Senator Dino Melaye has likened himself to the biblical Daniel who was thrown into the lions’ den and was taken out unscathed. Melaye, in a tweet late Thursday, shared a campaign poster which read: “Lions can’t consume Daniel.” He captioned the picture: “I am Daniel.” Melaye will on November 16 re-contest Kogi West Senatorial election with his main challenger, Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), after the Court of Appeal on October 11 upheld the ruling of the tribunal which nullified Melaye’s election following a suit filed by Adeyemi, Igbere TV reports. The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election within 90 days from the date of judgement with all those who participated in it as eligible candidates. Melaye had in the past boasted that he would defeat Adeyemi at any time or day in an election. https://twitter.com/dino_melaye/status/1189982801128574982?s=19 http://igberetvnews.com/1104194/im-daniel-in-the-lions-den-senator-dino-melaye/

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), during overnight operation on Thursday, rescued five victims in another collapsed building in Ojuelegba area of Surulere. The Chief Executive Officer, LASEMA, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed this to newsmen on Friday in Lagos said the victims were rescued after the building was pulled down to the ground zero about 11 p.m. Oke-Osanyintolu said the accident occurred at 9.15 p.m., adding that the rescue was in collaboration with the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Igbere TV reports. “The most important thing is that we rescued five people alive while pulling down the building to save lives and property to the residents. “When we got to the building, we discovered that the building was highly unstable, LASBCA had marked the building on March 25, 2015, and May 21 while the residents and the landlord were warned to vacate their premises. “We need to perform, urgently, the construction and re-development of that area because of the safety of lives and property. We then have to use our sophisticated equipment to check whether people are under the debris. With our equipment, we pulled down the building to the ground zero,” the chief executive officer said. Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents in the state to ensure their buildings were properly maintained, adding that emergency was everybody’s business. He, however, announced plans by the agency to conduct a test on all buildings within the area, in order to ensure the safety of the environment in the locality. Also speaking to newsmen, the General Manager, LASBCA, Mrs Abiola Kosegbe, said the agency had identified and marked the collapsed building in question in 2015 and 2019. She said that the marking was done after conducting a text which indicated that the property was in a distress. “Our officers visited the building and sealed it to avoid loss of life, the investigation showed that some of the tenants caught off the seal notice and continued living in the premises,” she said. Kosegbe urged the residents to avoid living in a building in distress in their own good and in the interest of the community in general. She also advised residents and prospective landlords to ensure that they carryout Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to evaluate the quality of materials used in the building. Another government official, Mr Yinka Jonathan, urged the state government to compel building engineers to always go through a series of test to ensure solid erection of a building. Jonathan, however, stressed that if the government was not satisfied with the standard of a particular building, it should stop people from renting such a structure. The Deputy Leader, Surulere Local Government Council, Mr Adebisi Davis, who expressed disappointment over the sad development, however, thanked God for saving lives in the incident. News Agency of Nigerian (NAN) reports that a three-storey building at Magodo Phase 1 and a two-storey building collapsed at No 7, Rufai Street, Ojuelegba about 12 days ago. http://igberetvnews.com/1088813/5-rescued-another-building-collapse-ojuelegba-lagos/

Justice Sybil Nwaka of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday labelled Adegboyega Adenekan, a supervisor of Chrisland School, Lagos, found guilty of defiling a toddler an animal. The judge who sentenced Adenekan, aged 47, to 60 years in prison, also said that he was wicked. Adenekan was arraigned on January 29, 2018 on a count charge of defiling a two-year-old pupil of Chrisland School, Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos State. In a 2:15 hours judgment, Nwaka said that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. She urged that schools should ensure due diligence while hiring teachers. The judge held that Adenekan abused the trust of children in his care as well as the trust of their parents, Igbere TV reports. “Schools should not only be interested in economic gain but also the welfare of pupils. Schools should not cover up teachers who sexually abuse children. “Parents should not be carried away by the aesthetics of schools. “This case may just be the tip of the iceberg as a lot of our children are suffering in silence,” she said. The judge advised parents to be bold enough to confront teachers and school management when necessary. “A lot of our children are suffering in silence. “I advise or recommend that the education and social welfare ministries should visit schools randomly to give them a check. “This defendant is conscienceless, wicked, an animal and not fit to walk on the streets. “I hereby sentence Adegboyega Adenekan to 60 years’ imprisonment; this is the sentence of the court.” Before convicting Adenekan, Nwaka said that the pupil had high intelligence quotient and could give a vivid and consistent narration of how she was defiled by Adenekan while she was wearing her school uniform. The judge noted that the child testified that she was defiled twice by Adenekan – once in his office and the second time in a hall. Nwaka said that the essential ingredients to prove a charge of defilement was that the defendant had sexual intercourse with a child under 11 years and that there was vaginal penetration. She noted that the evidence of defilement is the same as that of rape but said that, in defilement, it is immaterial if it was with or without the consent of the child. http://igberetvnews.com/1088635/youre-an-animal-judge-tells-chrisland-supervisor-jailed-for-defiling-pupil/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has charged all Christians to pray for the President of the United States, Donald Trump. Trump is currently facing an impeachment inquiry from House Democrats over a phone call in July 25 in which he (Trump) asked Vlodimir Zelinskiy, Ukraine president, to investigate Joe Biden, a likely opponent in the 2020 election. It was learnt that in the US, it is illegal to ask foreign entities for help winning election. Reacting to the development, Trump says it is a witch-hunt and he did nothing wrong. However, Suleman in a tweet via his official Twitter handle on Tuesday, said that the impeachment inquiry was unnecessary, calling Trump an imperfect man like everybody else. He wrote; “It’s so crazy seeing the way America media fight Donald Trump.https://twitter.com/APOSTLESULEMAN/status/1181560286228168705?s=19 https://newscapon.com/2019/10/08/impeachment-inquiry-apostle-suleman-urges-christians-to-pray-for-trump/

