PoliticsAngry Nigerians Call For The Closure Of NTA Over El-rufai’s Body Bag Comment by Abdulazeez99(op): 11:09am On Jun 07, 2019
Nigerians have called for the shutdown of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) over a controversial statement made by the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, during a late-night programme aired on the station, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV recall that Mrr El-Rufai in February said that anyone who is sent to the country from the international community to interfere with the nation’s affairs would return in a body bag.

The call for NTA shutdown and probe on El-Rufai heightened on Friday morning after the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on Thursday suspended the license of Daar Communications Plc., owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power until further notice.

NBC Director-General, Modibbo Kawu, said the action was taken for failure of the broadcasting station to abide by the broadcasting code.

Nigerians have appeared unimpressed with the sanction, and have said that the rules of ‘hate speech’ and other violations should also apply to government-owned broadcast stations.

The United States of America (USA) has now introduced a new requirement to their visa application, Igbere TV reports.

This time, the US says you will have to submit all your social media usernames when applying for a visa into the country.

This is coming few weeks after the US announced it was suspending its ‘Drop Box’ visa service for Nigerian applicants.

According to the US Department, the new regulation also requires visa applicants to submit at least five years’ old email addresses and phone numbers.

This, according to a statement obtained by Igbere TV, is part of the US Department’s plan to ensure national security in the country.

“National security is our top priority when adjudicating visa applications, and every prospective traveler and immigrant to the United States undergoes extensive security screening.

“We are constantly working to find mechanisms to improve our screening processes to protect U.S. citizens, while supporting legitimate travel to the United States,” the statement read in part.

PoliticsJUST IN!!! Ohaneze Slams Buhari, Gbajabiamila, Asks President To.... by Abdulazeez99(op): 5:38pm On Jun 01, 2019
A socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign from office immediately, for becoming a “religious fanatic.”

The call for Buhari’s resignation is against the backdrop of his recent ‘Islamic trip’ to Saudi Arabia.

Igbere TV had reported that President Buhari left Nigeria for Saudi Arabia, a day after his swearing-in ceremony to attend a meeting of the Organisation for Islamic Affairs (OIC).

Reacting to the development, the group in a statement sent to Igbere TV by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Chuks Ibegbu, said Buhari owes Nigerians explanation about his trip to Saudi Arabia immediately after the swearing-in ceremony.

“Why immediate attendance of Organisation of Islamic Countries, OIC, meeting in Saudi Arabia a day after his swearing in? Mr President Buhari owes Nigerians that explanation.

“This is a secular country and a leader that wants to be a mullah or fanatic is free to resign rather than plunge us into a religious crisis," the statement read in part.

The group also attacked Femi Gbajabiamila, a top contender of House of Reps Speakership, for traveling to Mecca to perform Umrah (lesser hajj), saying his journey to Mecca in his bid to become speaker was a bad omen.

It said Gbajabiamila’s journey to Mecca in his bid to become speaker spells doom for Nigeria’s democracy.

“Femi Gbajabiamila, a born again Christian turned into Muslim for political reasons is dangerous to our democracy.

“Although, people have a right to change their religion, the sudden change from a Christian to a Muslim and his umrah journey to Mecca just to be Speaker is a bad omen.

“Can we trust such a character who can change his faith for power sake?,” the statement read.

CrimeBusinessman In Police Net For Defiling 15-year-old Pupil by Abdulazeez99(op): 5:18pm On Jun 01, 2019
Mr Charles Okpara, Lagos-based businessman from Imo State, has been arrested by the Nigeria police for allegedly defiling a JSS2 girl.

Igbere TV gathered that Okpara is a tenant of the girl’s father, Mr. Segun.

Our correspondent learnt that the girl wanted to have her bath at the backyard on May 12, 2019 around 9pm when the 34-year-old father of three held her hostage.

He was said to have covered her mouth and forcefully had sex with her, threatening to kill her if she told anybody about the incident.

Father of the girl, Segun, told newsmen that he woke up in the middle of the night and saw blood dripping from her daughter’s leg.

When he questioned his daughter, according to him, she reportedly lied that she was on her periods.

Six days later, Okpara, whose wife and children had travelled at the time, allegedly had sex with the girl again at the backyard, restating his threat.

The girl, however, opened up to his father some days later after a neighbour claimed that Okpara was HIV positive and warned children to be wary of him.

The case was then reported at the Alagbado Police Division and Okpara was, thereafter, arrested.

Narrating her ordeal, the girl told police that she tried to escape from the grip of the suspect on the two occasions he allegedly defiled her, but she was overpowered.

