Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has celebrated his running mate, Peter Obi, on his 58th birthday, Igbere TV reports.

In a tweet on Friday, Atiku called Mr Obi, ‘Okute’ meaning ‘rock’ as he is fondly called.

He wished the former Anambra State governor more years in good health and service.

“PeterObi, my Vice Presidential candidate OfficialPDPNig, is doggedly committed to the Nigerian Project. Okute, as he is fondly called, is also a great steward & patriot. On behalf of my family and team, he’s wished a happy birthday and more years in good health & service,” Atiku said.

Obi tweeted in response, calling Atiku one of the most hardworking men he knows.

“Thank you for the kind wishes atiku. You are one of the most hardworking men I know and I am proud to be your right hand man in this project to get Nigeria working again,” Obi said.


The PDP had also congratulated Obi on his 58th birthday.

Obi had said he would celebrate his birthday on Friday at the presidential election tribunal in Abuja.

The move was away from the former governor’s tradition of celebrating with school children.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has met behind closed doors with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Igbere TV reports.

The pair met on Friday for about 45 minutes at the Vice President’s office.

Oba Ogunwusi declined speaking with journalists at the end of the meeting.

The monarch had on Thursday held a similar meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Ooni, at the end of that meeting, said he discussed issues around insecurity in the country with the president.

He also said that the South West people do not want war and that there was need for more use of security apparatus in fighting insecurity.

Senator Ademola Adeleke, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the September 22, 2018, election in Osun state, has replied Governor Gboyega Oyetola over his recent comment about him, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had earlier reported that Governor Oyetola had on Wednesday, July 17, said that he felt ridiculed to have contested against Adeleke during the election.

Ayobami Sodiq, a reporter for Igbere TV in Osun State, reports that Senator Ademola Adeleke in a statement issued on Thursday, July 18, said; “dancing to exude happiness and joy is far better than imposing sorrows and untold hardship on people by looting public treasury.”


He said there was nothing wrong in dancing especially when praising God, adding that everything is wrong with the exploitation of the weak and underprivileged.


"Osun people know that I am not the facilitator and prime partaker in the looting of the state treasury. For more than eight years, Gboyega Oyetola was the chief enabler of the most corrupt, inept and anti-people administration in the history of Osun state.

"What is more shameful in Yoruba land than theft? I dare Oyetola to walk the streets of Osun alongside me and see who will get mobbed and stoned by the embittered citizens of our dear state. The people had voted the honest dancer and rejected the false progressives who had ruined the fortunes of Osun state and sentenced generations unborn to excruciating debt burden," he said.

Adeleke also stressed that it is shameful for the governor to be gloating over daylight electoral robbery which was said to have been roundly condemned as injustice across all sectors of Nigerian society and the international community.

He said the people of the state were denied the supremacy of their will but the court foisted on them a governor they did not elect.

"Osun people will remember that immediately after the apex court ruling, I issued a press statement congratulating Oyetola and restraining our members and supporters from violence and anti-peace actions.

"I claim credit for restoring normalcy, peace and stability to Osun state after the protracted governorship battle. At a time Oyetola and his band of usurpers were at a loss on how to manage the usurpation and its resultant tension in the land, I deployed diplomacy, putting the safety of our people above all considerations despite the blatant robbery you now call electoral loss," he added.

He alleged that Oyetola's record as the chief of staff to former governor Rauf Aregbesola confirmed his incompetence as an administrator but showed his competence at treasury looting and hardship imposition.

"Let me remind Oyetola that his records as chief of staff to Rauf Aregbesola clearly confirmed his incompetence as an administrator but shows his competence at treasury looting and hardship imposition.

"Workers are still being owed with the wicked half salary designed by Oyetola still in operation. Pensioners are still being owed their gratuities and benefits. The many abandoned projects which had been fully or mostly paid for still litter the state, the MKO Abiola Aiport remains a jungle with no single structure standing despite N26bn purportedly wasted on the project is of many examples," Adeleke noted.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday said South eastern states would not succumb to the demand for land for implementation of Ruga settlement programme, Igbere TV reports.

