PoliticsOsun Election: Senator Adeleke Reacts To Appeal Court Judgement by Abdulazeez99(op): 7:27am On May 10, 2019
Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Osun 2018 Governorship Election said he had instructed his counsels to challenge the appeal court judgement which upheld Gov. Gboyega Oyetola’s election at the Supreme court, Igbere Tv reports.

Adeleke, in a statement made available to Igbere Tv newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday said he received the appeal court judgement with dissatisfaction.

According to him, the judgment of the appeal court relied on weak technical foundation, while the substantive issue which formed the basis of the lower tribunal judgement was relegated to the background.

“I received with dissatisfaction the judgement of the Court of Appeal on the ruling of the election petition tribunal which had duly returned me as the validly elected governor of Osun state.

“I have subsequently instructed my counsel to prepare for an appeal against today’s judgement at the Supreme Court immediately.

“Today’s judgement relied on weak technical foundation.

“The substantive issue which formed the basis of the lower tribunal judgement was relegated to the background.

“We are reviewing the full ruling and action has already commenced to appeal the judgement and ensure the eventual retrieval of the stolen mandate,” Adeleke said.

He, however, urged the people of the state not to be downcast, saying that the struggle for good governance and retrieval of People’s mandate cannot be truncated by any flawed judgement.

“We are taking the legal battle further to the topmost court in the land. I am confident the apex court will upturn today’s unsustainable ruling.

“To all members of PDP in Osun State and my campaign organisation, the struggle is now at the most critical stage.

“We cannot waiver nor slow down. We must forge ahead in high spirit until final victory is attained.

“In this endeavour, I promise to provide the leadership as the genuine governorship mandate holder in Osun State” Adeleke said.

PoliticsChijioke Chukwu Beats His Wife, Chinyere Chukwu In Abia (photos) by Abdulazeez99(op): 12:02am On May 10, 2019
Investigation by Igbere TV has revealed that Mrs Chinyere Chukwu, wife of Lawmaker-elect, Hon Chijioke Chukwu, is in an abusive relationship with her husband.

Chinyere, mother of two, is the second wife of Hon Chukwu.

Chukwu is member-elect representing Bende North State Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly.

He was elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the last House of Assembly election.

Sources told Igbere TV that Chinyere, who is an established businesswomen, has been enduring domestic violence for a long time in her marriage but matters have gotten worse lately, hence, the marriage is on the verge of breaking apart as the wife have decided to walk out of the marriage.

Prior to this moment, Chukwu has been described in the media as a calm and easy-going man.

Sources who are privy to the happenings within the Chukwus’ stormy marriage disclosed that, despite being a second wife, Chinyere is still submissive, respectful, homely, “which is very difficult to find among ladies these days.”

According to our source, Chinyere had continuously been battered by her ‘abusive husband.’

“Initially when she complained about the abusive nature of her husband, I was like ‘leave him alone now’, but we reasoned together and realised that the man wouldn't stop beating her.

“Sometime ago, her husband beat her up and dared her to report to any NGO or Government Agency, adding that nothing is going to come out of it.”

Igbere TV gathered that effort to salvage the relationship has been on blink as Chinyere had given up on Chukwu and a lot of people are advising her to leave the marriage.

Another source suggested that Chukwu, being a prominent politician, may have kept a promiscuous life which his wife probably opposed leading to the continuous battering, a claim Igbere TV could, however, not establish as at press time.

When contacted, Chukwu told Igbere TV that the allegations were not true, insisting that he has never had any fight with his wife. However, exclusive photos of Chinyere obtained by Igbere TV, showed her face including her eyes were puffy and full of tears, suggesting that she may have been truly battered by her husband who had earlier denied the report.

“Let the person who gave you my number give you my house address in Abuja, I have neighbours. Go and ask my neighbours, ‘what kind of person is this man?. Has he ever abused his wife, or has his wife been abusing him?’. When you are done with that, let that same person give you the name of the church I attend too in Abuja, and let my pastor speak with you.

“I believe once you are done with that, you will have no need to call me for a ‘balanced report’. My neighbours will give you a balanced report, and my pastor too.

“But when they finish speaking with you and you are not convinced, call me. I will give you names of two big personalities in the society for you to verify from. But I believe you will have no need to call me because all your questions must have been answered by my neighbours and my pastor.”

He, however, declared, “I have just managed a situation. If she can fight neighbours openly for no just cause, you can imagine what she can do at home.”

“I have never beaten her, I don't beat women, I have respect for them. But if I speak (with you), you will presume I am only trying to defend myself, so I shouldn't be the one talking, let my neighbours speak with you to find out the kind of person you are dealing with.”

But when our correspondent informed him that some of his neighbours have already been questioned, Chukwu interjected, saying, “then you would have known the truth by now.”

“I believe you went to the right address (house). I have lived there for five years, nobody even know that I stay there because I come in quietly and move out quietly...until she came.”

Reacting, Chinyere confirmed she was in an abusive relationship with her husband, but declined further comments on the issue.

