Now let me put out what a lot of people have been shy to say. Based on the current reality, Igboland as it is today will NEVER be great. It's not a curse but an appraisal of the current reality.
In Nigeria, we talk more about brain drain and when we do, we're mostly talking about how our brightest minds leave Nigeria for greener pastures in more advanced country. Now, if we were to discuss brain drain in Igboland, ours is even worse because our people are leaving the east for not only abroad but other Nigerian cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Port-hacourt, Calabar, Ibadan etc. It's actually so bad that an Igbo person who thinks of returning from the US, UK of canada back to Nigeria is mot likely going to settle Lagos and Abuja. They only think of Enugu, Owerri or Awka as places where they go to see relatives and have a feel of village life. Never do they think of it as a place they could live. If those in other parts of Nigerians cannot live in Igboland, how much more someone from New York, Los Angeles or London.
The only way we can begin to change the narrative is by making concerted efforts and we cannot do that if we don't have the right leaders at the helm of affairs. I'm sorry to say but Ugwuanyi, Umahi, Ikpeazu or Rochas or Obiano cannot make this happen. Even if they could, they would do it only if it's demanded from them and the only people who can demand it from them are those Igbos outside Igboland. I'm sorry to say, but the Igbos in Igboland don't have the capacity to do that alone.
A revolution needs to happen for anything tangible to happen. We can keep deceiving ourselves that Rochas or anyone is changing the fact of wherever when you can take a look at places like Akwa Ibom, Calabar and even Osun and know that we're all deceiving ourselves. |

Purehuman: Not only the people who live outside the country but outside the region. There is a way China does it and if we can at least few notes from them, the development it will bring will be super high. You have not finished taxing people in the south east who are benefiting from social amenities (no matter how small). |

Purehuman: We are not using our diaspora well. The igbos have very huge number of people living outside the region. If we can generate a means of taxing the diasporas, then we will get more revenue in the region. A people with over 65% if it's people living outside the region will tell on its revenue. You want to tax people who live outside the country? |

Stingman: Before this new government, this thread was moving very fast with pictures of infrastructural development in the state, especially Enugu. But today there is hardly any major investment in the capital city. Enugu state is now last of all the states in SE in terms of development. We see images from Imo, Anambra, Ebony and even Abia states. Can people who are resident in the state, kindly post pictures of any development in the City. Thanks There's nothing happening in Enugu that isn't natural. If you're looking for those massive and deliberate developments then i think, you can get such from Imo, Ebonyi and Anambra not Enugu. We mistake the fact that Enugu has been developed to some certain level and is beautiful to think that it has somehow experienced some sort of urban renaissance. |

Ofodirinwa: We have fallen into the ignorant trap of believing IGR = Development. IGR is how much people are taxed. A lot of development comes from reducing and eliminating tax. I hope this ignorance ends within this generation because it's senseless.
There are states that double and triple tax people property and goods, but someone will see this on a spreadsheet and clap because it's "IGR". IGR is logically borne from development. The more developed a place is, the more investors and in turn, the more revenue that accrues from it. A state that has 20 5 star hotels and one that has just 5, which do you think is more developed assuming that is the only basis for comparison and also assuming all other things remain equal. |

He is obviously not familiar with these things that much but from the comparison he gave (Java or oracle or Cisco), you would realize that what he actually intended to say was Java programming vs Oracle Database vs Cisco networking. |

wane01: Oga java is same with Oracle Oga Java is not the same as Oracle. Even though oracle, as a company own java, when we talk of java in programming terms, we're talking of the programming language. Oracle on the other hand is majorly a Database Management system. |

They had a choice to support other more qualified candidates but they chose an old, tired and someone who would rather present a NEPA bill than a school cert. Una weldone. |

iamrealdeji: yeah, the business men among entertainers and celebs are those I considered as the richest in the world and yet, they are nothing compared to many business men due to the factors I mentioned above. its certain,it will surely affect them one way or the other. Do you know how much Diddy has wasted in his life in the name of living lavish like a celebrity should? if he was strictly a business man with the same success with the one he has as a rapper,he would be way richer because he's like the Bill Gates of Rap What product does Diddy sell that will make him a billionaire (not saying it's not possible)? He's a rapper and a record label owner. Both combines cannot make him a billionaire. Even Jayz and Beyonce combine are not billionaires. It's not every kid of business that can make one super rich. Haven't you noticed that most of new billionaires are IT billionaires. |
Business › Re: Meet John Collison, Harvard Dropout And World's Youngest Self-Made Billionaire by Afam4eva(m): 7:35pm On Jan 10, 2018 |
iamrealdeji: yeah, and upon the fact that they have the biggest opportunities as biggest earners, the richest of that category isn't worth more than 2billion dollars(Michael Jordan is the richest sportsman in the world and not worth up to 2b dollars, world Richest actor isn't a billionaire, world Richest rapper isn't a billionaire, world richest singer isn't a billionaire either) compared to people that started with close to nothing but are worth almost 100billion dollars today. there are many business men that started with a little but can buy all the richest entertainers and sportsmen put together today. its like that all over the world. In Nigeria you see many musicians and sportsmen that used to be big earners and spenders but today surpassed by business men that started with 500k or less around the same time or after. its not like these entertainers and celebs don't have business sense too but its impossible for them to keep business rules like prudence, monitoring, dedication, etc which draws them back. no famous celeb or sportsman wants to be seen not riding and maintaining nice cars, flying first class or private, wearing blings, etc but one must avoid all that to succeed in business. I'm sure Amokachi was richer than Otedola in the 90's but to keep up that celebrity lifestyle isn't easy and today he isn't in the same level with Otedola even though its sure he might have invested more money into businesses than Otedola but its not about how much you invest in business but how business minded and prudent you are. Who is Otedola impressing to be spending lavishly when he started his business, even up till now,he might choose to use a simple car or phone and people would praise him for it but if a celeb or sportsman tries it,people would label him as broke especially of its persistent, remember Azadus paying okada man. So,full time business men will always be far richer than entertainers and sportsmen. Fame itself is very costly to maintain, you have to spend to nurture it and that would decrease your money doubling strength. But the reason is not necessarily because they are entertainers or sportsmen but because they are employees. Hardly do employees become billionaires. Even Sillicon Valley that has a lot of billionaires has no billionaire that made their money from being employees. Now the business men in entertainment and sports are owners of record labels, film studios, sports team and there you have billionaires. So, in essence, the surest way to be a billionaire and remain like that for a very long time is by becoming an employer of labour. |

Business › Re: Meet John Collison, Harvard Dropout And World's Youngest Self-Made Billionaire by Afam4eva(m): 6:53pm On Jan 10, 2018 |
iamrealdeji: Remove 50 cent from the list sis. dude is said to be broke. most entertainers end up to be nothing later on because they live for their status, they maintain their celebrity status and very few are business minded. its very difficult to be in sport or entertainment line and be business minded, they mostly invest their money and the business crumbles because they are not business minded and they're addicted to spending lavish, they rake in enough cash as earnings more than anybody in the world but on the long run, they squander it but some business men earned peanuts and use it to set up business and after years, they become way richer than the sportsmen or entertainer they started at the same time with. mindset and profession differs . business men multiply money since they have no earnings they rely on,sportsmen and entertainers have lavish money since they have earnings they rely on and that's why they're not the richest people in the world but they are the biggest earners in the world I think the point that you're trying to make is that people whose incomes are not symmetrical with their input tend to lavish their money more than people who actually sweat for every dime. That's why Musicians, Sports men and Actors are more likely to go broke later in life. That's not to say that there aren't some people from this group that are business savvy. |
