education? Are you joking? Pls come to Abuja and see educated youths doing drugs.... Educating her on drug abuse like u said would be of help.... Even NDLEA don't arrest people who do drugs to jail, they rehabilitate them... They only arrest people who sell drugs

If hisbah is going after rich people kids 2, nobody will complain or is it only d poor people dat break the law?
You missed my point. Education before a youth becomes an adult is what I mean.

Most people who have drug issues are not poor. So the problem is not poverty.

The governor only said stop behaving like animals when arresting people.... Must you act uncivilised..... D yeye hisbah dat is only limited to the poor....
Their issue is the timing. That arrest issue happened a while ago but the governor didn't comment until Murja incident. She was also his supporter so the people just concluded he is looking for a subtle way to criticize.

My own take is that Hisbah has been violating constitutional rights. The governors timing was absolutely absurd. He should have reached the Commander privately or as at the time the incident happened. On Murja, she is just a loud mouthed girl who is probably on drugs.

Unfortunately, I knew before this happened that Hisbah was bitting more than it could chew. To catch a pig, be ready to step in the mud. Hisbah reputation is in the mud after dragging Murja in the mud.

I think Hisbah should re-strategize and tell themselves their boundaries. Hausa girls are seriously into drugs, All Hisbah has achieved is a show of force for religious chastity, however, true religious chastity is a personal thing and the focus is the home. Hausa parents need to tasked. Check out, she didn't complete secondary school, what did they expect? They should also focus on educating the younger generation and making sure youths go to school. If Murja was educated, this will not happen.

do you think it's easy to be a professor? Am doing my PhD now and it isn't easy.
Is it easy to win a local government election? Do you know how many people died trying to get there. How many people died just because they are doing PhD?

How much do you spend to become a Professor compared to what you need to spend to become LG chairman?

Do you know the number of curses on their heads. In my local government, since 1999, no chairman has become anything better in life after office. First chairman, ended up in prison while in office because of a rift with the governor, died immediately after his tenure. He died poor. The second chairman lost his leg few months after the election. He has nothing today, he saw me recently and begged for 1k to complete his transport fare. I can go on and on.

Leave politics alone and face your books.

I have always been thinking of this whether a local government chairman earn more than a university vice-chancellor.

I have instances. My ex-school mate father was a vice chancellor of a one federal university like that then but they weren't that wealthy as I expected or is he faking it?

I just met this friend I met during NYSC, he wasn't a corper but an aide to a local government chairman politician. He loves giving me money but I don't like collecting money from people(I love my self respect). This young man of 28 years took me to his duplex which was brand new. He is driving Lexus 350 tear rubber. He took me to a four storey building he built. He is married but when I met the wife she was newly pregnant like 3 months. I keep letting this politician know how life haven't been fair to me etc like I find it hard to get federal jobs. He told me he would have given me a job in the local government if I was the same state with him. He told me he would put me on in politics if we were from his state. I really want to know if a local government chairman is richer than a VC.

My ex school mate that his father was a VC couldn't secure a job for me then his father was VC upon I begged everyday on WhatsApp to him. I felt sad this guy couldn't help me because we were friends in secondary school and he is a stingy person too.

Does a local government chairman of a rich local government earn more than a vice chancellor of a federal university?
A local government chairman earns in a single tenure of 4years max and gets through other ways more money than a professor but in 30years a professor is richer.

I think professors don't appreciate what they have.

Dobodobo04:
We are at a critical junction; if we provide this electricity for all, there are numerous benefits but vandals and people building underneath transmission cable stand in the way.

It’s an engineering and a social problem. Do u agree?

What I would suggest is we bury the cables prone to vandalism underground and run cables we can guard overhead.

Burying transmission cables underground is expensive, I know but we can do it only to vulnerable sections.

People shouldn’t build underneath cable lines anyway, so we tell them to move and compensate them. We deter and warn future builders not to build underneath.
I don't see an engineering problem, social yes. The purpose of engineering is providing solutions to problems in our daily lives. While we struggle to provide this solution of electricity which is the main responsibility, vandals are taking us back. Imagine if engineers direct their energy to anti-vandalism, it is for sure that cost will prevent any headway.

Good that you realize it's expensive, you have even underestimated the cost. It's not practicable with High voltage for long distance. It will be over ten times the cost of overhead conductors. Conductors heat up with high voltage, underground requires serious insulation, this same insulation will prevent heat decipation thereby causing heat issues and limitations.

Secondly, there is no transmission line that has ever been constructed in Nigeria without paying compensation. I have seen people who got compensation and still encroached with a new building and sued for compensation again while construction of the line was in progress.

We can’t make excuses that our fathers and grandparents made that made us where we are today.

These infrastructures are life changing, so either we succeed in guarding them or not build them at all.

New mentality!! No excuses. It’s not like we are putting man in the moon.
There are different types of people, u and me and others. You are the type who says "no excuses" let's do it and end up achieving nothing, I am the type who analyse risk and rewards against my income and priorities before anything. There are bunch of others who start before running their analysis then abandon.

Guarding them from who, by who and at who's costs. The same Nigerians the complain no electricity are the same Nigerians the cut the cables at night. If they put security and ask you to pay double of what u pay for electricity u will shout sapa. Which other advance country puts security on transmission lines. I know India and some countries who have the issue with vandals, did they put security? Go and check.

There is a particularly line I know that Govt wants to change the cable from the 1970's cable to a more efficient one. The entire line has houses under it!! Just less than 10km within a city. If that line should cut and fall on those houses, casualties will be in hundreds. Tell me why Nigerians built under a live transmission line against the safety of their lives. Tell me when such houses where built 20+ years ago, why didn't the state stop them?

Asking questions makes one understand, but assumptions is the mother of all f.ups.

