Katsumoto: Again football is a team sport. Rio has done it for club and country as well but Germany is a much better footballing nation than England and as such, Boateng will win more national trophies than Rio. Forget about trophies for now; Rio and Boateng are not mates. You are a Bayern supporter and probably biased. Apart from Bayern fans, Boateng is not heralded as one of the best defenders in the world; Rio was during his prime.
At what tournament did Rio do it for country? By all means pa mi lerin.

That Germany is a much better footballing nation is besides the point but inadvertently proves all I have been saying all along that EPL and its products are overhyped and overrated! Its not enough to hold pre-conceived notions when evidence and events keeps proving the contrary. Trophies matter that is why competitions are held and it is from performances in these tournaments that form opinion about who is hot and who is not

I have lost count of overhyped EPL players who were heralded as the best in the World not in this life was Ferdinand World class. Till lately EPL fans and analysts in general would tell you Evra and Ashley Cole are better than Lahm and only the enlightened few would dare challenge such notion this is part of what we are saying. The way 'world class' gets loosely thrown around you begin to wonder if the meaning is not lost in the crowd

Katsumoto: A-40

Football is a team sport. So there are times when great players don't get to win and useless players get to win. Djimi Traore has a ECL medal while Ronaldo has none. Boateng, whom I like, has won more global titles than Rio but that doesn't make Boateng better than Rio.
Who are these useless players? These things even out at the end of the day. Djimi Traore won a CL medal and vanished from the face of the earth the next season.

Ronaldo De Lima scored over 60 goals for his country was the World Cup all-time highest scorer till recently and also has a World Cup and Golden Ball to his name. I think your comparison is a stretch

Boa-TANK is better than Rio he has proven this for club and country already! Forget the old cliche and urban legend the English press and fans stay trying to gas themselves and players. They are painfully average and this has been exposed too many times before in International football
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by A40(m): 7:17pm On Jul 20, 2014
barackohandso: Good! As relative as the word might mean in a given context, what criterion are you using as your basis for this comparison, trophies? Cos ferdinand has got a whole lot of them. At his age and current form, Boateng will do better, but not until. If Boateng retires today, do you A40 consider him a bayern legend? Same goes for Rio. Haba! Give honor na
At club level there is nothing Rio has won that Boa-TANK has not won. At International level the gulf gets even wider! When we add Boa-TANK's ability to rise up to the challenge in big games you can see that it is a mismatch comparing him to amugbo

If a player that helped his club win the UCL and his country win a World Cup is not a legend then who is a legend? Chale its not till you play for 1000 years at a club before you become a legend. Obviously at Bayern you need more than a few league titles to call yourself a legend but for a 25 year old Boateng's achievements no be sere kambia

SIRcumalot: @A40
Ferdinand can't be less than Pure Class to play a major part in the CB pairing that lasted so long and won Utd so many titles. Sure it easy to look at Rio at his twilight and rubbish his achievement but before you forget SAF broke the Transfer price for Defenders for this guy.
A CB pairing where he was outshone by Vidic? Forget the hype Rio leeched on the brilliance of his teammates!

Dude is 36 played in a couple of World Cups n Euros and did zilch!

PSG also broke the transfer price record for David Luiz. Lescott cost the same amount Robben cost us and Adam Lallana cost more than Schuerrle I don't judge a player by the transfer fee slammed on them
SIRcumalot: We'll see if our relevant Boateng in the next few years.
Ron Vlaar is one of the best defenders of this world cup I think he stopped Messi too why aren't people comparing him to Thiago Silva already ?
Ron Vlaar? Lol dude plays for freaking Aston Villa. Come on bruh how can you compare him to the Boa-TANK who has won everything at club level as well?

