Foreign AffairsRe: The End Of Christian America by 4Play(m): 7:14pm On Apr 10, 2009
bawomolo:
Would you consider Japan or South korea to be christian countries? or even modern day Taiwan.
That's bloody irrelevant because I'm not arguing the view that Christianity is a necessity for the emergence of democracy. Only that Christianity is not an obstacle to it. History buttresses this. Very little factual basis to show that the absence of Christianity enables the emergence of democracy.

People keep yapping about examples of Christian societies, usually ancient history, that weren't democracies. Extrapolating from that is as good as claiming that since the Soviet Union or Cuba were run by atheists who promoted a strongly anti-religious philosophy, atheism is a hindrance to democracy.

What repudiates the woolly claims of the Christianity bashers is the undeniable emergence of democracies in largely Christian societies. The fact that other societies, copying these Christian societies,  adopted the democratic structures they saw already in practice doesn't advance the suggestion that Christianity hinders democracy.

Everyone starts out being an atheist. Noone is born with belief in anything.

The dumbness of this quote is surpassed by the dumbness of its lauders. Everyone starts out benighted, innumerate and illiterate but no one in their sane mind will use this, whether expressly or impliedly, to extol ignorance and illiteracy.

if that were case, how does one explain the democracies in asia?
india,
Korea,
Japan
or can one also claim that democracy is 'enshrined in 'hindi' values?
The above examples will be relevant if I was arguing that democracy is the product of Christianity. My argument is that Christianity isn't intrinsically incompatible with democracy. Democracy can emerge in most places - Christian, Buddhist and Hinduist.

However, one has to point out that the aforementioned 3 countries' democracies was largely influenced by the West. India was not a democracy prior to British colonisation and its democratic structures were a product of British colonial rule . Japan's democracy was effectively imposed by US occupation. Korea only became a democracy relatively recently and was  nudged in that direction by the US,which station tens of thousands of troops there

Russia was in the grips of the Eastern orthodox church until the advent of communism.  The Tsar's used the concept of divine rights to consolidate their power.  No one claims Christianity is incompatible with Democracy but Democracy definitely didn't come as a result of Christianity.  The same goes for free thought , morality , science and many concepts that exist today.
That's complete bollocks. If the 'grip' of the Church is relevant here, then a loosening of that grip post 1918 should have heralded greater democracy, no be so?  Particularly as the Communists were fiercely anti-religion, Communist Russia and the rest of the Eastern bloc should have been more democratic than the US and most of the West.

My disagreement is with the notion that Christianity is in of itself an impediment to democracy. Yet, democracies have taken the greatest root in societies were most inhabitants professed the Christian faith. That's a reality that can't be denied.
Foreign AffairsRe: North Korea Has Finally Lauched The Rocket by 4Play(m): 5:25pm On Apr 10, 2009
Nothing can be achieved without China's help. All North Korea wants is to continue extorting money through its threats so as to maintain the survival of the regime. If you ignore them, they will up the ante. The US needs to continue subsidising the regime and concentrate on ensuring that there are no leakages - technology or expertise being exported. The idle threats to North Korea need to stop.

The real issue are those countries - Iran, Brazil and the Arab countries - that have not yet gone nuclear. It's too late in the case of North Korea.
Foreign AffairsRe: Bank Stocks Rise On Wells Fargo Profit News by 4Play(m): 5:18pm On Apr 10, 2009
Krugman came up with a plan while the Bush and Obama administrations were still dithering. Not bad for an individual. A sitting Government has enormous resources - financial, human and legal - to fashion a plan. An individual doesn't.
Foreign AffairsRe: Bank Stocks Rise On Wells Fargo Profit News by 4Play(m): 5:13pm On Apr 10, 2009
The reality is that the most honest and competent people can't make it in politics. You have to be on some level dysfunctional, prepared to tell bold faced lies while in possession of an inordinate amount of self-regard to succeed in politics. If Joseph Stiglitz, Paul Krugman or Roubini ran for office, they will be thoroughly humiliated by someone less intelligent and competent than them.
Foreign AffairsRe: The End Of Christian America by 4Play(m): 5:05pm On Apr 10, 2009
This is a phantom debate that relies on a repudiation of history and current reality. If the Christian faith is incompatible, largely or wholly, with democracy, then democracies won't emerge in countries where a majority of the inhabitants profess that faith.

A country like Russia should be more democratic than the US, for the latter has greater levels of adherence to Christianity than the former. The facts speak for itself.
PoliticsRe: Your President Is Ghostly- He Needs To Go Home by 4Play(m): 4:58pm On Apr 10, 2009
His health condition is troubling because of the problem of succession. They need to have a contingency plan to have a Northern replacement in place in the event of his death. Obviously, the VP should instantly resign in such an eventuality.

