fortran12: So you prefer chaos over facing a challenge? Am sure there is an African country without a single case cos they have not bothered to test and am sure you have not heard that everyone there died. Just wait till the pandemic is over and you will hear revelations and how people over hyped the virus just as they did during the y2k bug period
Nope, prefer sound health over facing health challenges... The reality of Covid-19 is that EVERYONE is making it up as they go along.
But why would you adopt Sweden’s policy... When the outcome is almost TEN TIMES WORSE than their neighbors? >
quentin06: so how do explain those who tested positive, were quarantined and subsequently discharged?
don't you read the stats?
why the clamp down on hospitals treating convid patients? abi are they afraid of a cure?
your argument is baseless.
You didn’t understand what I just wrote? Their specific symptoms are managed until their immune systems develop antibodies that rid their bodies of the virus.
Meanwhile, they are “clamping down” on hospitals without proper isolation facilities... Because such hospitals are putting other patients at risk, as well as their workers and by extension the workers’ families and the general public. >
Mobi47: These Chinese doctors wants to deal with us, the way they are mutating and mixing up covid 19 with other disease especially in the USA. Nigeria's Govt biggest mistake is the invitation of Chinese doctors into Nigeria. That's our biggest mistake, don't ever trust the Chinese people. Every countries around the world is against China presently but our foolish govt with no direction, invited them. Our doctors were in charge of the situation prior to the arrival of the Chinese guys but now, our doctors don't even know what they are facing. This govt no get sense at all, see how Good luck Jonathan's govt dealt with Ebola in just 2-4 weeks.
Many Nigerian doctors have come out to say they have a cure, but our stupid govt has been ignoring this doctors claims, instead of working with them. Was this not how the GEJ govt allied with Nigerian doctors and came up with a cure for Ebola even when WHO and The US said we must not use the cure with discovered... but the GEJ govt used it anyways and cured everyone.
This stupid govt, instead of allying with doctors, make research and discover our own cure (we have the herbs and everything we need for a cure) they are busy following the suggested cure from the Chinese so called doctors who came with ulterior motives and also waiting for recommendations and vaccine from the so called WHO which has strictly been criticized for not revealing vital information on how to manage covid 19.
Now the virus is killing people anyhow in Nigeria and we now have over 900 cases. This govt is too weak and lacks direction....na only God go help us.
ThierryJay: I pity all those insinuating that COVID 19 is a scam in Nigeria because people you know are not dying yet. Don't worry e go soon clear for una eyes.
With the way people have not been taking precautions here in Nigeria, it's a no brainer that it's going to spread widely. Whatever NCDC stands to gain financially does not stop people from infecting one another.
If it's real in Ghana, in South Africa, in Egypt, in Burkina Faso, why wouldn't it be real in Nigeria? Are all of these countries scammers too? Including their European counterparts?
The billions of grant being claimed to be received by NCDC and embezzled, Nigeria has lost several multiples of that amount in revenue from unproductivity due to lockdown. So will you, as a rational perso,n shut down your personal business that gives you N10million a month, in order to receive a 500thousand Naira handout from good Samaritans? I'm struggling to understand the level of gross stupidity at play here
Health is wealth apparently has no meaning in Nigeria...
kevotek1000: They keep giving us figures... While are the western world is giving us insights and even the happenings in hospitals. In Nigeria no documentary or whatsoever of Coronavirus patients or the testing process except for the nocturnal figures they always make us believe. It's a crazy country down here, been on lock down with no support or palliatives for it's citizens.
Why do you people have such a ghoulish obsession with seeing dying people? Anyway, doubtful that anyone will let you or the press into an ICU in Nigeria (thankfully so).
Auxilliarytony: Everything about Nigeria is #audio. Why can't we be straight for once. Imagine they are still recording 2 cases for Enugu and 1 for Anambra whereas the government of these states have discharged them and currently there is no confirmed case in these states. NIGERIA WHY?
Discharged cases are still included in positive cases... They will however not be counted among “active” cases. >
fortran12: So at what point should the lock down be lifted when you know that locking down has economic impact, why should the whole nation suffer because of a few people. There are better ways to treat this, there are some countries that managed the situation without a lock down, Sweden and S. Korea, even the Ghana lock down was 3 weeks and the country used the period to study and analyse the best way to tackle the virus. Nigeria's lock down has no strategy
When the rate (not necessarily number) of infection start to flatten or bend downwards...
