It is a fast developing state true, but it takes more than infrastructure to fast track and sustain development. Many of the people have a mentality and attitude problem, socially and business wise. It is even worse than I previously thought. Until they address that problem I don't think they would be ready to catch up.

Though the governor is doing a great job by the very low Nigerian standards, I don't see the business of government in building a shopping mall and a church.

It will. Even if its 2005, so far it is same shape/body type. I know two people who bought theirs in the same range in Abuja too. But directly from owner. Its all these middle men and agents that want to chop more than the owner that cause problems for everybody.

Really? My fellow Anambra people seem scarce in Ebonyi. I've been in Abakaliki on and off for a while and haven't met one. But the governor is amazing. The city is sparkling.

Days after? It must be a very dirty hotel with poor management. I'm not sure about this Afikpo Road, but it seems it's that busy meat market area. This makes it even much worse for such a thing to happen in that kind of busy environment and yet went unnoticed for days.

The tax levied on the state residents has been huge, disproportionate and wicked. Before he was advised to temporarily halt the taxation, many small scale businesses had left the state. You can imagine where indomie noodles fast food sellers, roasted yam/plantain sellers, women selling fairly-used clothes and other peasant and struggling businesses were levied between NGN14,800 - NGN120,000 per year, and you have to pay in arrears of 3 years. Dave Umahi has so many negative sides, especially his quick temper, selfishness and above all, his lust and love for money. It's terrible! He has done well in the area of infrastructure alone, that is roads/flyover bridges. I don't know where else he has done well. He sold the state vehicle inspection office (VIO) to his illiterate uncle and they have bn chasing motorists around in the state, to the extend of pulling a truck down which killed a passerby. Umuoghara Quarry site stopped functioning after his nephew who has no crusher took over the entire Quarry site as overseer. The stop directive announced on taxation Is just to enable him secure another term after which, Ebonyians will see hell. What could one say of a man who built over 20 duplexes in his father's compound, annexing nearby homes, few months in office? A compound that had only two (2) mud houses plastered with cement.

Interesting. I need to engage you guys physically to discuss and learn more about these eye opening perspectives. I used to think the whole state was in love with the governor. Maybe cos I don't know the grassroots in the state as a visitor.

Are you serious? So these new structures I see springing up everywhere are linked to his people? As an occasional visitor to Abakaliki, I would have sworn that the governor is well loved by everyone because he is working.

I'm currently in Abakaliki and I saw the crowd. It's not a mammoth crowd but at least they're orderly.

I managed to waltz past them just now while on my way to Tycoon Hotels to cool off. Let them bring their federal money let me eat small out of it.

1. Passing Primary School and the common Entrance
2. Passing Waec and Jamb for God knows how many times,
3. University lectures, examinations, early morning classes, fellowship meetings, final year project, clearance for NYSC, 3 weeks orientation, PPA hassles, CDS and monthly clearance wahala.

And to think that the Parents struggled to pay for all her fees, living expenses and prayed for her to be successful through all these ordeals...

Such a heart break. May heaven keep us from untimely death in Jesus name.

That's why I can never understand how people develop the cold-blooded heart to kill others just like it's nothing. I think about these things everyday and I come to the conclusion that I can't hurt another person no matter what. I can't be the one to end someone's life, a life that has had so many chapters. It is simply impossible to comprehend.

Both, if possible. I don't want the hairs at all, especially because of the white hairs which make someone look older than the real age. If there's any way to get rid of the facial hairs altogether and have a smooth hairless face, I'll be very glad.

Any ideas?

Is there any way for a young man to get rid of white hairs especially on the beards and around the face? A permanent solution or at least a way to slow down the regrowth? Any creams, solutions or whatever?

I've been in Abakaliki for a couple of weeks now, and I must admit that the rate of development here is outstanding. Infrastructure is great and the city seems to be shaping up to be one of the best organised and sanest in Nigeria. The governor is clearly a performer, and I'm saying this objectively.

On the flip side, it's a very small city though (everybody knows everybody, and they look at new faces with almost xenophobic cynicism). And the people here seem quite unfriendly and clannish in nature. I'm very outgoing and have been out and about to while away time and soak in the vibe of the city, but the guys I've been seeing around everywhere seem only comfortable with their fellow Abakaliki-oriented squad. As an outsider or visitor, it's difficult to make reasonable acquaintances here. Not a tourist's delight.

Where do the big boys hang out in Abakaliki?
A cool but bubbling place with correct people, not riff-raff, as I've been seeing everywhere. Been to the Vista Lounge, Tycoon, etc. Although the structures are very good and standard the crowd leaves me unsatisfied. Chaff crowd. Maybe because drinks are cheap (Vista Lounge is very good, structure and furnishing wise, but their regular beer is only N300, maybe that's why so many substandard characters stuff themselves in there like sardines.) In Lagos, a place like Vista Sparkling would be premium and a destination of choice for better people.

Also been to the state governor's hotel (Osborne) and it's ok no doubt, but it's a dull and dead zone. Not much going on.

Is there any correct place in Abakaliki where drinks are priced above the Chaff (say N400-N500 for regular lager), and where correct people congregate?

I'm here for some weeks for some personal stuff and need to know what's poppin' while I'm here. The town can't be full of Chaff, I believe.
