The unknown gunmen who have been given a pet name "umuchukwu" in the Southeastern part of Nigeria strikes yesterday in the amaokoro community in okponakuma, nkume, in Njaba LGA Imo State.

For several times, they have been parading the Eze VC Duru road along the timber market close to the military check point, asking the where about if one prominent and current supervisory council in Njaba LGA Imo State, Hon. Maxwell Isimmiri .

Peter Obi is a presidential candidate, one of the three leading men seeking to lead Nigeria in 2023. Obi touts himself, and is touted by his supporters, as a unique Nigerian politician who does not give money to voters to get voted into power. Bribing voters is a criminal offense, but as far as I can tell, neither givers nor takers of money-for-votes have ever been prosecuted. It is a practice that permeates every aspect of running for office in Nigeria. Every politician does it, except Peter Obi, of course.

Obi couches his refusal to give money to voters on two grounds. First, according to Obi, those who bribe voters do not bribe voters with their own personal fortunes. They use money stolen from the public treasury to do so. In other words, they steal our money, give us a pitiance from what they have stolen in order to get elected so they can steal even more money than what they had stolen earlier. Put prosaically this way, money-for-votes is even more sordid than it appears to be. As voters, we are given a little of what belongs to us so we can grant licenses to those who give us a pitiance of what belongs to us to steal all they can steal.

Obi’s second reason for refusing to give money to voters is that he is not desperate to become our president. Those who bribe voters do so because they are desperate to steal more from the voters. To be sure, Obi said that he was desperate to save Nigeria, but he is not desperate to want to savage the country by stealing its money. Obi is desperate, but he is not desperate to steal. He is merely desperate to save Nigeria from rapacious money-for-votes politicians. This is a principled stand that ought to be applauded by all patriotic Nigerians.

I think we should go beyond the principled stand of one man against bribing voters to get elected. We need to interrogate Obi for him to reveal the secrets of his successes. Obi was twice elected governor of Anambra State. If his principle held when he twice ran for the office, he did not give anyone a single Naira to win his party’s nominations and to go on to win the governorship. Twice. Voters presumably just looked at Obi, heard his high-pitched voice and concluded that this billionaire was different from other politicians. Obi would not give them money, but they trusted him enough to vote for him, anyway. His sincerity must have shown brighter than the sun. Are Anambra voters different from their other Nigerian counterparts? Are Anambra voters people who are willing to forgo a few thousand Naira in their pockets for the greater glory of more schools, prompt payment of salaries, jobs, roads and hospitals? Are the Anambra electorates more enlightened than other Nigerian voters?

In his condemnation of politicians who give money to voters to get elected, did Peter Obi exempt Atiku Abubakar from this seedy and slimy behavior? If he did, I must have missed that. Obi ran as Atiku’s vice-presidential candidate in 2019. Was Atiku privy to the Obi dictum of no money for votes? Did Atiku refused then to give anyone money because Obi would have frowned at it? If Atiku did his thing, did Obi go along with whatever Atiku was presumably doing because Atiku was the presidential candidate and Obi was merely Atiku’s running mate? Obi needs to educate us on how he ran his vice-presidential campaign without making party leaders happy and satiated with Naira.

The calculus of money-for-votes is a very simple one. Voters are convinced that despite whatever politicians may say, their sole intent in seeking public office is to use it as an instrument for the private capital accumulation. Voters therefore serve as tollbooth collection agents. They collect the tolls to allow the politician-motorists to get through the tollbooth. Voters recognize that they are not going to be carried along to the kleptocratic kingdom of the politicians. They are aware that after passing through the electoral gates, the politicians will become inaccessible and untouchable. Therefore, from the voters’ thinking, it is better to get some now than nothing later. The 1000 Naira bird at hand is worth hundreds of thousands of Naira birds in the bush.

Money-for-votes takes place within a context of uncertain futures for voters. If the future was certain, a voter would be patient to reap the dividends of democracy through good governance, but if the future looks dark, gloomy and foreboding, voters would calculate that a one thousand Naira note at hand today is worth more than pious hopes of a million Naira tomorrow. If tomorrow is uncertain, nothing about it can be certain.