South Korea had a partial lockdown (it closed down high-risk facilities and banned religious, spirts and entertainment events), in addition to social distancing. Even then, there’s been a recent uptick in new cases in Korea, as well as so-called “re-infections”. Meanwhile, Ghana only literally just lifted its lockdown, and only the passage of time will determine if there’s a new spike of infections or if it’s a good decision.
Suffice it to note that Sweden suffered almost TEN TIMES AS MUCH Covid deaths than its locked-down neighboring countries. >
mrkings84: I PRAY LET THIS NIGERIA VERSION OF THIS VIRUSVJUST END LIKE THIS. ONLY AUDIO FIGURES WITHOUT HAVING TO KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS CONTACTED THE VIRUS PHYSICALLY.
CAUSE SHOULD THE REAL VIRUS ENTER NIGERIA, NCDC WONT BE ABLE TO KEEP THE FIGURES ANYMORE.
Seawhy: It is regrettable that covid 19 is increasing on daily basis in Nigeria, instead of decreasing. The question that comes to mind is, why increasing instead of decreasing?. The answer is that Nigeria has more carrier of covid 19 cases than is tested. Based on ncdc, about 4000 Nigerians are being tested daily. Now, with this rate, when can we achieve testing of Nigerians with a population of about 200million people. For Nigeria to achieve this, there's the need to take this to local government areas. At least one general hospital should be equipped to handle covid 19 issue, This will definitely go a long way in reducing the spreed of this pandemic. Another important thing to look at is the treatment being metted on covid 19 patients. Recall that the Anambra index case complained about how he was dumped in one of the hospitals, no food and no treatment. Any case that hears about this, will prefer to even die in his house than to come and suffer in a government hospital. With the assistance from international communities, we can achieve a better health care in this country, Nigeria.
We are NEVER going to test all 200 million (estimated) Nigerians... NO COUNTRY plans to (even if they have the capacity) to test all of their citizens.
The numbers are increasing because the tests are increasing... What’s crucial is not necessarily the raw numbers but the RATE of infection. >
Damexlacazette: All dis na fake news jare. Yesterday it was 873 cases now dis morning again 981. How come All dis na fake news jare. Yesterday it was 873 cases now dis morning again 981. How come
No, on Wednesday night (11.25 pm) it was 873... On Thursday night (11.30 pm), it has grown to 981.
On Friday night, new figures will be released... And this time, along with the number of tests conducted. >
Chapii: you are very correct but mind you Atiku's son did not infect Bauchi Governor, he was lying. He travelled outside the country he did not disclose it. How will Atiku's son leave all his household coupled with hundreds of people he met and infect someone that just shook hands with him on a plane. Guy be wise
Because it’s not everyone that an infected person meets or shared space with gets infected... The Covid-19 virus is not airborne (as evidence shows thus far), but is transmitted through droplets.
Of the 179 contacts made in Ogun and Lagos by the Italian index case... Only 1 of those contacts got infected (and he never developed symptoms). >
56michael: I think am beginning to smell something fishy here,we be been seen d rise of of covid case day by day,plz were are the hospitalized covid-19 patience, all other countries, patiences are seen and how they are been treated, but here we only hear we can't see
Go to IDH Yaba and to the Onikan Isolation Center (Mobolaji Johnson Arena)... A friend of mine said anyone who really wants to check out the facilities can do the needful - get infected! >
wink2015: I am in support of your suggestion that the lockdown should be relaxed.
Let Nigerians resume their daily jobs and businesses while the rest safety measures is still enforced.
LOCKING DOWN NIGERIANS UNDER THE PRETEXT OF CURBING DOWN THE CORONAVIRUS SPREAD IS VIOLATION OF THEIR DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS.
President Buhari failed to seek the approval of the national assembly before locking down Lagos state, Ogun state and the FCT Abuja.
Lets Nigerians have the choice to remain indoor or to go out.
It is so unfortunate that democratically elected governors are promoting military styled dictatorship just because they want to embezzle WHO funds that will subsequently be paid to membership countries.
It is so laughable that government in Nigeria that does not care whether the common man exist are the one claiming to be concerned about our welfare and well-being health wise.
NA WORLD HEALTH MONEY DEY THEIR THROATS.
NO, it is not...
