Autossold! 02-06 toyota camry with 2azfe engine. by 9icetoo(op):
Car sports a 2.4 litre (4 cylinder) 2azfe engine with automatic gear. The interior is fabric and comes with factory alloy wheels and a spare alloy as well.
All preventive maintenance have been done by me during ownership so new owner can enjoy the car for a long time to come.
New oem oxygen sensor has been fitted as well as transmission drain and refill with genuine Toyota type T-IV trans fluid. Thermostat has been replaced with new oem and coolant flushed and refilled. Brake fluid has been drained and refilled too with genuine dot3 fluid. Car has been serviced with Mobil 1 and rarely driven. Car has also been resprayed.
Please note there is no issue with car and I am selling cos I don't need the car anymore. Pictures coming below.

Op, tell your friend he has to find his roots. He needs to go back 'home' and learn a thing or two about his people. His mother in law and wife mean no harm to the baby. Since he works offshore, he can afford good health care. He should take his baby along with wife and mother in law to a very good hospital for proper diagnosis and treatment. Don't forget my first advice though. Ka o di Ka anyi afuro.
Car TalkRe: Fuel Economy: Tips On How To Save Fuel by 9icetoo(m): 9:28am On Apr 07, 2015
Rubis:
I've gone through the article but unfortunately I'm not convinced in spite of the graph drawn and the mathematical analysis!

My afore-mentioned statements was based on personal experience. And nothing beats experience.
The faster you go, the more wind resistance you meet, the more power your car demands to overcome this resistance and hence more fuel. Let me use athletics as an analogy. Hussein bolt can run 100 meters flat out in 9 seconds but is totally spent at the end of it. He puts in so much effort to maintain that maximum speed that he runs out of energy (fuel) by the time he crosses the finish line. If the hussein bolt was to jog to that finish line at a slower pace, he would have more energy at the end to even do ten more 100 meter laps. If your car has an on board mpg display or you can connect an obd device that can display this, you will realise that most cars experience a drop in mpg after 90-100km/hr. This does not apply to some v6 and other high capacity engines.

May God bless you.

Someone on one of the foreign forums suggested
1) Reprogramming of the ECU
2) Check that the callipers are not sticky. I.e jack the car up, put in neutral and turn the front two tires to see if they are free.

My question is this, whilst no 2 is easy to do, can option be done here in Nigeria?

Secondly when I had issues with the Airbag and the DRL, the normal on board diagnostic scanner couldn't read it, but the professional scanner read both issues and got both issues fixed. I'm thinking everything should be okay with the ECU. or what do you think sir?

many thanks once again
I don't think anything is wrong with your ecu. Perform step number 2 first then check your alignment, check your tire pressures. Your driving style could also be a factor. If you step on the accelerator as if you are competing with Hamilton, your mpg will take a nosedive. Secondly, your car most likely needs high octane fuel and it isn't getting it here in naija so it robs you of a Lil mpg. Also 9 miles is a relatively short distance for a car to fully warm up and run on stoichiometric mixture which improves mpg unless that 9 miles takes a long time to cover. Idling especially in a city like lagos with endless stop and go traffic eats away at mpg more than any other factor. I think your ecu is okay. You are still getting decent mileage for someone staying in lagos. Take your car on a long trip (highway at least 60 miles) and see if your highway mpg is close to spec. If it is, then you are okay.

No matter what, I come down from the vehicle ask the attendant to clear the reading on the meter before going back to open my fuel tank door. It has been working for me like that.
They can still recall previous sale. It has happened to me before at the same filling station that op was nearly scammed. The dude claimed he had put almost 20 litres in my car which takes roughly 40 litres. My gauge was just below half before started. I saw him wipe the meter before he started. Lol. Those guys are crooks. I have learnt never to take my eyes off the meter. I stop come down, open my fuel filler cap myself, look at your meter and then give you the go ahead. If they ask me "oga how much?". I simply tell them to continue until I tell them to stop. That way they don't even know whether to give me hot air or fuel. Beware of that Mobil.

