TheGoodJoe: The question is, why did they wait too long to ramp up the test and why are they not taking massive action to increase testing capabilities in other countries.
Even the current rate of testing is not enough if we consider how deadly this virus is around the World. We need to act faster in a very large capacity. Nigeria simply did not have the capacity to do so... But neither did the US, UK, Italy, France and so many other nations across the globe. It’s only in NL that Nigeria is not a third world nation (when tbh, Nigeria is not even rich third world)... The reality is that Covid-19 caught virtually EVERY nation by surprise and everyone is making it up as they go along. > |

Openbusiness: Story, take responsibility because your hopeless do-nothing govt kept billions of money in my pocket to spend for me to take responsibility on their behalf, mtchwwwwwwwww. No government survives mass anarchy! Let them continue dulling and let's see who will lose at the end. Already so much billions in revenue has been lost, so much billions of govt allocation funds spent, yet the matter never even enter gear 2, we still dey gear 1. The Nigerian economy is already romancing with recession, by the time the recession get belle dem go know wassup. Foreign countries like US, UK, EU that normally play big brother and captain hero to save have their own plates full and battling for survival of their own. Look at where this virus is hitting the most in Lagos, and you already know who’s losing... Covid-19 has no moral or political compass and thus folks should quit being delusional and save their own lives.’ #TakeResponsibility > |

Openbusiness: In other words the government is dumb and stupid for taking an approach of levity from the beginning. By the time they spend all the national budget money for 2020, 2021, 2023 to 2030 together combined to fight Coronavirus in 2020 alone, they will wake up from their stupidity. 14 days lockdown so far was a waste. The current 14 days lockdown we are in will be another waste because the fucking GOVT lacks people with sound critical thinking ideas that can curb the spread. If I was the governor of LASG , I would do a better job 100000% than what we have now. You can't just shut down without testing, they should have bought at least like 100 million test kits, distribute it like 2 million per LGA and LCDA, then enforce a lockdown. Have LGA testing units go out and test people from house to house, collate the results, then you know the areas that has a high rate of Coronavirus and those that don't. Then you shutdown those areas within the lockdown, nobody goes in or out. Other areas with no cases are opened up and people continue living their lives but with safety guidelines of no mass congregation, compulsory facemasks or ppe when going out to work or anywhere, social distancing, no public transport allowed, only government transport (BRT etc) so that they can enforce and monitor the social distancing compliance when people are going from one place to another, while the state remains on lockdown from international and local travels, nobody is allowed to enter Lagos without going through a 14 days quarantine at a govt isolation center. Then those areas that you have shutdown under the lockdown, you concentrate on distributing relief materials and money to the people there. The infected ones will be evacuated to the isolation center for treatment, and mass decontamination of public spaces, houses and homes within those areas are carried out. You treat the State as if it's a computer programme and you execute it in clusters. Like you are doing programming up to down and down to up, YOU CONQUER THIS VIRUS BY RUNNING LIKE AN INTERPRETER THAT TAKE THE CODES LINE BY LINE, LOCATION BY LOCATION, YOU CAN'T DEFEAT IT BY ACTING LIKE A COMPILER THAT WANTS TO RUN THE CODE AT ONCE. That's what they are doing now and guess what? SYNTAX ERROR everywhere. Over 300 cases in Lagos now and the government is still sleeping No need for the thesis (which tbh I won’t bother to read)... There’s NO country worldwide where everyone has simply relied on government alone to fight Covid-19. #TakeResponsibility > |

SenecaTheYonger: If not that we are very stingy, that one billion they claimed to have spent during this lockdown, they could have rented a large as Bleep camp and equipped it for isolation of all imported cases both symptomatic and asymptomatic. But the authorities are using those monies/donations/CSR now to put the facilities in place... But at the time this virus arrived, Nigeria (just much of the rest of the world) was short-handed (and we probably still are). > |

If only this satanic, self serving government had done needful by closing the borders earlier, Nigeria wouldn't be in this dire situation!
Nig urgently needs a leader! Nigerians are still returning (by land) as we speak... You cannot stop citizens returning to their own country. Nigerians love to blame government (and there’s a lot to blame)... But this time the actions of ORDINARY NIGERIANS is/will be the decisive factor. Do returnees self-isolate? Will people report symptoms? Do people observe social distance? Etc, > |

SenecaTheYonger: Self isolate has to be one of the dumbest move they could implement. If not for their copy copy nature, they would have know that many Nigerians who came from abroad will never self isolate. People that has never obeyed traffic law in their lives will now obey this one? Story!
They have caused the community spread and now it’s to late. The resources they put into this lockdown could have been used to aggressively trace those imported cases.
We can’t think for ourselves, we just have to copy Whites Self-isolate is a practical solution when you do not have enough facilities in place... Of the index case, 179 contracts were traced and self-isolated, and only one ended up positive. > |

