Infomizer:You should report this matter to FRSC. His licence should be withdrawn. Not everyone reads nairaland. |
1. Take up car to a decent mechanic and have him look it over properly especially the wheels and suspension. If you have heard or noticed any funny noises, have him investigate that as well. 2. Visit a tire shop and perform wheel balancing and alignment. Make sure it done properly and inflate your tires to the recommended pressure (you will find this somewhere around the door or in your manual). Equally make sure your tires are not too old or worn out. If you can see cracks in the tire, it is probably time to change it. Check your spare as well. 3. Buy and stock up on light snacks and fluids to keep hunger at bay during the journey unless you know a decent restaurant you can use without risking food poisoning on your way. (having a running stomach on a long trip is the last thing you want). 4. If you are big on music, now is the time to sort out your play list or burn your favourite tracks for the trip into a CD. You do not want to be changing cds while on the road. It is a serious distraction that has led even experienced drivers to their demise. 5. Pack whatever you will be travelling with a night before and sleep very well. I mean real deep uninterrupted long sleep. 6. Check your car fluids on the day of the journey. Check oil level, water/coolant level, transmission fluid level and brake fluid level. This is an opportunity to check your tires again. 7. Check your car documents and make sure they are complete and up to date. You will surely encounter police/frsc along the way. Make sure all your bulbs are working and you have your spanner, jack, safety triangle, tow rope and fire extinguisher. Don't forget your drivers licence. 8. When you have done all of these and finally hit the road, drive sensibly and drive with the mindset that all other drivers are crazy (trust me, a lot of them are). Be confident. Maintain at a distance of at least two car lengths between you and the car in front of you to give yourself ample reaction time. Never go above 100km/hr. Don't drive too slowly either or you will become a hazard to other road users who might land themselves and you in trouble while trying to overtake the convoy you would have created with your snail speed. Never get distracted by anything not even a conversation. Stay focused always. And in case of a blowout or any loud sound, never ever step on the brakes until the car has slowed down to at least 60km/hr. 9. Never stop in an open. Drive to a filling station (a working one) and stop unless you have a breakdown and your car can't make it to a fuel station like above mentioned. 10. Leave early enough if the journey is a long one and make sure you have your route mapped out ahead. If you must return to your point of departure on the same day, it's a good idea to depart early as well. Do not drive at night. It is very risky. 11. If you can get someone to accompany you, that will be great. 12. Come back here and tell us all about your journey. Good luck. |
We don't even need the stupid speed limiters in the first place. Do they expect everyone to crawl at 80km/hr? Imagine the gridlock that will cause on the highway. |
doroboss:Hahahahahahahaha. OMG, this really got me cracking |
It depends on the race course. If its a straight line dash, based on the 0-62 times, the SUV should win. If its on a twisty and winding road, the saloon might win. races are never really about 0-62 numbers printed about by manufacturers or about HP. Torque and torque distribution through the rev range are also serious factors to consider and they come to play when twisting roads come into play. |
abatically:You said dual and not how many lanes. If you had mentioned the number of lanes, I wouldn't have asked. Yes, it is perfectly okay to overtake from the right on highways with three or more lanes and where it is permitted. |
abatically:Who gave this guy his drivers license? |
stagger:Speed limiters for what purpose? Have u not seen folks who crash at 50km/hr? The key is safe driving and observing the rules. Like citing posted, if the truck had been fitted with a rear guard, the occupants might have survived. If the other slow driver had stayed on the slow lane instead of hugging the speed lane, this accident might have been avoided. If the driver had applied due diligence and been patient, he might still be alive. These are the factors that led to this tragic incident and not overspeeding. That road was purposely made a three lane highway so that people could get to their destinations quickly and not limit their speeds. Single lane highways have a speed limit of 80 in Nigeria. What do you think is the speed limit on a three lane highway? |
