This is one of the many COMMENDABLE and good things he has been doing for Nigeria as a nation. only the hateful and blind people refuse to see. I love you PMB. keep up the good work your Excellency.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.legit.ng/amp/1347335-coronavirus-fg-set-pay-private-school-teachers-salary-arrears.html Why do you decieve yourself all to portray PMB as a good person? Someone who doesn't give a hoot about you, you are thanking? Which promise has he ever fulfilled? When he pays, that is when you can say he has come to the aid of teachers. But a person "set to pay" has done nothing Nigerian teachers should be thankful of. |

MT: I beg to differ to your lengthy piece. If IPPIS doesn't capture the allowances or any details, ASUU should tell the FG, and the software will be worked on to capture those requirements.
Attempt to whip up sentiments by telling us what lecturers earn won't work; that should be a separate issue that ASUU should address with the FG, it doesn't justify not enrolling to IPPIS. Your piece did not factor in tax that lecturers have shortchanged the State govt overtime. Will the lecturers accept to pay these money back or the FG will still have to pay on their behalf?
In another news, what has been the major impact of these universities in the fight against covid-19? Any notable research?? Is it from their pocket you expect them to cough out money for ground breaking research? For those that have written proposals for grant in order to bring out meaningful findings to bring an end to COVID, has the government or any appropriate quarters read or considered their proposals let alone funding? The government is waiting for the whites to develop vaccines & drugs, so let us all wait instead of blaming them. The kind of laboratories I have seen in federal universitues is not one ground breaking researches can come from. Let the government fund the university system and see whether research will not thrive! |

Education › Re: The Salary Of A Nigerian Professor After IPPIS (Pictured) by acetylcholine(f): 7:57pm On May 19, 2020 |
olawalepopoola: It is unfortunate that we are in this mess. I have a lecturer friend in FUTA and while discussing with him, he said his basic salary plus his allowances amounts to 140,000 as an assistant lecturer. As a lecturer 2 in a private University in Nigeria I earn 130,000 monthly without allowances. My questions are; 1. If the table is correct, why is it not showing their allowances e.g. hazard allowance, car allowance and the rest. I believe in every payslip, this is broken down. 2. With this peanut, how do you except breakthrough research when most lecturers use their 'gross' income to pay for article publications in gold open access journals. China made landmarks in researches not because their scientists are only good, but because their government gave priority to research. In China you are paid RMB100,000 for publishing in a 1 impact factor SCI journal. They have alot of research funding agencies (how many do we have in Nigeria). Even a PhD student allowance in China is greater than that of a Professor in Nigeria. In Nigeria, we don't have functional laboratories. As a Geologist, we don't trust data coming from Nigerian labs because they might have been doctored. We send our samples mostly to ACTLAB or ACME labs in Canada. This is ridiculous I believe. Compared to Universities in Namibia, Nigerian Professors are paid an Assistant Lecturer salary in that country. Why do you think our best scholars are leaving the shores of this nation. If I have the opportunity too, I will run for my dear life.
Some complained that some lecturers teach in more than 2 public Universities. Firstly, I want you to know the basic requirements for teaching in a University is a PhD. It is because of dearth of PhD holders that this happen in Nigeria. To gain full accreditation, you need to have more of PhD holders on your team than just misters with M. Sc. Many fields lack these degree holders. Getting a PhD in Nigeria is a nightmare except you are favoured by God.
Aftermath of this ASUU protest. 1. Each University will be forced to look inwards to meet their needs. School fees will be sky rocketed. I forsee Universities students paying up 400,000K per session in not too distant future.
Nigeria is in shambles only God can help us. Instead of the public to support ASSU to fight the corrupt politicians so that universities can be better funded, they are busy calling them names. Personally, since the public do not understand ASSU's struggle, let us see how many of them will be able to send their children to federal universities when the school fees becomes 400k. Na then their eyes go clear. " A n gba ediye lowo iku, oni won o je oun je aatan" |

The hazard allowance for lecturers is mere hearsay, at least for my institution. It was technologists that started getting 30k last year, not lecturers. |

mofedamijo: I do not need to justify anything, and yea its a federal university, you want me to prove something since 2009, i left naija shortly after, am i suppose to keep someone else payslip since 2009?? That is mere hearsay. No professor earns a basic salary of 600k. Even professors that taught me don't earn this. My point is let your conclusions be based on facts, not what you heard. |

I have no idea where you got this one from. Secondly, a lecturer you just got his professorship wont earn the same as one with 15 years professorship, it comes with levels Please can you state the university you graduated from. I am sure it is a private university not a federal university. And if it is a federal university, please post a sample of the pay slip to justify a Prof. takes home 600k |

heykims: You should also tell us the pay before IPPIS. IPPIS didn't cut down salaries but ensures tax, pension and other deductions are optimally removed. People in academics have been evading tax for years and IPPIS enrolment will break that. Mind u, civil servants are generally poorly paid not just professors. Op is also a liar, there are other allowances attached. I don't usually comment but I logged in purposely to reply you and others like you who just conclude without facts. I am sure no member of your family is a lecturer, if not, you would have seen it on their payslip even before IPPIS matter came up that tax is deducted every month. A resident doctor said he can cover cross to academics because it is slavery as he earns more than a professor who cannot boast of taking 450k home as salary. Which other allowances were you referring to? You think this is NNPC or CBN or other agencies that you are given travel allowances etc? As a lecturer, hazard allowance per month is eight hundred and forty one naira(#841), on the payslip before IPPIS. Technologies that fought for theirs we're paid 30k hazard allowance before, but with IPPIS, the government removed hazard allowance and unexplainable deductions NASU, NAAT etc are aggitating against. Another deduction is NHS, national housing fund which by law is not compulsory. You are a big fool if you think you can continue living in rented apartment and government will someday build house for you. Also how do you explain the fact that 2 individuals in the same cader and step do not get the same salaries? It is only gullible people FG can decieve that they are saving billions with IPPIS. If they are saving money at all, it is the pay of lecturers unjustly cut. Lest I forget, I know not less than 2people who do not have a federal government job but received salaries through IPPIS. It is people without brains the government can decieve. Let me rest my case here. |