The group said it was ready for face the youth wing of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) after the expiration of its 30- day ultimatum.

In a statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB insisted on supporting ranching business but in their private lands, not through forcing people to release their ancestral land to anybody.

The group advised the federal government and those behind the plan to retrace their steps before it turned uncontrollable and claim more innocent lives.


The statement partly reads: “IPOB is a peaceful movement and must remain so but cannot allow anybody to trample on us by forcing our people to release their ancestral land to them.

“We are aware that cattle business remains personal business in Nigeria and cannot change today.

“The community’s ancestral lands are gifts from the God, handed over to us to dwell, on which must not be taken over under any guise by the government or Fulani.

“We challenge Fulani Islamists terrorists including their Arewa youths to do their worst after the expiration of the so-called 30 days ultimatum as was widely reported in every national and international media.

“We are anxiously and eagerly waiting for them in whatever shape they may want it.”

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has hailed members of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) and the Coalition of the Northern Groups (CNGs) for calling on Fulani herdsmen to leave the southern part of Nigeria, Igbere TV reports.

The groups had made the call at a press conference after a meeting on Tuesday in Abuja.

They said the herdsmen should return to the north where their (herdsmen) safety and that of their property could be guaranteed.

The northern elders and the youths said they were worried that some southern leaders had allegedly openly threatened war against the Fulani herdsmen.

In a tweet late Tuesday, Mr Kanu said he welcomed the call on behalf of IPOB.

“On behalf of the great IPOB family worldwide, I welcome the decision by Fulani feudal lords to recall their terror cells back to the north. Our mood & determination here in the south has changed irrevocably. Our resolve to free the oppressed must not be underestimated,” Kanu said.


The Federal Government had suspended the proposed Ruga settlement project after southern leaders rejected it.

The rejection has been further fueled by kidnappings and killings of innocent men and women by persons suspected to be herdsmen.

The sister-in-law of the chief of staff to Ibrahim Balarabe, the Niger State Governor, and one other woman have reportedly been kidnapped by gunmen.


It was reported that the incident which occurred over the weekend at Kagara town in Niger State became public on Tuesday.


It was gathered that the other victim who was kidnapped alongside the sister-in-law of the chief of staff to Niger State Governor is the wife of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshall in Kagara.


Fox Meek gathered that the kidnappers have demanded ransom (sums that have not been ascertained) from the victims families.


The woman is the wife of the elder brother of Niger State Governor’s chief of staff.


As the time of filing this report, an official statement on the incident is yet to be made by Police in Niger.

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting at Metro Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Saturday dismissed Petition No. EPT/AKS/SHA/18/2019 which was filed by the APC and their candidate, Mr. Kenny Inayng Eka against the election of the House of Assembly member for Ikono State Constituency, Mr. Asuquo Nana Udo of the PDP, Igbere TV reports.


The petition was dismissed by the Panel headed by Justice A. W. Akanbi because the APC and its candidate were not diligent in the prosecution of their matter.


The petition was therefore deemed as abandoned in law.


Barr. Godwill Umoh appeared with O. B. Akpan for Hon. Ifiok Udo while Ekemini Udim appeared for the PDP. Ubong Offiong appeared for the APC and Hon. Imaikop Ewang while G. F. Edoho appeared for INEC.


This is one out of the six petitions so far dismissed this week against the APC in the ongoing post election litigation in Akwa Ibom State.


It would be recalled that on Tuesday, July 9 July, 2019, four petitions were dismissed, on Wednesday July 10, 2019 apart from the Nsit Ibom State Constituency petition which was dismissed at Metro road, four petitions were also dismissed against the APC at Panel Two sitting at Sanitation Court, off Nkemba Street, Uyo for various reasons, the principal of which is lack of diligent prosecution.