She said, “I wanted to have my bath at the bathroom in our backyard when I suddenly saw Mr Okpara by my side. He covered my mouth with a towel he was holding and pushed me on a chair at the backyard.

“He slept with me. I tried to shout because it hurt a lot, but nobody could hear me as a result of the towel he used to cover my mouth. After he slept with me, he told me not to tell anybody and threatened to kill me if I did. The second time he had sex with me was on Sunday, May 19, also at the backyard. He covered my mouth with his hand.”

However, Okpara in his statement denied having sex with the girl, claiming that he only had a “romance” with her.

The Imo born businessman said he gave the girl N500 after handling her, but the victim denied his claim.

Okpara was arraigned on Thursday, before a Magistrate Court on one count of defilement.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, did not take the plea of the defendant.

She instaed ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison custody, while the case was adjourned till August 5, 2019.

Igbere TV reports that prophet Godlove is the cleric, who, in June 2018, in a viral audio message, prophesied the Otedola Bridge tanker explosion where nine persons were roasted to death and more than 54 vehicles burnt to ashes along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“2019 is going to be very interesting. By the Grace of God I have watched the election twice, the election day, after the election and the result of the election.

“You know in 2015, there was a lot of tension before the main elections is as if Nigeria was going was going to break, in fact, there will be tension everywhere but along the line, the storm will just disappear.

“There is something you have to learn about Nigeria, they are can shout but are afraid to die.

“I see a few candidates coming up by the end peace will reign. There would be cold war, but there won’t be battle. There is no cause for alarm.

“Power changing hand? No, power will only change hand if the president decides to withdraw his candidacy from the race; apart from that I don’t see any power changing hand,” he had said.

Speaking at his church headquarters on Friday in Lagos, the cleric said the new government would favour Nigerians.

At first when I prophesied that Buhari was going to win in the month of May 2018 when I visited Abuja, a lot of people castigated me even fathers faith attacked me that it was not going to happen that they were going to change the change.

“I told them that God is not a respecter of person, that Buhari was going to win and some of them were forced to even withdraw their invitation after fixing programmes with me.

“Like I said, God is not a respecter of person and God does not lie. Once have I heard but twice have it been spoken that all power belongs to God. And by the grace of God, Buhari is the president of Nigeria for another four years,” he said.

When asked what Nigerians should expect from the new government, Prophet Udensi said, “I want to encourage everyone to support this new administration tagged Next Level. It is going to be a positive next level because God had shown me. It is going to be very bright for Nigerians. PoliticsSee What Buhari Told Court About Justice Bulkachuwa Before She Stepped Down by Abdulazeez99(op): 12:47am On May 23, 2019
The Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday, told the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja that he was not aware that Aliyu Haidar Abubakar, biological son of the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, campaigned for him during the electioneering period.

According to the President, he only got to know that Abubakar was his supporter after he read a copy of the motion the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Igbere TV recalls that the PDP and Atiku had filed the motion to disqualify Justice Bulkachuwa from presiding over the five-man panel tribunal that is hearing petitions challenging the declaration that he won the February 23 presidential election.

Buhari, who is the 2nd Respondent in Atiku and PDP’s petition marked CA/PEPT/02/19, claimed that his attention was further drawn to exhibits that contained newspaper cuttings, indicating that Justice Bulkachuwa’s son canvassed for votes in his favour.

However, in his 11-paragraphs written address he filed to support affidavit he lodged to counter Atiku’s motion, President Buhari, insisted that the petitioners failed to prove that Justice Bulkachuwa had in any way, exhibited any form of bias against them since the petition was entered before the tribunal.

Igbere TV reports that Buhari’s affidavit was deposed to by one Kolawole Andrew Aro, a litigation officer in the chambers of President Buhari’s lead counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN.

Buhari, who was represented at the tribunal on Wednesday by a team of lawyers led by seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SANs, told the Tribunal that he had since his emergence to power, refrained from dabbling into the membership of any judicial panel.

The president said he never interfered with the constitution of any tribunal, “whether the panel is adjudicating on election petitions relating to the office of President, Governor, National or State Assembly, or sitting in any civil or criminal matter howsoever.”

He maintained that Atiku and the PDP, had no reason whatsoever to be apprehensive about the involvement of the Court of Appeal President in the adjudication of their dispute with regards to the outcome of the 2019 presidential election.

On its part, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which is the 1st Respondent in the matter, through its team of lawyers comprising five SANs led by Mr. Yunuz Uztaz, urged the tribunal to dismiss Atiku and PDP’s motion, contending that it was in breach of section 42 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

INEC argued that the motion was discriminatory in the sense that it sought to disqualify Justice Bulkachuwa on the basis that she was married to a politician.

