lonelydora: ![]() Lagosians still get manners self. I bow for PH people. However OP, why would anyone in his right senses with a valid drivers license (which means he was certified to drive), bash someone directly in front of him? Is he/she blind? Its crazy the way people drive sometimes. I was once in a friends car on a trip of less than 5 kilometers. The guys car got bashed four times before we got to our destination. he got so mad that we we just turned around and headed back home. Do you expect such a guy not to come down and bring down the heavens? I go soon begin carry hammer for boot. If anybody bash me, i go come down survey the damage. If mine is worse than his, i will replicate the damage on the offending car with my hammer if we cannot reach an agreement and drive off. chikena. |
erico2k2:It might interest you to know that not all vehicles sold in the US have stellar ratings when it comes to crash tests. There are minimum requirements. Even Kias are sold in the mighty US of A and have received stellar reviews from users. The Korean cars have even started gaining market shares. Some cars are not built these days to retain their rigidity like our trusted old volvos but to crumple on impact and absorb the force of impact transmitting less force to the occupants of the car. Some people see such cars after an impact and say the car was poorly built when in actual fact that was the intended design. Some cars go further by giving you side curtain airbags and all those other supplementary safety systems. Innoson vehicles give you all these and more. Check the different models innoson has to offer and have a look at the safety features. The Korean cars give you these as well. Have you been inside a Hyundai Genesis and read its safety reviews? First releases sure have their problems but that is why you have warranties which a brand new car gives you. If I can afford it, I will buy a brand new car over a Tokunbo. The peace of mind a brand new car gives is a heavenly feeling. Pay and drive off, no need to change batteries, tires, pads, oil, filter, alternator belt, timing belt, water pump (wetin remain for the car?) etc. LOL. And you definitely won't be raped by mechanics just about every other time your Tokunbo car breaks down. |
Siena:You know for quite some time i couldn't figure out the difference. If u convert ur fuel consumption to MPG using US gallons which is what we use here in naija, it drops down to 18 which is close to the advertised MPG for your car. Using UK gallon to litre conversion slightly bumps up MPG. ![]() |
Is this car still available? If so please kindly state the engine size. Is it a 1.4, 1.6 or 2.0 L engine? Thanks. |
Zimdrill got it spot on for you OP. Change your vehicle speed sensor with one with the exact part numbers and all should be well. |
I don't think anyone who takes my car to a mechanic for even a minor job without telling me will find my reaction funny. My reaction would be epic. LOL. I know its just a car but hey these guys can commit heinous crimes on a vehicle when not closely monitored. I even go under the car with the alignment guy which is a minor job not to talk about a job that will involve opening the engine bay. One unwritten rule i have whenever i give my car to anyone is "if shit happens, give me a call before any mechanic touches the car". |
crispgg:Nna eh. Where did you read about 2AZ-FE issues? You want to rubbish an engine that toyota made for donkey years because of its reliability? The Vibe is a good car OP and if you are lucky enough to get a version with the Yamaha built engine just like some Matrix XRS that develops 180 hp, then you will be able to surprise a few people out on the road. |
Its not really advisable to put your auto trans in neutral to coast for considerable periods of time. With parts still moving, the pump in your trans needs to be pumping the fluid round to keep things cool in there. Secondly, accelerating and then coasting in neutral and then accelerating again, isn't going to give you really good fuel economy. I have monitored my real time mpg figures using a scan tool while driving and came to realize that this method doesn't really give good fuel economy. Maintaining a steady speed on the other hand does. Most new cars have fuel cut off technology that automatically cuts off fuel when a vehicle is coasting with high RPMS. This usually happens when going downhill. So shifting your gear to N will take away this function. In N, the ecm will still inject small amounts of fuel to keep the engine running while if it was in D, the momentum of the tires and crankshafts linked together by the gear will keep the engine ticking but without using any fuel. The fuel cut off is usually around 1500 rpm on most cars. When going downhill, leave your gear in drive and take ur foot off the accelerator. It gives you engine braking, fuel cut off and enough time to react if anything goes awry. |
timbros:I might be going out of Ph on Saturday and will be gone for a while. You can come on any day before Saturday from five PM. |
Op, your transmission is slipping. If you continue driving it this way, it will get worse and you may start losing other gears as well. Not much damage has been done already. You can still rescue this transmission if you will agree to what a lot of people have mentioned here and i will summarize. 1. Park that car and do not drive it again. 2. Go online and find out the recommended transmission oil for your car and buy it from any reputable dealer. You can contact nissparts here for that. 3. Do at least two flushes to get rid of the old transmission oil the geniuses at Total filled in for you. Do not be cheap on this flush twice. This means draining the current fluid, pouring the correct fluid and driving around for about ten miles. Drain again and repeat the process. Then refill again. The last refill shouldn't be too contaminated and should be okay by now 4. Drive the car around and check if your gear still slips. 5. If it still does, then you might need more professional help. Service stations can hardly stock recommended engine oils not to talk of transmission oils. |
