Autos / About Groupage Goods In Nigerian Port by adisarasaq(m): 1:09am On Apr 15, 2013
Groupage is a system use to help
importers with small packages,
groupage is when two or more
people having consignments in a
container and everyone with his
own B/L.
This is how it works. A Logistics
company will arrange shipment
for different importers...they
don't need to know each other,
then issue B/L for each one of
them to enable them find their
goods when arrive Nigeria.
This Logistics company will be
the one to pay for Freight and
other Local charges both at Port
of loading and Port of discharge.
When the vessel arrived, they
take the container to their
Warehouse where everything will
be unstuffed. After that you can
now go to their Warehouse, pay
their charges and take delivery of
your goods.
Note: You are responsible for any
import duty that are to be paid
on your goods but if you want
the Logistic company to pay for
you then it's another contract.
Business / Re: Importation Made Easier. Ask Questions Here by adisarasaq(m): 10:46am On Apr 13, 2013
Let's stop decieving ourself, every dutable goods must be paid for nomatter how small. The fact that courier company did not ask you to pay duty does not mean it has not been paid for. Although the charges is to much which every good government must look in to, Dubai is what it is today because government encourage investors with free duty, our government should do the same. But now we must pay duty for all our imported goods nomatter how small. It's the law of the land.

Autos / Re: How To Avoid Delay In Nigerian Port by adisarasaq(m): 11:32pm On Apr 11, 2013
The reason why there's always stealing in the Port is because most of the Labour working in the Port are not motivated. Can you believe that 80% of them are working as a casual that if any calamity befall them on the duty there's not going to be any help. Can you believe the highest paid they get is 10,000. This is why they look for alternative, but in Grimaldi there's a little different they pay their Labour more than any other company and all their Labours are staff.
Autos / Re: How To Avoid Delay In Nigerian Port by adisarasaq(m): 11:08pm On Apr 11, 2013
I will not say it's a lie because there are Port Rat every where but Grimaldi still the best among the rest.
Autos / How To Avoid Delay In Nigerian Port by adisarasaq(m): 8:48pm On Apr 11, 2013
Delay is a major issue in the Port
recently, Importers have lost
substantial amount of money,
i`ve lost a good customer also
due to delay so we want to look
at the cause of the delay and also
how to avoid them
1, FALSE DECLARATION: False
declaration is when you don`t tell
the truth about what you are
having inside your container or
your vehicles, false declaration is
when your vehicle is 2010 but
you as an Importer or your Agent
perfect the document to read
2005, false declaration is when
your goods are 20%duty but you
decided to change it to 5%duty.
You may escape during the
documentation but you can`t
escape when it`s time for
physical examination. If after
physical examination your goods
has discrepancies, then you are
not only going to delay your
goods but it`s an offense and it
may get you in to jail and also
going to cost you more money.
2, WRONG DECLARATION: Wrong
declaration is another problem
that causes delay in the Port, this
happened to me some months
back. I had four items in a
container, 3 Printing Machine
while the last one was Ink for
printing which was wrongly
declared. The document reads:
460 litres of Ink for Printing,
while in the container we found
23 cartons of Ink for Printing.
Each carton contain 4 gallons of
5,litres.
So 5,litres by 4 gallons by 23
cartons the total still remain
460,litres, my document
supposed to declare 23 cartons
instead of declared it as one unit.
Though it was not a false
declaration but wrong one, i was
referred to the CPC for proper
checking. End of the day i did not
pay any additional duty but
wasted a lot of time and also pay
more rent.
3, WRONG IMPORTER`S NAME ON
THE BILL OF LADING: This one is
big issue but only few people
knows about it. We should try to
avoid names with title like Pastor,
Imam, Barrister, Inspector,
General, Commander, Reverend
and many more like this. The
reason is, Shipping company will
request for your
Identity card either International
passport or Drivers license
before releasing your goods to
your Clearing Agent in order to
be sure that they (Clearing Agent)
are truly representing you. And
you know that your Identity will
not carry any of these title but
your real name. This will create
misunderstanding between
Shipping company and the
Clearing Agent. Some times you
may need to be present before
your goods will be release to
your Agent. Imagine you are in
the US and your Agent need your
attention in Nigeria...what will
you do? So let the real name on
your Identity reflect on your B/L.
4, MONEY ISSUE: I am sorry to say
this...because if you don`t have
money you wouldn`t make any
shipment but believe me many
people make shipment without
having money to clear it. but
what they don`t realize is that
they are enriching Shipping
company more and more at their
own expense because no
company will allow you to go
without paying all the
accumulated rent.
5, UNTRUTHFUL CLEARING AGENT:
This one is a bomb, i am an
Agent my self and i`m not trying
to play a saint here but the truth
is that some Clearing Agent are
not trustworthy. It happen on a
daily basis where Agent will
collect money from Importer and
spend it even before the Vessel
arrived and when the Vessel
arrived it`ll be one story after
another. But i think those that fall
victim of this act are those
Importers that are always
looking for cheap price like one
of my brother who wanted me to
clear 2006 car for 180,000.
Agents who charges very cheap
may be having money problem
with previous goods giving to
them by another Importer so
they need money so bad to
extent that they will accept any
amount you offer them just to
solve their problem.
Please beware of untruthful
Agent if your Agent charge
higher and deliver quick stick
with him.
6, CHOOSE COMPETENT CARRIER
(SHIPPING COMPANY): I think this
should be number one, on the
list choosing good and
competent carrier should be
number one priority. Many
shipping company have good
service at the Port of loading but
when getting to Port of
discharge here in Nigeria they
wouldn`t care if you are unable
to take delivery of your goods for
more than a month after
discharge as long as you must
pay for the rent. Ask your Agent
which Shipping company is
better and if you don`t
have an Agent yet ask people. For
me i will say GRIMALDI is the best
for now.
This should be a little helpful.