Hmmmm

I understand you.

There are people who don't want to hear "it's impossible". Sometimes it's because they don't understand the difficulties and sometimes they are correct because those who they encountered are not capable of thinking beyond the challenges.

Engineering is my profession and my profession works with limits which are boundaries of our minds. If I can't logically think it, it's impossible.

If a suggestion looks unreal to the best of my analysis, I will tell you to shelf it. Unreal sometimes means cost Vs desire. Cost can never be above desire. If cost is above desire, it's impossible in the engineering sense.

Engineering is aimed at making life easier, but at what cost. Once the cost of a project exceeds it's usefulness, it's not worth it.

If the cost of paying electricity bill is higher than buying and running a generator, who will depend o NEPA?

Dobodobo04:
You don’t need soldiers guarding it but can attach sensors to the cables that detect proximity excavation.

Proximity sensors, are you for real? The sensor on towers close to highways for eg will have false alarm every second. The one that is completely in the bush, what if a hunter, farmer, wild animals etc comes near? Proximity sensors will just create false alarm to a magnitude that no one can take it seriously when the actual vandals operate out of the blue with months in between attacks.

The sensors alert the control room and you send patrol vehicles there ASAP. If not patrol vehicles, drones.

If the vandals can access the cables, why can’t security operatives also be able to?

You missed the point. Out of the 250km Kaduna - Kano Transmission line for eg, how can monitoring be possible if in a year i.e 365days vandals decide to vandalise at km183? in just one night. The probability of that happening is 1/365 x 1/250. This is not a kind of probably u put soldiers to protect

You need to catch a few of these vandals, make a great scapegoat of them and words will get around that a new sheriff is in town.

Vandals get caught sometimes but that's like 1 out of 100 attacks. Most times they get caught, a good, educated, vigilant member of the society informs security. They operate at night, to tell you the funny thing, most vandals are either former staff or are trained and know electricity workers and how everything works. They do it at a time no one can mobilize. TCN linesmen don't work in the night, they are off duty and will fault trace only in the morning. Most times they don't arrive until vandals are long gone. Most times they don't know if the line is vandalised until they get there.

If these vandals are getting shot on sight, it will stop ASAP.
Lastly, the lack of progress in Nigeria is not just leadership, we all are responsible.

These people are just damn incompetent!!

Stealing of cables isn’t a unique problem to Nigeria alone.

Look at how other countries deal with it and do likewise.

You can’t invest billions on infrastructures and leave it at the mercy of vandals!!

Carve out military men from the armed forces, train them, equip them with modern gadget to protect our valuable infrastructures like cables, pipelines, telecoms structures, etc.

No more excuses!!!!
You have no idea how vandals operate.

How many soldiers do you think can guard say Kaduna-Kano 330kv line alone which is nearly 250km. Remember, the right of way is not even motorable.

Embarrassing situation is when people who respect you know that you have not satisfied your wife. When your pastor knows details of your home. Your parents or siblings know about your sex life.

Anyone who knows you like that will judge you in his mind.

Rule of thumb, never discuss your life with any outsider of a relationship.

Because of lack of attention my Male Colleagues always try to take advantage of that and be chatting with me till midnight without him even seeing it.

Do you have kids, I don't think so. It sounds like your marriage is not old.

Why do you sit beside him while he is chatting? Stand up and twerk. Sit on his lap and make out. Don't give him space.

You want him to initiate romance, you guys are married now, ditch that laid back attitude and involve yourself in finding peace and happiness.

Sex is not meant for bed alone. Value your body you say? How can you be married and value your body more than your husband?

CBN convoy (blue), you should never attempt to overtake.

VIP, including governors, ministers, military Generals, police senior officers etc it's a bad idea.

You can't even be on the road with the president, the police will block the road 15-30minutes to ETA.

Prisons black Maria (actually green) is a no no.

If these people actually stopped to harass you, then they were busy bodies.

No convoy that actually carries something important stop for anything or anyone. Unless the actual vehicle that carries the important person or thing breaks down.

If you were a threat, stopping means you have achieved your threat. They deserve punishment for oppressing and harassing you.

I have overtaken a convoy of over 20cars of the Nigerian army between Kaduna to Zaria. It was difficult but I did it without them pointing a finger. I had to just find a long stretch because they won't let you in if there is an oncoming car.

Police are the worst set of people in the hell of our country. Next are Doctors and Nurses.

You can't buy a full chicken for N6,500. Unless it died and the owner wanted to sell it off urgently.

The presence of the head, leg and liver shows that it was either slaughtered or it recently just died cos frozen chickens don't come with heads, feet or liver.

Currently, 1 kilo of the smallest chicken lap (4pieces) is 4k. Two kilos would be 8k. This chicken you're claiming to buy for N6,500 is way over 3 kilos.

And if you must know, live broiler is 14k. The biggest size...So either you tell us the story behind how you bought a full chicken for such amount, or you stop lying to our faces.

Most of the people here saying it's a wonderful deal haven't bought chicken in months (or even years) I bought a live chicken 2 weeks ago for 14k with abeg, and bought 2kilos of chicken laps just yesterday. So I know how much these things are sold.

This is a display of ignorance.

Where is the train for Niger?

First of all, Niger is a land locked country which means anything they import in that country has to come through the sea which they don't have access to. Secondly, containers headed for Niger has to come through Nigeria, Benin Republic, or Libya. Currently, they use more of Benin because of clearing of logistics and government policies.

Having a rail line running from our sea to their country eliminates all logistical bottle necks. They currently get electricity from Nigeria, is it free? If they have access to rail do you think it's going to be free? The rail line will take the business from Benin to Nigeria.

Besides, do you know many trucks leave Kano daily to Niger with goods?

Is the rail mainly to serve Niger?