“Did you speak with Hon. Chijioke himself?,” she queried. “Yes”, our correspondent responded.

“Well, I think he should be in a better position to answer your questions because ... (sic). Yes, I was in an abusive relationship with him. But that's all I can tell you now.”

However, when confronted with Chukwu’s claim that she fights her neighbours, Chinyere refuted the allegations insisting that she had never had any fight with her neighbours “till date.”

“I fight my neighbours?. Why will I fight my neighbours?. We stayed in a three bedroom apartment, so why will I go out and fight my neighbours for Christ sake? That's an accusation, I never fought my neighbours.”

Chinyere told Igbere TV that Chukwu ordered her to pack out of their home, following which she left the house, while declaring that she no longer speaks with her husband.

According to her, Chukwu gave instructions to his siblings to beat her up, and she was beaten.

She said: “He (Chukwu) drove me out of the house. Chijioke gave an order to his siblings to beat me up, and I was beaten. I know how many times Chijioke has beaten me. So I see no reason why he has to deny that.”

Asked about the genesis of the matter, Chinyere declared, “I wouldn't say more than that for the sake of my kids.”

PoliticsOrganized Labour Issues ‘attack On Sight’ Order Against Minister Ngige by Abdulazeez99(op): 11:17pm On May 09, 2019
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday declared total war against the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige over the attack by suspected thugs on union members that protested in his private residence in Abuja on Wednesday.

The NLC said the actions of the Minister was a clear indication that he was not fit to occupy public office and should, therefore, not be reappointed by the government.

Igbere TV reports that the NLC in its resolution read by the President, Ayuba Wabba directed workers to attack the Minister and any member of his family anywhere they were sighted.

Briefing journalists at the Labour House, the organized labour said that instruction had been given to workers at airports to attack Ngige and members of his family when sighted, adding that the Minister had been reported to national and international Labour organizations.

Our correspondent at the press conference quoted Wabba as saying that Labour was mobilized for a national protest that will take place in Abuja on Monday next week.

“We are coming prepared for him. The fundamental right of people to protest and assemble is sacrosanct. The Minister tried to undermine the rights of workers. His son attacked the workers.

“Anywhere and everywhere himself or members of his family is seen by workers, even at the airport where we have our workers, he should be attacked.

“We have formally reported to security agencies and given them the Police and the DSS,” he said.

Wabba said the Minister has no right to change the appointment made by the President on the excuse that he never recommended Chief Frank Kokori to head the NSITF board, adding that the real reason he is opposed to Chief Kokori was because the veteran labour leader cannot be compromised.

He said since the Minister has been talking about the issue of corruption in the NSITF, the government should putt in place a judicial commission of enquiry to investigate the agency so as to unravel who the actual corrupt persons are.

Igbere TV recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had last month replaced Kokori with Austin Enajemo-Isire, a Chartered Accountant, professional Insurance Executive, and Banker.

When contacted by Igbere TV, the Minister denied the allegation that he sent thugs to attack workers at his house in Abuja, insisting that the protesters (NLC) were hooligans who he was going to sue for arson.

He alleged that Wabba led people to his private residence at 4:30am on Wednesday morning and blocked both the entrance to his house and that of his neigbour with two tankers laden with petrol.

He said the workers did not only succeed in traumatizing the occupants of both houses which included children, they also succeeded in preventing his neigbour and his wife from doing their business for the day as they were presented from leaving their home.

Ngige said he will not be blackmailed by the NLC, insistence that the ex-labour leader, Frank Kokori, be allowed to head the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

He accused the NLC president of equating himself to President Buhari because he answers president of NLC, and sees the NLC as the secondary arm of government.

He, has, therefore said there will be no further distractions on the NSITF board as a new date was going to be fixed immediately for inauguration.

PoliticsIsmaila Yakubu Agba Killed In Kogi (APC Youth Leader) by Abdulazeez99(op): 9:52pm On May 05, 2019
Crises between two rival group in Anyigba Community, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State on Sunday led to the death of one Ismaila Yakubu Agba, a youth leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the locality.

Igbere TV reports that Agba was shot dead during a gun duel that lasted for several hours.

Although, as at the time of filing this report, the remote cause of the exchange of gun fire could not be ascertained, Igbere TV, however, gathered that the unidentified gun men started shooting around 10am, bringing the town’s activities to a halt.

According to our source, the APC youth leader until his death, was the head of the Kogi East district Cashew Produce of the Revenue Drive Department of Kogi State Government.

He was also the Chairman of Anyigba-Lagos loading point in the town.

The source stated that the militant group, suspected to be from rival leading political parties in the town stormed the enclave of the other party which turned out to be a ‘free for all’, leading to many receiving bullet wounds of various degree.

Igbere TV gathered that the crises may not be unconnected with the November 2 governorship election where both side are said to be doing rehearsal in the battle for supremacy.