I've seen taxi drivers push their taxis into filling stations especially where there is a queue. They push it with so much effort and stress for a distance of about 200 meters that wouldn't have cost them 50 cl of fuel (about 50 Naira). Keke drivers whose machines average a mind boggling 50Mpg already are guilty of this as well. |
Siena, Kias are not as bland as you put them. Every model of a car has trims. My family drive Kias. Dad drives a Cerrato (2009), mum drives a Soul (2010), sis drives a Rio (2012). All are brand new and all are the top trims in their model range. None has ever been to the mechanic for any repairs. Service is done at Kia dealerships. Tires and brake pads are changed at Kia dealerships. The Soul has done more than 36,000 kilometers and the Cerrato is close to 100,000 Km now. Every car manufacturer has issues with assembly quality or material quality once in a while. Even the mighty Toyota had to recall a lot of vehicles for issues and defects. OP, if you want peace of mind, please buy the new Kia Rio. Preferably, buy the sedan type and add a lil bit more money to get the highest trim. Your warranty will take care of almost any issue (except accidents of course) that you might encounter in the car. The three in my family have had no issues so far and are still going strong. Our former mechanics have long lost our numbers because they have been rendered redundant by the kias. So for peace of mind, please get the Kia. That lexus is already 11 years old and some components will start to fail sooner than later and they will be really expensive to replace. |
I stay in abuloma. U r in good hands with Gazzuzz. If u plan to come though, please come with the digital multi meter. We are going to have a lot of fun with it. lol. I am free from five in the evening. 08131562123. cheers. |
U forgot to add "turning off ignition on slopes to save fuel". |
I stay in PH and can help you scan your car and perform the limited diagnosis i can perform. Why change the air flow meter when you havent even scanned the car? I hope you have the old air flow meter with you. You might still need it. And i am doing it for free. Pray tell me, is your vehicle a four cylinder? Cos my knowledge is limited to four cylinders basically. |
![]() Op was so impatient. Can't blame him though. He was probably used to seeing cars with their fans howling like the engine was on fire. Good thing u came here first before going to a rewire who would have passed the death sentence on that car. Enjoy ur car. |
Looks interesting. |
Wow |
The W126 was one solidly built benz. The issues it had were our uninformed mechanics playing chess with the car. it came with a whole lot of new systems which our mechanics then weren't conversant with. The end result is quite predictable. Still got one going strong in the family. A bit thirsty on the fuel side though. |
Allow ur car warm up till it goes a bit over the half way mark, don't put on the Ac, just leave the car on. If the fan does not come on after the temperature has significantly crosses the half way mark (do not allow it get to the red zone), then you we can take it from there. Meanwhile, do not allow the electricians butcher it just yet. |
Devirus2:Well, there goes another camry user who thinks he can get away with servicing with just any oil. You might get away with it for a while but not for too long. A lot of camrys, highlanders and rav4s with this engine are beginning to display the symptom you are having now owing to years of abuse by their owners. if you can still rev ur car beyond 5,000 rpm after it has warmed up, then probably much damage hasn't been done to the cams lobes, sprocket, lifters and valves. Please start using the recommended oil from now on and stay away from anything like oil treatment, ap visco, mobil xhp or any other heavy oil. I have heard a mechanic once recommending oil treatment to someone who complained about something like this. Please don't try it if it has been recommended to you already. |
check my posts. I have a less than one year nigerian used 2000 model golf 4 with manual transmission for 650k. if interested please drop ur email so we can discuss further. |
RIP to the dead. I do not think the taxi driver was speeding from the skid marks i saw in the pix. He was hit from the side by another speeding vehicle most likely as he was making a turn. It is my assumption that he started making that turn without signaling or using his rear and side view mirrors and expecting the oncoming vehicle to stop for him. The sad thing is scenarios like this occur everyday and his fellow taxi drivers will not learn from it. taxi drivers feel like they own the road whenever they are on it and are the worst drivers. Since okada was banned, the spirit of carelessness was transferred to them. |
Pergrace:Mobil 1 is not 20 w 50. 20 w 50 is Mobil XHP. and Nigeria is not hotter than some states in the USA and the manufacturer stated 5 w 30 even for those places. So please get 5 w 30 and if you can't go for other alternatives which includes Mobil 1 (0 w 40) or Total quartz 9000 (5 w 40) |
Still available. |
Still available. |
andre82:hahahahaha. You must be a comedian |
CityNG: ROFLMAO. Never knew you were this funny. Have read a lot of funny posts as well here. My word. This is better than anything they have in the jokes section. |
felixmadugba:Still available. Not going to fly at 270k.Add 80k and owner might be willing to sell. |
Still available. Price is now 650k. |
6ft:Yeah it includes city and highway. But should be more of highway. |
Measure how much oil ur car consumes after 1000 miles. If its above 1 litre, then we will look for the cause. I have posted some things u should do in another topic. |