Openbusiness: Both the Lagos commissioner for health and the minister of health needs to be sacked. They caused all this rubbish giving the government fake hope that they were prepared, giving them bloody wrong recommendations that people coming into the country should self isolate at home. That's the dumbest thing ever. Stay at home and self isolate for some people that don't even believe the virus is real, or stay at home and self isolate for a returnee from abroad that hasn't been to Nigeria in 10 years and is so eager to mingle with family and friends and explore the city. Who monitored them whether they complied? Oh you just thought because you advise them to stay at home and self isolate, 100% of the abroad returnees will just obey you and lock themselves inside one room alone by themselves for 2 weeks without interacting with anybody in a HIGHLY SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT LIKE LAGOS? These guys got it so wrong from the beginning. They should have recommended from the beginning compulsory 14days isolation for anyone coming into the country from anywhere, and govt move them from airport straight to quarantine centre. It will have cost the govt little money to build and maintain the compulsory isolation policy than to give the potential infected carriers free pass to enter your cities without a guarantee that they will self isolate properly. Now they will spend the whole 2020 budget on Coronavirus and still borrow BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO BE VERY STUPID IN HANDLING THIS MATTER, A PENNY WISE POUNDS FOOLISH GOVERNMENT! Now you have community spread in a city that PEOPLE CAN'T DO WITHOUT SOCIALIZING, in a place that is the MICROCOSM OF NIGERIA and every tribe is represented in Lagos and once the virus hits Lagos, it will surely circulate across the entire country in a short time. In others words, let’s blame government because they should know that Nigerians are DUMB AND LAWLESS...> |

Openbusiness: Lagos mainland is in the lead because those fuckers put a level 3 infectious disease facility on the mainland, right inside a densely populated residential area. A facility that should have been built in a remote area like snake Island or inside a jungle somewhere that has no civilian population. Why didn't they build it in VI, Ikoyi or Lekki? But they will build it right next to the poor. Do you know that when the coronavirus matter started, all the people who developed symptoms and hoping to get tested, all had to find their way to the IDH in Yaba, some of them took public buses and those areas you have to pass to get there are densely populated too. That's why Mainland has the biggest numbers. God punish this hopeless government It’s irrelevant, because Covid is NOT an airborne virus... The only way location would be a factor is if there’s a public market inside the IDH. > |

. I am not sure why so many seem surprised that the more tests you conduct, the more positives you are likely to end up with... It’s the trend globally, so no reason to believe it’ll be different with Nigeria, but the raw numbers are not particularly informative.
The NCDC are probably testing more people daily now than they were testing weekly before... Accordingly, the more informative figures will be the RATE of infection - that is, number of positives relative to number tested.
When the testing numbers are published on Friday, it’d give us a much better picture. If NCDC tests 5-10K persons this week (goal is 1.5-2K tests daily), and ends up with 4-500 positives, it’s better than when they were testing 100 daily and ending up with 20 positives. > |

And many of you who have contributed and are still contributing in governing got foreign education/course (civil and military) from the UK, US and other European countries. Why is it that Nigeria is still underdeveloped? Do you guys learn things that are different from what the white folks learnt? How can someone who read law, history, sociology abroad falter in governance? Or, are you guys just wicked? While I understand these sort of sentiments, they are ultimately delusional... Nigeria’s salvation lies IN NIGERIA and primarily in the hands of NIGERIANS IN NIGERIA! From personal experience, there’s only so much any Returnee can do in the midst of Nigeria’s largely “Oga, manage am” attitude... There’s only so much a (eg) world-class architect/builder can do with her plans/straight lines if the mason/artisan is ill-equipped to concretize it. Meaningful development is from the BOTTOM-UP, not imposed from top-down. That’s where Nigeria’s leaders primarily fail. > |

AreaFada2: My only problem is that these officials become dishonest. Or maybe they have been so privileged that they are totally disconnected from reality of the masses.
Take the brilliant Onyeama for example. Since 1985, he said he spent 30 years abroad. Out of the last 35 years o.
Then you return to Abuja to live in a sumptuous environment and travel abroad as foreign minister often.
Even those that live locally, after rising up the ranks, they become totally disconnected.
If they can't see that 90% of the people are struggling, who will lead reform? They hold the power, control state resources, apparatus of state and in league with the economic elite. Abegi don’t jump to generalized stereotypes... Onyeama was always a regular visitor well-versed in his rural community of Eke-Udi. His grandfather was the local chief...