I agree Boateng his the flavour of the month hopefully he milks all the attention at get more money but he hasn't reached Ferdinand Prime
That game was lost purely on Pep's rubbish tactics! You saw how Ronaldo got destroyed by the Boa-TANK at the World Cup and how Robben turned Ramos and Casillas to the subject of endless internet jokes and memes

English players largely leech off the brilliance of their international teammates in the league little wonder they get horribly exposed in International tournaments. Ferdinand for all his hype has failed to light up any major tournament at any stage of his career even in his so-called prime and we can say that for just about 95% of other English talent. They will not win anything anytime soon unless fans stop hyping these average Joes to the high heavens

You keep going on about how well Boateng plays in finals but you seem(or chose) to forget it was his fatal error that allowed Drogba to head home in the UCL final of 2011.Drogba should have never beaten him to that ball.
What fatal error? Where was Van Buyten in that play? Drogba's aerial prowess is well known and few defenders can stop him when he is on song but even at that you are the first person I would hear blame Boateng for that goal

barackohandso: You should as well know that "that a player won the WC shouldn't bring comparison with every other legendary player" like you guys are doing since Germany won the mundial. Obviously boateng is better ATM but Rio in his prime was the best in the business. Some comparisons shouldn't be made!
Legendary player? Ooh like Legend Extra Stout.

Awe, I hope you realize the word 'legend' in a football context is relative. Eg to a Southampton fan Matt Le Tissier is a legend to a Liverpool fan Robbie Fowler is god and to a Man U fan Rio Ferdinand might be a legend

I have seen crazy comparisons in my Nairaland lifetime so I am not suprised. People argued Evra and Ashley Cole were better than Phillip Lahm not too long ago even more recently others swore Rooney was better than Müller. How about Joe Cole is better than Schweinsteiger? You ought to know by now that A-40 does not follow general opinion and more often than not time usually winds up vindicating my stance

At the start of last season Dante was a bit out of shape and that allowed Boateng to step up.I was impressed and was beginning to have second thoughts about him.Alas it was a false dawn, approaching winter break Mr Alago returned to his former self.5tupid fouls, silly sending-offs,losing concentration.A leopard never changes its spots.Boateng might put in a good show every now and then(heck even Senderos has his good days) but deep down he is still that wack CB.
You can moan and groan till the apocalypse but Boa-TANK is here to stay

dayokanu: Is there any doubt about the bold? Mertersacker has been shamed out of the NT defence He has been given the role of cheerleader. If he had any self worth he would have retired

Boateng-Hummels partnership conceded 0 goals at the world cup playing against top nations like France Argentina and Brazil.

All Boateng doubters and haters have been shut up. All the face saving excuses doesnt cut again. Especially the comparison with sideshow bob jester David Playstation Luiz who cost his team at least 5 goals in the world cup.

Unless there is an injury in defence, Jogi Low knows Boateng-Hummels partnership is the truth

Lahms absence in the NT would really affect our play.

From the first game I saw him Stuttgart vs Man Utd in 3003 I knew he was destined for greatness his calm intelligent play
we would miss his sliding tackles, overlapping runs, quiet leadership, numerous assists and versatility of the "little Giant"

See as he dey battle giant Jan Koller in this video

Boateng can do a job at RB because he is versatile but his strength is at CB! Playing him at the 2 short-changes us going forward because he is not so offensive but don't allow your bad belle cover your mouth from speaking the truth. Hummels and Boa-TANK is the #1 CB pairing

Biased? I'm not the one that thinks Guardiola won Germany the World Cup.

I used to defend Guardiola till he started taking the piss and playing Lahm at DM even while Schweinsteiger and Martinez were fit! Playing with a suicidal highline and resorting to tactics that made Bayern unrecognizable from the previous all-conquering one!

Failed to step up? Anyone with functional eyes can see with the way Germany and Bayern players played at the just concluded World Cup that Guardiola's tactics were to blame! We saw how Robben destroyed Ramos and Casillas how Müller and Götze destroyed Pepe, Coentrao and Marcelo. Even Kroos that was toothless over both legs vs Madrid became Zidane vs both Portugal and Brazil

coded01: Bayern's records:

(1) Bayern have won the Bundesliga title with a record seven games to spare. The previous record was the six games left that Bayern won the title with last year.

(2) Bayern have won their last 10 away matches in the league. The old record was nine - again, set by them last season.