When contacted, the Kogi State Police Public Relation Officer, DCP Williams Aya confirmed the incident, saying that only one person (Ismaila Yakubu Agba) died, with one Alhassan Idoko sustaining injury from the attack.

Aya, however, said it was not a political attack but a case of a culpable homicide perpetrated by unidentified gunmen, “which the command is already on their trail.”

Family“She Married My Best Man Without Divorcing Me”, Man Cries Out (photos) by Abdulazeez99(op): 1:23pm On May 05, 2019
39-year-old Nigerian man, Shola Motunbi has cried out after his wife, Marian got married to his best man, while they are still legally married and yet to divorce.

He accused his wife of betraying their marriage by getting married to a man who he said best him on their wedding day.

His words, “I am married to Marian Ekiomado, on August 6th 2016 both tradition and the white wedding took place, we also had marriage registry. However, a few months into our wedding I caught her with different text messages on her phone and discovered Facebook account with her boyfriends”.

“Whenever I leave the house she always removes the wedding frames from the house and invites her boyfriend in, meanwhile she has a little girl called Treasure that was her first daughter outside wedlock. Whenever I came home the daughter will tell me that daddy mummy removes the frame from the house and one brother came, she almost kills her daughter that night if not that I was around. After all the arguments the parent begged, and so I let go until again, I caught her chatting with a man she was having an amorous affair with on Facebook I confronted her and the mother, but she vehemently denied having anything to do with the man.

“But what got me suspicious was that after she was 3 to 4 months pregnant, having terminated 2 pregnancy in the name of stress. she called her younger brother to fight and injured me in the house and I left and returned after she delivered on the 5th September 2017, I went there just once to see the child with my family after then she refuses to take my calls and refuses to bring the child for me to see. These made me get suspicious the more and so demanded a DNA test which she and her parent refused, to my greatest surprise I receive a call on Saturday 27th of April 2019 that she’s getting married in her mother’s house at Sapele road (Benin). I later found that she was getting married to the man who bests me.”

Motunbi has since filed a suit in a magistrate court to seek redress in what he termed has “breach of marital laws.”

He, however, did not disclose the particular “law” to our correspondent.

When contacted, Marian denied the statement and refused to give detail information to confirm the veracity of Motunbi’s claim.

A source close to the Ekiamados, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, has however confirmed the story.

According to the source, “Marian has been dating her recently wedded husband long before she got married to Shola without his knowledge.”

“Their relationship grew stronger after Marian had succeeded in chasing Shola out of the house with thugs”, the source claimed.

PoliticsOutgoing Governor Amosun Seeks N350m Loan 3 Weeks To Handover by Abdulazeez99(op): 10:53pm On May 04, 2019
The Ogun State Government has concluded plans to obtain N350 million loan from the World Bank, Igbere TV reports.

Governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun disclosed this when he received a delegation of the World Bank in government house, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The loan, according to Amosun, would help create a system-driven environment for business, needed for better welfare of citizens and good governance.

He said his administration would do everything possible to secure the loan, saying the incoming administration already had the support needed to enhance good governance.

He urged the bank’s team to fast-track the process for its final approval.

Igbere TV reports that Amosun had, similarly, appointed over 1,000 workers into the state’s Civil Service and promoted 5,000 others barely a month to the end of his tenure.

He will hand over to Dapo Abiodun, the governor-elect, on May 29.

EducationUTME 2019: JAMB Reveals ‘real Reasons’ Why Results Are Not Out (find Out Here) by Abdulazeez99(op): 8:13pm On May 04, 2019
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has explained why it is yet to release the result of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

CG reports that the unsual delay has created room for anxiety and suspicion among candidates.

This is even as the board on Saturday, said 67 exam centres were delisted for various infractions during the recently concluded UTME, raising fears that results from these centres may be cancelled.

Speaking on the development, JAMB Spokesman, Fabian Benjamin told newsmen that they appreciate the anxiety and concerns of candidates.

He, however, requested that JAMB be allowed to do the necessary things before releasing the result.

He said that though results were released pretty much earlier in 2017 and 2018, it was necessary for the board to improve on its credibility this time around.

According to him, many candidates had in the past, escaped with illegitimate acts they perpetrated during the UTME exercise, but that won’t be allowed to continue.

He said JAMB would take its time and scrutinise the outcome of the exercise to ensure that tertiary institutions are proud of whatever they get from them, adding, “no (JAMB) server has crashed”.

PoliticsDSS Storms Hotel, Arrest 59 Commercial S3X Workers by Abdulazeez99(op): 5:15pm On May 04, 2019
Fifty-nine commercial sex workers have been arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) in Calabar, the Cross Rivers State capital.

This was disclosed by Ilupeju Adebayo, the DSS Director in Cross Rivers in a press briefing on Saturday.

He said those arrested were picked up around 2:15 a.m on Saturday.

According to him, those arrested are made up of 43 girls and 16 men.

Adebayo added that the sex workers were picked up at the Peace Garden Hotel and Papsi Place, located along Murtala Mohammed highway in Calabar.