Hello all. I have small problem and i am hoping Siena and co can sort me out. I recently bought a skoda octavia 1.9Tdi (mk2). However, it's missing a few parts. The master and slave cylinder is missing as well as the complete clutch pedal (someone did a number on me). I have found matching replacements for the master and slave clutch cylinder (from a volkswagen bora). I would like to know if the clutch pedal from a bora can be a direct replacement for that of the skoda octavia. |
And as i expected, this thread has turned into another JAP versus EURO war. Jeez! Una no dey tire? Toyota makes cars for everyone, from the race car entusiasts (Lexus LFA) to the A to B drivers (the camry, corolla and Yaris). Nissan has a similar line up too. The Nissan GTR (skylines of yesteryears), catered to the speed enthusiasts while the Sunny, Altima and Maxima takes good care of the A to B guys. Your famed BMW has something for all too. In all of these though, there is one factor which everyones cherishes and that is RELIABILITY. This is where the JAPS win. It is well and good to jump on the band wagon and claim that EURO cars are superior. That's your choice. However, remember that the highest selling Automobile is still a JAP. Back to the discussion about cooling. It all dpends on the condition of your cooling system. Mercedes has a nice cooling system and i was wowed by my friends 2012 volkswagen passat cooling system. I have never broken a sweat in my camry even on the hottest day. Only thing is i have adjust it manually all the time. But it gets the job done. |
delishpot:Delishpot, your idea is well and good but please tell me where that is done anywhere in the world. Trucks haul goods all over the country all over the world. It will be almost impossible to do what you just suggested. The only places I know trucks are regulated is within city limits. They have free rein on the highway. Like I said earlier, the laws are there to regulate them. The trucks should be fit as well as the drivers and the roads they ply. |
disloman:I don't think it is Z1. Please verify. It uses the Honda CVT fluid. It is just called CVT fluid. Its a nice little car with plenty of room inside and a generous boot. The fuel efficiency is amazing if you keep speed below 100km/hr. |
OP, we have laws regulating all vehicular movement in Nigeria already. It is not the movement of the trucks that cause havoc and accidents, rather it is the road condition, truck condition, competency of the driver and or other road users. Trucks haul goods everywhere in the world at all times of the day. In Nigeria unfortunately, a lot of the trucks on the highway shouldn't be there in the first place (most are in a terrible state); some of the drivers were tested and passed by a fellow driver while they were mates and never subjected themselves to a proper driving test; the roads don't do them any favors too. Then other road users cause accidents for these trucks as well. I have witnessed where a Mitsubishi Gallant overtook a truck and slammed on his brakes immediately because of a pothole. The truck slammed into the rear of the Gallant and nearly wrecked other cars around it. If I had not witnessed it, someone might come out to say the truck driver intentionally ran into the Gallant. People often blame accidents involving trucks on the truckers even when it is no fault of theirs. |
valmunich:Wetin u wan use the driver do? |
nurey:They will when they spot it. A friend of mine has been delayed because of it and he had to ppromise to remove it after several pleas and calls were made. It is illegal. Please do not mount it. We are having a hard enough time already with people (idiots) who use their full beams not to talk of roof rack lights. |
kayswag100:Okay. This qualifies for 'severe driving'. At seven minutes, you engine oil never really gets warmed up. good news is you are using synthetic so you are okay. I would advice a change after 5,000 miles. However, take the car for an extended highway run (average speed of 100km/hr for 15 minutes or more) at least once a month to properly warm up that oil and get rid of condensation and other stuffs currently building up. That 'service engine soon' light is actually your check engine light. It means your ECM has stored a code and you should scan the car as soon as possible. |
kayswag100:How long exactly is your office from your house in kilometers? (this will help). What is your total travel time from house to office? (this will also help). What brand of Total oil did you use? Is it the fully synthetic Quartz 9000? |
Adminisher:Show me the bloody documents. SHOW ME!!!!!!!! |
Gazzuz, where is the test result na? I have been laughing all night. This topic should have been moved to the jokes section i swear. The sarcasm here is on another level. I do not support XFT though. Never tried it, never will. |