Autos / Is There No Import Duty To Be Paid In Cotonuo? by adisarasaq(m): 12:08pm On Apr 11, 2013
I wonder why people are so adamant about buying vehicle in Cotonuo...what is so special in Cotonuo?

Last year, we paid for more than 5 vehicles in Nigeria here after coming through Cotonuo, the same amount of duty we usualy pay on vehicles coming through Nigerian Port.

Is there no Import duty to be paid in Cotonuo Port? Even if there's no import duty to be paid in Cotonuo, can you drive your vehicle peacefuly in Nigeria without paying import duty?...then why are we still going to Cotonuo?.

Autos / Lagos Port Landing Fee by adisarasaq(m): 7:54pm On Apr 09, 2013
Port Landing Fee! Are you paying?

Nigerians, we are fond of blaming Government for every problem but fail to discharge our own responsibility...don't get me wrong, we are all victims of bad governance. But that does not mean there's no hope, that does not mean we should not do what is required of us.
Some years back, Lagos State Government commence collection of Port Landing Fee, which is another way of generating revenue for the state to run efficiently.
But we refuse to pay, we refuse to take up responsibility. Like i said before, we are all victim but let's do our part so that we'll be able to hold our government responsible for everything.
Autos / Tax Identification Number Paralysis Business In The Port by adisarasaq(m): 7:36pm On Apr 09, 2013
All Clearing License and Importers name has been blocked by Nigerian Customs Services from their data.

It's no longer a news that everybody transacting business in Nigerian Port must use Tax Identification Number TIN.

Before, we use RC number for corporate and we use Driver License and International Passport number for individual.

Now all these are no longer working, you must have a TIN and use your TIN to run things in Nigerian Port.

As of now, all Clearing License and Importer's name has been suspended by Nigerian Customs Services.

Ricky_Ross: God bless you all for speaking the truth. There has been several threads here that says something about improvement in poiwer supply but as usual, the anti GEJ thugs keeps flooding this site with lies. It seems they are working very hard to discredit GEJ, but what are they gonna gain?

Truth is, power supply has improved in most parts of Nigeria. There is steady light in my village in IMO STATE, i was in Enugu state for 2 weeks and the light is steady there. I live in Port Harcourt and everyone in PHC now can confirm there is steady electricity, infact, there are many parts of PHC that never experienced light problem for 1 minute for the last few weeks. Rivers govt is building standard power plant, and by the time he commissions it in December, all parts of rivers state will have 24/7 power supply.

Remember we voted these leaders to do these things for us, by right we are not supposed to be singing praises, but hey, our previous presidents stole tens of billions of dollars without anything to show for it so hell yeah, am gonna sing praises for Jonathan if he can provide steady power supply by 2014.

Let the truth be told, GEJ is doing wonderfully well in the area of electricity supply. There is massive improvement in the ports as well. When OBJ was president i once paid 1.2 million naira demurrage, back then if the ships arrive Nigeria it takes several weeks to clear your goods, but this time once the ship arrives today I get my goods the next day. GEJ should sort out other sectors of the economy like security and agriculture and he will be the best president of Nigeria so far.

Lets talk about electricity and leave port matter. I work in the port even right now typing from the port, what you said abt the port is not true. We face alot of challenges here, but the improvement our ports experiences started from Obj regime.

S.O.N have representative in all the main country that we (Nigerian) import from, before you import any product you must go to their rep with intended product for certification. If your product is of the required standard you pay some fee and certificate will be given. When your product get to the port you have to present your certificate for clearance. Done
