A 27-year old graduate named Abubakar Abdul Mumin, a student of the Tamale Technical University has made news headlines due to his sheer will and desire to survive.


According to IgbereTv reports, the young man’s story inspires the majority of the youth today as he does several menial jobs as well as sell coconuts to make money.


Narrating his story, he said he started the coconut business at the age of 19.

“My name is Abubakar Abdul Mumin, from Yepeli in the Northern Region of Ghana. I am 27 years and a final year student of Tamale Technical University. I am studying Statistics. I am also the Organiser of the Statistics Department. I won the position in a very hot election.


I didn’t know I could win because I didn’t put any money in that but those who voted for me explained that they like my diligence and ability to unite people. I appreciate. Statistics is a very a very difficult course so I have little time to spare. A lot of my friends think I have left them but my education takes a lot of my time now.


I am always indoors reading and learning new things to master the course. During my long vacations, I take time to teach Mathematics at the Yepeligu Junior High School. I have done that for three years and I do it for free. The School is not far from my place so I can manage. I had a very difficult time in the JHS because even though I like mathematics, we never had a Mathematics teacher throughout my stay. It was hard but I passed. I go to teach because I don’t want them to experience the same difficulties. The children like me and I feel proud.


When I have other opportunities on short vacations, I sell coconut and support my education. I started selling when I was 19. I never get embarrassed when people look down on me because of what I do. I am strong. Peoples opinions do not put me down because I know who I am.


I want to learn to the highest level and achieve my goals. My goal is to make a very good impact on my people in the North and in Ghana. I want to teach. I also want to help my district with my statistics education and compile data that has been overlooked about my people. My brother is the administrator at Karaga District Assembly.


He helps me a lot and I also want to help my parents and siblings wholeheartedly. I have supported myself and paid all my school fees for three years through selling. I move out of Tamale to other regions to sell.


Sometimes for two months, I stay with my friends in those areas and then when I have enough, I move back to school. I want to graduate with a good grade, I am currently on second class upper and I feel proud. I will make it one day. Now, I have saved enough to buy my handouts and pay other dues. I will return to school by mid January and complete my school. I believe the future is how you choose to make it, sometimes. I love peace and we must all help make our lives better.”

An all-female crew of Air Peace have foiled the attempt by a kidnapper to traffic a three-day old baby to Lagos from Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA), IgbereTv reports.


The airline said the all-female crew comprised Captain Sinmisola Ajibola, Senior First Officer Onohi Agboighale, Mojoko Ewane, Taiye Abbey, Victoria Ukpiaifo and Ngozi Ezeamaka.


A source close to the airline confided in IgbereTv that the group was led by a middle-aged woman, who, with her collaborators, had booked the airline’s flight to Lagos


According to Chris Iwarah told IgbereTv newsmen, Corporate Communications Manager of Air Peace, the suspect booked Air Peace Port Harcourt-Lagos flight P4 7393 and during boarding, the lead member of the crew, Mojoko Ewane, observed that the suspect was handling the baby in an awkward manner and decided to question her.


When she was questioned at the boarding door of the aircraft, the suspect claimed the baby was three days old. During further interrogation, the suspect allegedly contradicted herself when she stated that the baby was born on January 5, a day before her aborted trip. The suspect said she gave birth to the baby shortly after travelling from Lagos to Port Harcourt on an Air Peace flight on January 5.


“A call was later placed to the contact numbers the suspect said belonged to her husband and the doctor who handled the birth of the child. While the alleged husband claimed that his wife was actually pregnant, the alleged doctor’s number rang unanswered. When the suspect was asked to breastfeed the baby, she could not as there was no breast milk. The suspect tried to create a scene, rallying other passengers on the flight to prevail on Air Peace crew to allow her fly, but the crew stood their ground.”


It was gathered that when the crew informed the suspect that the carrier’s standard operating procedure barred them from allowing passengers fly with a week-old baby on grounds of health, she claimed to be a nurse and insisted that the baby’s health would not be jeopardised. The airline, it was gathered, later invited personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Port Harcourt Airport to take over the case for further investigation.