saintkash:In the USA supply and demand determines the final price. In our blessed Nigeria, the price is fixed by the government and not by economic laws. if the government decides to subsidize PMS to the amount you quoted above, we would be in even worse condition than we are presently. (We made a budget with oil at 75 dollars a barrel; now oil is way below 50 dollars a barrel, where do you think they will manufacture money to continue subsidizing this commodity and yet continue running the government? I still maintain that subsidy should be abolished. When it is, local refineries will spring, buy crude oil at competitive rates, refine and sell at even lower prices. Not to mention the jobs they will create during their construction and subsequent operation. win win situation for all. |
herald9:Premium motor spirit is not. Use your brain for once. Thank me later |
If the entrance to your house has a significant slope, then your exhaust in the mid section of the car will most likely scrape on the ground when going in. The camry is a fairly long car so such things happen. there are two ways you can help the situation. 1. Lighten your load before climbing the slope 2. Climb the slope at an angle such that the tires diagonally opposite make contact with the slope almost at the same time. As for the thump when you are climbing bumps, check your sway bars and its bushing as well. I think there are 205/70/15 tires you can fit. That can give you some lift. |
nurey:Of course its a VW product. Skoda Octavia Estate MK2. ![]() |
Be careful when going for larger tire sizes on the Camry. During tight turns, bigger tires will rub on plastic lining of the inner wheel well and damage it giving your beloved car an unsightly look. Secondly, bigger tires and rims will weigh heavier and will wear down your suspension components faster e.g shocks, ball joints, tie rods and lower arm bushings. With bigger tires and rims, it won't be long before you start hearing the famous "thunk thunk thunk" from your shocks and stabilizers. You can try 16 inch rims with 215/60/16 tires but this won't give you the increase in height you are looking for. 215 stands for the width of the tire in millimeters, sixty is the height from the ground to the lip of the rim and 16 is the rim size in inches. The Camry isn't a beauty so lifting it will make it look worse. Your current tire setting which i believe is 205/65/15 is okay with regards to stability and handling. The loud sound your hear might be your suspension telling you it due for a change. Please also check and make sure your tire pressure is as recommended by the car manufacturer. Over inflated tires can make you hear that loud thumping sound when you go over bumps. Also I hope you do slow down at bumps and at bad road sections too. It's not an SUV you know. If you want a car with a higher ground clearance, you are probably better off with an SUV. |
chillex8:Yes I do. I recently purchased a 1.9Tdi. I am tired of queuing at filling stations to buy petrol. I intend to use the diesel whenever there is scarcity of petrol. If the northerners buy fuel from Niger and still make profit while selling at 97 naira, then i think we can comfortably remove subsidy. With it removed, hopefully the money formerly spent on subsidy will be used for something more meaningful. |
GAZZUZZ:Are you against removal of subsidy? I am wondering why the price of diesel hasn't come down despite low oil prices. |
There is a reason why you know a BMW, Mercedes, JEEP, Toyota or Honda when you see one even without seeing the badge. That's the design language. If you can do better than the designers though, drop your CV with them. I bet their website has a careers section. ![]() |
Lol. My younger bro felt the shock over the xmas and nearly took flight. He must have thought the village witches were after him. It is caused by static electricity build up i believe. How the circuit is completed for you to get the shock is what i don't understand. |
Shopy yes, the 2.4 litre camry engine is more powerful than the regular 2.0 litre engine in the Avensis. Like i wrote earlier, you can opt for the v6 camry or the 2.2 litre d4d powered avensis. Fulaman, that 4 horses might just be enough to run my air conditioner so it means something to me. ![]() |
Op, either you go for the V6 version of the camry or yor you go for the 175 hp turbo diesel (D4D) version of the avensis. Both will give u plenty of power and a bit of luxury. |
Fulaman198:I was referring to the 4 cylinder i4 (2azfe). For an engine of its size (2.4L) it's output 156 hp is pretty poor. The torque is quite comparable to engines of its size however a honda of same engine size delivers more hp. That jbl sound system sounds amazing if you have ever listened to the sound output of other regular sound systems. It sounds rich. |
Honda city 1.5 litre engine with 42 litre capacity. Averaged 40 mpg on my last trip to and from lag. However with a fully loaded boot (yams, cocoa yams, gallons of red oil etc) and three adults and and infant, same car averaged 10km per litre during this xmas trip. Covered 220kms with 21 litres. Route included lots of hill climbs though. Guess all the load bogged the engine down. |
