opal4real:

Every silly statement deserves a response. Calling a thing by it's name is not insult. Your comment was not only absurd but childish.

It is insulting when you say another person has 'little or no I.Q., and needs cheese balls and bobo juice to reason better.'

Imagine such was said to you, or your dad...or even any grown friend of yours...in your presence; how will it sound? Like an insult or not?

I wouldn't dwell on that anyway.

opal4real:

King in Edo is not Ogiso, Oba has a deep meaning in Edo and has been in Edo lexicon from time but same cannot be said of the Yoruba's.

1. You did not say when the word 'Oba' enter into the Edo lexicon.
2. What is the 'deep meaning' of Oba in Edo?

The word/title Oba only started to exist when Oba Eweka created it.

"The title of Oba was created by Oba Eweka I, Benin Empire's first 'Oba', who is said to have ascended to power at some time between 1180 and 1300."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oba_of_Benin

Oba as used in the Yoruba Language was adopted from the Edo people.

opal4real:

What is your proof or explanation that Ogiso means King in Edo? A direct answer will make me tender an apology, but if you cannot then my previous statement about you remains valid.

"The Benin word for King is Ogie or Ogiso changed to Oba"

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oba_(ruler)

Though, it (Ogiso) literally means 'King(s) of the sky' but realistically; it means King ordained by God or God ordained king.

My friend... don't write what you don't know.

ogiso doesn't mean king in Benin.
Ogiso in Benin means kings of the sky.

and mind you Oba means king in Benin

Oba is a 'title' for kings in Benin just like Alake, Ooni, Alaafin are titles for kings in Yoruba; it really doesn't mean King. The title was created by Eweka, who happens to be one of the descendants of Yoruba King Oduduwa; who himself was a rejected bini prince.

The Edo-Yoruba is quite interwoven anyway.

how can the Benin man be telling a lie when the First king to be call Obasanjo in Benin lived like 500 years or more ago and the Yorubas recently start using the word. It may also interest you to know that the very first Ogiso is Oba-godo. O ba means to shine. Omo N'oba N' edo is the full title which can be translated as ' the child that shines for Edo'. Cc

King in Edo/bini is Ogiso.

When exactly did the Yourbas start using the word 'Oba' for King...and when did 'oba' ever translate to mean King in bini language?
Date please!

no vex, what's ur proof?
cecegorz:

Any proof to counter that? Perhaps a clip of the attendance register?

Oba is the word for King in the Yoruba language of contemporary West Africa Nigeria. Kings in Yorubaland are known as Obas, for example Oba Sijuade of Ile ife, Oba Aromoralan of Ijeshaland, Oba Adeyemi of Oyo, Oba Eriediewa of Benin. The Benin people adopted the word from the Yoruba. The Benin word for King is Ogie or Ogiso changed to Oba when Eweka l son of yoruba prince Oranmiyan came to the throne in Benin.

Hope you can see that the Bini man is lying when he says the word 'Oba' is indigenous to the Bini kingdom

“That word Oba is indigenous to Benin. It is only in recent times you find everybody bearing Oba. When the Western Regional conference of traditional rulers took place in Benin City in 1942, go and check the attendance, there was no other monarch in the whole of the Western Region then that bore the title of Oba, except the Oba of Benin.

The part in bold is simply a lie.
Culture / Re: Benin Kingdom In Edo Is Yoruba Territory — Ooni Of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi by adsonstone: 2:46pm On Feb 11, 2016
There's no controversy about the fact that was stated by the Ooni.

Oba is a Yoruba word meaning King.
Kings in Bini were known as Ogiso or Ogie.

Obas of Benin are subject to the Ooni...because they're his children (from time past).

He said Adeboye prophesied that Boko Haram and ISIS will be considerably weakened, this can be verified easily by studying the modu operandi of these guys, which an independent verifier will agree. Does Boko Haram and ISIS still hold as much territories like before?. No.

