The Federal Government said it would promptly begin evacuation of Nigerians in China following reports that it citizens in the country were being maltreated.


The Minister of forienge Affiars Geoffrey Onyeama, who made this known while addressing news men in Abuja, on Friday, said the government would ensure that about 100 Nigerians evicted from their homes and hotels by Chinese official in Guangzhou, China, would be evacuated to Nigeria soon.


According to the minister the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Zhou Pingjian, has been summoned for the second time in a week to address the issue since the report surfaced in a video.


Onyeama said African ambassadors in China as well as Nigeria ambassador to China, Ahmed Jidda, had met with the Chinese Foriegn Ministry to express their concerns over the reports. He said the Chinese government has been summoned to respect Africans fundamental human right and dignity in Guangzhou.


Chinese Government was committed to resolving the maltreatement of Nigerians and other Africans and is looking into the matter, Onyeama said.


Nigerians as seen in pictures and videos, last week, were evicted from their homes and hotels in mainland China over Coronavirus disesea.


Meanwhile, the Honourable speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, had last week met with the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria over the issue and said that the issue has been resolved between the two countries.

As part of measures to curtail the spread of the novel corona virus, Kano state government has declared a seven-day total lockdown in the state.

The state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who announced this on Tuesday, in a meeting with Islamic Scholars in the state house, said, the lockdown will take its effect from Thursday, April 16, 2020.

The governor said: "Following the outbreak of this disease, COVID-19 in Kano and the subsequent cases we recorded, Kano Government has resolved to lockdown the state for a duration of seven days, starting from Thursday 16th April.

“We want to however call on the Scholars that Kano residents should start purchasing food stuff, as that would help curtail the spread of the disease in the state.

“The lockdown would start at 10p.m, no more markets, no more gatherings and mosques.”

Although Kano state has closed it borders before now, the rising in the number of corona virus cases forced the state government to restrict movement within the state.

The number of confirmed corona virus cases in Kano state now stands at four.

President Muhammadu Buhari had extend lockdown by 14 days in Ogun, FCT and Lagos State due to rising in the number of confirmed cases corona virus in the country.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq opens up on UK returnee who died in Ilorin.


The Kwara State government on Friday said “there are no facts that UK returnee who died in Ilorin had coronavirus”.


This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, in Ilorin.


The statement noted that Kwara State had not recorded a case of COVID-19 as all the six samples of suspected cases so far tested in the state had been found negative.


The statement read: “The Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19 wishes to clarify that the State has not recorded any confirmed case of COVID-19 as of now.


All the six samples tested from Kwara have returned negative.


“The committee therefore, states that there is no fact, at this moment to support suggestions that a male patient who died on Wednesday night at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital was a COVID-19 patient.


“Findings by the Medical Advisory Subcommittee revealed that the patient and his wife arrived from the United Kingdom and reportedly came to Ilorin on March 20.


“The patient went into self-quarantine without reaching out to the government or the technical committee.


“On the 13th day of the self-quarantine, he suddenly had difficulties breathing after reportedly eating dinner and was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.


” Efforts to resuscitate him proved abortive and he was pronounced dead.


“The deceased, a Muslim, was promptly taken to Offa, his hometown, where he was interred on Thursday.


“Owing to the travel history of the deceased, all the medics who attended to him at the UITH have gone into self-quarantine.


” Similarly, family members who have had contact with the deceased and his wife have been directed to do same.


“For abundance of caution, samples have been taken from his wife and four others and results are expected in the coming days.


“The committee hereby repeats that there is no record that the UITH patient ever tested positive for the virus,’’ Ajakaye said.

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau has released another threat in response to Chadian president, Idriss Dèby, saying he would come after him.

Shekau threat came a day after Chadian president called on him to surrender or he will be killed in his hideout the same way most of his commanders were killed.

The Islamic sects leader was reacting to a huge loss suffered from the Chadian Army when they engaged them in a battle last week.

