Governor Nasir El-Rufia of Kaduna State has said, the Southern part of the country should produce Nigeria’s next president in 2023. The governor made this disclosure in an interview with the BBC Hausa service on Saturday, August 7, 2020. According to him, “The southern part of the country is supposed to produce the president come 2023; I don’t support a northerner to vie for the seat after President Muhammadu Buhari, based on Nigeria’s political arrangement." Mr. El-Rufia said this weeks after president Buhari's nephew mallan Mamman Daura, said in an interview that the presidency should by competence and not zoning. Recall that in interview granted by the elder statesman to the BBC Hausa Service, Daura said competence should be placed above zoning arrangement in the 2023 presidential election. His submission however, generated alot of critics as Afenifere and other political interest groups in the South condemned the elder statesman. The governor said, although the power shift arrangement among the various regions of the country is unconstitutional, it is, however, a political design that must be respected. “I believe that (there is) no developed country across the world that considers leadership based on where someone comes from. However, in Nigerian politics, there is an arrangement that we all believe on rotational leadership. We are aware of that, anyone who denies that is wrong,” El-Rufai said. Mr. El-Rufai noted that, although he doesn't relate with people in kaduna, where he is the governor, because they came from a particular zone, saying he work with people based on their capacity to deliver on a task given. He added that he is in support of power rotation at the National level. “In Kaduna, I don’t work with people because they came from a particular zone, rather, I work with you based on your capacity to deliver on a task given to you and your ability to keep public trust,” he said. The governor also debunked speculation that he is aspiring to be the president in 2023 saying the speculation has been there right from the time he was a minister of the FCT. “It is a baseless speculation. I don’t want to be president; only God decides someone’s future whether you like it or not, I have never shown interest for the presidency.” spurce: https://insidenaija.com.ng/2020/08/08/southern-nigeria-should-emerge-next-president-in-2023-el-rufai/

Ebonyi state governor David Umahi, has urged president Muhammadu Buhari not to sack his service Chiefs but rather increase funding and logistics to the Nigerian Army. Umahi disagreed with the members of the National Assembly over their recent call for the resignation of the nation's Service Chiefs, saying changing them is not what we need at this time when the country is facing insecurity. The Governor, who stated this during the ground-breaking ceremony of Nigeria Army Reference Hospital, Abakaliki, praised the Army for their gallantry and dedication towards securing the Territory of the Nation. According to him, the work of the Army is not an easy task, it required the cooperation of the public, adding that without information it might difficult for them to discharge their duties accurately. In his words: “I have to disagree with members of the National Assembly over their recent call for the sack of the nation’s Service Chiefs. One thing I have realized in this country is that we like change too much. We want everybody to test every seat. That is not what we need at this crucial time, the country is facing security challenges. “The Chief of Army Staff is a very big committed person, and very friendly with the civil society. “So, what these people need is cooperation, information. It is difficult for people to do everything without information. This is very important and at this stage of the change. “Whoever that is coming is going to be amendable. But I believe strongly that the decision taken by the Service Chiefs are not taken by themselves alone. “So, I will be suggesting to Mr. President not to consider removing the Service Chiefs. “But, we should increase their logistics, we should increase the funding of their armed forces. We should increase the programs that will bring information to the security agencies. “Let me thank the President for finding Ebonyi fit to site this project. Ebonyi is very lucky with the Army. We will continue to partner you we expect him, the Chief of Army Staff to Commission the internal roads we did for the Army. “The new GOC is more like a brother. Fine for hate speech was increased from N500,000 to N5 million in the amended National Broadcasting Code to deter people who are willingly to violate the provision to destabilise the country, the Federal government has said. Information and culture minister Alhaji Lai Muhammad, gave this explanation, on TVC live Programme, “This Morning”, on Friday, August 7, 2020. Recall that in 2019, president Muhammadu Buhari directed the minister to increase the fine which was later stipulated in the in the amended Broadcasting Code. “What motivated the amendment was that when the fine was N500,000 we saw the provision being violated at will because the amount was very easy to pay,” he said. He noted that some desperate people knowing fully well that their broadcast content contain hate speech will insist that the broadcast stations should go on air, while they bear the cost of the fine. According to him, those criticising the government over the increment should remember that hate speech could damaged the country. He recalled that Rwandan lost 800,000 lives to hate speech while Bosnia and Cambodia equally lost thousands of lives to the menace. He said, Nigeria is not the only country that placed sanction on hate speech, saying that some nations have more stringent provisions. “Chad has today slow down the speed of its internet service to slow down the growth of hate speech. “Iceland has a provision in its penal code against hate speech and the punishment is up to five years in jail. The sanction in Norway is up to two years imprisonment while South Africa separated hate speech from the protection their citizens can get from the constitution,” he said. Muhammad also explained that gate speach is not new, but the fact that it could be spread fast through the the social media platforms make it to be more problematic. Therefore, the minister reiterated government commitment to regulate the social media without stifling the freedom of speech. source: https://insidenaija.com.ng/2020/08/07/fg-explains-why-hate-speech-fine-was-increased-n500000-to-n5-million/

Oyedepo, speaking against the closure of churches due to COVID-19 in a church sermon, on Sunday, August 2, said why can’t the government close occult houses the same way it shut down churches. “I know the world will come to the point where we’ll say we are being fooled cause the devil that is deceiving the world, he has the capacity to deceive the whole world”, he said. “Thank God we are not fooled, Thank God we have not been fooled, Thank God he made us smarter than our enemies. Its only here they lay hands on Coronavirus patients and then walk free and heal them straight.” “Could they have asked me in person, Should we shut down the church? Can anybody ask me that question? No.. they know where to ask, they know who to call. There are many pastors like that in this country, you can’t dare them. Did you close down the occult houses? the Ogboni houses? Did you close them down? Don’t you go there yourself? “The next time anybody tries that, Fire will fall!”.