Iwarah confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying the airline was proud that its crew professionally discharged their responsibility to ensure passengers’ safety and assist government in fighting crime. A DSS source in Port Harcourt also confirmed that the suspect had been transferred to the zonal office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for further investigation.


The suspect was said to have confessed that a lady gave her the baby. The DSS official also commended Air Peace crew for foiling the attempted child trafficking with their vigilance.


In June 2018, Air Peace crew exposed a suspected trafficker of a three-month-old baby on its Lagos-Banjul flight, IgbereTv news report.

A Magistrate court in Lagos has ordered three Senior Secondary School 1 (SS1) students (names withheld), who allegedly gang-defiled their 15-year-old classmate be remanded in a juvenile home, IgbereTv news report .


The state police had dragged the teenagers, aged: 16, 16 and 14 years before the court on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful canal knowledge, sexual assault and defilement.


The prosecutor, Sgt. Hafsat Ajibode, told the court that the boys committed the offences in July 2018 at Makoko Area of Lagos State. She said that the boys gang-defiled their 15-year-old classmate at her resident.


“The boys claimed that they came to visit their female classmate at her house while her parents were not around. They offered her a drink which was suspected to contain some sleeping pills and that was the last the girl remembered when she became conscious. When she regained consciousness, she discovered that she was naked and bleeding while the boys had disappeared.

She raised the alarm which led to the arrest of the accused. The girl has since been traumatised and hospitalized as a result of the incident,” she said.


Sgt. Ajibode said that the offences contravened Sections 260 (1) (2) (4), 261, 263 (1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The case was adjourned until Jan.16 for mention.

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday came down hard on some motorists who drove against traffic along the Muritala Mohammed Airport Road in Ikeja, IgbereTv reports.


In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Habib Aruna on Tuesday, the governor decried the flagrant abuse of the State Traffic Laws.


According to reports gathered by IgbereTv, thec governor who was returning from Abuja where he had attended an event apprehended a Nigerian Army personnel who drove a space bus with registration number JJJ 290 AC.


On sighting the vehicle, he alighted from his car and reprimanded the officer for “showing a bad example” contrary to what the Nigeria Army is known for.


The governor reprimanded another offender who drove a saloon car with registration number LSR 445 ER, for breaking the law regardless of the dangers involved in driving against traffic.


He condemned the manner at which some motorists drive ‘one way’ to beat the traffic along the Nigerian Air force Base inward International Airport Road in the Ikeja axis.


IgbereTv learnt that Governor Ambode, thereafter, ordered the immediate seizure of the vehicles and directed that the offenders be prosecuted in line with the provisions of the traffic laws on the state.

Report from IgbereTv newsmen has it that the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has challenged the Nigerian media to expose his wife, Aisha or son, Yusuf, if they get any monetary deals from any of the government parastatals.

President Buhari said this during his interview with Arise TV while responding to the allegation that he is covering some persons close to him that have been accused of corruption, IgbereTv reports.

The chief military rebel who led a failed coup in Gabon on Monday has been arrested and two of his commandos killed after they stormed a public radio station, the presidency said, IgbereTv News report.


A group of soldiers attempted to take power and called in a radio appeal for a popular uprising against ailing President Ali Bongo, who is abroad recovering from a stroke.


Security forces stormed the radio station in the capital Libreville to take it back, killing two rebel troops, arresting their leader and freeing journalists who had been forced to help rebels make their appeal.
“The situation is under control,” the presidency statement said.


Six rebel troops earlier Monday burst into the state radio broadcasting station, “neutralising” gendarmes in front of the building before making their broadcast, it said.


Officials earlier said five rebels had entered the building and four had been arrested, IgbereTv News report.


The message was read by a person who identified himself as Lieutenant Ondo Obiang Kelly, the deputy commander of the Republican Guard and head of a previously unknown group, the Patriotic Youth Movement of the Gabonese Defence and Security Forces.