Money-for-votes is equally prevalent in an environment of mutual distrust between candidates and the electorates. Neither trust the other. Added to this is political apathy. Ironically, money-for-votes accentuates the scope and the magnitude of political apathy.

How then has Peter Obi overcome all these obstacles to be trusted with votes without giving money to voters and to party officials? If Obi reveals to us the secret or secrets that allowed him to successfully run twice as a gubernatorial candidate and once unsuccessfully as a vice-presidential candidate without giving shishi to anyone, even if he does not win the presidency next year, he would have accomplished his primary objective of seeking to save Nigeria. I am not Obidiently waiting, but I am eager to hear of Obi’s secret charm that seals the mouths of Nigerian voters and compels them not to stretch out their arms to demand money in return for their votes whenever Peter Obi’s name is on the ballot.

I have been friends with my male friend for over 11years now, so he is more like a brother to me! He got married 3yrs ago, But we live in the same district, I do visit them once in a while! And I usually bump into his wife at market places, malls or on the street due to the fact that we live in the same district.

My friend is hardly around for the past few Weeks due to the fact that he do travel for work. . .But recently I have been seeing his wife with a Man just about the age of my friend, I have seen them together at the mall for 3 times now for a period interval of 3 weeks, I usually dodge and escape myself so they won't see me! The last time I saw them together I took a sneak pictures of them, I don't know this man, I have never seen him when I visit them, he is not a family member! I have been curious so I feel I should call the attention of my friend to this and send him the pictures too!

Should I tell him about it or what? I am confused!

I was taken aback by your level of understanding. This only goes a long way to state why it is paramount that leaders surround themselves with critical minded persons in order to be successful.

In my piece where I cautioned you to be mindful of your leaking tongue, I never hesitated to mention very clearly that the church forbids her clergy from going into partisan politics without permission.

However, I went further to state unequivocally that engagement in partisan politics does not amount to laicization (dismissal) of a clergy. This I backed up strongly numerating the sections of Canon Law that have to do with offences that can warrant outright dismissal from the clerical state.

Your inability to understand that simple and straight forward presentation casts a shadow of doubt on many minds as to your mental ability to engage in sound discourse capable of helping your principal navigate through administrative landmines. No wonder he feels you are unfit to replace him in office.

You gave yourself a fat credit in what you think priests should be thinking. May I remind you very quickly Mr. Akase, that you are not a priest and can never be one, at least not in the Mother Church. You can only imagine the thinking patern of a priest which may remain a million miles apart from reality.

In that same shallow, baseless and shameless outing, bereaved of ecclesiastical quidity, you referred to Fr. Alia as an apostate priest. This singular expression betrays your claim of knowledge on issues of Catholicism. I beg that you stop feeding the public with Canonical and Doctrinal junks. Nemo dat quod non habet ( you cannot give what you don't have)

I explained to you in my earlier piece that Apostacy as known and understood by the teaching of the Mother Church is a grave offence. It has to do with total renunciation of ones faith in God and in the Mother Church and everything the Church stands for. The punishment for it is laicization and excommunication at the same time if the offender is a clergy of the first degree (sacerdotes).

So, where then lies your claim that I was selective in quoting the Canon Law to suite my narrative?

Now, the question hanging loose on many logical lips is, is Fr. Alia guilty of apostacy as you alleged? Is he an apostate priest as you referred to him in that piece? These were the careless and unknowledgeable statements you made that attracted our attention and warranted the note of caution.

As to your claim that the Governor takes the Catholic Church seriously and has done marvelous things for the church, you lack the locus to make such assertion. You are an unredeemable propagandist of this administration and therefore must never be a judge in your own case (Nemo iudex in causa sua) We do not hope to benefit from a vague system. Ex nihilo nihifit (out of nothing, nothing comes)

When the Church was carried along during the administrations of Akume and Suswam, it was very obvious and there was no room for arguments. Not now that those in government only go out there to receive the so called mega pastors who fly into the state in private jets but have the guts to look down on the rest of us.

