day 3: laying of foundation block: expected number of block for the foundation = 1600blocks size of foundation block = 9" mix ratio of mortar = 1 : 6 ( one bag to twelve head pan of sand) about ten good bricklayer were employed for this task, each with responsibility to lay 100 blocks daily. this approach was used to allow for proper supervision of the block wall. observation: one bag of cement was able to lay between 45-50 blocks the mason were mandated to use top and side line in other to have a straight and uniform level throughout the foundation. here are the pictures below

resumption of work after two weeks delay due to some technical issues. day 1: job description : 50mm blinding to column/pad/isolated footing the mix ratio of the blinding = 1:3:6 thickness of blinding = 50mm (2" ![]() calculate number of bags to be used = 10bags actual bags used due to increase in the size of footing =12bags

daviejay:without a proper soil test no land or foundation can said to be ok for foundation of a building the reason been that soil exhibit lot of complex properties. soil text may not be recommended for small building project like yours but sufficient depth of atleast 600mm is recommended for a bungalow built with load bearing partition wall. soil within abuja and its environs has high clay contents, during the raining season, the soil closer to the ground exhibit wetness because the clay doesn't allow the water to sink down into the ground ( creating a fadama kind of ground). During the dry season the soil quickly dries up to give an impression of solid soil or ground for foundation. |
daviejay:The stress of using block to do setting out is very high and the error involve is great....block setting is wrong and people assumed its cost effective but using peg and profile to do setting out is the best bet |
adamskutty:i am a staunch buhari supporter but comment like this shows how irrational, insensitive and stupid some people can be. A wife of a president that 175m Nigerians believe in, 175m whose majority live in extreme poverty, live on less than a dollar per day voted to change their life.....we need more from such a figure |
mufutau55:thank you sir... |

completion of the soakaway foundation

the making of the raft beam foundation for the soakaway foundation: 8bags of cement was used for the casting @ N2,100/nr = N 16,000 four plank of wood @ N1,000/nr = N4,000 total = N20,000 workmanship: 2 nr of iron bender @ N4,000/nr = N8,000 3 labour @ N2,000/nr = N6,000
|
Iron work for the raft beam : 12nr of Y12 was use @ N1,200/nr = N14,400 4nr of Y10 was use as links @ N1,000/nr = N4,000 Iron work For the six supporting column the height of the column is 3m 8Y12 was used as main reinforcement = N9,600 4Y10 was used as the link = N4,000 binding wire = N3,500 Total on material = N35,500 |
procedure 1. the pit digging was done manually by 3 men for a period of three days at a cost of N35,000. we encountered some problem due to rainfall and the poor strength of the soil. 2. Due to anticipated poor bearing capacity of the soil, a raft beam was used as the foundation of the soak away, this cost was not allowed for during the planning process for the job

the soakaway/septic tank system Due to land constrain the septic tank has a dimension of 7ft x 15ft x 10ft, the dimension of pit dug to accommodate this structure was 10ft x 186ft x 12ft. the extral dimension was to allow for ease of work and movement into the system. Material for the soak away/septic tank includes the following 1. 3/8 sharp sand as both the coarse and fine aggregates in the concrete 2. dangote portland cement 3. High yield bar of 12mm as main reinforcement and 10mm bar as links 4. soft plank as formwork |
project location : chokocho, Port Harcourt, Rivers state. project description : construction of a sewage disposal system soak away/ septic tank, completion of ongoing 6 flat on self contain job duration : one month. |
spenpe:those areas have the largest uneducated nigerlite population in minna...they love trouble die. I was shocked to see them burn down my favourite roundabout in minna |
spenpe:i was in fut minna when those houses were constructed... wind blew those houses because they were poorly built and lack wind breaker trees...overall talba tried small within minna metropolis with all the roads and round about but outside minna that man deserve a jail term |
spenpe:i have to kwara several time bacuse my wife is from ilorin... kwara is still better than minna, though i hate the emir and saraki |
goodgate:he was as bad as talba and very sentimental at best....david umar could have been the best but he was not allowed because of religion |
spenpe:i love those roundabout with tv especially the one at mobil....i blame those stupid that burned it down during subsidy period. Aliyu didn't do much n term of infrastructure development but je made minna and Niger state relatively peaceful because he was detribalised and believe all nigerlite including settlers can live together in peace and harmony. Unlike tribal bigot abdulkadir kure ( the nupe from lapai) who was busing sharing money among his nupe brothers and busy forcing religions inclined reform on people of a very religiously diverse state. in summary, talba was much better than kure only the singular reason that kure was an ethnic bigot |
spenpe:i am from suleja.... this man is a big criminal, in his eight years no single road was built outside the state capital Minna |
MeAboki:must you bring religion into every issue?. Buhari is the president of 170million Nigerians, some of which are Muslim, christian, atheist etc. Eat has much as you can the people's general |
adanny01:i love that sir. |
alpontif:bross, i love critics and criticism only when it is positive. I don't know it all, we all learn everyday. thanks for your complement |
pinkbee:i am not really spoiling market for them ma...i just believe they work better on bigger building projects, large civil engineering structures like dams, tunnels, bridges, rail line, dredging work and road work...but for small building projects for average Nigeria, N30,000 should be enough to four level point on a site |