Your right ENDS when/where it infringes on the rights of others... So while you may wish to risk your life and your family’s, you cannot risk the general population’s. >
seunfly: Thank God we have few sensible youth like u in Nigeria. I always wonder if people are educated and if people's brain works perfectly, they just make wrong claim boldly and nairaland that is supposed to remove comments like this to prevent misinformation will not do anything about it.
I know many people who suspected they have it and are treating themselve at home.
That’s why I often say that Nigerians are the WORST thing to happen to Nigeria...smh >
akinnawo004: I don't see the figure coming down with the nature of our testing capacity, the govt is not trying at all at least for like 28days now they should conduct test for over 20,000 people. The govt is just playing us so as to use the medium to siphon money. May God save us from the mess
Nigeria tested only 5000 in about the first 5 or 6 weeks... But has tested about 5000 over the past week, so testing is ramping-up. <
wink2015: Nigeria is not in a military dictatorship.
What is the essence of democracy.
What have the federal government done to curb equally dangerous diseases like hepatitis B, Aids, typhoid, malaria etc
Would a lockdown slow down those diseases? Why are you comparing Apples with Agbalumo, when each disease is treated as appropriate for it?
Reality is that there is no cure or vaccine for Covid-19... The smart fight is to slow it down so that it does not completely overwhelm our rickety healthcare system. >
emeernest: Yes, but if the cases are far above 987, can you explain why people are not falling sick or dying everywhere. Because they say the virus takes about 14days to manifest and we have been on lockdown for much longer.
People will NOT be “falling sick or dying everywhere” because over 80% of positive cases will have mild, moderate or no symptoms at all... >
dadexcel: My brother your on point . In fact just look at the kano cases for instance ; kano as at last week climbed from 1 case to 39 cases or so in a space of one week .
Now that same kano with all the increase disobedience to social distancing and several reported "deaths" have not had any case in the past two days ....something is very fishy here ....I tell you
The testing lab in Kano has been temporarily closed down for decontamination... Samples collected in Kano has not been tested for the last couple of days, and thus no results therefrom. >
Dchameleon12345: Dont be deceive cox nt all the cases are truely covid-19 90 percent of them are from other illnes such as malaria, typhoid nd fever etc bt I pray let the devil nt use this as an oportunity to manipulate his evil power cox they said the devil act with what men fear so as to make them lose their attention nd faith in GOD. It is well
Covid’s viral DNA is distinct... There’s NO WAY a molecular test would mistake malaria or typhoid for Covid-19. >
neyorlmogzy: I think the number of cases is a thousand times more than this, their are no kits to test people, the death toll is also way more than what is been written. The hospital I work in is the base of isolation in FCT, infected ones are dying, and it's not reflecting on NCDC statistics. China has already set presidence for reporting fake death toll, other countries are just following suit
Onyxnaija: Your conclusion is accurate. The death toll from COVID-19 in Nigeria and many countries is being grossly under reported. If you think that the number of people infected in Nigeria is less than 1000, then please wake up. It’ll be at least 10,000 infected cases and counting.
Testing is almost non-existent. A country of over 200 million and number of tests done till date is still under 10,000. The sooner people obey the social distancing and hand hygiene recommendations the earlier the curve will be flattened. Until then, this pandemic will take a lot of precious lives and maim even more.
Many people who recover from this terrible disease end up with residual cardiovascular, kidney or lung disease. COVID-19 is no joke! Do everything within your powers to prevent it. May God help us as we help ourselves.
Covid’s morbidity is caused by respiratory failure... You simply cannot hide extreme Covid-19 cases and fatalities - unless you are actively seeking to do so.
Let’s not attribute every death atm in Nigeria to Covid... We still have other pathogens and parasites that are killing folks in Nigeria - Lassa fever, acute malaria, etc. >
tgirlblaze: The death rate is fu***ing high kilode...as it is im not sure people are been given the best and adequate care they needed. Dnt even say they are vulnerable or have underlying health issues, if someone like seyi makinde (51) and el rufia can survive it ( dat im sure they wld v one or two health issues) then they is something wrong..are the common man been given oxygen and ventillators to aid their breathing Or is the few inadequate ventilators been reserved for our corrupt politicians and high class? Does the common man has the same opportunity as our leaders? Are they given equal or best treatment or are they just left to their fate? C'mon we see the ways the european nurses and doctors are treating and giving their all best to each and evryone of their patient...can we say the same to my BELOVED COUNTRY? Our healthcare system is yet overwhelmed and we are recording this much death...if its overwhelmed nko, that means we wld be recording like 5k death per day! This is not just so FREAKING RIGHT ASWEAR!