He said a “national restoration council” would be formed in the former French colony “to guarantee a democratic transition for the Gabonese people”.


Bongo is staying at a private residence in the Moroccan capital Rabat after suffering a stroke. He made a televised speech on New Year’s Eve but has not been in the West African country since October.

Jalandhar rural police in India on Saturday, January 5, arrested four drug peddlers including a Nigerian national, two Mizoram women and their Delhi based accomplice after seizing 2-kg heroin hidden in a teddy bear and juice tetra pack, IgbereTv News report.


The accused have been identified Nigerian man Ohas Ugo (20) Presently resident of Nawada near Uttam Nagar, Delhi, Amir Ali (30) of Street No. 16, Krishnapuri, Tilak Nagar Delhi, Maphiue (40) of Tuthangi, and Aizawal Chauthatgpuii (30) of Chaltlang Bethel Colony Aizawal in Mizoram.


Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar (Rural) Mr Navjot Singh Mahal, accompanied by SP/Investigation Mr Balkar Singh, DSP Kartarpur Mr Digvijay Kapil, and DSP Special Branch Mr BIS Kahlon said that SHO Maqsudan Police Station Mr Ramandeep Singh along with his team was conducting special nakabandi near Railway Crossing, Adda Bidhipur.


Mr Mahal told that around 6:30 PM, one Swift car bearing registration number (PB-01-N-0240) which was being driven very fast and later stopped by the police party.


"On being quizzed, the occupants revealed their identities and cops frisked them and checked other items carried out by them", he said and added Chauthatgpuii was carrying a purple coloured Teddy Bear on her lap while Ohas was carrying a plastic bag upon his thighs containing one tetra pack of Tropicana Orange Juice and one box of Nestle A+ Slim.


SSP said that upon checking of the teddy bear, one kg of heroin was recovered from it and on checking of a packet of Tropicana Orange Juice and Nestle A+Slim, one kg of heroin was recovered and took all of them into custody.


Mr Mahal further revealed that Chuauthatgpuii is hairdresser whereas Isabel wife of Ohas Ugo is also working with her as a hairdresser.


Chauthatgpuii further revealed that she used to buy heroin from Ohas Ugo and supplying the same.


Ohas Ugo came to India on business visa about three years back and already an FIR No. 20 dated 21-12-2017 u/s 21 NDPS Act and 14 Foreigners Act was registered by STF, S.A.S. Nagar.


A case under sections 21/29-61-85 of NDPS Act was registered in Maqsudan police station and a thorough probe is being carried out in this case, IgbereTv News report.

A man’s proposal has gone viral after he popped the question to his girlfriend in spectacular manner – with the help of his 16 dogs. Maurice Goldstein asked Laura Stampler to marry him, with the help of 16 very special, albeit slightly furry, dogs.

According to the bride, Maurice asked Laura to take a quick impromptu hike with him up Runyon Canyon but when they reached the top, the couple were met with a trail of rose petals.

She said:

A woman was killed and two other people sustained serious inuries in an accident involving a truck and a motorcycle in Ibadan, Oyo state, Igbere TV News reports.


The fatal accident occured in Apata, Ibadan early this morning, according to online reports.
The accident was reportedly caused by the truck which failed brake and hit a motorcycle close to the pump at Apata Police Post. The accident resulted in the death of a woman who was sitting at the back of the motorcycle.


Two men on the motorcycle were injured. One of the injured men was the motorcycle rider, Mr Habeeb Aniyikaye. Habeeb said they were three riding on the motorcycle - the deceased, him a male passenger - and they had no idea that the truck behind them had failed brake.


The injured victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment while the truck driver has been apprehended and is currently in police custody.

In a new video footage recorded by an Uber driver, a slay queen has been alleged to assaulting the driver by the rough handling him after she failed to pay him the money for her trip.

