GANDALF1: Posted this in Jan. For any one who heeded to this call and bought Zenith today, you will have made good capital gains and also gotten registered for a good dividend.
Plan your trade If anyone had listened to you, they would have gone 100% cash like you did. Why are you trying to take credit when they did the opposite of what you suggested? |

moneymanager: Over $50 chai, Why now? There are gas and diesel pumps in the USA Gas has three prices and usually $20 - $35 at the most (and diesel falls in that category also) will fill your tank (the higher range is even for higher grade gas not like naija)
Pls let’s not embellish reality According to triple A, the current average price of REGULAR gas in the USA is $3.65/gallon. The tank size of an average sedan in the USA is 16-20 gallons. Therefore, $3.65*17=$62. Based on these numbers, MoneyManager you’re wrong. Nigerialabalaba is right. I chose to go with averages because these are numbers any one can easily verify. |

GANDALF1: Have you ever asked yourself why the government keeps borrowing despite rising oil prices?
Nigeria is a net importer of refined crude as of today and its not gonna change in 2022 at least.
Hence, Nigeria will continuously run a deficit balance as oil prices continue to rise because it must increase its subsidy of PMS and that will continue to erode whatever gains it makes by exporting crude.
Added to this, Nigeria's Crude production volume keeps dropping despite increased allocation (check OPEC). It will even profit Nigeria more at this point, for crude prices to drop, else riots will break out soon when government is unable to subsidize any further. To respond to your question, I stopped asking myself that question. The reason I stopped is because like Nigeria, the rest of the world continue to borrow at alarming rates. Now, can you please answer my question? Is the oil about to dry up or has your thesis changed from that? If thesis changed, can you please let me in on the secret sauce? Like you, I am trying to protect the investments I have in NSE. If you know something, please share |

GANDALF1: Might be less. I am forecasting 50k final year, to make the total dividend for 2021 80k
Reasons Tony gave for reduction in dividend is still there. CBN wants to stop USD sales to banks and Tony is interested in amassing USD assets and paying down USD liabilities with the retain profits.
Zenith just confirmed my fears that it is only a matter of weeks now for the royal tumble. Is the oil about to dry up? That was the reason you gave for going all cash about a month ago. Maybe you have a new thesis as to why we are about to crash? |

I knew something was brewing when employees of UCAP were loading the stock hand over fist late last year. Every time I check the NGX disclosure website, there is an insider buy update! I wish I had more UCAP but I believe more buying opportunities will come.
Another company with massive insider buys is Stanbic, hopefully Stanbic will surprise with decent dividend payment.Fingers crossed |

OBAGADAFFI: UCAP was a subsodiary to UBA.
UBA is N8.40 while CAP is N12 We care too much about the price of a stock. It doesn’t really matter what the price of a stock is, what matters is the shares outstanding and market cap. Can’t be comparing UCAP to UBA when UCAP is less than 1/4 of the size of UBA. That said, I am going to need UBA to fly soon! I had so much faith in this bank when I started investing about 2 years ago. |

GANDALF1: Thats a good strategy you have there. and you are correct about me not buying anything at the moment. Instead I exited my UBA position today and I am now 100% in cash.
NSE has exceeded its known resistance and is beginning to show weakness in volumes. Dont forget that it is local liquidity that is driving the markets now. So I need people like you to buy and hold.
Once the fuel dries, the prices will drop back and I will buy low while you will be trapped and might stay trapped because it might take you one year to bail. no be only trapped, na trapped in the closet. Bros continue with your technical analysis, while I continue my investing. In 12-15 years we will see how far. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Ades1: 6:24pm On Jan 31, 2022 |
GANDALF1: This is not a buyers market. I will advise you hold your cash for a while as the market will soon tank as usual.
With the global economic apprehension surrounding rate hike (to which Nigeria is not immune) and noting that this is a year to general elections, if you hold positions, this is the time to sell and wait.
Once the euphoria surrounding year end results ends, the index will platoon and range till first quarter results filter in at the end of April after which some of the prices you see today will be gone till January 2023 at its earliest or after elections in Feb/Mar2023. With this kind of mindset you may never buy anything oh. Some of the big banks GT and Zenith are still at reasonable prices. I still bought a tranche of Stanbic last week. My own na to buy and wait, that's all I can control. I have no control over rate hikes or who wins elections |

It is usually between 45% and 50%.
Banks like FCMB and Fidelity have a dividend payout ratio of less than 30% Thanks for the honorable mentions of FCMB and Fidelity. Time to check them out and possibly add them to the portfolio. |

BabsO2: Based on their Q3 results their EPS will likely drop from about N7 to about N5 in 2021 full year. Even if it drops to N4 will CBN stop them from paying total dividend of N3. As the drop is most most likely temporary. Right, imo, I don’t think CBN will do that. En earning of N4-N5 should allow them pay out N3. They may not allow them increase the payment though. I personally think GT will continue to match Zenith in payments for now. This is just an opinion of mine, there is no DD to back this up |