One reason they noted, is the fact that majority of the petitions originated from one law office Victor Iyanam & Co and the law office was bound to be overwhelmed in view of the peculiar nature of election petitions.


The analysts have noted further that it is very difficult, if not impossible, for a single law firm to prosecute as much as 30 petitions with the diligence required in election petition.


It is however still not clear why the APC entrusted all its matters to one law firm in a State where there are hundreds of very competent and sound lawyers.


However, it is common in all most cases that Application for Prehearing were filed after the stipulated time of seven (7) days by law, which robs the Tribunal the jurisdiction to further enlist the petitions.

The Senate on Monday said that despite the public apology tendered by Senator Elisha Abbo, it would proceed with the Senator’s probe, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, had constituted a panel to investigate the assault, following a point of order raised by the Senator representing Kaduna Central, Uba Sani, on the issue.

The Senate Leader, Abdullahi Yahaya; Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe; and Senator Opeyemi Bamidele supported Sani by condemning Abbo’s alleged action.

Lawan said it would be unfair to both the lawmaker and the victim if the Senate should pass a judgment based on the viral video clip without listening to Abbo.

However, hours after the ad hoc panel was constituted, Abbo, who was absent from the Senate plenary on Wednesday, rushed to the National Secretariat of the PDP in Abuja where he addressed journalists and apologised to Nigerians and his victims for his action.

But the Chairman, Senate ad-hoc Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, told Igbere TV on Monday that the public apology by Abbo was not enough to stop the Senate panel from going ahead with its assignment.

His reaction was contained in a statement made available to Igbere TV on Monday, in Abuja.

“The Senate has not taken any definite position on the issue. We only constituted an ad hoc committee to investigate the matter. We have not passed any verdict on the Senator.

“We are aware that Senator Abbo has tendered a public apology and regretted his action but that does not stop the Senate from going ahead with its own investigation.

“A responsible institution like the Senate should follow due process in a matter like this by ensuring that all parties are giving fair hearing.

“The Senate will base its decision on the report of the ad hoc committee whenever it is submitted and considered.”

The Abuja division of the Court of Appeal on Monday reserved judgment in the appeal filed against President Muhammadu Buhari’s academic qualification for the 2019 presidential election.


The three member panel of the appellate court presided over by Justice Atinuke Akomolafe-Wilson, reserved judgment after listening to the argument canvassed by counsel to parties in the suit, Igbere TV reports.


At Monday’s proceedings, counsel to the appellant, Ukpai Ukairo, insisted that President Buhari was not educationally qualified to have stood for the presidential poll on the grounds that the required certificates were not attached to his form CF001, submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for clearance to contest the presidential poll.


The counsel denied the claim that the suit of the appellant was statute barred, adding that the case was instituted on November 5, 2018 within the 14 days allowed by law. He said the cause of action started with the announcement and publication by INEC of successful candidates for the 2019 general election on October 25, 2018.


Ukairo therefore urged the Court of Appeal to allow the appeal and set aside the decision of the Federal High Court on grounds of miscarriage of justice.


He asked the court to nullify Buhari’s participation in the February 23 presidential election because he was not educational qualified for the poll at the time he did.


However, lawyers to the 1st and 2nd respondents urged the court to dismiss the appeal for being incompetent and lacking merit.


Buhari’s counsel, Abdullahi Abubakar, specifically told the Appeal Court that the case of the appellant was statute barred having not been filed within the mandatory period stipulated by the law.


He urged the court to uphold the decision of the Federal High Court to the effect that the suit was not filed in line with the position of the law.


Counsel to the All Progressives Congress Babatunde Ogala, argued in the same line with Buhari and urged the court to dismiss the appeal, while counsel to INEC, Onyeri Anthony, said the commission was neutral and would abide by the decision of the Court.


Kalu, Ismail and El-Kuris had approached the appellate court to nullify and set aside the Judgment of the Abuja division of the Federal High Court which declined to hear their suit instituted to challenge the educational qualification of President Buhari before the conduct of the 2019 general election.