The DSS Boss revealed that there was a cartel responsible for luring the girls and making them to swear to an oath of secrecy.

The oath, he said, involves a promise not to abscond no matter what or divulge information about the business.

“We got an intelligence report and swung into action. We have been on the matter for months. We discovered that the girls are mostly underage, mostly between the ages of 13, 15, and 19 years of age.

“We also know that they were brought in by a cartel, deeply involved in the business of trafficking and using the girls as commercial sex workers.

“The girls then bring returns to them at the beginning or close of the week, depending on their modus operandi.

“We have made some arrests including that of the owner of Papsi Place, a brothel that houses mostly underage girls who pay him N2,000 on week days and N4,000 at weekends as lodging fees.

“They operate from the hotel to clubs were we arrested them stark naked.

“We have contacted the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), while investigations are ongoing until all those involved in the illicit trade are arrested and charged to court,’’ he said.

Speaking to journalists, one of the girls, Adaeze Abam said she was brought to Calabar from Rivers under the guise of being given a sales girl job.

Abam however said she ended up becoming a commercial sex worker.

“I was brought to Calabar through a friend who told me that I will be given a job as a sales girl. She took me to a lady who I only know her name as Aunty Favour.

“They took me to a brothel at Atamu Street, Calabar South, from where I used to attend night clubs.

“I ran away and then they traced me and brought me back. They wanted to force me to take an oath but I objected and absconded again to meet my friend whom I came with to Calabar then.

“Aunty Favour came there with the boyfriend and some cult boys and beat me up, and told me that if I run again they will kill me or I will die.

“So, I usually go to her house to make returns to her every week. But I am not happy with the kind of work I am doing.

“It was never my intention to do this, because my friend did not tell me that it was this kind of job,’’ she lamented.

Edem John, one of the 16 men in custody and owner of Papsi Place, denied any wrong doing.

He claimed that he had been warning the underage girls not to come to his place for commercial sex.

John however added that because of the trying times, he had no choice but to be involved in the business.

“I have been doing this business for about two years. They pay me N2,000 for the accommodation where they have sex with men.

“Although I have been warning the underage ones to stay away from my place, but they still come back, and I need to do my business because I have a family to feed,’’ he said.

Politics“Prostitution Is A Sin..” Comment Sends Policeman Packing (Photos) by Abdulazeez99(op):
The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate redeployment of 'controversial' police officer, Abayomi Shogunle, Igbere TV has learnt.

Igbere TV gathered that Shogunle was redeployed to Nkalagu, Ebonyi State, May 3.

He was, until his redeployment, Head of the Police Force Public Complaint Response Unit (PPCRU).

Though reasons for his redeployment has not been made public yet, it may, however, not be unconnected with his controversial comments on social media which the Police said was unbecoming of an officer.

Sources at the Force headquarters in Abuja told Igbere TV that Shogunle was redeployed following series of complaints from “top officials.”

“He had been given several queries for his comments on controversial issues on social media,” a source said.

Igbere TV gathered that Shogunle’s comment on social media where he said “having sex in public is not an offense” did not go down well with the authorities.

He was said to have been served a query with a warning to stop dragging the name of the Force in the mud.

Sources at the Force headquarters also hinted that Shogunle’s social media post, where he advised Nigerians to resort to pidgin English in order to avoid extra judicial killings by reckless police officers also got the authorities worried.

It was gathered that his latest comment on the raid of prostitutes by the Federal Capital Development Authorities (FCDA), where he said prostitution is a sin, sent him packing to Ebonyi State.

“Those making noise on the clampdown on prostitutes in #Abuja;
• Prostitution is a crime under the law
• P is a sin under the 2 main religions of FCT residents
• Medicine says P is spreading HIV & STD
• P is lifeline of violent criminals
• P don’t pay tax
• Culture frowns at P”, Shogunle tweeted.

His tweet, however, did not go down well as he received several bashing from his followers who called on police authorities to do away with him.

It was gathered that Shogunle had received at least four official queries before being transferred from the Force headquarters.

When contacted, the Public Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba confirmed the report.

He, however, refused to state the reasons for his sudden redeployment.

“Shogunle has been transferred to Nkalagu, in Ebonyi State, as Area Commander,” Mba said.

PoliticsBREAKING: Court Sacks Another APC Reps Member-elect (see Why) by Abdulazeez99(op):
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday sacked Mr. Abdulrauf Modibbo, a House of Representatives member-elect, over “age falsification”, Igbere TV reports.

Modibbo was elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress to represent Yola South/Yola North/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State in the National Assembly.

His election was nullified by Justice Inyang Ekwo while delivering judgement in a suit filed by Mr. Mustapha Usman, challenging the election.

Igbere TV reports that Modibbo was declared winner of the APC primaries held on October 7, 2018 in Yola, and eventually represented the party in the 2019 general elections, which he was also declared winner.

Usman, however, dragged Modibbo to court after the election alleging that he falsified his age and was not eligible to contest the APC primaries.