He ranted about Adeboye's fuel less driving, this shouldn't elicit any controversy because all through history, God has shown Himself in diverse ways and means by doing anything at anytime for whosoever He wished.

I guess he should be asking Adeboye how a boy from the backwaters of Ifewara could become one of the most influential persons in the Universe

On the fund raising debacle, I still wonder, how he had expected Adeboye to have raised the funds, when he gave opportunity to everyone to come in at his or her level. Adeboye called from 1 billion to 100 Naira but because this fellow cocooned in his 2 by 2 studio flat in middle of a nowhere borough in the UK could not imagine that there are people in Nigeria that can give millions of Naira to God's work without battling an eyelid

Please I dont want this to lead to an E-war
Mature contribution only if you know you are a tribal fanatic don't bother to make contribution please.
Why is it that most Igbo towns are mostly made up of indigenous Igbos
People will rather go to Calabar, Port Harcourt or Uyo than to stop at Onitsha which is closer.
Is it that Igbos are not friendly, people from other regions despise them so much such that they dont want to look for business opportuinity in their region or there are not enough opportunities outside buying and selling in these igbo towns and cities.
Even the north that most of us love to hate and we label intolerant set of people have more concentration of non native in there villages than igbo cities and their town and cities are mostly made up of up to 30-45% non indigenes or non northerners.

Well said, Op.

In my opinion, the level of hostility in the south east is quite high and opportunities are not as many as they are in other regions. I believe these two factors rank top. I've had a couple of friends (corpers) who found it difficult to secure an apartment because they weren't Natives...and when they finally got, they had to pay more compared to my other corpers who were natives.

An average 'rational' Nigerian will seek 'greener pastures' and that's why the South Easterners and Northerners are quite many in the SouthWest and SouthSouth.

OP you have said your mind and you asked valid questions
well, the thing is, nigeria has branded igbo as evil since after the war
federal govts has refused to give SE what other regions have thus se is poor and its mostly only business of buying and selling that thrive there
SE LACKS
SEA PORT
GOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
GOOD FEDERAL ROADS AND PROJECTS
etc
so tell me, who would love to live there if not the natives who can manage?
you know, what we have are either provided by state govt or individual efforts and you already know that its not good enough.
we are friendly, honest and hardworking people
but we hate to be intimidated simple
i hope i answered SOME of your questions?
proudly from the erosion ravaged anambra state

In as much as I agree with some points up there eg; that the South Easterners engage mostly in merchandise, I disagree with most of the points stated as only an uninformed individual will make those points.

1. SeaPorts.
As the name implies, Seaports can only be built where there are Seas/Oceans easily accessible by Ships and other means of transportation on/in water. Anyone who has a little knowledge of geography or maps will know that ALL states in the SE are landlocked thus, it is not possible to build seaports in the SE. That's the reason for the absence of seaports and not hatred for the SE. Infact, only the South West and the South South have Seaports of all the regions in Nigeria.

2. "Good" International Airports
The Akanu Ibiam International Airport is in Enugu State in the South East. The last time I checked, no region in Nigeria has more than ONE international Airport, the North East has none. The same Airport in the SE; despite being relatively new, it has undergone renovations to upgrade its facilities. Murtala Mohammed International has been there for years, crying for help yet nothing is being done to it, there has been numerous complaints about it...even here on NL (eg www.nairaland.com/2859691/bad-state-port-harcourt-international-airport), yet, I don't see South Westerners complain of hatred or Neglect...or even the North easterners that have none, we don't hear them.

3. Good Federal Roads and Projects
In as much as many of the SE roads are bad just like in many other regions, the SE still boasts of some of the best federal roads in Nigeria like the Obiozora-Iziagu road ...and for other projects; yes, the FG has hospitals and Schools; infact, some of the best Nigerian Universities like; University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Michael Okpara Uni. of Agric., Umudike, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka....just to mention a few.

You have no evidence to show that Nigeria has tagged Igbos as evil since the civil war besides, if the South Easterners are really friendly as you claim, they will not seek secession.