The appellants in their appeal are asking the appellate court to reverse the judgment of Justice Ahmed Mohammed on the grounds that the processes filed by Buhari and used to strike out their suit were not competent.


While faulting the Judgment of the lower court, which was predicated on the grounds that the suit was statute barred, the appellants claimed that the Federal High Court erred in law and in its decison because they did not challenge the primary election that produced Buhari as candidate of the APC.


They therefore urged the Court of Appeal to assume jurisdiction over the suit and grant all the reliefs sought at the Federal High Court but which were refused.


Among the reliefs were a declaration that Buhari submitted false information regarding his qualification and certifcate to INEC for the purpose of contesting election into the office of the President of Nigeria and that he should be disqualified.


They also prayed for an order of court directing INEC to remove Buhari’s name as a candidate of APC and another order restraining Buhari from parading himself as a candidate in the 2019 presidential election and also APC from recognizing Buhari as a candidate.


The Federal High Court had on May 2 declined to grant the request of the appellants on the grounds that the suit was not filed within the time allowed by law and therefore sustained the preliminary objection raised by Buhari at the hearing.


But not satisfied, the appellants are now asking the Court of Appeal to grant their reliefs because they are not challenging the primary election of APC as erroneously held by the lower court but the qualification of Buhari to stand for the presidential election without demonstrating his educational certificates as required by law.

The University of Benin, UNIBEN, has released its Post-UTME application form for the 2019/2020 academic session, CAMPUS GIST reports.

CAMPUS GIST reports that the application portal, which is now open, will officially close midnight, July 29, 2019.

CAMPUS GIST learnt that the Admission Screening Exercise will take place between Monday 5th August, and Monday 12th August, 2019 in designated centres within Ugbowo Campus of the University.

It was gathered that the Screening Exercise will be conducted using the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

In a statement made available to CAMPUS GIST on Monday by the university's Registrar, Mrs A. O. Oshodin, she said, “All candidates are expected to be seated, latest one hour before the stipulated time for their screening exercise.

“Please note that ONLY candidates who applied through JAMB for the 2019/2020 UTME Admission and chose University of Benin as First Choice and scored 200 and above are eligible for this Screening Exercise.”

The Senate is set to investigate alleged diversion of over $322 million Paris club refunds meant for the 774 Local Government Areas in the country, it was learnt on Sunday, Igbere TV reports.


The Senator representing Delta North, Peter Nwaoboshi, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja


Nwaobosh told reporters that a formal motion would be presented on the floor of the Senate for the investigation of the diverted funds.


According to reports gathered by Igbere TV, the aim of the probe, he said, was to unearth the faces behind the alleged diversion under the guise of consultancy fees.


Nwaoboshi said that measures would also be mounted to recover the diverted funds.


The Delta north senator also flatly denied recent media reports that 22 various bank accounts belonging to him were frozen by the Special Presidential Investigation Panel (SPIP).


He challenged those behind the reports to publish the amount recovered.

Former presidential candidate, Oby Ezekwesili, has blamed the economy for the beggarly attitude of gatemen and security personnel in public places, Igbere TV reports.


Mrs Ezekwesili tweeted severally on Saturday lamenting the spate at which security personnel channel energy into accosting incoming and departing guests with the aim of getting tips to supplement their income.


“Pretty sure that one is not the only Nigerian extremely alarmed and crying about the dehumanizing effect of the economy on some of our people. When mobbed by gatemen, security personnel and their other colleagues whose Good Morning is Give Me Money , I feel very sad for us all.


“The rate at which this culture of begging by gatemen and security personnel has become the ‘creative supplement’ to their income is a proxy for what’s going on with the rest of society. It sure cannot be easy to throw away your dignity & devote most of your time @ work begging,” she said.


The former education minister said the beggarly acts were indicators of ‘economic depression’, urging political leaders to fix the economy.