When things were normal between the Church and the state, all Benue priests at home and in diaspora knew and felt the impact. We are no morons. Say these things to market women.

Your allegation that we have failed to advise Fr. Alia is unfounded. May I remind you Mr. Akase, that what we have told our colleague Fr. Alia in private is not meant for your consumption.

As to whether we want to turn the Catholic Church against the Governor, this is laughable. Catholics are among the unpaid civil servants in the state. They are among the dead and dying pensioners, they are also among those been killed through abject poverty just like every other person in the state. May I remind you Sir, that the laity feels the effect of bad administration more than us. Do we really need to tell them that some persons are kneeling on their neck with the intention to watch them die gradually but surely? Do we need to tell them that these persons killing them are being defended by propagandist and that you are one of them? Our people are not that timid. They know you guys.

Having said that, I must maintain here that I regret joining issues with you. It was not necessary. But note it down that we are no fools.

Engage Fr. Alia positively. He is into a contest with you. But when you say the wrong things about him and the Church, you would leave us with no option than to step in here and tell our people the right thing.

For instance, were we supposed to keep quiet and allow you teach people wrongly about the doctrine of apostacy? Or were we to keep quiet and listen to you drag the Blessed Virgin Mary into the political ring? Your claim to have been educated by the Catholic Church is to be further examined.

Bianca Ojukwu Shares About Her Encounter With Peter Obi’s ‘Stinginess’

Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of the late Biafran leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, has shared the moment, she encountered the ‘stingy’ nature of the Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, had on Wednesday, described Obi as a stingy man and his comments elicited harsh reactions from his supporters.

In a post on her Facebook page titled, ’On Peter Obi’s supposed ‘Stinginess’...’ the matriarch, recalled when Obi, then, a governor of Anambra State, visited Texas and had refused to buy a designer suit for an event instead opting for a $220 suit.

She said, “The suit that was a perfect match for him was a dapper Tom Ford suit with a price tag of 3,985 dollars plus tax. He did the calculations and told me ‘Do you know how many students this amount of money can train in Nigeria?

“To cut the story short, he refused to pay what he termed ’that outrageous price’ for the Tom Ford suit and that was how we ended up at Steinmart where he agreed to pay a more acceptable price of 220 dollars, tax inclusive, for a basic men’s suit which he was happy to wear to that evening’s event.

“What struck me, was that as we were on the way to the airport to see him off for his return flight back to Nigeria, he reached for his pocket where he brought out an envelope of crisp hundred dollar bills. The amount in the envelope was 3,800 dollars.

"He said ‘Anyanwu, this is the balance of the money I would have paid for the ‘Ford’ suit. If the label on the suit was ‘Peter Obi’, I am wondering if anybody in America will pay that amount for it. I have deducted the amount we paid for that suit we eventually bought. Please use this balance for your Charity foundation to help those in actual need. I trust you will do so’. We all laughed heartily. Vintage Peter Obi!”

Mrs Ojukwu went on to list the beneficiaries of Obi’s gift via her foundation.

Don’t Cry for Titus Uba

Ordinarily, Titus Uba should be flying high. He is the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly. His political party, the PDP, has nominated him to fly its gubernatorial flag in the 2023 election. He started out as the unlikeliest candidate among the heavyweight contenders, but Uba towered above all of them in the end. Uba has received the staunch support of the incumbent governor, Ortom Adorogo, on his quest to become Ortom’s successor. All these factors in the best of times ought to put a permanent smile on Uba’s chubby face. Uba is supposed to be grinning from one ear to the other. He is supposed to stride across the political terrains of Benue with the haughtiness and the arrogance of a colossus.

These are however, not the best of times for Uba. He is a Lilliputian where he should be a towering giant. His campaign is drowning on confusion and emptiness. His public appearances rather than bolster support for his candidacy, reinforce the general impression that the governorship will be beyond Uba’s capabilities. He appears awkward. He is a Speaker who cannot speak beyond a few cliches and humorless quips. Uba is derided for what he thought would be a gesture of humility, going down on his knees. In place of being seen as a sign of humility, Uba’s knees on the ground have come to symbolize his emptiness, his lack of vision, and his willingness to kowtow to the hated Ortom Adorogo. Uba’s knees figuratively choke instead of elevating him on a pedestal of respectability.