He asked the court to disqualify Modibbo as APC candidate for Yola North/South Girei Federal Constituency.

Joined in the suit as defendants are the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Ekwo in his judgment declared that Modibbo was not qualified to contest the APC primaries as well as the 2019 House of Representatives election for the Federal Constituency.

The court held that Usman was the lawful winner of the primaries and candidate of the party for the constituency.

The judge further held that Usman had successfully proven beyond reasonable doubt that Modibbo falsified his age severally in order to contest the election.

He also noted that Usman was able to prove that Modibbo submitted the forged certificates for the purpose of contesting the party primaries.

The court also held that Modibbo was a serving National Youth Corps member when he contested the primary election saying the action breached Section 4 of the NYSC Act 2004.

The judge, therefore, declared that in view of the disqualification of Modibbo, Usman who polled the 2nd highest votes in the primary election was the lawful winner.

Justice Ekwo, thereafter, gave an order directing the APC and INEC to immediately replace Modibbo’s name with that of Usman as the lawful candidate of the APC for the federal constituency.

Foreign AffairsFinally, Former President To Be Questioned Over Money Laundering by Abdulazeez99(op): 8:45pm On May 03, 2019
Sudan’s authority has okayed the questioning of deposed president Omar Al-Bashir over money-laundering and “financing terrorism”, the country's prosecutor general says.

This is coming as protesters staged a rally in Khartoum to demand a civilian government.

A source in the prosecutor general’s office confirmed that acting prosecutor general, Al-Waleed Sayyed Ahmed had ordered Bashir’s questioning under “anti-money laundering and financing terrorism laws”.

Igbere TV reports that three weeks after Bashir was ousted by the military, protesters thronged Sudan’s army headquarters in Khartoum on Thursday for a “million-strong” march demanding a civilian administration.

Igbere TV learnt that the protesters gathered in even greater numbers than recent days, packing all the roads and bridges leading to the central Khartoum complex.

“Talks between protest leaders and the country’s military rulers (over possible transition to civilian rule) remained deadlocked,” Susan’s media reports.

Igbere TV recalls that the two sides have agreed to form a joint civilian-military council to rule Sudan, but are, however, at odds over its composition.

Protesters are demanding a civilian majority, while the military wants a council dominated by (army) generals.

The disagreement, Igbere TV gathered, prompted the protest leaders to call for a “million-strong” march to assert their demand.

“We want civilian rule and we will keep coming until that happens,” said a protester.

Foreign AffairsInsecurity: House Of Reps Pass Bill That Will Allow Teachers Carry Gun In Class by Abdulazeez99(op): 7:16pm On May 02, 2019
Florida’s House of Representatives has passed a controversial school safety bill that would allow teachers to carry guns on campus, CAMPUS GIST reports.

The bill with the aim of preventing massacre on campus, was passed on Wednesday following the deadly high school shooting in Parkland.

Out of the 112 Rep members, 47 voted against the bill while 65 voted to pass the bill after hours of debate. Florida’s Senate had earlier passed the bill with 22 against 17 votes last week.

Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to sign the bill into law, thereby, enabling schools to arm their teachers in class. However, such teachers are to undertake and pass a 144-hour compulsory training course.

CAMPUS GIST recalls that on 14 February, 2018, a former student armed with rifle opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people and wounding 17 others.

President Donald Trump and the National Rifle Association have argued that an armed teacher could provide the best defense against a shooter bent on mass murder.

Opposition leaders, however, questioned whether the solution to gun violence should be the presence of even more guns, and warned of the danger of a teacher misfiring during a crisis or police mistaking an armed teacher for an assailant.

If signed into law, all schools will be required to place at least one armed staff member or law-enforcement officer in each classroom.

The bill also imposed a three-day waiting period for gun purchases and raised the age limit for buying rifles from 18 to 21.

Although security personnel were allowed to carry weapons on campus before now, guns were, however, banned from classrooms.

Sponsors of the bills argued that school shootings often erupt too quickly in classrooms for law enforcement agencies to respond.

“Already, school teachers in 40 of Florida's 67 counties have enrolled for the 144-hour course,” a Spokesman for the Florida’s House of Representatives said.

PoliticsSupport Lawan And Gbajabiamila Or Leave APC - Tinubu by Abdulazeez99(op): 3:47pm On Mar 31, 2019
Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, said that party discipline would be upheld in addressing the leadership tussle of the 9th National Assembly.

Mr Tinubu said this while speaking with newsmen in Lagos on Friday after a Prayer Programme organised by Islamic and Christian clerics to mark his 67th birthday, Igbere Tv reports.

The ruling APC recently endorsed the candidature of Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“Party discipline is key, we must be discipline in the party. We were a little careless in 2015. We created the opportunity for serpent to get into our party and that did not allow Nigeria to make the desired progress.

“You have seen the result of it and we are not going to allow that to happen again. We are going to respect our party and we are going to apply the whip.

“It is either you stay with us or you follow us or you leave. You have the freedom to choose but the freedom does not give you as a minority to go and collaborate and protrude our mandate given to you to another party who was our opposition and who is still our opposition.

