absolute hogwash. america will be a miniscule market even if america embraces the sport and like If it seems you are talking from your mind not your brain. Could you tell me why EU that got less population than Africa has 13 teams? Are u saying that AMerican market is miniscule when compared with India? FIFA prefers folks with disposable income than 1 billion folks half of them do not have electricity and TV |
pump the breaks there tiger. there are 7 billion people in this world. 300 million are americans. i think fifa is doing quite well with 6.7 billion people. secondly, the reason americans do not embrace soccer is because they suck at it. not because of anything else. americans like to be the best at everything. if they cannot be the best. they dont embrace it. In business, 300 million customers who have got discretionary income are worth more than 1 bilion people who are looking to FIFA to beam live matches for free. FIFA would make more money from TV rights in the US than it would in India with over 1 billion folks. Got it? |
this is the reason why FIFA's potential biggest customer-USA would always find it hard to like soccer, because the power of the referee is soo absolute like Sani Abacha's. I see no reason why plays at the highest level like WC would not be reviewable. If I had not loved soccer before this match, this silly officiating killed it. |
typical Naija way. Score one goal and pray and hope for miracles. Always over-excited with little achievement |
One of the best post so far lol Your best post for nation that has refused work? Why dont U let juju do things i.e write your posts ,do your laundry, run errands etc? |
dey dia dey blow big big grammer, as far as it works, hey those guys should keep it up It's works in your little mind, but does not work in real world. Got it? Benin Kingdom known for all these silly beliefs was captured by the Europeans that their king was forced into exile, so what did not work during that time is not going to work now. There is a historical fact that it never worked. Keep dreaming. For your information could you tell me any nation on this earth that has tackled insecurity with juju and voodoo? |
In 21st century, Nigeria is still relying on superstitions and spirits to solver her national problems created by politicians. Just reminds me of how Obj blamed power failure on evil spirit. No wonder philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard says that it takes a leap of faith to believe these parodoxies. |
Soccer is not played on the pages of newspaper and blog sites, but on real green turf. Go and ask Spain who had been tipped to win the WC without having played any team what happened to them today. Naija vs Greece reminds me of France 98 when Nigeria lost sight of Denmark and was hoping to play Brazil in the quarterfinals. Mind you this is a side that requires TB Joshua's intervention to score goals. |
Salisu Buhari was impeached by Christians becuase he believed in Sharia law, never mind that he forged a Toronto degree. Ette was impeached by Christians becuase she killed Jesus Christ , never mind her contract scam. Now these Christians are coming after Bankole becuase he's being chosen by Allah to rescue Nigeria from corruption. Sounds like a Nollywood movie. |
why dont you buy a multi sytem TV cos it works everywhere even in Afghanistan. Multi system works, not the ones you could from American retailers. buyer beware!! |
great people believe in hard work and determination, while non-achievers believe in luck and miracles. which one are you? |
If his religion involved human sacrifice, he would be allowed to do that? Sharia is allowed under the constitution, but it can never take precedence over federal constitution. Federal constitution is supreme. |
Senator Yerima does not know that a federal law is utra vires of his self imposed Sharia law in Zamfara. Maybe he needs to be educated on the laws of Nigeria |
This effectively makes Lagos one of the most indebted states in the country, with combined bond issues of ₦100 billion. The plan for Lagos calls for another ₦175 billion to be borrowed, to finance all the various projects proposed for the city. Using our rough calculations, this means that every month, the Lagos state government has to pay bondholders ₦2.3 billion, given that the interest rates on these bond issues is about 13%. Half of that will be paid for the next 5 years, while the other half has three years to go. ₦26 billion a year is a large amount. Shouldn’t 13% of N100 billion be N13 billion instead of N27.6 billion @ N2.3 billion X 12 months? Can we stop comparing Lagos State with cities like New York, LA and Jo-Burg since we are talking about Nigeria where a government official is an institution. Americans and South Africans have better legal and financial oversights than Lagos, so there no basis for comparison. What are the ways to measure delivery of these projects vs amount spent? Also I would think that it's time Fashola partnered with private firms to build and manage these infrastructural projects. e.g new express ways and bridges to be installed with toll ways in order to recoup the cost of investment and future maintenance costs. Private entities could pay LASG up front take over ownership after some years. Finally, can folks who have no meaningful contributions to make stop raining abuses on people. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. " Knowledge is power, but wisdom is liberty" |
