Bigleaf1006:I will ignore the personal insult... It merely betrays a lack of substance and a crude personal upbringing. Meanwhile, on the SUBSTANCE of the matter under discourse... Yes, the “argument in favor of the lockdown” is to slow down the infection rate, so that it does not overwhelm the healthcare system. > |
Bigleaf1006:They are in state government morgues... > |
Chikelue2000: gabicon:This is a football game in Kano THIS WEEK in the midst of the Covid pandemic... https://i2.wp.com/phcityhype.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/kano-residents-defy-social-distancing-to-see-football-match-1.png?w=902&ssl=1 > |
> More than 12 people die in 12 hours every day in Kano... The only reason this is news is the so-called “prominence” of these folks. But look at the lack of social distancing at even these funerals...SMH ![]() www.nairaland.com/attachments/11420568_943567159211996916612462438127434994810880o_jpeg0e0d013e3c250d7f7367376ec95475fb > |
bobo65:Nope! It’s NOT a “total failure”... Because it’s goal was to save lives by slowing down the rate of Covid infections, not to solve hunger in Nigeria. Of course we should feel empathy for the hungry and desperate, but with or without Covid there will still be people who are hungry and desperate. Nonetheless, one of the certainties in life is that only people who are ALIVE can be hungry. > |
Bigleaf1006:You mean that before New York started putting dead bodies in refrigerated trucks and burying them in mass graves out on Hart Island, New Yorkers held a town hall and a referendum of its citizens? Emergency situations call for exigent solutions. > |

erico2k2:Literally their lives... The reason for long clinical trials is to adequately study the effects (including possibly dangerous side effects) of drugs. Better safe than sorry. > |
erico2k2:Not if it is coming a year after you have the problem (assuming it even works)... By definition, a preventative procedure is carried out BEFORE a problem arises, not a year later. ![]() A vaccine next year is NOT prevention for a population CURRENTLY at risk, while Lockdown/Distancing is... Many people who lives could easily be spared by a lockdown and social distancing would die before any vaccine. Btw, you seem to have this misguided notion that every clinical trial results in an efficacious remedy... When medical history is replete with failures (including the disastrous Pfizer meningitis drug trials in Kano). > |
Papadoh:Is it that you think that only Covid kills people in Lagos? Or that you do not realize that many bodies in the mortuary pre-dated Covid? Anyway, if you had been assed to read the news story you would have found your answer. > |
CoronaV:If they are NOT going to extend the lockdown (and I personally suspect they will NOT)... Let it be on the basis of sound medical reasons, not because our people want to do Owambe funerals. Muslims bury within 24 hours while most Westerners bury within a week... You can bury someone immediately with a simple ceremony, and elaborately celebrate their lives later. > |
. Lucky Sperm Club... The Accident of Birth. Call it whatever you may, but this is a reaffirmation that being born in the “right” country at the “right” time can sometimes be half the journey, but that YOU as an INDIVIDUAL still have to work hard enough or have the vision or intuition to take advantage of opportunities that you neither created nor earned. CONGRATULATIONS to the dude. He embodies that thin line between wacko and wiz! > |
erico2k2:Strawman Argument... How does saying there's presently no cure or vaccine and thus we should isolate/social distance equate to advocacy for doing nothing? You are placing your entire faith on something AT BEST might (or might NOT) help by next year rather than do something NOW to help ourselves. Since you apparently like cliched sayings... Here another one: PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE! > |
dangermouse:Nigerians are the WORST thing to happen to Nigeria! Look at the Okada dude on the left below (in the red shirt).... He thinks he's the "smartest" dude in Lagos - until he gets run over (and then his Okada pals will try to lynch someone). SmallmebigGod:Well said! While the government carries a lot of the blame/responsibility... Nonetheless, Nigeria's condition is the culmination of the acts (by commission or omission) of ALL Nigerians! SmallmebigGod:Well said... Often, government is only a manifestation of the prevalent values of the population. > |
dangermouse:Let's call a spade a spade.... These are CRIMINALS, not hungry men. > |

fortran12:We can try... But of course the reality is we don’t have their testing capacity (not even the US or the UK does)... South Korea suffered gravely from its previous coronavirus (SARS) outbreak and built an entire infrastructure on that experience. > |
Kingjay007:Exactly! This week in Kano... ![]() https://i2.wp.com/phcityhype.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/kano-residents-defy-social-distancing-to-see-football-match-1.png?w=902&ssl=1 While police has arrested the footballers... That crowd was a veritable petri dish for Covid-19! > |
erico2k2:So? You could also go to the local herbalist if you want... The point is that a trial does not equate to a cure or a vaccine. > |
