kuuljay: is the king not a public servant too? Somebody who pays your salary and has the power to sack you is your boss no matter how you color it Nope! The king is a monarch (ie, a sovereign entity)... However, I agree with SOME (not all) of the second part of your post (and said so in one of my posts above). Sadly, that’s the misguided position that we have collectively placed ourselves because while personally I do not care all of these traditional rulers springing up in every nook and cranny of our nation (the very concept of these traditional monarchies being inimical to democratic ethos and an egalitarian society), I nonetheless believe that communities that desire to retain these institutions as a harbinger (and as promoters/custodians) of our indigenous cultures and traditions should contribute and pay for it themselves without any reliance/demand on the public (government) treasury. Having said however, the Governor is not paying the king’s salaries from his own personal purse. Rather, he is paying him from the state’s (government) treasury on behalf of the state and as a trustee of state funds. Accordingly, he is NOT the personal “boss” of the traditional ruler. |

Maybe I missed someone that raised it.
Can that happen in China with American, British or Japanese money? Going by the crude and backward ethnicity-riven drivel being spewed on here... Most likely that many here would rather partner with Martian aliens than other Nigerians. Nonetheless, I personally have no qualms with foreigners (Chinese or anyone else) bringing in money, taking an equity risk and profiting therefrom if the risks succeeds and yields a return. There was nothing precluding Nigerians from taking the same risks and making the same investment. So why get our panties in a twist now that foreigners have seen an opportunity that has been sitting there all along while we were busy building megachurches and flying around in private jets? After all, if the investment tanks those foreigners lose their equity investment. Anyway, Nigerians should not be such economic xenophobes given that millions of us earn a living and own businesses across the globe! |

Many of your ignorant ilk here say that Nnewi is more industrialised than the average South Western state. However, when IGR statistics are released, the entire Anambra and Enugu states struggle to match a single Local Government in Lagos, eg. Ifako Ijaiye Local Government or Alimosho Local Government in Lagos.
It is either the snall scale firms in Nnewi are overestimated and over-valued, or they are run by criminals who evade tax. Or doesn't common sense tell you that if indeed Igbos are behind the tax figures in Lagos, Igbo businesses are also responsible for the mediocre figures in the East?
Your states have some of the lowest IGR rates in the entire country and it is a shame that the empty unproductive barrels make the most noise. Again with the CHILDISH personal insults... Fortunately, I was raised better and thus won’t join you in that gutter. Now to the substantive matter at hand, I could not possibly have argued that Nnewi is more industrialized than anywhere (in the Southwest or elsewhere), not least because I have NEVER been to Nnewi (nor indeed anywhere else in the Southeast) and frankly do not have any reliable data on industries in that part of Nigeria - nor frankly any part of Nigeria outside of Agbara and Otta (and of course Lagos). I made a LIMITED point (highlighting only the part of your post that I was addressing), which was that Ibos most likely “contribute” to the IGR of Ogun State (while noting that we would never know for certain), and gave the FACTUAL basis for that conclusion. You may have an aversion for FACTS but they are what they are. As for your CHILDISH and crude ethnicity-riven vitriol, they are like a-holes - when uncovered they tend to stink. . |

Hotfreezer: Keep hiding behind one finger.
You say you don't know if Igbos are the ones contributing to the IGR of Ogun state, abi?
Are there more Igbos resident and doing business in Ogun state than the entire SE?
Why then does Ogun's IGR dwarf the entire SE? Sorry, but I have no desire to prolong these frankly childish, backward and crude ethnicity arguments... I will limit myself to the FACTUAL assertions that I made that we would not know, because taxes are paid wherever taxpayers are resident and/or doing business - added to the FACT the tax authorities do not collect data on the ethnicity of taxpayers (thankfully so). Furthermore, IGR is not just limited to income taxes, and accordingly there are myriad other levies and charges that are paid by the many corporations (clustered primarily around Agbara and Otta) in Ogun State, several of which could well be owned by Ibos (eg, Beloxxi Industries Ltd.) or employ Ibos who pay local taxes/VAT. Thus, yet again, as your question is/was whether Ibos are "contributing" to the IGR of Ogun State, the answer is most likely YES! But the FACT is that we would not really know (not least because ethnicity is largely IRRELEVANT data to the tax authorities). . |