Robbers jailed for swift World Cup justice Sat Jun 12, 2010 2:49pm GMT By Phumza Macanda and Wendell Roelf JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African court handed rapid punishment to two men who robbed World Cup journalists from Portugal and Spain, sentencing them to 15 years in jail, police said on Saturday. The robbery last Wednesday raised concerns about sullying South Africa's reputation before the World Cup even started on Saturday. The country's extremely high rates of violent crime were one of the biggest concerns before the tournament. The armed robbers raided a lodge north of Johannesburg and stole laptops, mobile phones and cash. National police chief Bheki Cele had congratulated investigators on making swift arrests, which were processed by one of the special courts set up to accelerate justice during the tournament. "Two of the accused, Bright Madzidzi, 20, and George Magubane, 28, were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each for armed robbery," said a statement from the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure. "Ndubuisi Odungwa, 20, was sentenced to four years imprisonment for the possession of stolen property." TWO CONVICTED Officials said the two convicted robbers were Zimbabweans and Odungwa was a Nigerian. Police on Saturday also said team officials from Uruguay declined to press charges over a theft after a person from the team's retinue was caught on closed-circuit television. Brigadier Sally de Beer said police responded to a report that cash was stolen from the hotel the team, who drew 0-0 with France in their opening game on Friday evening, was staying in Cape Town. "Police went to the hotel and using CCTV identified a person (travelling with the team). They did not want to press charges," she said. South Africa hopes a successful World Cup will bring millions more tourists to this country and boost investment. Serious crime during the globe's most watched sporting event could have the opposite effect. Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa said police would act swiftly to deal with criminals. "The manner in which the investigation was conducted and finalised sends a stern message that our warnings to criminals were not empty threats," Mthethwa he said. |
Do I qualify for some of these contracts Mr Governor? |
So instead of shouting at us backward people from mountain top why not come down from the mountain and go Abia shout some more at those rampaging armed robbers lets see for how many minutes you will shout.Entire criminal industries are springing up in your midst, your youths are busy kidnapping your own people, even sick, diabetic and hypertensive people are not spared, beating and torturing chambers for kidnapped victims are being constructed as we type here, instead of you people to think of a solution for the apparent lack of humanity of your youth you come here talking about Yerima.Does scale of reference ring a bell in your head ?arrange in order of priorities?once you do that you will see that yerimas of this world are at the bottom pit on the list of your problems.silly deranged goat. What a dispaly of idiocy and lawlessness!! What's up with "you people" do you live in Mars? |

TIME TO STOP DREAMING. This is most tactically incompetent Nigerian side. A world cup player from Nigeria getting fouled for bad thow. It seems they do not know who they are marking. |
Why talk about engagement when you are not financially settled in life? In marriage, you have to consider biological age, psychological age and YES, FINANCIAL MATURITY. The era of God will provide is gone!! |
Why are people discouraging him from spending the money he has to see his girl? It's not like he's draining his years and years of hard earned money which he has been saving for his children and children's children! The guy's a student for God's sakes and the money is his savings from a holiday job. If I can remember correctly from my school days, some guys used to blow such funds away throwing silly parties during the first week of resumption. This one wants to spend it on his girl and y'all are opening your mouths wide! GOLD DIGGING INC IS YOUR WEALTH AND FINANCIAL ADVISERS BUYER BEWARE |
I changed for him gave up drinking and smoking and he never one day said look babe thats cool. Now he is calling me a control freak? I was pissed. I was ready to leave, that I was sure of even though I had the urgent need to punch him, for all my sleepless nights, looking so handsome, planning ahead, living his life while I was loosing mine. It seemed that this ex couple had opposite intentions. The lady wanted a big wedding - got herself an insurance coverage for the wedding (man) and she saw marriage as an award to be won in order to feel belonged. The man wanted to solidify his career path by going for M.Sc. They never wanted marriage at the same time. We went to her house and met her daughters. She and her husband where working. It was already 2pm and common sense said go back to the office. I thought about everyone, my mum, family, friends who have been begging me to move on and I stood up from the couch. As I made for the door, he started holding my hand and saying he told me to wait I did not listen. I want to marry so desperately and it has clouded my judgement. I started crying, saying please let me go, I dont want the girls to know what I am doing. He put my head on his shoulders and was breathing heavily, so we started kissing and the rest is history. I slept with him despite all the talks and prayers. Sounds like a fairy tale, she did not want the kids to know that she was crying, but later had sex with the guy in the same house?. How could this be possible? |
except the small bungalow at the back of the premises which I built for my late mother He still respected and loved his mother till death. |