“The indicators of economic depression are all over for the thoughtful and intuition political leaders to see. Those gatemen and security personnel operating Beggars Units across the land are a sample of many more others that we don’t see. This country is in CRISES. Fix it,” Ezekwesili said.

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has been issued a 5-day ultimatum to issue a fresh proclamation letter for the “proper” inauguration of the Edo State House of Assembly and election of a new Speaker, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the order came at a meeting of the leadership of the National Assembly, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Director-General (DG) of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday, in Abuja.

Igbere TV gathered that the meeting was held at the instance of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, over the petition received from 15 members-elect of the Edo Assembly who were not inaugurated in June this year.

Igbere TV recalls that 15 aggrieved members of the State Assembly had petitioned the National Assembly, IGP and DSS DG over what they described as “illegal inauguration” of the Edo 7th Assembly and election of a new Speaker by 9 out of 24 lawmakers.

At the meeting, the National Assembly and the police expressed readiness to take over the affairs of the Edo Assembly if the governor fails to obey the directives after five working days.

“The leadership of the National Assembly, Inspector General of Police and Director-General of Department of State Services (DSS), after examining the crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly, between Tuesday night and early hours of yesterday (Wednesday), in Abuja, resolved that Governor Godwin Obaseki should issue a fresh proclamation for inauguration of the House”, a joint statement sighted by Igbere TV on Thursday read.

The statement indicated that the National Assembly may likely send a team to observe the inauguration of the House and election of a new Speaker whenever a new proclamation letter is issued.

“Governor Obaseki is expected to comply with the directive, which will not exceed next week.

“If he does not do that within five days of receipt of the message from the Senate President, the National Assembly is likely to take over affairs of the Edo State House of Assembly and the police could also seal off the House until the fresh proclamation is issued and re-inauguration carried out,” a source in the Senate President’s Office added.

Igbere TV gathered that at the private meeting hosted by the Senate President, Governor Obaseki who was expected to attend was absent, as he had returned to Edo State after his trip to Abuja on return to the country from the United Kingdom, last week.

Our source, a serving senator who also attended the meeting, said the Senate President (Ahmad Lawan) was mandated to convey the decision reached at the meeting to Governor Obaseki. “He (Obaseki) is to issue a fresh proclamation within five days for re-inauguration of the House with all the 24 members present.”

He said the ruling party cannot be preaching rule of law and breaching it on the other hand “because the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will capitalise on such abnormality to score cheap political point.”

He, however, maintained that the decision was taken in the “best interest of democracy”, saying, “nobody is taking sides on the matter.”

Meanwhile, Igbere TV had previously reported that the Edo Assembly on Wednesday, swore in member-elect representing Akoko-Edo II Constituency, Emmanuel Agbaje, which brings the number of lawmakers so far inaugurated to 12.

The House was reconvened at about 4:24p.m, and after the necessary formalities, the Speaker, Frank Okiye, administered the oath of office on Agbaje at exactly 4.31 p.m.

President Muhammadu Buhari has renewed the appointment of Mr Sunday Aghaeze for another four years, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Aghaeze is the Personal Assistant to the President on Photography. He has been Buhari’s personal photographer since 2016.

According to a letter obtained by Igbere TV, which was signed by Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the appointment took effect from May 29, 2019.

“I am pleased to inform you that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved your appointment as Personal Assistant to the President (State Photographer),” he said.

Ahead of the November 2020 governorship election in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday sacked some Commissioners in his cabinet, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV gathered that the affected Commissioners are perceived loyalists of his predecessor and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Recall that both the governor and his predecessor have been at loggerhead over the control of the State House of Assembly, with insinuations riff that Obaseki may be denied a second ticket.

Igbere TV reports that the sack came at the weekly State Executive Council (SEC) meeting which is normally held every Wednesday.

At least, eight Commissioners were affected by this latest sacking spree.