According to what can be deduced from the video, after ending the trip, the lady asked the driver to go – after waiting for minutes – as the person who was supposed to send her money to pay him was still pending. The driver felt he was about to be conned and so he chose rather to wait and be paid than leave and be played, this was when things began to get messy.

According to the driver, he was rough handled by the lady who tore his shirt after she felt she was being disgraced by him – this prompted the driver to begin recording where he can be seen making a complaint to Uber and threatening to ‘naked’ her.

He and the lady are eventually appealed to by passersby with one of them said to be a police officer before the atmosphere became calm again.

Bankole Wellington, Nigerian entertainer popularly known as Banky W, says Nigerians who collect money from politicians during elections should not complain about the economy.

In an interview with Sahara TV, Banky said his party is hoping that the frustration in the country has made people wiser about voting.

“We are counting on the fact that Nigerians know what is going on, they are not fooled easily anymore,” he said.

“Even the poorest among us understand this game, they understand that every four years, politicians come along and give them money to cast their vote and that is the last time they will see them till four years later.

“We are trying to educate people and say that we can’t do the same thing and expect different results. If they are going to vote for a politician because he gave 20k, then don’t complain that things are hard because you mortgaged your piece of the country by going that route.”

Speaking on voter apathy, he said people who do not show up at the polling booth on election day are the ones that make it easy to rig.

“By not voting, you are voting for things to remain the same. By not voting, you are giving you voice and your vote to the same people you are complaining about.

“People complain about rigging, what they don’t understand that when they stay home, that’s the perfect scenario for rigging to occur.

“When you make an allotment in this room for 10 people to vote and one person shows up, you have just created the perfect scenario for anybody to come along and play with the numbers.”

He is contesting to represent Eti-Osa at the federal house of representatives candidate on the platform of the Modern Democratic Party (MDP)

EFCC, Gombe Zonal Office, on December 20, 2018 secured the conviction of Muhammed Haladu of Dengi, Kanam Local Government, Plateau State, on a one-count charge bordering on cheating, contrary to Section 320 (a) of the Penal Code.

Haladu was brought before Justice Abubakar Jauro of the Gombe State High Court, for posing as an EFCC operative, to defraud a businessman, Ayuba Pyokdom of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) in the guise that it will be used to help “bury” an investigation into a petition against him. It however turned out to be false.
When the charge was read to him, he did not waste the time of the Court as he pleaded “guilty”. Justice Jauro, thereafter, convicted and sentenced him to one year in prison with an option of N20, 000 fine.
In a related development, the EFCC secured the conviction of Abubakar Umar and Nafiu Ibrahim for offences bordering on conspiracy and cheating. Umar and Ibrahim were arraigned before Justice Jauro on a two-count charge. They allegedly defrauded Hadiza Bajoga and Rakiya Yakubu of about N4 million.
The EFCC had received a petition from his victims. Subsequently, an investigation was launched into the alleged crime, which led to their arrest in Kano State.

One of the counts reads: “That you Abubakar Ahmed Umar and Nafiu Ibrahim sometime in December 2017 or thereabout at Gombe, Gombe State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did fraudulently induce one Hadiza Yakubu to deliver to you monies totalling the sum of N4,000,000 (Four Million Naira Only) on WhatsApp group chat, under the name "Success Oil & Gas" and that the said sum was to be used for investing in Oil and Gas business which you knew same to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 320 and Punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code Law”.

They pleaded “guilty” to the charges when they were read to them. Based on their pleas, prosecuting counsel, Zarami Muhammad, asked the court to convict them accordingly.

A man identified as Julius was almost beaten to death by the mob after he was caught trying to have sex with the lady she went to rob at her home in Delta state.

According to reports, the lady who left her door opened was sleeping when the thief entered her room to steal her phone narrated that in her sleep, she felt it that someone is romancing her, which makes her to wake up from her sleep while she started shouting thief.

It was learnt that as the thief ran out of her room and was about to escape through Azigbo lane, he was caught and beaten by mobs who ran after him after the lady shout for help.