“We would not take that this time, no matter who you think you are. That is how it is built. Why do you want to deviate from what has been structured?

“We look at our reward system equally, zone by zone,” he said.

Crime18-year-old Girl Raped And Strangled To Death In Enugu by Abdulazeez99(op): 10:53am On Mar 28, 2019
An 18-year-old girl, Ngozi Eze, has been raped to death by unknown persons in Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Igbere Tv learnt that the deceased’s body was found in a bush behind Community Secondary School, Imufu, several hours after her family went to the police to report a case of a missing person.

Father of the deceased, Jonathan Eze-Eze, who could not hold back tears after he saw his daughters body in the bush, said he took her on his motorcycle to the Township School, Ogrute, Enugu Ezike, where she went for JAMB lessons on Tuesday evening and went back later to pick her only to be informed that somebody had given her a lift.

According to Eze; “I left Township School, Ogrute and went home straight, hoping to see her but she wasn’t there. We waited till 8 pm and started looking for her. “She was not the type that normally socialises. We did not sleep as her telephone number was switched off. It was only this morning (Wednesday) that we got information that her corpse was found here.

“She was to enter the university last year when she completed her secondary education but we prevailed on her to exercise patience for her elder brother to graduate because we cannot afford to train two persons in the university. Since then, she has been working hard to gain admission this year, but this is what has now happened.”

Igbere Tv gathered that Police detectives who came to evacuate her remains, said that close observation showed lacerations around her neck and ankles, suggesting that she must have been strangulated by her rapists, even as some of her books, pens, handkerchief and shreds of her clothing were scattered around the scene.

CrimeSuspected Rapists, Don-chima George And Olusegun Rasak, Arraigned In Court (pic) by Abdulazeez99(op): 7:37am On Mar 28, 2019
Justice Abiola Soladoye of an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court has fixed April 29 rulefor the hearing of the bail application of two men, Don-Chima George, 25, and Olusegun Rasak, 28, charged with drugging and gang-raping a 24-year-old woman in a hotel in Lekki, Lagos, Igbere Tv reports.

At the commencement of proceedings today, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecution in Lagos state, Dr Jide Martins, told the court that George and Rasak, who are drop-outs of Babcock University, committed the offences on February 3rd between 5am and 7am at Delankaster Hotels at Lekki Phase 1.

They took their victim to a night club on the said day. While at a nightclub, the defendants allegedly spiked the complainant’s drink with a substance that rendered her unconscious.

They allegedly took the complainant to George’s father’s hotel, raped her in turns while videotaping the sexual offence. According to the prosecution, the offences contravened Sections 258 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Counsel to the suspects, Mr Tunji Ayanlaja (SAN), via a March 12 summons for bail, applied for the defendants’ bail. He also noted that the prosecution had filed a counter-affidavit, objecting to the defendants bail application “because of the social status of the defendants’ parents.”

But Martins, who confirmed that he had filed a counter-affidavit dated March 26, opposed him.
He noted that the alleged offences were severe and attract a life sentence if the defendants are found guilty.

According to him, if George and Rasak are granted bail, there is high likelihood of them interfering with witnesses.

Politics"Osun State Is Sick And Can’t Afford To Pay The New Minimum Wage" — Monarch by Abdulazeez99(op): 4:01pm On Mar 24, 2019
Rasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland, and also a flamboyant Nigerian monarch, has said the Osun State Government might not be able to sustain its current wage bill let alone pay the new N30, 000 minimum wage unless it overhauls the civil service, Igbere Tv reports.

The monarch who expressed concern about the new minimum wage bill passed by the Senate, while many states were still struggling to pay N18, 000 to the least paid workers, said the state civil service was over-bloated and needed a complete overhaul.

“Osun is sick. The governor, Oyetola, may not be able to say this truth because he is a politician. But I am a royal father. I should be good to tell the truth always. It will be tough for the state to pay the new minimum wage, unless there is a complete overhaul of the civil service.

“The current wage bill of the state government cannot be sustained. The civil service needs overhaul. A situation whereby 26 drivers will be attached to two vehicles must stop,l" the monarch said.

As part of ways out of the situation, the royal father said unproductive civil servants must be made productive by government and be deployed where their skills would be useful.

“Also, aggressive revenue generation through internally generated revenue, especially from the informal sector, would be of help to government," he added.

EventsKenyan Man Who Spent N1.7M On His Son's Birthday Begs For Financial Assistance by Abdulazeez99(op): 10:06am On Mar 21, 2019
A Kenyan man identified as Douglas Otieno Owila, made headlines in September 2016 when he spent a huge amount of money to celebrate his son’s birthday. Sadly, he is now in deep financial distress and is asking for donations, Igbere Tv reports.

Igbere Tv had learnt that Mr. Owila spent KSh 500,000 ( over N1.7 million ) on his son’s birthday almost three years ago and the celebration featured on local blogs. The extravagant birthday bash went on for three days and had the young boy entertained by traditional dancers while surrounded by heavy security men.