Uba is an object of pity, but not many people in Benue will feel sorry for Uba. Even those in his corner treat him as if he was an slowpoke. Ortom reportedly urged Benue to embrace the Uba candidacy because if Uba was elected, he, Ortom, would hire consultants to run the Uba administration for Uba. Such a demeaning statement ought to have come from Uba’s opponents as sarcasm designed to elicit laughter and derision at a campaign rally, but it reportedly came from Uba’s benefactor and staunchest ally. With friends like these…

As the leader of the legislative assembly, Uba has not shown any pity for anyone. Not for teachers starved of their salaries. Not for retirees who are owed 72 months of their retirement benefits. Not for civil servants who are still owed salaries from five years ago. Not for students who had to pay scholarship fees and neither the scholarships paid nor the application fees refunded. Uba has not spoken for, and on behalf of anyone in Benue. Even as a gubernatorial candidate, he has not spoken to any of the cries of anguish, hunger and deprivation that envelope the entire Benue, from Konshisha to Ogbadibo.

Uba’s woes are entirely of Uba’s making. Uba chose to wrap himself tightly around Ortom to get Ortom’s blessings for Uba’s gubernatorial ambition. Uba chose Ortom over Benue. Uba preferred to please Ortom at the expense of Benue. Uba’s vow to continue from where Ortom stops was the most sycophantic drivel ever uttered in Benue. It was a statement of intent that was read and digested very well by the Benue population. Appropriately, Uba who calls Ortom, Daddy, was promising to continue the Ortom legacy of cruelty, incompetence, narcissism, and mendacity. In effect, in promising to continue from where Ortom stops, Uba was echoing the biblical king whom the children of Israel had gone to, to plead for lessening the yoke of hardship which his father had imposed on them. With his voice dripping with utmost scorn, the new king vowed to be even more wicked than his father. In Uba’s case, he cannot outperform Ortom in wickedness, but the chutzpah and the arrogance that he would not lessen the Ortom yoke have turned many Benue voters away from Uba. In vowing to continue the awful Ortom leadership, Uba was in effect saying that Benue has not had enough pain, agony and misery. Uba is arrogantly proclaiming that the people of Benue are gluttons for punishment and dehumanization.

It is worse than that. By saying that he has no agenda other than continuing the punishing Ortom leadership, Uba has deprived himself of any campaign issue. It is no campaign issue to tell teachers that they would continue to teach without being paid. There is nothing else to be said as a campaign issue to pensioners to inform them that they would continue to get sick and some of them would die because of a deliberate refusal to pay them their retirement benefits. What else would Uba say to IDPs other than to remind them that his policy would see them living dehumanized lives and surviving only on the meager handouts from total strangers? Ortomism without Ortom is not a marketable campaign manifesto.

Since Ubahas no vision and no strategy, his handlers cannot market him to the voters. Instead, they and Uba are convinced that Uba can only win by default. Uba is scared to compete against Rev Father H.I. Alia. Uba knows that his vow to continue Ortomism with Ortom hovering over and above Uba is not a palatable choice for Benue voters. Uba cannot get a mandate from such a sadistic stance. Uba knows that Benue voters will reject that awful message in toto. Uba and Ortom recognize that Benue would embrace an anti-Ortomism message. Even without uttering a word,Benue knows that Alia embodies the anti-Ortomism message. A message of humaneness over cruelty. Integrity over perfidy. Selflessness over narcissism. Vision over greed. Efficiency over incompetence. Truthfulness over inveterate mendacity. The anti-Ortomism message is succinct. It is clear. It is a message that the continuation of Ortomism would sound the death knell for Benue and its people.