Speaking in Hausa in an audio tape of about 5 minutes, Shekau said, despite the set back the sects suffered during the war, his fighter will still fight on, he promise to gun down the president.

He further stressed that his fighter will still go after president Dèby for leading a war against the setc, saying president Dèby you are introuble.

He said, “ Today is Monday, 6th in the month of, Insha Allahu, Shaaban, the Hijrah of the prophet of Allah, from Meccah to Medinah, 1441. We believe after this introduction, we heard certain things from Chad from a certain individual named Idriss Deby.

“He came out fully dressed up with the ambition of fighting the religion of Islam, that is he wants to fight us because we said we will work for the enthronement of Islam, we are Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad.

“Our aim is to follow the tenet of the Qur'an; our aim is to follow the tenets of the prophet; our aim is to practice Islam the way the prophet of Allah left instructions before dying and handing over to knowledgeable scholars, who have also passed it down to me.

“Idris Déby, I will address you now. I am, Insha Allahu Taalla, Abubakar ibn Mohammed Shekau, the Imam of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad. I decided to send you this message quickly. Don’t think because you’ve fought battles in ignorance not according to the tenet of Islam, and today, because we said we will work for Allah, you think you will triumph over us.

He, however, consoled the troops for the heavy casualties.

“My fellow brethren, take heart and endure. This kind of thing has happened to many. They endured and Allah gave then victory.
He vowed to gun down the Chadian president, saying that, “Idriss Deby you are in trouble. Idriss Deby you are in trouble; Idriss Deby you are in trouble. You made us to be calling your name because you are fighting Allah. People of Chad, rise up."

President Dèby had led his Army to engaged the sects in an heavy battle at around the Lake Chad killing many its fighter.

Lagos state government has debunked untrue information going round on social media platforms that governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has lifted lockdown order.

This was disclosed by Gawat Jubril A. Through a post on his official twitter handle, information going round on social media platforms that governor has lifted lockdown for Easter celebration and should be disregarded totally, he said.

Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello has announced the lift of ban on religious gathering in Kogi state.

The governor disclosed this in a statement in Lokoja on Thursday, April 9, he said the ban was lifted so that people could gather during the Easter celebration .

Meanwhile, Bello urged all religious laders to put preventive and precautionary measures in place during the festive period, in various worship center so as to curtail the spread and outbreak of corona virus in the state.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control(NCDC) has debunked untrue rumour making round on social media platforms that they have spent N1 billion on SMS to educate Nigerian on COVID-19.

NCDC made untrue through the news that they have spent N1 billion on SMS, via a post on their official twitter handle on Thurday, April 9, 2020.

"The headline claiming that NCDC has spent, N1 billion on SMS to Nigerians is false": NCDC said.

NCDC said, communication through SMS is one of key part of their response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, network providers such MTN, Glo, and Airtel have provided this at no cost, in large quantity.

The People Democratic Party(PDP), presidential candidate and former Vice president, Atiku Abubakar, celebrated Nigeria’s effort which had seen 35 patients discharged after successful treatment, in the fight against COVID-19, on world health day.

Atiku made this known via a post on his official twitter handle, urged that adequate medical resources should be given to medical practitioners treating patients with the virus.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola’s mother has died of coronavirus.


This was announced by Manchester City, in a statement, on Monday, the death report of the the 82-year-old was devastating to the club and has left them in grieve, the club said.


“The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’ s mother Dolors Sala Carrio in Manresa, Barcelona, after contracting coronavirus.


“Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends”.


Guardiola had earlier donated 1 million euro to buy medical support to fight the spread of Covid-19 in his country, Spain.


He has droped a video at home as part of sensitizing the club fans urging them to stay at home.


Spain had on Monday recorded four consecutive drop in the number of covid-19 deaths with 637 deaths in a day, the lowest number in bearly two weeks. The total number of deaths recorded is now 13,505 second only to Italy.