My simple advise to you and every other south easterner is that you should focus on positives and seek the unity and progress of Nigeria, rather than secession.

May God Bless and Uphold Nigeria.

The bible recorded that mary was the mother of jesus. No doubt, we all honour her because of the roles she played in bringing forth the saviour. Meanwhile, she was only favoured amongst other virgins in her time. She wasnt the only virgin as at that time; neither was she more righteous than the others. Permit me to say she was just lucky.

She wasn't 'lucky' because God did not choose at random.
As the bible rightly puts it, Mary is highly favoured; blessed among all women.

She in particular was chosen to bear our Lord Jesus Christ who is the saviour of ALL men which includes Mary (Luke 1:46-47), those that were dead...and even those that are yet to be born.

Weeee:
I was at a Church today and I almost wept for the black race. Is it that people don't read their Bibles or they just choose to be gullible and stupid?

The Pastor or Prophet as he claimed he was always said that he isn't a beggar and he doesn't need anybody's money, but his actions were quite different. He acted like a beggar to me.

He was even so bold to request for so much money from his members and they saw nothing wrong at all. Okay, let me list all the money he collected so you can see for yourselves.

1) Who wants to give God the biggest note he/ she has in his/ her pocket?

2) Brown envelope.

3) White envelope.

4) Offering

5) Who wants to give money to the visiting Prophet? Tell the prophet thank you, Sow a seed now.

6) If you have 5000, 10,000 or any big amount of money you want to give to God.

Women came out mostly and I must say the church made almost N200, 000 or even more in just a day and this happens every Tuesday and other days they fellowship.

Things I noticed about the church...

1) The Pastor is an owner of a big car, while the members were mostly poor women and few men.

2) The Pastors dressed far better than the members. In fact, the members looked like people with lots of financial problems.

3) The only things the members get from these Pastors are prayers and a promise that God will reward them in 2016. I remember that I went to this same church some years back and the members still looked the same with no much of a change.

When will Nigerians get back to their senses to realize that these Pastors are using their beliefs, emotions and gullibility to steal all the money they have?

Only when we begin to think and come to a reasonable conclusion that God doesn't need money, but humans do, that is when we will begin to think right.

I wish I could take a video of what went on.

Nothing up there suggests that anyone is being forced to give.

"Who wants to give...?"
"If you have...and want to?"

It is not compulsory to give, I've never seen a 'Church' that forces its members to give; members ought to give wilfully. 2Cor 9:7

Giving is a gateway for more blessings, it is good to give willingly; the bible affirms it. 2Cor 9:6

As for the poor Church members, they are responsible for themselves, one is not poor without his own consent...and yes, poor people should give. Mark 12:42-44

Do you have a problem with people giving wilfully?

Meanwhile, adsonstone who pretended that he only came on this thread to correct error usually goes blind when non-Catholics tell lies like this.

According to the protestant man of God, when God speaks to an individual, his word to the individual is not credible enough, God has to confirm it with Scripture.

Just like when God told Kumuyi to open Deeper Life, he wrote in in the Scriptures that Kumuyi will open Deeper Life.

...then they will accuse me of hypocrisy!

I, personally, do not believe it is an error, I have no proof it is an error, God has spoken to me and referred to the scripture, Jesus confirmed his word with scripture, the Apostles did so, so, why should I fight him or try to debunk him? Tell me.

Besides, I don't read all his posts, I only read his posts you quote or I'm mentioned in.

Lawless set of people?

Potential terrorist group alert!

The Government should not take this as another "joking stuv," else, it gets out of hands and become another problem.

Lol. The guy has been running from pillar to post...looking for ways to force various verses to say what they didn't say...

Haba, where did the young man claim the bold?
He only said God confirms his word with Scripture...you have added your usual wild assumptions.

I'm not surprised anyway, it's your usual dubious nature.

If you believe his claim is an error, debunk it with reasonable proofs and stop being dubious by adding your own assumptions to his statement(s).