President of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has clashed with a Cameroonian preacher on popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter. A cleric, identified as Apostle Kennedy Achee, had in a tweet on Sunday demanded a reason why Suleman had not visited the refugees in Nigeria from Southern Cameroon. Over 300,000 persons are said to have fled Cameroon for Nigeria following violence in the country’s primarily English-speaking north-west and south-west areas caused by clashes between armed groups and security forces. Replying the preacher, Suleman informed him that his ministry was housing over 80 refugees. He said: “I think the question should be why are you stupid…I didn’t only visit but gave them N4million. “Are you aware the over 80 people from your country are living with me in Auchi and our ministry covers them? “Don’t throw shades because I will respond.” https://twitter.com/APOSTLESULEMAN/status/1178368768793366528?s=19 https://megameek.com/2019/09/30/apostle-suleman-replies-cameroonian-preacher-over-refugees/

The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami failed to defend President Buhari's 1983 coup and call for revolution in 2011 but justified charging Omoyele Sowore with treason and insulting the President when quizzed about the continous detention of the #RevolutionNow convener. In a “Focus on Africa” BBC interview, the AGF was questioned on the motive of detaining Omoyele Sowore over the call for revolution. In response he said “We have at hand a situation whereby someone that contested election and lost and is eventually calling on revolution and change of government through means other (than what) the constitution recognizes. And to our (the government’s) mind, that constitutes a treasonable felony." When reminded that it was hypocritical for President Buhari who led a military coup in 1983 and also called for a revolution in 2011 to take offence in same, he flinched with his eyes closed before insisting that he could only talk about Mr Sowore’s case. “As the Attorney-General of the Federation, the issue before me is that of Sowore" he said. Upon being told that the media personality and former Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC)never called for a violent overthrow of government, Malami stated that calling for a revolution amounts to treasonable felony as far as he was concerned. “As far as I’m concerned,” came Mr Malami’s response, “treason is treason. If there is a case for treason, you have, as a matter of obligation and right, to present a case before the government. “What we have done is to present our case before the judiciary which enjoys independence and freedom to determine one thing or the other. “Not that we have taken the laws in our hand by adjudging him guilty but by presenting him before judicial process so that he could be accorded the opportunity to present a counter case,” Mr Malami said. In the interview he sat for on Wednesday September 25, AGF Abubakar Malami also justified the mass murder of Shiites and the detention of journalist Jones Abiri and Abah Jalingo. He affirmed that those counter-actions were carried out because they probably called for a change the government without the constitutionally recognised means which is an election. However despite being granted bail by an Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday September 25, Omoyele Sowore is yet to be released by the Department of State Services (DSS). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrzPt3tPctI http://igberetvnews.com/1027516/agf-fails-to-defend-buharis-coup-but-justifies-charging-sowore-with-treason/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

The Nigerian literati on Twitter are currently divided as two bigwigs in the literary community go at each other on the micro-blogging platform, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that BBC's Ruona Meyer, whose documentary "Sweet Sweet Codeine" received an Emmy Award, and internationally acclaimed writer Elnathan John, author of Born on a Tuesday, began dragging each other because of Elnathan's tweets calling out Nigerian writers for associating with Nigerian politicians even after they have arrested a writer for speaking truth to power. Elnathan, while demanding for the release of government critic Dadiyata who was abducted from his home in Kaduna and is still missing, called out Kaduna state governor El-Rufai. Elnathan pointed out that El-Rufai threatened to arrest people who write against him and his state, yet same El-Rufai hosted writers at a literary event in Kaduna and writers attended and didn't demand for the release of their colleague. Well, Ruona apparently felt attacked by the tweets and she called out Elnathan then even went as far as bringing up his sexual history. She said he was in no place to call out Nigerian writers living in Nigeria when he is safely living in Germany. She called him a hypocrite for accepting and celebrating his book, BoaT, being shortlisted by the NLNG, an "entity", she says, has been "directly accused of fraud and murder in the Niger Delta". This quickly escalated to a full-blown Twitter war as Elnathan replied her. The Nigerian literati have now taken sides, with some calling out Ruona for being homophobic by bringing up Elnathan's sexual choices to derail from the information he's trying to pass across. While some took Ruona's side and thanked her for pointing out Elnathan's "hypocrisy". Below are some of the tweets on the matter; http://igberetvnews.com/1005344/social-media-space-divided-as-two-international-bigwigs-fight-dirty/