Noting that many male judicial officers are equally married to politicians, INEC, maintained that granting the instant application would set ”a very dangerous precedent”.

Similarly, the All Progressives Congress, APC, through its team of nine SANs, led by Prince Lateef Fagbemi, accused the PDP and Atiku of engaging in “cheap blackmail”.

PoliticsEdo 2020: Finally, Oshiomhole Speaks; Tells APC Leaders, Members What To Do by Abdulazeez99(op): 11:33am On May 19, 2019
National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has advised members of the APC in Edo State to continue to support the Governor, Godwin Obaseki to enable him focus on providing and delivering dividends of democracy to Edo people in the interest of the party and the state, Igbere TV can authoritatively report.

Igbere TV reports that Oshiomhole, a foremost leader of the APC in Edo, made the call at a meeting of party leaders at his Iyamho residence over the weekend.

Our source who was in attendance said the former governor spoke to about 300 party leaders drawn from the three senatorial districts of Edo state.

The leaders who consists of past political office holders, past and present House of Assembly members, House of Representatives, past and present Senators, were in Iyamho to pay a courtesy visit to the National Chairman.

While addressing the leaders, Oshiomhole told them not to allow the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “which has been cut to size in Edo state for their incompetence and bad governance during their time in government, to benefit from any form of crisis within the APC.”

The former Labour leader advised them to remain united and supportive of the administration of Obaseki, who he said is doing well “even if there is space for improvement.”

He however did not disclose whether the governor would be given a return ticket or not, even when party leaders pressurized him to speak.

In the past few weeks tension has heightened in Edo state with different groups for and against Governor Obaseki meeting and granting press conferences.

The social media platforms has also been flooded with opinions, write ups and news from those in support and against Obaseki.

The division is over the second term bid of the incumbent governor in light of moves to ensure a new occupant in Osadebey’s avenue, the seat of power in the state.

This comes amid rumoured rift between the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Obaseki.

Even though Obaseki and his predecessor have kept mute over the rumoured cold war between them, their supporters ahead of the 2020 battle for the governorship ticket continues to sound the political battle cry, fueling strong speculation that Oshiomhole may have severed ties with his successor.

Checks by Igbere TV also showed that the party is divided as some EXCO members are now dumping Oshiomhole to queue behind Obaseki, and vice versa.

But Obaseki had upon his return from a foreign trip denied any rift between him and his godfather, while imploring the people to focus on his achievements.

The governor who rode on the back of Oshiomole against initial stance of many APC leaders has been accused of sidelining APC members and leaders in governance.

Though Obaseki has always denied this stating that he was under pressure to release state funds for sharing, the other group have stated otherwise.

They accused the governor of bringing corrupt people from Lagos, Delta and other states to dictate who gets what, when and how in Edo.

A former Chief Press Secretary to the governor has also challenged Obaseki to publish a list of contracts awarded in his 31 months in power. John Mayaki through his page JohnMayaki.com has accused the governor of incompetence and corruption “thereby increasing the unemployment and under-employment rate in Edo since he came into power.”

He accused the governor of plunging the state into debt with Edo now second most indebted state in Nigeria, “while there was nothing on ground to justify such huge and borrowing.”

He also accused the governor of nepotism, stifling the House of Assembly members and importing appointees from outside Edo mixed with elitist circle who had no feeling for the people of the state.

Also not left out is the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, whom he accused of awarding all contracts for renovations of schools in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area to himself using his twin brother as a front.

As at press time, Edo State Government or their aides are yet to reply several allegations of corruptions, nepotism and favoritism leveled against them by the foremost journalist and former Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mayaki.

Efforts to reach Mr. Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy to the governor, were unsuccessful. He had neither returned the calls nor replied text messages sent to his phone, as at press time.

Contacted by Igbere TV however, Simeon Ebegbulem, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Oshiomhole, denied any prior knowledge of the meeting. Asked if his principal would likely support Obaseki for a second term, the CPS simply said, “I can’t answer that at the moment.”

Politics2023: South-west Will Produce The Next President Of Nigeria — Ahmad Lawan by Abdulazeez99(op): 9:22am On May 19, 2019
Organising Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Ahmad Lawan, has declared that the South-West zone will produce the next president on the platform of the party in 2023.

Igbere TV reports that Lawan, who is currently vying for the vacant position of National Secretary of the APC, promised to canvass for the region to produce the next president during his campaigns.

He claimed that the zone had sacrificed enough for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari, hence, should be compensated with the ticket.

Igbere TV reports that Lawan made the remarks over the weekend during an interactive session with newsmen in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.

His words: “APC’s 2023 presidential ticket belongs to the South-West and every APC member interested in the progress of the country should work towards making it a reality.