(3) Bayern Munich have won their last 19 games - a Bundesliga record. The previous record was 15, set by Bayern in 2005.
Bayern's 2013-14 Bundesliga record

(4) They have scored two goals or more in each of their last 19 wins - also a league record.
(5) This is Bayern Munich's 24th German (and West German) title, another record --- Pep's 1st season in charge.

(6) Bayern won 29 matches in the Bundesliga last season. The record is 29, set by them last year. Equaled a record in his 1st Season.

(7) Bayern Munich clinched the earliest league title in Bundesliga history. They took until 6 April to do it last year - the previous record.

(8.) Bayern's 27-game unbeaten run to start a Bundesliga season is also a record. Bayer Leverkusen's 24 at the start of 2009-10 was the old landmark.

(9) Bayern manager Pep Guardiola, appointed in the summer, has not lost in his first 27 matches in the Bundesliga. Kaiserslautern's Karl-Heinz Feldkamp (1978-79) had the old record with 14.

(10) Bayern Munich have not lost in 52 Bundesliga matches, a run going back to October 2012. Hamburg had the old record of 36 games unbeaten in 1982 and 1983.

(11) Games that shaped Bayern's season:
19 October 2013: Bayern 4-1 Mainz Having been held at Bayer Leverkusen the previous league game, Pep Guardiola's side came roaring back to crush Mainz. Little did their title rivals know at the time that this would be the start of a 19-match winning run that would catapult them to the title.

(12) 2 November 2013: Hoffenheim 1-2 Bayern: Bayern arrived at the Rhein-Neckar Arena trailing leaders Borussia Dortmund by two points in the table. They came from behind to win 2-1 to go one point clear. Bayern have stayed top ever since.

toba: Kroos to RealMadrid official, 6yr contract. Still think Bayern were crazy to give Ribery €12m until he's 34 but offer TKroos only €7m in his 20s
Ribery has earned his stripes! He stayed at Bayern when it was not fashionable to do so and didn't whine about money either. Ribery has done more for Bayern than Kroos ever will. €7m or €8m is fair compensation for him which is around the amount Neuer, Robben, Alaba and even Müller are earning and he is not more valuable than them. He wanted a big pay day and he's gotten it thankfully not at Bayern as it is clear from his comments while he was here and since he left that he doesn't give a shyte about the club

pkasso: Some people are still living in denial sha.I know how A40 is always going on about stats and figures so i've decided to give the Whoscored.com treatment. And who comes out top? Luiz. If Boateng supposedly had a 'better' world cup than David Luiz, how come he has a lower rating on Whoscored.com or are the guys at Opta also lying?
David Luiz:
vs Croatia -7.22
vs Mexico - 7.42
vs Cameroon - 8.28
vs Chile - 8.04
vs Colombia - 8.13
vs Germany - 6.73
vs Netherlands - 5.62
FINAL RATING:7.35.

Jerome Boateng:
vs Portugal - 7.71
vs Ghana (45) - 6.28
vs USA - 6.85
vs Algeria - 7.47
vs France - 7.36
vs Brazil - 6.6
vs Argentina - 7.92
FINAL RATING:7.18
It might also interest you to know that of all Germany defenders that started at least 6 matches, Jerome Boateng had the lowest rating.Hummels - 7.76,Lahm - 7.36,Howedes -7.24,Boateng -7.18.Even the number-crunchers at Squakwa have Luiz ahead of Boateng on their list.I've not seen the full Castrol Index list but i'm pretty sure Luiz ranks above Boateng.'Nuff said!
Its not enough to just paste stats without using them in the right context!

For starters Boateng was played out of position for the first 3 games!! He also came out at half-time for one of them! Secondly Luiz had 2 goals and 1 assist which obviously boosted his ratings significantly. It is a shame that despite scoring twice and providing an assist he is only rated at .18 higher than a defender played out of position and scoring no goals nor providing an assist! Luiz failed at his primary assignment which is why he was rated as lowly as 5.62 in a game! 5 point phucking 62