Hopefully it will stay off.
Car TalkRe: where can i scan my car In Port Harcourt by 9icetoo(m): 10:22am On Mar 31, 2015
The codes are
p0120
P0420
P0505
P0770
p0446
p1300
P1305
P1310
P1315.
The wire for the throttle position sensor (p0120), runs along the same path as the wires for the ignition coils (p13xx). That is why i suspect an electrical issue.
Ops car idled well when i was with him and switching on the ac didnt have any noticeable effect on his idle rpm so i am guessing the faults are all related.
Car TalkRe: Pls Help Needed In Decoding The Below Scan Codes. by 9icetoo(m): 12:36am On Mar 31, 2015
I have done some checking on your codes and aside from p0420 and p0446, the others seem to be as a result of a short, loose terminal or a corroded terminal. Did the check light come back?

I have done some checks on yourr codes op and they point to a loose electrical terminal or corroded terminal or a short in a wire. Did the check light come back on again?

Still below 14mpg. Where do you guys stay? Lagos? Cos you would have drive a relatively traffic free route to get such a mileage in Lagos.
Car TalkRe: How Reliable Is Lexus Rx300? In Terms Of Fuel Economy, Availability Of Parts. by 9icetoo(m): 12:44am On Mar 21, 2015
I wonder why someone would buy an suv and yet worry about mpg. I swear that lexus will never see close to 14mpg unless the dude stays in enugu or one of those very quiet towns with little or no traffic. I am yet to come across any suv that does up to 14mpg in lagos or ph. Op if you are worried about fuel economy, go and buy a 1.6 litre four cylinder corolla, kia Rio, Honda civic or city or hyundai accent.
3k fuel will last you for more than a week in any of these vehicles.
You cannot eat your cake and have it.

Car TalkRe: What Nice Car Can I Buy For 800k? by 9icetoo(m): 9:31am On Mar 15, 2015
Forget the quoted mpg by manufacturers. In real world driving, a lot of factors affect that stuff. A colleagues 2006 pilot was getting 12 mpg combined, a friends lexis es 300 was getting 11.8 mpg combined, while I was barely getting 17mpg in my camry. These were all below manufacturers stated mpg and these cars had different engine sizes. Short trips with a lot of stop and go and idling time will wreak havoc on any cars mpg.
If you do mostly city driving and are conscious of how much you spend on fuel, get a 4 cylinder, if you travel quite a bit and have a need for speed, get a v6, if you have a deep pocket and travel quite a bit, get a v8.
Car TalkRe: What Nice Car Can I Buy For 800k? by 9icetoo(m): 7:33pm On Mar 14, 2015
The 02-06 camry (big for nothing) is a reliable car. One of the most reliable on the road. The stripped head bolt issue affected only a small batch of engines fitted to some 03 models.
If u r in ph, mail me. Mine is up for sale. It's an 02 model.

Hello house,

Sometimes my car engine doesn't totally go off even when I've out it off and removed the keys and even locked the car, you still hear the engine whirring for some minutes before it finally dies down.

Is there anyone with an explanation to this and is it a cause for worry.

Thanks
It's not your engine. It's your cooling fan. Some cars are equipped with fans that can even come on on their own once it senses extreme temperature in the engine. So even after you have shut off your engine, there is something called latent heat that the cooling system tries to get rid of. It's not a problem.
Car TalkRe: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by 9icetoo(m): 9:45am On Mar 10, 2015
I finally got my skoda octavia to run. Car had been left idle for three years. It runs great but has one small issue. The fans run constantly at high speed. They start running as soon as you turn the car on. Being a diesel engine, I don't suppose it will have much of an effect on mpg since it doesn't use spark ignition and the temperature dependent burning properties of petrol. I would like to revert to factory settings so it doesn't put too much strain on the alternator and battery but I have read that the fan is directly controlled by the brain box and as such not much can be done. Has anyone successfully tackled something like this?