It was gathered that the victim (who wore red singlet) in the attached picture was sick and slept off after taking the drugs that were prescribed for her by a doctor but was unfortunate to being woken up due to the romance by the thief who tried to steal her phone.

Some people on Facebook who claim to know the said thief are saying he is mentally unstable, this claim is yet to be verified.

A South African lady and a Twitter user identified with her handle as @MokoenaDee, has taken to the social networking platform to share the photo of a desperate graduate begging for a job on the side of a road.

The photo which was attached in the tweet making the rounds online, shows the graduate holding a placard that displayed her qualifications.

The lady revealed in the placard that she holds a BA in criminal justice, BA (Hons) in Criminology, BTech in forensic investigation, and a Diploma in computer literacy.

A woman from Zambia has shocked her followers after she revealed that her landlord and his wife have asked her to live in their house rent-free for the next three years so she can save up to get her own house.

She revealed that the landlord is 31 and the wife is 29 but they own a house because they had a headstart in life. Asking her to live in their house rent-free is their own form of youth empowerment, to help others coming after them, the tenant said.

After the tenant shared her story, some Twitter users could not believe it and said that she is either sleeping with the landlord, or the landlord and his wife are trying to butter her up so they can have a party with her.

Hollywood A-List actresses, Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira are both in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Black Panther stars are seen in a photo shared by Lupita on her Instagram page which also showed her current location to be Lagos.

She captioned:-

“Girls Trip! #Lagos #Nigeria”

After she shared the photo, Hollywood actress Uzo Aduba, who is from Nigeria, reacted by encouraging her to enjoy the country.

Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon also commented, saying she wants to come to Nigeria.

This is the first time Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira will be visiting Nigeria and the reason not yet stated, but it is likely to have something to do with Black Panther.

A Nigerian lady shares yet another sad story of the almajiri menace plaguing Northern Nigeria.

According to her, her cousin who is 13 years old was kidnapped in Tarauni Local Government Area in Kano State, and killed by four almajiris.

Drinking and driving are very dangerous. It is also a very serious crime. The best way to avoid the terrible consequences that come with drunk driving is when you and your friends support each other to stay safe and not drink and drive. If you want to stop your friends from drinking and driving, consider taking the actions below.

Get a Designated Driver:
Perhaps the best way to stop your friend from drunk driving is to make sure that there is an alternative nearby. Always start the evening with a designated driver who will be able to get those who are drinking home safely. Don’t be afraid to pick up this person’s tab for the night and to pay for gas—he or she can stop the rest of the group from making a dangerous mistake. A good designated driver can almost always stop drunk driving before it starts.

Talk about It Sober:
Before you go out, talk about your transportation plans. While a drunk individual might not make great choices, a sober person can better understand the consequences of drunk driving. You don’t want to have to call a drunk driving lawyer, like The Law Offices of Schiro and Zarzynski, for you or for one of your friends. Make sure you talk about how everyone in your group is going to get home that night, even if they don’t plan on drinking. If someone in your group doesn’t have a plan, make it for him or her.

Remove the Temptation:
If you really want to make sure that a friend won’t drive drunk, be the person who can totally remove that temptation. Make sure that you walk with your friend to the party, for example, or that you’re the one driving. If you are both going to drink, it should be up to you to arrange the ride home for the night. If your friend is drinking at your home, make sure that you have a couch ready for him or her to sleep it off. There should never be a vehicle present for your friend to drive.

Make or Break:
Finally, let your friend know that drinking and
driving is a make or break situation. If he or she doesn’t agree to catch another ride home, let him/her know that you won’t be going out again. It’s not always an easy thing to do to give a friend an ultimatum. Though it is necessary when it comes to something that is this important. If you don’t call your friend on his or her behaviour, you are enabling him or her to do something dangerous. Be strong enough to put your friendship on the line.

CONCLUSION:
Do whatever you can to stop your friend from drinking and driving. It may not always be pleasant, but it is necessary. When you put in the effort, you can stop a disaster.
