PoliticsRe: Is Lagos Really Worth The Hype? by Afam4eva(m): 4:30pm On Feb 24, 2020
What HYPE are you referring to? You need to be specific.

Lagos remains the economic hub of Nigeria, with most jobs residing in the former capital of Nigeria. This is exactly the reason why people move from all over the country to live in Lagos.

Every other thing can be gotten elsewhere.

Whenever i travel to ENUGU or Calabar, i always actually consider living in those places because they're cool, clean and well thought out. As well as less stressful. But i can't just yet because everything i do nowadays revolves around Lagos.

For people to remain in a city like Lagos with all it's problems is a pointer that it may not be OVERATED.

Poor Ebi, it's painful that she likes Obi but the guy isn't into her at all. I don't see any other guy in the house getting involved with her.

I'm yet to see the new love guest and introducing them would add the spice we need.
I'm liking Cherry and Michael, I hope it works
I think Nkechi is easily the prettiest in the house. So, i think she can actually do better. I actually thought she would be a hot cake. Some people are even implying that her village people are doing a good job.

It's a Nigerian thing and not really an Air peace thing. But it's good you called them out on their BS. Despite their own problems, i kinda prefer Airpeace than any other airline at the moment. Whenever i'm in any airline other than Airpeace, i feel like the plane is gonna crash. Especially that Dana.

While I don't support forceful takeover of people's ancentral land, we should bear in mind that no development can take place without sacrifices. All the developed part of Enugu include the cherished independent layout are all people's land, imagine if they had all resisted government and private developers from developing them.

Tomorrow, we start blaming FG for abandoning South east meanwhile, we were the people chasing investors away.
Like i aid, they should follow due process. Compensate people they need to compensate. Don't just take people's land by force and when they fight back, it's interpreted as them not wanting development. It's nothing but blackmail.

This is reason why investors rarely invest in South East. Now, after many years of putting in money to deliver a world class city, the government wakes up one day and destroys a 500 million dollars investment.
Whilewe supporting the building of a world class mega city, it should be done with due diligence. We should not just take people's lands just because what we're going to do is is deemed commendable.

AngryIgboMan:
Does Okada ride in Tokyo, Japan, Beijing, Berlin or New York?
While you made a good case for the ban of Okada and Keke and i actually agree with you to a large extent but this your statement here should never be used again. These cities you mentioned are first world cities and should not be compared to Lagos. Cities that you can put side by side with Lagos are the likes of Mumbai, Delhi, Jakarta, Karachi, Manila and the likes and this cities are light years of Lagos yet most of them still use Keke. Of course, we want our cities to look like New York and Tokyo but we do not have the human capital and resources to become these cities overnight. It takes some time and we need to be sensitive.

I think the government should have bought thousands of BRT buses that will not only ply highways and major roads but inner streets. That's how it's done in countries like Mauritius. These buses will even pass the front of your house. But the buses are not even enough and you're making matters worse by banning the only source of transportation of so many people.

ChinenyeN:
That is beyond the scope of what is being discussed. Identities morph and change all the time. Ngwa is a name applied to a group of settlements less than a millennia ago. In another millennia or two, Ngwa could very well not even exist. That is life. There was no "Igbo identity" a hundred years ago, and now there is a strong "Igbo identity" in 2020. That is life. So I'm not concerned with that. Rather, what I am concerned with is agency and an end to the constant and wasteful arguments about "Igbo Unity" and who is and isn't Igbo.
If it applies to NGWA then why can't I apply to IGBO. With the current realities we know who the IGBO people are whether created by the white man or not. Whatever happens in a hundred years happens.

Imagine if Aba woke up tomorrow and said they're not Ngwa. Will you let them go or try to to make them see reason. As much as the whole who-is -igbo and who is not is tiring to me, I understand why people who do it do it. But just like you, I want us to stop fighting it and let it go.
PoliticsRe: . by Afam4eva(m): 6:10pm On Feb 01, 2020
ChinenyeN:
Can you acknowledge that stating "we are the same or similar owing to language and culture" is independent of the simple statement that we did not share an identity until Europeans gave us one? If you can, then it means you can identify what I am discussing vs what I am not. I will be the first to tell anyone that the Igbo ethnolinguistic group is a legitimate anthropological grouping (ie. "we are the same or similar owing to our language, culture and traditions). However, I will not be so propagandist as to state that because of such grouping, we have always seen ourselves as a people. THAT is the greatest of all lies that Igbo nationalists have convinced themselves to tell for decades now.
I mostly agree with your assertion. But I hope you know that as you came Igbo was an artificial creation which I agree with, so is your NGWA, NKANU and most of the Igbo sub-groups that we know today. It's a slippery slope.
PoliticsRe: . by Afam4eva(m): 5:29pm On Feb 01, 2020
ChinenyeN:
You realize that those are two different statements? You people are trying to conflate an anthropological categorization and treat it as if it were a pre-existing ethnic identity. That is the contention here. Shared culture doesn't matter. The point being contended is the shared ethnic identity, and there was none until Europeans provided us with a convenient label and that label was turned into an ethnic identity post war. There is a mountain of evidence to this fact.
I don't disagree with you that there probably was no unison in ethnic Identity unlike in the Oyo empire and the caliphate. But that does not mean that we are not the same or similar people owing to our language, culture and tradition.
PoliticsRe: . by Afam4eva(m): 4:58pm On Feb 01, 2020
ChinenyeN:
Yes. I am saying exactly that. This isn’t news. This idea of an all-encompassing, shared ethnic identity is the effect of war. Europeans gave you all your label and you all transformed it into a monolithic ethnic identity when war came and then grew an active Igbo consciousness post-war. Stating anything else would be lying, and we all know it. You want to assume that your ancestors cared about “interlinked”, despite the fact that there is a mountain of evidence that shows that we never shared a consciousness with each other until Europeans gave us a label. Many communities never even knew the word “Igbo” and first heard it from Europeans. We never shared an identity until Europeans created one for us and we cemented it post-war. This is another one of those hard pills of honesty that people like you have to learn to swallow.
The Igbo label and consciousness may be a European invention and held sway after the war but does not mean that the people we call Igbo today did not have similarity in language and culture. If so, how come Ijaws were not included into the Igbo nation. They knew we shared a lot in common hence their decision to lump us together. Though i agree that some culture that we practice in recent times are borrowed cuture from other Igbo sub-groups.

PoliticsRe: Port Harcourt Is Originally Borokiri Not Igwuocha As IPOB Claims by Afam4eva(m): 12:50pm On Jan 31, 2020
I think Port-hacourt was neither ever described as Iguocha nor Borokiri. Port-hacourt as a city started existing from the colonial era and included places beyond tribal limits. It's like saying Lagos used to be known as Eko when Eko was just used to describe what is today known as Lagos. Just like Lagos, Port-hacourt has become a multi-ethnic or tribal city/town and not a tribal enclave like say Abeokuta, Enugu or Otukpo.

Just to buttress my point. When you say Port-hacourt used to be described as Borokiri, are you saying the Ikwerre parts of port-hacoourt was also called Borokiri. Having in mind that Borokiri still exists till this day.