Our source, who is also one of the affected Commissioners, told Igbere TV that more appointees are expected to be relieved of their duty over their perceived loyalty to the former governor, Oshiomhole.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has nominated his spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, as commissioner for newly-created Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Igbere TV reports.


Mr Aruwan’s name was included in the list of 11 nominees sent to Kaduna State House of Assembly for vetting.


Aruwan, in a statement obtained by Igbere TV on Wednesday, said three more nominees would be sent to the assembly.


“The second batch of nominees will subsequently be forwarded for the consideration of the legislature.


“All the 11 nominees served in various positions in the first term of the government.


“Picking insiders is a deliberate decision to enable the nominees hit the ground running and assist the government to achieve its targets for the second term.


“Every appointee will be subjected to stronger monitoring based on clear terms of reference and key performance indicators,” the statement said.


Five of the nominees had served as commissioners in the first tenure of Mr El-Rufai.


The governor had in June announced the creation of three new ministries – Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology; Ministry of Housing and Urban Development; and Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

A Nigerian lady, Eseosa has been left overjoyed after her boyfriend proposed to her with a brand new car, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the proposal took place in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Saturday.

The event took place in church while another wedding programme was ongoing. Both the lady and her husband-to-be were invitees.

Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, says there is nothing like non-indigenes in Kano, insisting that everybody residing in the ancient city is a bonafide indigene irrespective of ethnic, cultural and religious background, Igbere TV reports.


Igbere TV reports that Sanusi said this on Sunday at the 10th anniversary/Ofala 2019 festival of Eze Ndigbo Kano, Igwe Boniface Ibekwe, held at Ado Bayero Square, Sabon Gari.


“For us in Kano, whether you are Nope, Yoruba, Igbo, Kanuri, Muslim, Christian, if you identify yourself as a son of Kano, you are from Kano.

“Religion of Islam expressly prohibits tribalism. The Qu’ran is very clear on these issues. Allah says all mankind were created from one man and one woman (Adam and Eve). We made you as people from different tribes so that you can recognise each other. The best of all among you is he who fears God,” Sanusi said.


The monarch said he was glad that there has not been ethnic clash since he assumed the throne as emir of Kano.


“It is the wish of Allah that Nigeria has many ethnic and religious groups. We should maintain peace and live in peace. Many of you here today were born in Kano, your parents were also born here in Kano. So, who can come and tell you that you are not an indigene? We are all one and we should live together as brothers and sisters,” he said.


Sanusi also called on Igbo leaders in Kano to pick a leader so that everyone is obliged to accept his leadership.


Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano was represented at the event by the Head of Service, Dr Kabiru Shehu.

BREAKING: Deputy President Dies in Road Accident
Deputy president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Umar Tudunwada, is dead, Igbere TV reports.


Igbere TV learnt that the former managing director of Radio Kano and general manager of Freedom Radio died in an accident on Sunday on the Kano-Kaduna road while returning from a meeting of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) in Abuja.


Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Gbemiga Ogunleye, confirmed the death in a Facebook post.


“His wife, Aisha who is a former Deputy President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, daughter and driver are still in the hospital.


“Please join me in praying for their speedy recovery,” Mr Ogunleye wrote.


Tudunwada worked for various national and international media organisations in the course of his career.


Some of the organisations he worked for are CTV Kano, Voice of America (VOA), Radio Deutsche Welle, Freedom Radio and Radio Kano.


He had also experienced the print media as he was a one-time editor of the Concern Magazine in Kano.


Tudunwada also served as the secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and as the special assistant and director of press to two governors in the state.


He was elected NGE deputy president unopposed at the guild’s biennial convention in Lagos in May.


Ogunleye was secretary of the electoral committee.


Turbanned as the Danmasanin Tudun Wada, his hometown, the deceased left behind 21 children and four wives amongst whom is the former deputy president of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (North), Hajiya Aishatu Sule.


He has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites at Tarauni cemetery in Kano metropolis.