But, on March 19, 2019, Owila was arrested and detained at Kodiago GK Prisons where he spent the night on Tuesday after he failed to raise KSh 100,000 (over N355K) bond to secure the release of a friend.

The politician had given his motorbike logbook as surety which he later sold, prompting a Kisumu court to order his immediate arrest. His situation became worse when the accused person failed to show up for court sessions throughout the period in which the case went on.

By close of business on Wednesday, March 20, his family and friends had only raised KSh 70,000. The plea for financial assistance continues on Facebook to secure his release.

PoliticsJUST IN!!! Senate President: Hausa Community Endorse Kalu by Abdulazeez99(op): 8:03pm On Mar 15, 2019
By Alade James

For the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the storm gathers once again. Just as the party savours its victory in a bitterly-fought presidential election that President Muhammadu Buhari won, clouds of crisis hover over it as the jockeying for principal positions in the National Assembly begins.

By virtue of Section 64(1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, the 8th National Assembly expires by effusion of time on June 8. Barring last minute development, Buhari, going by precedent, is expected to proclaim the 9th National Assembly into being on June 9, 2019.

Orji Kalu Addressing Diplomats
However, barely have winners emerged in the National Assembly elections than newly-elected lawmakers, comprising returning members and first termers with enough heft to swing things their way, have started positioning themselves for the leadership positions of the National Assembly.

At stake are the following positions: Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Majority Leader, Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip, among others.

But while the lawmakers are lining up themselves for the various leadership positions in the legislature, the APC, which is expected to play a crucial role in who gets what, unlike in the 2015 race, is playing it close to its chest.

In 2015, the APC, then a rainbow of political forces determined to wrest power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), badly managed the process and this led to the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki, a powerful politician from Kwara, as the Senate President. He won
despite efforts by the party to stop him. The APC officials were determined to work for the emergence of Senator Ahmad Lawan from the North-East.

Their inability to assert any authority to rally party members behind Lawan was aided by Buhari’s now famous quotation in his presidential inaugural address in which he spoke about being for nobody and being for everybody.

The party lethargy, arguably due to its inexperience in managing the complexity of national politics, as the key decision makers in the party were hitherto little emperors in their tribal political hegemonies whose words were laws to other party members, provided the leeway for Saraki to outfox the APC.

Saraki, a two-term governor of Kwara State under PDP and former Chairman, Nigerian Governors Forum, tapped into his PDP root to beat APC leaders at their own game of intrigues. As part of the bargaining chips, he traded off the deputy Senate Presidency for the support of opposition senators, whose numerical strength was crucial in picking a Senate President.

While 51 out of about 66 APC senators were at the International Conference Centre, Abuja for a controversial meeting whose convener(s) remain(s) unknown to the public till date, the 57 senators at the maiden sitting unanimously elected Saraki as the Senate president.

The absentee senators barely made it back to the National Assembly for the inaugural sitting only to witness PDP’s Ike Ekweremadu who expectedly defeated APC and Ali Ndume, in a contest that gave a legal veneer to the horse-trading between Saraki and PDP.

That is why the APC cannot fritter away a second chance to manage the process better this time.

Before the 2015 elections were won and loss, the expectation was that the APC would back a South-East lawmaker as Senate President or House Speaker. With the president from the North and the vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo, from the South-West, conceding either of the two positions to the South-East seemed the logical step in conformity with Nigeria’s power rotation system that aims to quell fears of marginalisation among the federating units by ensuring equitable distribution of power and its appurtenances among the six geopolitical zones.

However, the poor performance of APC in the South-East, a traditional stronghold of PDP, derailed that expectation. All the federal lawmakers from the five states in the geopolitical zone were PDP members.

Even the five Igbo who won election to the House in Lagos State, dominated by the APC, did so on the platform of PDP. But for the Saraki deal with PDP that birthed the Ekweremadu Senate deputy presidency, the South-East would have been out of the power loop in a nation were strong ethnic sentiments drive relationship between constituent states and the federal government.

And now that the first stanza of the 2019 general election is over with APC even improving on its 2015 records, the party is on the cusp of another crisis.

The performance of the APC in the South-East in the recent election has thrown up a spectre of the marginalisation of the geopolitical in the power equation. However, unlike in 2015, the geopolitical zone has produced two APC senators and could get another one should Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu win his re-election bid for the Imo North Senatorial District. INEC declared the contest inconclusive on February 23 and rescheduled the conclusion for March 9. Uwajumogu won his reelection, making him, arguably the most favoured APC senator from the South-east to become a principal officer in the Senate.

In the presidential election, the five states in the geopolitical zone also gave Buhari 403,242 votes, up from the 198,248 votes he got in 2015. The incoming senators, former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the outgoing Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, and Uwajumogu should present an opportunity for the APC not to tread the 2015 path.

