National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said that the rift between himself and his successor, Governor Godwin Obaseki is the “creation of people with personal interest”, describing Obaseki as his “brother”, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Oshiomhole made this declaration Monday night while receiving Obaseki, who led members of his cabinet to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival with his former boss, at his Iyamoh residence in Estako West Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting which lasted for about an hour, with our correspondent in attendance, Oshiomhole said the meeting was not unusual as he was in “constant touch” with Governor Obaseki.

According to Oshiomhole, “from time to time, we have always been meeting. It is not an unusual visit, the meeting afforded me the opportunity to meet with my brother and with people I have worked with.”

He said it was unfortunate that the media liked creating factions for their own gain.

On his part, Obaseki said that the visit to his predecessor was not unusual, saying that he decided to celebrate the Sallah with his former boss.

He said the visit was to celebrate Edo leaders just as the former APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, was celebrated by the state earlier in the day.

“There is nothing unusual about this meeting; today is Sallah and we have just finished celebrating with the former APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in Benin City, and we decided to come here to celebrate Sallah with my predecessor,” the governor said.

He added that people who think there was a rift between him and his predecessor should stop thinking.

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, has gotten a fresh appointment with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Jega was appointed Chairman, Committee on Internalisation of Admission into Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria by the Admissions body.

This comes weeks after the ex INEC boss formally joined partisan politics ahead 2023 general elections.

Igbere TV had reported that Jega joined the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) on August 3, and he was said to have been appointed to head a committee in the party.

JAMB said in its weekly bulletin obtained by Igbere TV on Monday that the Jega-led admission committee is expected to come up with strategies on international admissions, partnerships and academic programmes, as well as the promotion of foreign language programmes.

“The immediate past Chairman of INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega, has been appointed as Chairman of the Committee on Internationalisation of Admissions into Tertiary Educational Institutions in Nigeria. The committee was conceived during the 2019 Conference of Rectors, Vice-Chancellors and Presidents of African Universities in Egypt in July”, the statement partly read.

“The JAMB registrar said setting up the committee had become necessary in the view of the prevailing localisation of tertiary institutions in the country. The committee is encouraged to support tertiary institutions, particularly the universities, on how to attract foreign candidates into the Nigerian education system.

“The Jega-led committee is also charged with suggesting veritable means through which the foreign centres of JAMB can attract more candidates, especially Nigerians in the diaspora, to apply for admission in Nigerian universities”, the statement added.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, who inaugurated the committee, said its duty was to put in place the machinery to attract foreign students into Nigerian tertiary institutions, starting from the 2019/2020 academic session.

According to the bulletin, the former INEC Chairman said, “I have gone through the terms of reference underscoring the intention of the board to internationalise the nation’s universities. If this is achieved, it will improve the rating of our universities and appreciate their capacity to compete with their international counterparts.”

Igbere TV had, on Monday, reported the death of Ivorian music star, DJ Arafat. He died after a motorcycle accident in Abidjan, capital city of Ivory Coast.

The former Disk Jockey (DJ), born Ange Didier Huon, was 33 at the time of his death, reports Igbere TV.

Nigerian music star, Davido, posted a tribute to him, sharing a picture of them together.

“RIP YOROBO I LOVE YOU!”, he wrote. Arafat was considered one of the most popular Francophone artistes at the time of his death.

He issued 11 albums, mainly of “coupe-decale,” a dance music form combining choppy rhythms with hip-hop-style vocals.

Ivorian Culture Minister Maurice Kouakou Bandaman expressed his condolences and said a tribute would be organised to honour the musician.

Celebrities around the world have continued to mourn the music star, with many attributing his death to a prophesy issued by a prophetess foreseeing his death in 2018.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday, August 11, attended Eid-el-Kabir Prayers at Daura Eid ground, Katsina State, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Prof. Alpha Conde, President of Guinea; and Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk, Emir of Daura; joined the president in his prayers.

Igbere TV had previously reported that President Conde was in Nigeria to celebrate the 2019 Eid with Muhammadu Buhari.

The visiting president, Igbere TV gathered, was treated to the traditional Durbar display at the palace of Emir of Daura, where he was conferred with a traditional title by the Daura Emirates.

Both African leaders also had a special session with serving Corp members in Daura district of Katsina.

Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, has threatened to resign his priesthood by October 1, if his latest prophecy comes to nought, Igbere TV reports.

The controversial man of God had declared that “there will be heavy rain in Aso-Rock on the 1st of October because God is angry with President Muhammadu Buhari.”

A report monitored by Igbere TV, quoted Mbaka to have made the declaration while addressing his congregation in Enugu, Southeast Nigeria.

Igbere TV understands that Mbaka, who predicted President Buhari’s reelection, made this comment in reaction to Rev. Ebube Muonso, who accused him of being a fake prophet.

Muonso, whose real name is Emmanuel Chibuzo Obimma, is an Ordained Catholic Priest and Founder of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Anambra State, Nigeria.

Reacting to the allegation, Mbaka said: “I don’t have much words to say over what Ebube Mounso said about me, I’m a Prophet of God everyone knows that when I prophesy it comes to pass, and for someone to come from nowhere and question my authenticity, that person is on the blink of extinction”.

Apparently displeased by the statements credited to Rev. Mounso, the Adoration Minister prophesied that there will be darkness in the cloud over Nigeria for complete 5 hours from 12noon till 5pm on October 1, after which a massive rain with thunder will follow.