Lagos and Abuja represent less than 15% of Naija population. How about me and my village? Anyway, this is not going to happen in Lagos and Abuja. We have heard this before, it's called a LIE |
no it was passed for clarification actually. Infact I am still wondering why you brought this in the debate. Infact go to the wiki page, it clearly states that this clarifies the federal view of marriage. Please why did you bring DOMA into this I brough this up to show marriage is treated as a union between a man and woman and you could be prosecuted for polygamy understand this act. An act that bans homosexual marriage tells you that the public is not ready to extend marriage acceptance to homosexuals in the United States, while at the same time the U.S is negating the public oppostion to homosexual act in Malawi. Our voters are opposed to it, we respect them, your public is opposed to it, they are uncivilized and bigoted. forget about them any way |
Please wikipedia common marriage law. I think you are mixing some stuff up. common law marriage is an informal type of marriage. U.S marriage law is a derivative of English common law which is derivative of Roman and Canon laws which were heavily influenced by Christian teachings. How does this answer to those who are not Christians when it comes to polygamy or polyandry? |
Weak. This is because polygamy could be argued to be subversive to women's rights. Gay marriage a parallel argument cannot be proposed. Now I am debating gay marriage lol, which I did not want to do. The DOMA Act is federal law by the way. Its not a state law. Some states allow gay marriage. But the DOMA allows non-recognizing states to disregard these marriages within there jurisdiction. Thank you for helping me out , presidents do not sign state laws, but federal laws. so if DOMA were to clash with state laws, DOMA would be adopted? ain't it? |
In my undergrad in the US, which was a religious school, and for every 100 people who went to church, only 5 believed in God (If you engaged them in a private discussion). Agreed this sample is biased because of the large number of intelligent people, but it highlights biases between polls and individual beliefs. If you poll them 60% would claim to believe in God. 0% would follow even one of the christian tenets closely. U still did not get. My reference point was Western Hemisphere- nay Developed countries. It's the same trend with most Christians and Muslims. Millions of Nigerians believe in God, but how many follow God's teachings? Does that negate the fact that they are Christians and Muslims? It seems you are trying to make polls look incredible when they do not help you arrive at your intended conclusion. Check Pew Research on religion. Compare US with other countries You missed my point. When I mentioned southerners, I pointed to an argument that could be used to keep the DADT law. Its basic fact that US army is made largely from people in the south, especially those from the Bible belt. But the DADT law was made because of national security. It was not made because of any conservatism. Was DOMA also passed because of national security? |
Kantian morality should be objective and not subjective. Objective based on reason, and not subjective based on emotions. Who told you that homosexuality is an eurocentric view? When did homosexuality become legal in the west that it is now an "eurocentric view? So equality is an "eurocentric view? Are you effing serious? U dont get it, polygamy or polyandry is viewed as an affront to western civilization. To contextualise this argument, ' eurocentric view' is held as a the truth and superior to every other argument simply becuase they hold it to be true. You are using it as a priori which forms the basis of your argument |
Polygamy is never the ideal situation for women-therefore polygamy is bad- but people still want to claim polygamy should be legalized-why, is polygamy good? Next step, the person pulls the last part and ignores the rest of what I said and says- can you claim homosexuality is good? Or can I claim picking my nose is good? How did u reach that conclusion of what is ideal? Your premise on morality should not be the benchmark for measuring what's moral from another person's point of view. In the context of this discussion, Malawi is not a western nation and cannot be forced to conform to Eurocentric views of the world, just like the same the way the west cannot accept polygamy or polyandry. |
The first bolded- You got that straight out of wikipedia. But you should have read further. Second bolded-what does this mean?[ I have never said polygamy is not illegal in the US. So what did I butcher? This is what I said: I do not know about the source - wikipedia. This is a common knowledge and it has been over debated on this forum. My point is that common marriage law is a product of ancient Roman and Canon laws and should not be the basis for marriage laws in every other country. So if we are saying that marriage is a human right, then polygamy and polyandry should be covered, but the same folks who make the same argument in the west will never allow polygamy and polyandry. Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1996 clearly defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman and it’s utra vires of any another laws enacted by the states with regard to marriage laws To further illustrate, polygamy was proscribed by the Church of England during slavery era, but at the same time the Church held slaves in plantations in the Caribbean- Simply put, you can go to hell if you are a polygamist, but you cannot go to hell if you are slave owner. Since argument polygamy is always based on Christian values, why cant homosexual unions be viewed with the moral prism? |