Ironically, by not having anything to campaign on, Uba makes it possible for his opponents to try to goad him to incriminate himself through the salacious sensationalism about an alleged certificate scandal. A campaign like Uba’s based on non-issues, accentuates the role of a scandalous non-scandal. Benue is looking for ways to mock, scorn, and deride Uba and the alleged certificate scandal was tailored to those aims. Unfortunately for Uba, he cannot squelch such rumors by appealing to his manifesto. His manifesto is to continue the Ortom yoke and Benue has had enough of the Ortom yoke. Even the Ortom yokels are sick and tired of the Ortom yoke.

Going to court in an attempt to stop Alia reveals the emptiness of the Uba campaign. It is a move that goes beyond cowardice. It is a continuation of the chicanery, the hide-and-seek mentality and the sleight of hand on which the Ortom leadership has been anchored for the past seven years. On this however, the court has become a quick sand rather than a solid rock of harassment and intimidation.

There is another way to interpret Uba’s rush to court to stop Alia. It is a move reminiscent of Ortom’s use of the judicial system to intimidate and harass his opponents. The way Ortom and Uba see it, the only way Uba would be a host and not a quisling visitor to Government House is to have Uba win by default. Unfortunately for the duo,they appeared to have received their legal advice from an octogenarian undergraduate law student. Their desperation led them to file a lawsuit on an issue which they have no locus standi. Uba is not an APC gubernatorial contender. If Uba was standing on a solid legal ground, he would just have kept mute and wait until after the election for the tribunal to nullify Alia’s victory and then declare Uba the winner by default, but because there is nothing to the Uba campaign and Uba is too chicken to face Alia, they seek to prevent Alia from contesting in the first place. All the silly talks about Catholic Canon Laws and the sillier Ortom pronouncement that a governor needs a good wife are all part of how much the Uba campaign fears the Alia candidacy. The simple message of, Yes, Father, is a dagger in the heart of the Uba campaign. There is palpable fear and there are confusion and panic in the Uba campaign, but we should not cry for Uba.

A man who claims to be only "7"years older than his first child can not be trusted.

BREAKING: Adamu announces Senator Ahmed Lawan as APC consensus Presidential candidate

Govs, NWC members kick, insist on fair primary

Crisis has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the announcement of Senate President Ahmed Lawan as consensus presidential aspirant by the national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Adamu made the announcement at the meeting of National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday in Abuja.

Other aspirants including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Dr. Kayode Fayemi and David Umahi, among others will however be allowed to contest the primary at the convention holding tomorrow at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

The NWC members insisted other aspirants must be given a level playing ground to compete.

Adamu’s adoption of Lawan as consensus candidate is against the position of 11 APC northern Governors, who endorsed that power must shift to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

Adamu told the National Working Committee that he arrived at the choice of Lawan after consultation with President Buhari.

The Guardian has gathered that the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is under pressure to forgo his presidential ambition.

A party source, at the weekend, disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had last week sent some party leaders to convince Tinubu to step down “in the interest of the party”.

It was gathered that the leading aspirant was enraged with the message and told the emissaries from the President why he should send them when he could have called or invited him for such discussion.

The source said: “Asiwaju was very angry when they delivered the message. To him, if President Buhari has any reason why he didn’t want to support him for the ticket, there is nothing wrong for the President to call him and discuss it instead of working round to block his chances.”

The source said the position of the President and some people around him might have angered Tinubu during his meeting with party delegates in Abeokuta, Ogun State last Thursday.

It was also discovered that a meeting of party leaders convened in Abuja on Saturday evening failed to convince Tinubu to step down even when it was said that there are plans to provide him with a soft landing by virtue of his position as the party’s National Leader.

A source said: “A meeting was held on Saturday night and part of the agenda was to convince Tinubu to step down but we could not achieve it. A meeting was held by 3p.m yesterday, and there was no result, but another meeting will hold on Sunday night to prune down the number of aspirants and particularly, to convince Tinubu not to dare the President.”

REMINDER! IN 1998, AFENIFERE LEADERS HELPED SOMEONE'S POLITICAL DESTINY...
Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu did NOT win the governorship ticket of the Alliance for Democracy, AD, in late 1998 for the January 1999 governorship election.

A certain Funsho Williams did.