Good advice. What is the recommended atf transmission oil? How often should it be replaced?
I don't know about the 09 city but the 07 city requires a cvt fluid change every 20k or so. However, this interval was stated before the newer cvt fluid was formulated. The newer cvt fluid can last as long as 40k. If you read your manual, you will find the recommended interval. I've been using my cvt fluid now for close to a year and it has not changed colour and still smells okay. I use the newer fluid and a lot of the symptoms I used to experience with the previous fluid has disappeared.
Car TalkRe: Presently Looking @ Honda City 09/10 Model, Any Advise Plzzz 9ira'land by 9icetoo(m): 3:53pm On Mar 08, 2015
The Honda city is a nice car. I own an 07 model. Bought it used from someone here on nairaland. The cvt auto is not that bad. I thought I was going to have issues with it but two fluid changes have restored the auto box to normal operation. In one of my posts I documented my trip with it to lagos from ph and back to ph. I averaged 40mpg. Just take care of the cvt as stated in the manual. Don't race it. Don't tow with it. Avoid getting stuck with it and don't swim in pools of water where water can get into the transmission. Change the fluid at recommended times with the correct fluid. The cvt might take sometime to get used to. There is often a delay when you shift from drive to reverse or vice versa. It never lasts more than two seconds especially when the car is cold. It is normal. Treat the car nice and it should last a while. The other point to note is; avoid impacts on the car at all costs. The body shell of the city (07) was designed to crumple upon impact. I don't know how the 09 model was designed. I just hope it is sturdier than mine.

Anigbajumo I know a lot about haulage and it's my dad has been doing the biz even before I was born. He started off with Nissan uds, Bedford and like everyone else then, moved over to the mecerdes 911. He still runs the business. I doubt if you will be leaking any trade secrets by telling me how many kilos you average in a week. So I ask again, how many kilometers do you average a week when demand for your services is high. Do you know the recommended oil for your trucks and do you know the recommended change intervals?

Did u knw wat makes me keep on argue wif u,u said "No manufactuer wil even recommend 4x service 4 any vehicle in a year".......Let me enlight u bro, if da economy is good nt dis tyme wen da rate of importation of goods has fallen due to falln in Naira...If da economy iz good nd ther is high demand for goods from western to eastern syd or to d north.A truck like 12 tyres (man disel) will gain at least 130k a week after paid for (fuel, driver nd motor boy) nd if dea s no damage......if u gain 130K a week pls hw much is jst 20K evry six wks for service jst for ur vehicle 2b in good condition.......(Diesel engine vehicle)
How many kilometers does your truck average in a week when the economy is good? With this, we can better understand your need for frequent oil changes. Mind you, these trucks have very large oil pans and contain enough oil to accommodate long oil change intervals.

bauchi - lagos is 1070km. if i use full synthetic engine oil and i do the trip 2times a week (back and forth) (4000km per week) i would have covered 24,000km in 6weeks (4000km x 6) anigbajumo has a point only if he is a transporter. wink

modified. full synthetic on my vehicle should not exceed 10,000km before oil change.
This analysis makes sense. Antigbajumo, do your trucks cover this distance in the six weeks?
Car TalkRe: Diesel To Petrol Engine by 9icetoo(m): 12:04pm On Mar 06, 2015
Anigbajumo, I understand you. I was in your shoes before. However, I didn't know any better then. I accepted whatever the mechanic or my dad told me then. Now I know better. There are two angles to this. If you are using the manufacturers recommended engine oil, then I will have to tell you that you are wasting your money. I'd you are not using the manufacturers recommended oil, then consider the frequent oil change an insurance against wear and tear and breakdown. Diesel cars have longer oil change intervals compared to petrol cars. This is mainly because diesel has higher lubricating qualities than petrol. Diesel mixing with engine oil due to blowby is not as bad as petrol doing same. Petrol thins out engine oil, causes bore washout and the thinned out engine oil sometimes gets combusted and fouls catalytic converters. So there is no need changing your oil every six weeks unless you are not using the recommended engine oil.
