?

In addition, the points gap between the top 4 sides in England, the so called mini-league, and the rest of the league is larger than the points gap between the Bundesliga's top 3 or 4 and the rest of the league. In effect, rather than the EPL's top 4 becoming a reflection of the strength of the overall league, they become outliers - like Celtic/Rangers(Scotland) and Porto/S.Lisbon(Portugal) - that have little correlation with the rest of the league.

For the above reasons, the UEFA Cup becomes relevant because it enables us to assess comparative strengths sans outliers.

The headline is obviously a hyperbole as the content of the report doesn't show that the MPs concluded that Nigeria is a failing state.

The Report repeats boilerplate points that every sane Nigerian is aware of viz; the menace of corruption and the various other leadership challenges Nigeria faces. Only our hyper-sensitivity to foreign criticism will lead us to criticise the report

Long distance bombing makes no difference either from a deterrence or a punitive perspective. What bombing can the US do from long distance that they haven't been able to do with troops on the ground? Besides, the Islamists are a death cult and will welcome the carpet bombing of their land.

The problem stems from the fact that people expect quick solutions. The Islamist threat is 14 centuries old and people are moaning about the intractable nature of its modern incarnation. The objective should be containment and you need troops on the ground to do that. Running away from the problem won't make it go away.

In the long term, a share price is the product of the interplay between demand and supply. Except on rare occasions, you cannot ''crash'' share prices if the underlying fundamentals support a bullish price. Nothing Dangote is accused of fits into the exceptions.

Is the US ''cultivating'' Venezuela as enemy or vice-versa? Chavez is the one who sponsors the FARC and plays the role of unpaid cheerleader for Iran in the region. I can't see how the US is cultivating Venezuela as enemy.

I'm still trying to figure out one good reason why Obama should have ignored Venezuela's Hugo Chavez. Hugo Chavez may have something against Bush and his senseless policies, but he clearly has nothing against Americans. Hugo Chavez is not a terrorist.

Follow the news. Chavez is a logorrhea afflicted rogue of a leader. Even by Obama's blinkered standards, there are very little grounds for consensus between these two.

The American revolution was in effect conceived and put into practice by only a few men.

What is ''many'' ? American revolutionaries numbered, at least, in the thousands. When it comes to positive things, you easily trumpet the free-thinking credentials of isolated cases. Is there any evidence that the bulk of the revolutionaries were anything other than Christian?

Why are people even comparing Bush's obsequiousness towards to the Saudis with Obama's? On a symbolic level, Obama's valet act towards the Saudi king, which surpasses anything Bush or any other President ever did towards the King, is a taste of things to come.

You can find numerous examples throughout history where various churches fought against injustice or dicatorship. You can also find examples to the contrary. No point in cherry picking history.

The undeniable reality is that when democracy did emerge, the fact that a majority of societies' inhabitants professed the Christian faith did not prove incompatible with its emergence.