BAZ001: This is nigeria d rich will always have preferencial treatment while poor will be struggling to even get attention. That's why I pity the common poor men that are saying hunger wants to kill them at home so they are on the street looking for food.
Na d poor suppose go hide for house till all is gone , yet na d rich dey house d poor dey street.
Do actually understand what is meant by “underlying health issues”? Cancer and diabetes (like ex-PPMC MD Achimugu), heart disease, kidney or liver issues, etc.
These are conditions that can kill you of themselves... Meanwhile, what’s the difference in “class” between EI-Rufai, Makinde and Abba Kyari?
The reality is although Nigeria now has 31 fatalities... The overwhelming majority (over 90%) of positive cases would recover - rich, poor or middle class! >
reservd: Cases keep rising despite lock down and the economy keeps suffering, it seems not to be working. I guess we learn how to live with this virus. A time will come wen continuous staying at home will be unrealistic
AIT1: I'm starting to have a rethink as regards this Covid19 cases in Nigeria. It is either the government is over- reporting or under-reporting this cases. I'm not convinced they are sincere with the figures, I might be wrong though.
But this is my take:
The Corona Virus in Nigeria is not as Lethal as we were made to believe. The late Abba Kyari came back to Nigeria March 14 and was diagnosed of the disease March 24, he attended several conferences, APC meetings and also led a delegation to the Kogi state Governor to greet him for the demise of his Mother amongst other things he did Within the 10 days.
Now, no single person was infected by the Late COS from the records, and the only record we have of someone infecting another person is Atiku son that infected the Bauchi Governor.
Hence, I believe all this hullabaloo about the spread of the disease here is weak. We've been on lockdown for about 25 days and we have barely tested 10,000 persons. It's obvious the government is not ready to do mass testing and the cases reported kept rising, so of what use is the Lockdown? What's the objectives of the Total Lockdown?
The government just need to devise any other mechanism for curbing this disease; a total lockdown cannot be sustained.
We were told the virus symptoms and it's complications will start showing after 14 days, since we've been at home how many people has fallen ill suddenly or died unexpectedly in each of our areas across the country. All of us sha can never be asymptomatic.
If they want to share the money, they should go and share it, they should leave us to go and continue our hustle. We are not able to sleep at night, vigilante up and down.
My Verdict: The lockdown should be partial, people can move around with facemask and any other thing to protect themselves. Schools, mosques, churches can still hold on. People are broke and hunger is real!
Some of you folks will never get it... Let’s just hope Covid-19 doesn’t go “viral” in Nigeria. SMH >
fortran12: If you say lock down, people stay in their houses, how are you sure they are distancing themselves? What if people are allowed to have the virus and develop immunity as some people have already, then use their anti bodies to create a vaccine
Social distancing is substantively different mere physical distancing.... Nobody expects spouses or members of the same family to physically distance themselves. >
fortran12: The point is that its a communicable disease, you cant erradicate until a cure is found, and most people who have it will get well. A lot of people get well without medication
Again, the point of the lockdown is NOT eradication but reduction...
EVERY positive case, whether symptomatic, mild, moderate or none at all, still has to be isolated... So, even if the extreme cases are less than 10%, healthcare facilities will be overstretched by sheer numbers. >
Ghostmode2two: This is how you people pledged your future for voting in politicians that gave you 3 slices of bread groundnut and pure water during an election.
While you merely bent over.... But we are all stuck in Nigeria together. >
I am not into politics, and I dont support any party either PDP or APC but always be sincere to yourself because whatever you sow today your kids and grand kids will reap it tomorrow.
Don't be clouded by the meagre allowance you you get from politicians today through your online defense for them.
If you and I don't say the truth today our kids will see the effect tomorrow.
9jaRealist: While I think both PDP and APC are 2 sides of a rotten coin... Things were certainly economically much better under Jonathan than under Buhari.
Now, we can have a rational debate as to the reasons why... But NOT about factual reality - from one of world’s fastest growing economies to world capital of extreme poverty! >
9jaRealist: Bros, the hardest working person in Lagos today has to be Sanwo-Olu’s official PHOTOGRAPHER...