Like Okorocha in Imo State, Kalu was instrumental to the impressive showing APC put up in the National Assembly election in his Abia State. Apart from winning his senatorial seat, he played a key role in the election of two APC members, Benjamin Kalu of Bende Federal Constituency and Nkeiruka Onyejeocha of the Isikwuuato/Umunneochi, into the House of Representatives. He also delivered his Bende Local Government to Buhari who beat PDP’s Atiku Abubakar by 9,233 votes to 6,649.

However, unlike Okorocha, Kalu, by virtue of his election on the platform of the now defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) into the 593-member House of Representatives in the July 4, 1992 to herald the aborted Third Republic, could be considered a ranking senator.

The ranking rules confer on former House members same privileges as former senators. Should Kalu choose to bid for the post, it certainly will not be a picnic but he is eminently qualified.

Although many may argue that power distribution should be seen as a reward for electoral performance, the danger in that narrative is that it foists on the polity a winner-takes-all mentality that negates the principles of fairness and equity enunciated by the nation founding fathers.

In addition, we should start shifting away from the divisive policy of punishing voters for their choices. The moment the election is over, winners such as president and governors should forget about who voted for them or against them by ensuring an equitable distribution of political power.

The APC would gain more from running an inclusive government that gives the South-East a better sense of belonging in the federation than the 2015 attempts that seek to punish the geopolitical zone for voting against the party. If the tokenism of the Buhari first term could
pave the way for the improvement in the party’s performance in 2019 in the South-East, giving the zone a greater chance in running the nation’s affair will enhance the incremental progress APC is making in the geopolitical zone.

Perhaps this is the time for the president to give life to his promise while collecting his certificate of return, to run an inclusive government.

PoliticsBREAKING!!! INEC Postpones House Of Assembly Election (see Why) by Abdulazeez99(op): 8:39pm On Mar 08, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the House of Assembly Election for the Nasarawa/Binyeri State Constituency of Adamawa, Igbere TV has learnt.

Igbere TV gathered that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mr Kashim Gaidam, revealed this to newsmen on Thursday in Yola.

Gaidam said that the postponement became necessary following the death of a member of the assembly, who was candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.

Igbere TV reports that the APC candidate, Mr Adamu Kwanate, until his death on Wednesday, was the member representing the constituency.

Igbere TV had earlier reported that the late Kwanate collapsed while campaigning for his re-election, and died later in an hospital in Yola.

Gaidam said that the postponement would allow APC and people of the constituency to find a replacement.

“We received a letter from the party and the House of Assembly regarding the death of the candidate and we have replied, giving them one week to find a replacement.

“We will communicate their replacement to the headquarters to fix a new date for the election,” Gaidam said.

PoliticsAbia 2019: “ikpeazu Gets More Confused” — AYGG by Abdulazeez99(op): 12:28pm On Mar 07, 2019
Ahead of Saturday's Governorship and State House of Assembly election in Abia State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has been accused of being desperate to win at all cost, Igbere TV reports.

This was as a group, Abia Youths for Good Governance (AYGG), warned that such acts of desperation must be resisted by all.

In a statement by the group's Co-ordinator, Ben Akaranta, and made available to Igbere TV, AYGG said the governor has been dishing out threats to innocent voters in a bid to cow and intimidate them.

He quoted Ikpeazu as saying he would make the state ungovernable if he loses re-election.

Akaranta accused Ikpeazu of concluding plans to kidnap the Returning Officer for the election, and force him to announce already prepared results.

Full Statement,

“In another desperate move to sway innocent Abia youths, Ikpeazu holds an urgent meeting with Ukwa Ngwa youths and subtly, dished out another threat.

“He said, “I know I will loose the election if properly policed, but be ready for riots and ungovernable situation in the state.”

“This is what happens when you take up mantle of leadership unprepared, and after 4yrs, you couldn’t do anything for the state and not even to the collective people, whom you got into power by their agreed quota in the name of equity.

“Our source also revealed that Ikpeazu plans to kidnap the returning officer for the Saturday election, keep him where he willl announce the fake result he has already prepared.

“It’s no more news that electoral sensitive and non sensitive materials has wrongly entered the hands of Abia State PDP led government. And we have also heard it from reliable sources that thumb-printing of ballot papers are on going in a lot of PDP stalwarts houses across the state.

“In Isuikwuato, it’s said to be in Chief Greg Ibe’s house in Uturu, the TC chairman’s house, Chima Agbaeze. While in Umunneochi LGA, the PDP are thumb-printing in Chief Chris Odinaka Igwe’s house. Same In Umuahia, where Hon. Chinedu Orji and his father T. A. Orji are doing same in hotels. This is a practice across the state.

“The Abia people will resist any form of rigging the Saturday’s election by the PDP State government, the security agencies should as a matter of urgency, beam their search light towards the Abia PDP chieftains.

“We will not allow another 4 years of stagnation, unpaid salaries and wages of civil servants and negligence of the pensioners, who devoted their lives in serving the State but ended up being left to die in abject poverty by the PDP led State government,” the statement read.