Hotfreezer: Which Igbos?
Mention a single Igbo state with IGR up to one-fifth of Ogun state. Or Igbos are the ones contributing taxes in Ogun state too?
See, Igbos are always bitter when good things come to other people. Bring a project to the SW, they cry. Take it to the North, na cry. Take it to the SS, they insult SS that they are foolish for allowing the APC deceive them.
Look at how Igbos insult SE leaders that try to reach out. Umahi, Rochas, Kalu, Obiano, etc are routinely insulted. It is blockheaded leaders like Ikpeazu that they like.
That is why the SE has become what it is today. The reality is that we would not know, since taxes are paid where the taxpayer is resident/doing business and not in the state of origin... |

It need a willing government that will like to develop the entire Nigeria like South Africa is doing in their country. They may like to do it but FG will block it through greedy west.
South Africa have six standard ports, if you live in Capetown you don't need to go all the way to Durban to clear your goods. If Nigeria is serious country that want to provide job to the youth, somebody that live in Aba dont need to go to lagos to clear his goods where there is Calabar, PH or Onitsha that is nearby. The same with someone in Kano and other part of the north, you clear your goods in Kaduna port. Goods are shipped to the ports where the importer wants it shipped, do not blame the government... BTW, if commercially viable, goods can also be landed in Lagos on big oceanliners and then re-shipped to various other ports in smaller vessels. |

neyobills: Q: Are machine guns / suppressors / short-barreled firearms, etc. legal in the state of Texas? A: Yes. All NFA rules apply. See this FAQ for more info regarding Class III / Title II items.
Q: Are “assault weapons” banned in Texas? A: No. Texas abides by Federal law which at this time has no restrictions on so-called “assault weapons” such as semi-auto AR15, FAL, G3 / HK91 rifles.
From a reliable source so contrary to your opinion its legal to carry assault rifles as well not only pistols.
Any idea why they would rather prefer pistols?
In the paddock saga the hotel was breached by SWAT teams and i rightly gave exceptions for tactical teams in my narration earlier. First, I said "most" but yes - because pistols are easier for "gangsters" to tuck into the waistband and/or carry around... When going to rob a liquor store or carrying "protection" around the hood, most gangsters would not be logging assault rifles! |

Even the most ruthless armed robbers in Nigeria are toy soldiers compared to gangsters in say Houston Texas, guess why, they have better guns than kalashinkovs yet the cops there still use pistols.
I hope u know there are automatic pistols that use the same or perhaps bigger bullets than the kalashinkovs and they are more handy.

Will this be the last time the bunch of criminals you give guns and live rounds will attack and maul innocent citizens?? I'm saying this, this shit keeps happening, and the government won't see this as a serious issue until the youths of this country start fighting back, attacking and killing officers of the law who they deem guilty also, when this shît will spiral out of control and these officials start facing the sharp edge of the sword, that's the time this sickening Govt will know how serious this is. You forget yes them dey hold gun and work for the govt, but man can only bear and handle frustration for a while, wait until the youths breaks and damn every law... una dey fool unaxevs for upstairs there wey una dey so The course of justice has to start somewhere - and these arrests are a GOOD start!Let’s keep a keen eye on them (and if necessary hold their feet to the fire) to ensure that this start is properly followed-up and that due justice is ultimately (and hopefully, timely) served. Nonetheless, policemen have severally been arrested, prosecuted and jailed (even sentenced to death) for extra-judicial killings in Nigeria. Thus, I am not as pessimistic as some of the commenters regarding the ultimate outcome here. . |

This doesn't change the fact that hundred of thousands of police still roam our streets with a war grade assualt rifle. Civil law enforcement agency don't go around town with military grade weapons with 30. Live rounds.
You don't give an underfunded half baked police without constant shooting range training, or alcohol and psychological evaluation such assault weapons and not expect a missfire or "straybullet". I am fully against police recklessness and extra-judicial killings, and for better force discipline and training, but NA CONDITION MAKE CRAYFISH BEND...The raw reality is that Nigeria Police is NOT engaged in “civil law enforcement” but rather in a virtual civil WAR against often better-armed and bloodthirsty bandits. Already, we massively underpay the Police for the risk they are placed on a daily basis on our collective behalf and subject them and their families to the most inhumane living and working conditions in filthy, dilapidated slum-like “barracks” and often transfer them with little or no notice to different states and locations often without provisions for basic accommodations and so forth. The solution to the myriad issues of the Nigeria Police is long-term, starting with better recruiting, better training, and better conditions of service (including pay). We cannot scrape the bottom of the barrel for the least educated and enlightened segment of our population, subject them to slave-like conditions, give them guns to “protect” a population that largely scorns them, and then profess shock and outrage at the results. Meanwhile, without murderous cults and bloodthirsty kidnappers and armed robbers, there would have been no SARS.. |