It's simple Man,
Look around you and sample African Countries that are heavily dependent on Foreign Aid, Are they Better Of?
There is a saying that If The Oracle cannot enrich one then it should leave one to his fate.
What these donors do is to give us aid as disguise and plunder as main motive.
How did these African countries start depending on foreign aid in the first place? It was because they were so poor that external aid had to be injected to alleviate their poverty. Foreign aid is the consequence of African poverty and not the cause.
I have heard several times that many Bank Executives were actually forced by the Obama Administration to accept the bailout money even when they said they do not need it. Among the Banks are Wellsfargo as confirmed by this report, and the TCF Bank.

To say the money being spent by the Obama Admin to bailout most of these institutions is just to save the economy has always looked suspicious to me. It appears controlling these institutions is at the heart of the bailout. How else can one explain this?.
From my recollection, the TARP infusions into the banks, particularly Wells Fargo's, was conceived and announced before Obama took office.

My biggest problem with Obama is that he clearly doesn't have a clue about how to deal with this crisis . He is totally dependent on advisers like Geithner and Summers who are more interested in protecting their pals in Wall Street at the country's expense.

The competent people can't get elected because they are not charismatic enough or due to some inane disqualifying factor like past sexual peccadilloes, religious orientation or the lack of one, looks(an overweight person hasn't got a chance), their candour, e.t.c. Romney was brilliant but he wouldn't have stood a chance against Obama.

All these policies will do is what the Bush recession combating policies of '01 did, engineer economic growth for a while until we have an even bigger crash in a few years time. By that time Obama would be into his 2nd term but Americans will end up poorer than they were before he came into office.
Foreign AffairsRe: U.S. Aid To Africa Must Stop by 4Play(m): 11:41pm On Apr 06, 2009
I didn't have the time to read the whole pablum but I still don't get where she demonstrated that Africa would have been better off today if foreign aid had generally been absent.

Maybe I have to buy her book before she explains the claimed causality, viz, foreign aid begets poverty.

Does that senile and blithering idiot called the Queen deserve any respect in the first place?

I couldn't care less if Michelle clobbered her over the head with her hand bag. She needs to get a job. She's powerless, brain dead and nauseating. Her family is a cesspit of incest.

The whole monarchy should be abolished, the palaces ransacked and the members all sectioned in a mental institution.

Long Live England! grin grin I'm only kidding o

A bit bizzare because he is based in Aba.

Maybe Nassim Taleb was right when he said that the system of grading reseachers partly on the basis of the number of times their colleagues cite them is absurd.

Perhaps, like Emeagwali, he has excelled at self-promotion. Or maybe I'm just being cynical because he is a Nigerian. grin

Christianity EtcRe: Is It A Sin To Sleep With A Re-married Ex- Husband? by 4Play(m): 8:21pm On Mar 30, 2009
iReport:
How did the woman help her husband in committing adultery?. Naija guys ehn, they always want to give Adam's excuse to all their shortcomings.
Spare us the gender bleating. God's laws serve a higher purpose. The purpose of the indissolubility of marriage is to strenghten the family as the building block of society.

The whole essence of their relationship is a booty call. It doesn't serve God's purpose but subverts it. In essence, what you guys are saying is that if a couple, married for the first time, were to go their separate ways. They are free to sleep with each other in perpetuity because they are only consumating their indissoluble marriage. Utter nonsense.

In practice, the man will be unable to carry on his two timing without the help of the ex-wife. In God's eyes, not that I speak for God, they would be subverting the purpose of his law and as a result are commiting a sin.
RomanceRe: Why The Fat Ones? by 4Play(m): 7:54pm On Mar 30, 2009
The competition for svelte and sexy women is fierce, even within races.

If you are an impecunious man, you will struggle to date the ''hot'' girls within your race, never mind outside your race. You think wealthy young Nigerians abroad are all dating fat white chicks?
Christianity EtcRe: Is It A Sin To Sleep With A Re-married Ex- Husband? by 4Play(m): 7:31pm On Mar 30, 2009
This question is a no brainer. Of course both are sinning!

The man's case is obvious.

How is the woman sinning? By knowingly and willingly enabling the man commit fornication. The woman's sinfulness arises from the man's sinfulness.

If I knowingly help a person commit sin, I can't claim that on a technicality, I'm not actually the person sinning.

This one involves a quid pro quo so doesn't constitute a contribution to Nigeria.

In my case, I think I have made a meaningful contribution towards the wellbeing of many Nigerian girls, particularly those blessed with ample bosoms.