“To prove my authenticity to the world and Nigerians in general, to prove that I am really a Prophet of God, I’m going to make a Prophecy that ‘on the 1st of October, there will be darkness in the cloud over Nigeria for a complete 5 hours starting from 12noon till 5pm, then after it, will be followed by a massive rain with thunder.’ If this sign did not occur on the 1st of October, then I will resign as a Prophet”, he said.

“I repeat again, on the 1st of October, there will be darkness in the cloud over Nigeria for a complete 5 hours starting from 12noon till 5 pm, then after it, will follow up a massive rain with thunder. If this sign did not occur on the 1st of October, then I will resign as a Prophet”, Mbaka thundered.

On his authenticity which has been questioned by the Anambra based priest and counterpart, Mbaka said: “As for Ebube Mouson we shall meet on the Mountain.”

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Sir Alex Ikwechegh, has visited the family of the late ‘Keke’ driver who was killed by a soldier in Aba, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had earlier reported that the victim, Chimaobi Nwaogu, was shot dead by Corporal Ajayi Johnson for allegedly refusing to give N100 bribe at a military checkpoint in the state.

Ikwechegh, during the visit, donated some undisclosed amount of money to the bereaved family of the victim.

The former Aba North Council Chairman, who was represented by Chief Kalu Uche of the Alex Ikwechegh Foundation, also announced a full scholarship for the deceased children.

Ikwechegh, founder of the foundation, has always been in the news for good owing to his philanthropic gesture in awarding scholarships and donating freely to motherless babies’ homes.

Alex Ikwechegh Foundation was also the first non-governmental organization to visit the woman whose fingers were cut off by Fulani Herdsmen in Abia. He had generously footed her medical bills back then.

Speaking through Chief Kalu Uche in Umuahia, Ikwechegh said, “The Alex Ikwechegh Foundation (AIF) paid a condolence visit to the family of Chimaobi Nwaogu whose life was cut short by a trigger-happy soldier in Abia State, leaving a wife and two children.”

“We were received by the immediate elder brother of the deceased. We also met the family members, the widow and her two kids”, he said.

“We were well received by the indigenes, they were happy seeing us”, Ikwechegh added.

He revealed that the visiting team made a financial donation to the family, with a promise to cater for the children's education.

“We made a financial donation on behalf of the Alex Ikwechegh Foundation and the family were also encouraged with warmth words and gifts. The Foundation will be playing an active role in their upkeep and education as the kids have automatically become beneficiaries of the AIF Scholarship scheme”, he stated.

Meanwhile, Igbere TV had earlier reported that the killer soldier had been arrested by security operatives in Abia.

Aliyu Yusuf, Defence Deputy Director of Information, while confirming the development, said the soldier has since been detained.

Yusuf added that disciplinary action against the corporal was in course, saying he would be dismissed and handed over to the police for prosecution, if found culpable.

Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed has slammed the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, saying he poses danger to political stability in the state, Igbere TV reports.

The governor also blamed the APC National Chairman for the crisis rocking the state House of Assembly, in a statement made available to Igbere TV on Thursday.

Igbere TV recalls that Oshiomhole had demanded that a fresh proclamation be issued for the inauguration of the Bauchi State Assembly. He spoke after a meeting of the APC leadership with President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, in Abuja.

Reacting to the call, however, the governor said the crisis rocking the Assembly had been resolved and since forgotten.

“The eight members led by the APC national chairman were part of the 17 who were sworn in last week on the floor of the assembly. All the 31 legislators are now members of one state assembly,” the governor said.

“As far as the Government and People of Bauchi State are concerned, the enforced disharmony is now history. Bauchi legislature is one united family. The issue of another proclamation Is ludicrous.

“It is clear that our legislators are not the problem, neither is the APC. Mr Oshiomhole is the problem. He is clear and present danger to political stability in Bauchi State. This explains why he excluded members of Edo State Assembly from the visit to the villa.

“The APC chairman should rethink his strategy as it is dead on arrival because he is dealing with political paper-tigers who were roundly defeated and soundly rejected by our people”, the statement added.

While appreciating President Buhari’s promise to intervene, Governor Mohammed said the president was “shortchanged with the relevant information by those who led the group for their personal interests and primordial dispositions.”

The Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Chukwuka Utazi, has finally distributed the items meant for members of his constituency, Igbere TV reports.

This comes on the heels of threats by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to prosecute him.

Igbere TV reports that the anti-corruption agency had sealed up the premises where Utazi kept items meant for his constituents since last year.

The items which include Transformers, Tricycles, Motorcycles, Sewing Machines, Grinding Machines, are said to worth over N117 million.

The distribution, Igbere TV learnt, was done under the close supervision of officials of the ICPC.

The ICPC had on Sunday made the discovery of the items during its annual Constituency Projects’ Tracking Exercise.

The agency said the items recovered from the Enugu born lawmaker were 168 and 51 motorcycles and tricycles respectively.

The commission said it also recovered 203 grinding machines, 5 transformers and another 60 motorcycles in the compound.

According to the ICPC, the items were meant to be distributed to the lawmaker’s constituents to empower them as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate poverty.

“They were discovered to be stashed away in a compound in Mkpologu town of Uzo-Nwani Local Government Area, believed to be owned by the senator,” the ICPC said.

“The senator has pledged to the ICPC that they would be distributed to beneficiaries on Tuesday, August 6, 2019,” the commission added.

Findings by Igbere TV showed that the contract for the procurement of the items was awarded on 23rd January 2018, under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the senator’s constituency projects.

Senator Utazi was chairman of the anti-corruption committee in the 8th Senate, comprising of the ICPC, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-graft agencies.

Their appointments, according to the statement obtained by Igbere TV, takes effect from tomorrow, August 9, 2019.