“In 2015 general elections, the South-West shelved its interest for the North and its candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, and did the same thing in the 2019 general elections. That is a friendship and partnership that the north must maintain and a kindness that must be repaid.”

Lamenting the defeat suffered by the APC in Adamawa state and other parts of the North in the February 23 presidential election, Lawan said: “It should even be considered an inordinate ambition for any Northerner to attempt to contest for the presidential ticket of the party in 2023 against candidates from South-West in view of the immense sacrifice they made for the progress of the country.”

He maintained that APC has a stronger chance of retaining power in 2023, if it fields a South-West candidate.

PoliticsGanduje Files Defence, Lines Up 203 Witnesses Against PDP by Abdulazeez99(op): 9:08pm On May 18, 2019
Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has finally filed his defence at the Kano State Election Petitions Tribunal, to defend his victory at the last governorship election in the state.

He has also moved to present 203 witnesses in court, to testify that there was a free and fair election in the state on 23rd March, 2019.

This is in response to the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, challenging his victory.

Igbere TV recalls that Ganduje, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won with a margin of more than 9,000 votes after the collation of figures for the supplementary elections held on March 23, 2019

The defence sighted by Igbere TV on Saturday, is a 1,800-page document.

Ganduje's lawyer, Musa Abdullahi Lawan, (SAN), also confirmed the report on Saturday.

He spoke after filing the Governor’s defence before the State Election Petitions Tribunal sitting at Milla road, Kano.

Lawan, who is one of the leading counsels to the governor, said the PDP’s petition was unnecessary in the first place but since it is filed, they would still have to grapple with losing.

His words: “We brought in our processes in defense of the petition and we have done it with the time and we are very confidence of winning and right from the beginning we are saying PDP petition was unnecessary.”

Asked about the proposed 203 witnesses, the lawyer told Igbere TV that they are bringing in witnesses who are “key” and “ready” to tell the Court that there was indeed an election and that the PDP petition was baseless.

The governor’s defense counsel noted that with the filing of the petition within 20-25 days, the trial in the governorship election would fully commence.

He added that they have filed their petition within the stipulated time of 21 days, claiming that even PDP exhausted their time before they filed in their petition.

“We are highly confidence of winning this case because the whole world admits that their was an elections and that Governor Ganduje actually wins the election,” he said.

Christianity EtcFinally, RCCG Reacts To Death Of Alleged Church Minister by Abdulazeez99(op): 11:49pm On May 16, 2019
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has reacted to the report that a church minister identified as Michael Arowosaiye, committed suicide.

Igbere TV reports that Arowosaiye was said to have committed suicide because he had accommodation issue which led to depression.

Our correspondent learnt that Arowosaiye, who regularly performed at RCCG programmes, was said to have hung himself with his belt on Tuesday at Sunnyvale Estate, Lokogoma District, Abuja.

The deceased, who recently ministered during a youth praise event at the church, was believed to be depressed over certain personal issues.

The reports had since stirred reactions online.

Reacting, however, RCCG in a statement issued to Igbere TV on Thursday, said the late Arowosaiye was not a minister in the church.

The statement was signed by the Church's Head, Media and Public Relations, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi.

While admitting that the late Arowosaiye was a singer and keyboardist in one of the Youth Parish in Abuja, Olubiyi said the deceased had left the church for another ministry in 2017.

Full Statement,

“The attention of the leadership of the RCCG has been drawn to reports of the death of one Mr. Michael Arowosaiye said to have committed suicide in Abuja on Tuesday May 14, 2019.

“The report which has been trending on the social media and has also featured in the newspapers, said the man decided to take his own life after going into depression.

“While the RCCG leadership sympathises with the family of the deceased, it has become necessary to clarify the mis-information and absolute falsehood in the report.

“The said Mr. Michael Arowosaiye was not a minister in the RCCG. He was a singer and a keyboardist in one of our Youth Parishes in Abuja until 2017 when he left for another ministry.

“His movement to another ministry notwithstanding, Michael, through his elder brother who is presently one of the coordinators of the RCCG Youth Choir, continued to get invitation to minister in RCCG programmes.

“He had accommodation problem in 2018 and though he was no longer in the RCCG, a family in the Mission gave him the Boy’s Quarters of their house in Sunnyvale Estate in Lokogoma FCT, which was where he lived till the unfortunate suicide incident.

“It is therefore untrue to refer to him as a Minister in the RCCG. It is also misleading and absolutely incorrect to create the impression that RCCG does not care for its Members and Ministers. The RCCG is in the forefront among organizations with robust welfare package in Nigeria.”