I was a reporter then. We knew what transpired. I was one of those assigned to cover the exercise the which was not collegiate like it is today.

Elections were being held local government by local government.

My then Political Editor, Yusuph Olaniyonu, had told me two months before then that irrespective of what happened, Tinubu would pick the ticket.

He was dead right!

When the Afenifere leaders, led by the late Baba Abraham Adesanya, saw what was happening, they 'ended' the exercise and simply announced Tinubu as the candidate.

The thinking of the Afenifere leaders was that Tinubu was a strong pro-democracy activist who really worked for NADECO.

So he needed to be compensated.

Funsho Williams' offence?

He was an 'Abacha Politician'.

Therefore, hardly does one become something in politics without someone lifting him up.

Afenifere leaders lifted Tinubu and he played his game well and supplanted the old men and practically retired them from politics.

To be Sincerely honest in my humble opinion without being sentimental of course without who thinks differently from my point of view and without hiding any thoughts in my mind and without lies, to the actual truth with my clear open mind and clean heart, expressing what ever is embedded inside me for a long time which i didn't say just because i was nervous. But today, by gathering all the courage and motivation, i just want to say that i actually feel and think that i have absolutely nothing to say. ���‍♂️�

Anything to favour Peter Obi is welcomed.

I haven't voted in the last two decades, but because of Obi, I will be returning from voting exile.

Please, vote competency, vote Peter Obi.

Since 1999 when Nigeria returned to democracy, I was voting people based on what people who claimed to have known them told me about them, not because of money, I always put the candidates of different parties to scrutiny before reaching a decision.

My preferred candidates hardly won, so in 2003, I retired from voting when it became obvious that votes doesn't count in Nigeria, after voting for Hon. Akaa Nege as a councillor in my ward who was shortchanged by moneybag politics and Geoffrey Akula of the same party was sworn in, gen he was not the one nominated for the election. If not for my late uncle, William Gbaior Azua, I wouldn't have collected my PVC till date.

Peter Obi happen to be the only candidate I have known personally, (not because I have personal relationship with him, or I ever met him one on one, but because I was in Anambra when he was the governor and I witnessed for myself his performance) and not what people told me about him.

My fear is that, Obi is one of the few good country men and women we have, that can never be allowed to rule our nation, maybe due to their striving not to mingle with the extremely corrupt and dirty political players (himself not being a saint though), which make them lack cult like followership Nationwide, or maybe he never considered himself a national figure and cared less about National politiking., or better still realized lately and started lately too.

If we are not to vote for moneybag candidates, or big party membership, we should vote for Peter Obi for president. I don't think I will meet Peter Obi in person in my life time, and I am not in a position to get anything from his handlers, but the benefits of an Obi presidency outweigh any other interest.

Obi was the governor that made Anambralians realized that the state was rich. I have high hope in Obi's presidency.

Please, I may lack political sugar coated words to market Obi, but please, vote for Peter Obi as our president come 2023.

We can not keep doing the same thing but expecting different results. I have my reservation of whether our votes will count this time, but for the benefit of doubt, Vote for Peter Obi as our president.

Webster's dictionary defines ingratitude as "forgetfulness, or poor return for kindness recieved".

It can also be defined as not appreciating or valuing what one have, or have been given. Un-expressed gratitude is as bad as ingratitude. Most people seemed not to have time for thankfulness. Ingratitude has therefore become the integral part of the society. If you ask most people if they are ungrateful, they will probably reply "of course not".How ever, this attitude is so ingrained in their lives that they can not oppenly admit or even realize that they are ungratful.

Have you ever given something, time, or attention to someone only to discover later how ungratful the person was?, how do you feel?.

Lets learn to show some gratitude as, and when due. Being ungratful is one of the most sinful acts towards our fellow humans.

APC will zone theirs in the north if the PDP nominate a northerner, and Bashir knows that a northern presidential candidate spells doom to his father's life ambition of a VP.

Like I always say. If my wish were to be respected, Obi would have been given a chance, but it's unfortunate.

I doubt your victory through Labor Party.
